TPDebrick-v004 Error SSH Cinnection Refused - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All!
I hope someone here can help me, cause this is driving me nuts! Basically I have got a HP Touchpad, and it was stuck in a reboot loop. So, I have tried to run TPDebrick through it to try and just reset everything.
So - got most of the script running, until it hits the part after the "ping check". It says "SSH Host:192.168.7.7 port 22: connection refused."
I can ping the ip all ok, but get the same error as the script when I try running both "ssh" and "telnet" commands to the IP address...
Can anyone shed any light on this please??

Did You get it fixed.

Yes, I was successful in bringing it back from the grave. UNFORTUNATELY in violation of the spirit of these forum, I did not take notes, and really and truly forgot what I did to affect the debrick.
With that said, I seem to recall that there was an issue with my intranet. I use the 172.16.0.0/24 address on my local network. It seems to me I had to change back to a 198.162.1.0/24 set of address for the local network. Or something like that.
I had spent a couple of nights sitting on the couch in front of the TV trying different stuff. Not with any real plan of action, just an unorganized persistence. When I did get it to unbrick, I was so excited, that I forgot what steps I had just taken.
I apologize for my incompetence.
I will be playing with it this week to install Evervolv and if I remember anything I will document and report it.
Would there be any logs recorded during the de-brick process that I can access now that the de-brick is complete?
Please accept my apology.

AT&T Tilt Data connection configuration problems

Hello,
I have searched all over for an answer to my problem, and have not found anything of real relevance. I am using the AT&T Tilt with AT&T service.
I have just downloaded and installed the firmware at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556293 . I was hoping the software upon install would configure the data connection by itself upon initial startup. But alas, this did not happen. Is there any application that I can get that can configure my data connection for me?
You must not have searched in the proper area of all over.
Found this on the first try ..

First off, thank you. The setup wizard cab worked perfectly. But are you really sure that you need to be this degrading to an xda-developers n00b? Im pretty sure you knew you knew exactly what you were looking for, whereas I did not.
Again, thanks for the help!
dude I just typed in att data settings, nothing impossibly hard to figure out. Next time I'll just say something like " search harder nub"..
How did you not know what you were looking for? You spelled it right out !

Degrading would be me having you dress up like a woman that has been crying and have you beg me for the answer.
true, i did spell it out myself, (sort of). next time, i should look harder, and i am sorry i took time out of your day. What I do not intend to do, however, is take up even more of your time rambling on for two hours in this post and start an argument, by so doing destroying any dignity that either of us might have.
Just as a side note, I would not beg you for the answer. this is the Internet. I would simply search somewhere else online. Given that I have the choice of being degraded or searching somewhere else online, I dont think it is possible for you to degrade me.
Seriously, though, thanks for your help. I really do appreciate it.

Is the 1-Click Rooting still available for Dream/G1?

i've been all over this site as well as others trying to find a fairly simple way to root my T-Mobile G1, non-dev phone running Cupcake 1.6. It looks like the 1-Click Rooting will work but first, before i do anything, i wanted to see if this procedure was still working.
Is it?
When i d/l Cyanogen's Mod i noticed that it d/l the update-cm-4.2.5-signed.zip version as well as the 4.2.7.1. Which one should i use?
It looks like the Radio is the same, so that would be one less step to perform, correct?
i'm attaching a .txt file which i've made so that things/steps are a little clearer for me to follow.
Any help would be appreciated. Have a great morning!
I am a total newb on the scene but from what I understand you can still do the one click root as long as you revert back to cupcake (RC7 for europe, RC29 for US? You will need to check). You can't do it on Donut (Which is 1.6 is it not?).
I might be way off, so hopefully someone more experienced can help you.
As far as the rest is concerned, I have no idea, sorry.
Sigh. i think you're correct -- i already have the 1.6 - Donut. Grrr.
Now i gotta figure out how to get back down to 1.5.
Thanks, zamtetsuken, that was a great help. Maybe i should just stick to the "If it's not broke, don't fix it." routine.
What advantages have you seen with your change to root?
Have a great afternoon!
You're most welcome.
I have been reading (and watching videos) from this website: http://theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/htc-g1-dream/ today and they have videos that show you how to get back to cupcake, the 1-click root for the G1 and other good stuff.
I haven't actually done it yet, I am trying to do a lot of reading before I do try it, just so I don't mess things up. I know which rom I want to use but some methods require to have a SDCard reader when you're flashing the radio, rom etc, so I need to see if there is a work around as I do not have one. All I hear is good stuff about rooting though, apart from obviously those who brick their phone.
If you do it please let me know how you got on .
If you're running 1.6, part of one of the threads says that you can format your SDcard with your telephone! You don't need a card-reader. i don't have one either and am running PCLinuxOS 2009, fully updated on my home computer.
Have a great afternoon! and thanks for the link to the videos!

Yeah, I knew about the format option in 1.6 but in one of those videos once he reverts to cupcake (I believe) he takes out the SD Card while the phone is off and then puts the files on the card and then puts it back into the phone and switches it on. I will have to find out whether I can do it differently,
Thanks for the reply , you going to try it?

Hey! Congratulations!!! Wow! i'm stuck on the "Set up Gmail." Since i don't have a 3G Plan i'm in the process of getting past STEP1, Sub-section 6 -- lol.
i'm going to call a friend - my son-in-law - and get him to read off the APN settings on his G1. i set it up for him and i think we use the same carrier, TelCel. i need the MCC and MNC settings - i think, in order to get WiFi on this. Then i can set up Google and proceed.
i also had some strange things happen even in Sub-section 4! But it's fixed, so we're still hangin' in there.
Thanks for posting again, Congrats!, and have a wonderful evening!

Wanting to tether my hero to Linux, HELP!

Ok. So I have an HTC Hero CDMA with Fresh ROM 1.1. I have the wifi-tether app installed, but my desktop does not have wireless. I normally use PdaNet on Windows 7, but I am now dual booting Ubuntu 9.10 with Windows 7 Ultimate. I want to USB tether my phone to either Ubuntu 9.10 or OpenSuse 1.1. I have tried the little "Sprint MNS rig" and it fails for me every time and every way. I am open to anything! I will even wipe my phone and install a new ROM if needed! I just really want to USB tether my phone to Linux! Thanks!
Unfortunatly, the USB tether app doesn't work on our Hero.
Have you tried running PDAnet in Wine?

Well I used to tether my diamond to linux all the time and afaik you should be able to get it.
Look up the guide that uses the race condition(enabling sharing before connection grabs), it's on this forum.
Setup a dial up connection in KPPP or w/e your choice is. Have the connection dial #777 and fill in anything for user/pass and that may work.
Best I can think of at the moment.
ROFLMAO.
That link works for me too.

If you're going to attempt to be a smart ass, at least read the post first instead of seeing what other people say and repeat them.
AFAIK, most desktops do not come with built in wireless cards. Seems you can pick up a small selection of motherboards from Newegg that have a/b/g, but that's about it.
I repeat however, have you tried PDAnet in Wine?
My Windows 7 desktop doesn't have wireless either.
But wireless pci cards are getting cheaper as we speak. That's an option I guess?

Hey smart ass? First off, I said DESKTOP. Secondly, Lets say I DID have a laptop with Windows 7 and no wireless, you mocking it is NOT solving my problem, which is why your post should be reported for low quality. Lastly, "whats the use having a laptop without wireless?" Isn't even a sentence. Stay off my threads. Thanks
And to the guy recommending PdaNET on Wine, No I haven't dude I am looking into it right now.
Here's something else to look into
http://code.google.com/p/azilink/
If you can get the race condition to work, the KPPP connection should work.
If not, try the VPN.
As far as using Wired Tether on 2.1, it seems it runs, the Su request goes through, the computer make the "hardware plugged in noise," but as far as getting data to transfer, nothing.
However I'm at my Mom's house, and her USB ports are all screwed up, so my tests are inconclusive.

so don't post asking for somebody to figure it out for you unless you search first.
Tethering works just fine for me. It comes up as a wifi access point in network manager, and it also comes up in iwlist for an essid. im using gentoo btw
And im using the wireless tether app which comes in most custom roms to do my tethering
you can download the said app here : http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/

Wired tether(the app) doesn't work. I've tried on 1.6, 2.01 and 2.1. It's an incompatibility with our Heros it seems.

Secondly, You must not have learned your lesson about READING THE POSTS huh? I said I have been searching since 5 A.M. for an answer but all have failed, or aren't companionable.
Lastly, I have already found that. For some reason, I can not establish a connection. It will not even pick up the fact that there is a wired connection.
P.S. Proxoid is NOT what I am looking for. It does not connect like an internet connection and I have to go through every program I want to use for the internet and change the proxy settings manually. Not only that, it lags, disconnects, and the response time is terrible.

Oh, my b. And in the 2.1 build, if you go into wireless settings and enable mobile network sharing, it comes as an interface usb0 in which you can dhcpcd it to gain internet access
I haven't tested this, but you could probably get the same usb0 interface using this app: http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/

Flashing OTA issues

So I bought a Nexus 6 on Amazon when they were on sale. I used wugfresh NRT and unlocked it, rooted it (no custom recovery) and then updated the files for tethering. Its activated on Verizon if that matters-
I got an update today, I was running LMY48I and I choose the file to update to LMY48M. I used the NRT and sideloaded it, and after I was done it still shows I have LMY48I, and a few hours later the OTA shows up at in my notifications again.
What am I doing wrong?

what are you doing wrong? oh, thats an easy one..! you havent done any research into the phone that you are using. i bet you probably used a toolkit to root it as well. anyways, for the 20 billionth time ill repeat it. you can not take an ota if you are not completely, 100% stock. and root is not stock. on top if that, many completely stock nexus 6 cant take updates as well, if any system files have changed.

Your help is awful, condescending and rude. Maybe its the effect of the internet, but that is how it sounds. I did root using a toolkit- and I used the same toolkit to sideload the OTA. I assumed that I could do that since that is what the 40 threads I read about told me to do. I have a job and a wife and kids, I don't have the time to be a full time developer for my phone just to enjoy it. ALL I needed root for, was to enable tethering- otherwise I'm happy with stock android.
I will take one thing from what you did write and assume that because I edited the build.prop to enable tethering I will not be able to sideload OTA's either? IF I can't, thats fine with me- Can you tell me how to disable the OTAs?
Anyone else know how to read a question and offer an answer without insults?
I did find out how to hide the OTA notification- it was so easy I feel dumb- but not having used a 5.x android before this one I couldn't have known it.

But his answer is 100% correct. If you change any system file cannot OTA. Don't kill the messenger. No OTA with root, Kernel, change build.prop. Or custom recovery. If change any file no OTA.

i apologize, i was a little ruder than i meant to be. but not much, just a little. and i bet that you didnt learn much about the rooting process using the toolkit? anyways, before ever even rooting the phone, you have to do some research about it. or you wouldnt be asking such a basic question. heck, search can a rooted nexus 6 take an ota on google. one search, its all it really needs to take. anyways, it doesnt matter that you have a job, a wife, kids, this applies to everyone, do some research. im not a youngster myself, lol.
Obviously you read only the first sentences of everything I write... its Ok I notice you are from Brooklyn- I can forgive you for not using southern manners that I am accustomed to. I am not trying to take an OTA- I was trying to sideload it using ADB. I know I can't take it normally.

As someone with a job, a wife and kid and I can assure you, nothing is more frustrating than to do the research after something happened, phone not working while waiting for calls or whatever other inconvenience.
What simms22 tried to convey is "know thy phone".
If you look for how to "root your nexus" you'll see how simple the pRocess is and you might feel better using the tools needed, rather than trusting some obscure tool that could always come with even more payloads.
Simms22 is someone who helped hundreds after they got themselves stuck after using root kits, his frustration I think lies more in the continued pushing of root tool kits for phones that don't need it.
The tone you took personal was directed at the root kits, at them being allowed, as they create just as much problems as they promise to fix.
Know thy Nexus, it's really a great thing.
Sorry if the reply is maybe a little long, must be all this not posting in a while

Well, Hopefully I didn't mess things up using the toolkit instead of doing it the other ways: I know its not much harder to do it other ways, I'm just pressed for time. A few things about my situation:
I live in the country of Texas where I don't have ANY internet service providers. I have however, an old unlimited data plan from Verizon and a pretty good signal strength that I've boosted with a custom built amplifier (we also have metal roof that blocks a lot of signal otherwise)
I NEED internet so I don't become a savage. My phone tethering the internet is my PRIMARY way of having internet. Its very important that I can tether my unlimited plan...
After flashing the system.img and the radio img it booted back up no problems and I had lost root- I re-rooted it and changed the build.prop to allow tethering.
However- I dun F&*ked up somewhere, because now I can't seem to get LTE and my service is terribad. I'm assuming it was flashing the radios? Maybe because its verizon crap I need to do something else...
This has been a 5 hour ordeal (I watched tv during it all...) but now my phone doesn't quite do what i need it to do.

Last night before bed, the phone appeared to be working fine: it was tethering and data was working. This morning I find that I can't call out or receive calls. I tried lots of things to fix this: none worked. Any ideas?
It appears to be stuck hanging up...

have you tried a reboot?
Yes, and I tried a few other things. Right now, I've factory reset the device and I will re-root it and change build.prop I was trying to NOT have to do that. Right now its back to stock and not rooted... but it makes calls and is updated to the 48M build.
I was trying to enable VOLTE and HD calling which appears to be what messed it up probably (although flashing radios might have done it... )
I used the *#*#4636#*#* to check it and it was all sorts of messed up and not connecting to any towers. I'm in my classroom lab and it was making all the speakers go crazy... something was badly messed up
Mine did it last night. I had to wipe dalvik and cache in TWRP to get it back. Has happened occasionally since 5.0. The one I call can hear me. I don't hear them or the phone ringing. Completely dead on my end. VOLTE was disabled in settings.

Obviously you read only the first sentences of everything I write... its Ok I notice you are from Brooklyn- I can forgive you for not using southern manners that I am accustomed to. I am not trying to take an OTA- I was trying to sideload it using ADB. I know I can't take it normally.
I'm currently downloading the system.img from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
I'm going to try and flash just the system.img and cache.img so I can update to the newest version without going back to stock.
I also found out how to hide the OTA update

You keep referencing that you found how to disable the ota notification - do tell. This would help.

Noob question on Note 9

Hello everyone,
I'm Noob to this territory and been searching the web to no end, but with little results.
Long story short, I have a Note9 that I'm trying to get into, this is my old phone i have upgraded to an S20, the phone had a encrypted pin that has prompted me after each reboot, i have used the pin without any issues, however once i transferred the data from not 9 to S20 I was getting invalid PIN, and i know the PIN as I used it constantly. The phone was managed by Google Workspace Admin.
After consulting with Google support we removed the PIN on the google, however Unfortunately i won't get pass the boot process.
My question would be is there any way I can bypass this requirement by flashing the bootloader or anything that might be available at all, i have some valuable files and some family photos which are more valuable to me that weren't transferred over. At this point I'm ready to try anything even if it means the phone be bricked as it seems so far I only have the option to wipe it out.
The developer options are enabled on the phone, as far as i remember.
Anyone?
Thank you for reading and I will be more than happy to provide any more info for anyone willing to point me to the right direction, I'm not looking to be spoonfed, just pointed out to what i can do if anything can be done. I do own the phone its my phone, and this is NOT for any malicious purposes, jut to get access to the phone I own it and to my personal files.
