I have an old HTC Vivid. It has been working fine since about last week, when it only charged if I held the charger a certain way. I gave up on charging it with the charger and used a battery charger to charge it. That worked well until this morning. Now pressing the power button does nothing. Plugging it in with the HTC Charger turns the screen on to show 100% charged and the charge light turns green. Pressing the power button makes both the screen and the LED turn off. I've tried:
Power + Vol. Up
Power + Vol. Down
Power + Vol. Up + Vol. Down
Power (30 Sec)
Nothing works.
What do you mean "battery charger". The cradle that you put the battery into and then plug into the wall?
When you plug your phone into the computer do you hear the ping it usually makes when something is plugged in?

Yes, a battery "cradle". I used to hear the ping it makes when you plug it in immediately followed by the ping it makes when something is plugged out. The charger port smells like it's been burnt out.

I was just listening to music from TF3D and all of a sudden the screen turned off, music stopped, and the power button at the top was glowing red for a few seconds. I tried turning it back on, removing and reinserting the battery, but nothing happens. I can't turn it back on at all!
One thing I do notice is if I remove the battery, and plug in the usb cable connected to my computer, the power button glows red, but I can't turn it on. If I insert the battery, and then plug in the USB, the button doesn't glow red.
How would I recover the phone?

Try charging your phone for about an hour. The red light under the power button happened to me when i had used up all of my juice.
yeah i had the same problem and i had been very frightened of it...
just charge it...
Ah ok. Weird! Because when I was listening to music I had just taken it off the charger and it said 90% battery! And I had only listened to one song. I guess the battery meter was telling me false info =(
Thanks all
well maybe your battery was still kinda "new" so it wasnt showing correct data
a red light?
cool ... is this a phone or a light-generator?
it was the first pda with making so much noises by optical... but is good ...
Can anyone explain me how is the red light under the power button? The light doesn't come out from the illumination light, does it? I wanna see how is the light. Screenshot will be better.
It doesnt come out form the illumination light. It's by the power button. Usually it blinks when your battery is at 5% or close to total drained.
It´s a light that´s gives you battery error. I spent 2 days trying to figure it out because my phone wasn´t turning on and the red light was continuissly showin off, at the end it was because of a cheap wall charger (5V and 500ma, when SE uses 5v with 700ma) I just charged with SE wall charger and everything went back to normal.
In your case maybe one of you battery cells broke and that´s why it´s was at 90% giving you that hateful red light.
Here is a post conserning your problem:

i think the battery is low quality fake..
i found out that the fasted way to charge your empty battery is:
1. remove your battery
2. insert you mini usb charger (NOT usb>mini-usb from your computer)
3. watch if the red light is on. (underneath your power button)
4. insert your battery.
5. after 5/10 minutes your X1 is working again.
you can do it by just plugging your charger on when it's empty but then it can take up to 2 days (YES, i have experienced it) to make your X1 working again.
another way is, just plug the wall charger to your x1 then leave it there. the x1 do not wake up that quick because the charge voltage goes up grandually/slowly for protect your battery and phone after the battery voltage same as charge voltage, then it can be charge normally*
Thank god that I read this topic yesterday. Otherwise I would have pissed my trousers because I had the same light today.
I have a problem with the Xperia X1, power button bright red...
I tried charging it and still nothing
so too, and I have had. Connect the Xperia into pc usb and wait for 15 minutes. Pull the battery and insert again, so a few times. You can also wake up the batteries, you must connect the batteries with the + and - to the battery (5.0 volts max.). If you have an old usb cable and cut it will have 4 wires, black and red you need to know to use red +, black -, connect the USB cable to the pc and connect the battery + to +, - to -. I did this and it works
And again it wont turn on....
Connect the battery as I said? Wait until warm. Then insert the the Xperia and connect the charger, it has to work
How long to hold the battery on the USB
5 minutes, so it was with me after 5 minutes, put the batteries into the charger and plug Xepria, see if you will charge, the LEDs will flash illumination, if so it is good
It doesn't works...
take the battery out of the phone for 30 seconds or more
put battery in the phone
plug in wall usb charger and insert in to the phone
DO NOT try to switch on the phone
after 30 minutes try to switch on the phone
fingers crossed this works for you
Doesn't work
can you enter bootloader mode?
with charger plugged in after a few minutes try pressing power on key and volume up
No, can't :\
Not working for me
Ilumination light doesn't work, btw battery is down, i will buy another battery and i will try
My HP Touchpad was working fine until a few days ago, my little sister was using it and she drained the battery. I plugged it into the wall socket and it started giving the drained battery/charging sign. I let it charge over night but in the morning it was still giving the same sign. Also the homescreen button had a white light blinking(to and fro). I still let it charge for 5-6 hours but still nothing. I went online to look up what was wrong and read that the cylindrical adapter has a twist-and-lock feature and this can become slightly untwisted over time and so i untwisted it and re-attached it(heard the click) and then connected the cable. But now, there is no charging sign, no blinking light, the PWR +HOME and PWR+HOME+VOL option isnt working. Any idea guys?
USB cable often faulty

The USB cable that comes with the tablet often breaks. If you're still using the original one try a different cable and leave it charging overnight. You can also hold down the Power button and click the Home key 14 times for a reboot, holding power and home usually works when the TP is not responding. Hope this helps:fingers-crossed:
Hey guys! My HTC One won't turn on. My phone was on 17% when i connected it to charger. After sometime i checked my phone to make sure it was charging and everything was alright my phone charged to 37% when I last checked. After 2:30 hours i checked my phone and it was showing charging LED but wasn't on.I tried to turn it on but it didn't turn on. Also no when i connect my phone to charger it won't show charging LED. I tried Volume up,down and power button method, and i also tried volume up and power button under a bright light. It just won't turn on. I connected my phone to my PC. Its only show a QHSUSB_BULK HS-USB QDLoader 9008 Driver. Any help would be appreciated.
Note: Its a rooted Sprint HTC one m8.
How long did you hold down the power & volume buttons for? Did you hold all three buttons down at the same time?
Also, what ROM & firmware were you on? Or were you stock rooted? How long have you had the phone, and was it new or used when you bought it?
I had a similar problem a few years ago. My phone screen would turn off on its own. I would then have to restart it Finally I noticed that the Orange charge LED would not show when plugged in to a power source. When plugged in to a source the Orange LED showed for a moment, then turned off. Once dead, I could not charge it to restart. Sent to HTC and they said the motherboard died. Initially charged me 300 dollars, but I told them it was better for me to buy a Nexus at that price. They lowered it to 150 dollars and I got it repaired. Now days, again I am noticing the screen going dark on its own, but it is difficult to enable the screen by clicking the power button. The phone is on, but just dark screen. Currently I am rooted and S-On with Stock ROM.

Connect your phone to 2-2.5 amp WALL charger(original or another OEM original, original chargers are sold only in brand shops), and cheap cables most of the time don't work either.
wait 15-20 minutes and hold power button + vol up + vol down for 30 seconds.
Same thing happened with me but I was in recovery on low battery(while plugged in). You will also lose simlock if you are international user.
Check the screenshot in this thread, if you have the same thing showing on Windows Device Manager then it's most definitely a flat battery.

I went through it. try holding the power button, connect the cable and only release after the battery shows 1%. you can try holding the power and volume + or power and volume - buttons too instead of Power button only, in the same way. alternatively, you can leave it on the charger for hours and it might turn on. Make sure you are using the supplied xiaomi charger
If I plug the cable or I plug and hold the power button the phone just tries to boot continuously showing the battery icon and then turning off and repeat, nothing really happens
Is that what is supposed to happen?

Yes, It happens. Luckily the phone will reach 1% and charge normally, keep trying
You actually saved me, it worked in the end, after some loops it booted alone, all I had to do was just let it sit there, didn't even have to keep power button all the time, once it started the loop I just left it there and when I came back it was booted.
