I found that my XT1068 wasn't fast enough to handle Marshmallow and I felt like throwing it away so I thought before I do that, I'll stick Kitkat back on and see how it handles it.
Everything went well except one thing, the rear camera (most useful) doesn't work. I've tried Google Camera and the stock camera app..
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm rooted and have TWRP.

That's because your phone was shipped with lp, and this means that you have a Toshiba front cam, which isn't supported by kitkat (missing drivers). Sadly, you can't do anything with that. If you need the front camera, you have to update to mm or lp.
I've got screenshots of it running Kitkat and http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g_dual_sim_(2nd_gen)-6648.php states it was running Kitkat.
It's the rear camera, the non-selfie camera. Any way to tell what brand of camera it is?
Try the GB version it solved the camera problem for me. This is the download link OWNLOAD Firmware KXB21.85.23 - GB Region (UK) http://www.mediafire.com/download/a...Sim+RETAIL+GB+(UK)+KXB21.85-23-by-Reefuge.zip
Looks like that solved it. Thank you so much!
I'm glad I could help.
4.4.4 stock works on ur device ???
Yes it does.

Since I did a factory reset?! on this phone ages ago, only the front camera works.
I've 3 file flashed back to GB etc, can't get it to work. Does someone have a link to the camera firmware for me to flash please, or any ideas as to what the problem may be?
Thanks

You can find firmware here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
These are also possible problems:
1) Your default camera.apk has an issue -- Try another camera app, such as fxcamera, camera 360, etc
2) Do you have other apps that use the camera? Like mirror or flashlight apps or something? It might be interferring. Actually it could be other apps interfearing too. I'd make a back-up and start uninstalling suspicious apps.
3) It could also be also a hw problem. Hopefully not.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply
It can't be the camera .apk or rogue app because its like that with different ROMs. I've got 3 fresh nandroid backups on my SD... Newest helly bean, newest x-bean, and my usual slim 2.7, and its the same with them all.. and I 3 file flashed GB and that made no difference either..
So I think like u say it could be a hardware problem, hope not... But I've got a feeling its the camera firmware. I've never regged with sammobile, cos its got one of those captcha things that I can't do by phone, so I never knew they had the camera firmware..
Going to register and try that, and I'll report back..

Registered for sammobile, but I can't find any camera firmware. I'm sure I've read somewhere that there is such a thing..
So unfortunately I'm still stuck until I find out if camera firmware does exist.. I'm sure I was told that a while ago there was an update camera firmware setting in the camera options in an old version of GB.
Or is there files or a folder in root that I could try overwriting with someone else who has a working cameras version????
Thx..

Hmm I also just looked for it and I couldn't find it either.
Google search didn't even give me 1 proper hit. So I'm suspicious if there is a specific firmware update for camera.
Interestingly I could find it for S3.
Kies should detect any needed firmware upgrades. Have you tried?
http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/mobile/mobile-phones/smartphones/GT-I9000HKABMC-support
Good idea, something I've never ever used is kies. Definitely worth a shot, but I've got a feeling I'm gonna have to flash GB again before it will want to play :-/
Gotta be tried though so I'll need to do it. Failing that I think I'll buy a new camera module, just in case it is hardware...

Okay so I just flashed my phone to the stock GE 4.3 RUU, as per the guide in the original android dev forum. So far everything is amazing, apart from the camera.
Every time I try to load it, it says it can't find camera and then gallery bugs out on me and both camera and gallery crash.
Can anyone help me out, maybe provide me with a 4.2.2 camera apk to see fi that might help?

Okay looks like there was a bug in the RUU, I believe it is patched now but the way I got round it was the flash the 4.2.2 stock and then upgrade through OTA to 4.3
i hope someone can help me with this. i have sent my HTC One back to HTC for repair and since i have gotten it back the camera no longer works on anything but kitkat. There are some roms i want to try that are jellybean such as miui. (which prior to sending it back it worked beautifully) now on the miui rom it only loads the ffc and looks terrible. on other roms it just doesnt load at all. i will attach a logcat. any help with this would be great. please dont suggest that it is a hardware defect. as stated it works fine on kitkat roms,

Thes same thing is happening to me..i have sent my htc one to service centre for replacement of mic btu after the day of repairing my front camera is not opening on any rom....i think they have done something to my phone..
I also sent my phone in but before JB or KK and now when i update my firmware the camera works but video doesn't. The good thing for me i guess is ViperROM has been a solid rom..
Well let's not mix this up please.
My issue is only when using a jellybean Rom that only the ffc works or the camera doesn't work at all. The camera works perfectly well on kitkat roms.

If you don't believe you have a hardware issue and you have the latest firmware either by ruu or other ways the only real thing you can do is wait for the next ruu or update to come out and see if that fixes your issue. I dont think (could be wrong) devs are going to fix issue for one phone. Try taking it to Sprint and see what they can do for you...
But how could it be hardware if it works on kitkat roms? If it were hardware I don't think it would work on any roms.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Are you s-off? When you installed JB Rom did you install the firmware from the JB update. It could be that your KK firmware is your issue.
I believe I ruud back to the original firmware when I was trying a few weeks ago I can check again when I have more time

I will take an educated guess on experience. Chances are that you got a new camera with that new camera is a completely different camera that doesn't have JB drivers, only KK.
Also can see Sprint/HTC (end even Google) that KK is the standard today, that JB is outdated and your phone probably came back from the repair center with KK on it.
I was wondering if that could be it. You are correct it came with kk on it after the repair job.

Hey Guys,
I recently flashed GoldernEye Rom 22 and everything is great, except the camera. I for the life of me cannot get any camera to work or any patches to work. anytime i open a Camera APK they stop working. or only the front camera works.
Setup
s4 Active ATT
ML2 Baseband
Safestrap 3.71
Golden Eye Rom (GE-i337-NAA-21-Safestrap with the following Zips
*jflteatt-active-ML2-modules+key_fix
*GE-SLiM-F4ST-ADV
*Volume_Boosting_Sound_Moderate
Did I flash the wrong Rom? do the camera patches not work with the ML2 Baseband? Im loosing sleep over this stuff!
any help is greatly appreciated. The Rom is fast, great on battery, and very minimalist once all the Bloatware is removed. Best Rom i have flashed thus far except for my camera problem.

Gonna bump this, since I am having the same problem. Flashed HyperDrive via safestrap, and no working camera. Tried flashing a ML2 patch, but no dice. Anyone have any information on this?
@spegelius is working on fixing the camera for the i9295. You might want to check with him and see if he'll put together a flashable zip for you to try. The camera patches that exist now are based on @LeJay camera fix for 4.2.2/CM 10. It seems like the existing camera patches should work, but Samsung may have changed some things between 4.2.2 and 4.3. Hopefully you can get a hold of @spegelius, he's your best bet.

I am on the SGH-i537, but if I read everything correctly so far, the hardware is not different...correct? If so, I'd be willing to test out any zips the devs need testing. What is needed? Libs from the stock or more?
I have to use 4.1.2 becuase of GSM. (I cannot use 4.3/4.4 because it will connect to T-Mobile HSPA but not send/recieve data.) Camera will work on 4.3 and 4.4 easily. But, on 4.1.2 using stock deodexed, it won't start the camera. The camera just force closes. I am on the first firmware, too.

Yeah, I have even tried that.
If you sent your phone in for repairs or got it new post the camera fix then the camera module isn't backward compatable with some roms like miui u will not get access to the back camera

Hmm that shouldn't be happening. Kind of strange. A possible solution however, is to flash the latest firmware, but I'm not sure how that would react to the old Android version. So if you want to be adventurous, try that out. If not though, go to Sprint/HTC and get it fixed from them.
After using SVN checkout on that Sense 5 and 4.2.2 ROM, and installing it camera worked. But only the front facing one, and it had the pink tint (I fixed it by changing settings though). I tried replacing libs from newer ROMs and made it worse. So, I'm getting close.

I have the same issue that you did. I cannot upgrade my android version cause of GSM and my camera isn't working would you be kind enough to explain how you were able to fix it, I would really appreciate it, thank you
