Hey guys - the only reason I root is to apply adaway and change the build.prop file to enable tethering. I realized I could do that with a flashable zip file now, and have no need to root. You can keep using Android pay, etc. Best of both worlds.
Attached is the recovery flashable zip. This will overwrite your /etc/hosts file and your build.prop file with the stock build.prop plus noprovisioning edit. I assume it will work on any phone - but be sure to backup first.
Also, I don't know a ton about how to make these zip files, so I used the MOAAB zip file as a template. Therefore, ignore the messages that come up when you flash the zip about reverting to stock, etc.
EDIT: So, I realized the build.prop needs to come from whatever build you have installed. I've updated the file with the build number that it will work on.
Thanks for sharing this!
I wants this ... for the N preview! Thanks!

If you have existing SuperSU. Uninstall it by using unSU. Then install systemless SuperSU 2.71.

Hello,
I've heard if you install an adblocker it may interfere with group messages. Can you still group message via MMS with this installed?
Can you update to lastest vendor? Thanks

This is just a flashable stock unrooted ROM for anyone wanting a copy to flash via CWM as opposed to fastboot. It was literally the JDQ39 system image dumped into the dsixda kitchen and thrown straight back out with NO changes whatsoever - it's not even deodexed! Useful if you need to use an app which can still detect root even after using a root-hider app (e.g. to watch Sky Go in the UK)
It is the 100% untouched, unmolested system image
Enjoy...

Far as I know, OTA is dependent on the recovery. So you would still need stock recovery to pull the OTA.
Someone feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. I came from an HTC monstrosity, and we all know how easy those are to modify.

Hmm. Though we would get "Failed" upon an ota via s3 I remember regardless of recovery it would indeed update as well as patch recovery. But I'm not saying this is the case on nexus devices as this indeed is my first.

Hey swirly ..as you approach a possible flash coming from this flash able stock zip would you mind posting any positive results if any with your performance and battery? You didn't keep a stock from first flash?. I always do. Good ole flashback unroot then delete twrp (depending if really needed as s3 wasn't) then protect root with root keeper then unroot take ota then load saved root. If this doesn't work on nexus 4 I'd love to know but worked on RAZR rezound and s3..if not I'll report in a created thread via next update. My reason is I like having that true first stock backup. Good for fresh installs of custom when reverting first. IMO lol

Just a quick question. If you flash this and then flash stock recovery, can you basically unroot by doing that? It'll be much easier (at least in my opinion) of you could just flash the rom to unroot and go back to pure stock
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Well the truth is that if you have cwm 6+ the OTA installs with no problem and if you are root, it keeps it too! Just for your information the OTA needs system ,bootloader, radio, boot.img unmodified.
TBH I made this to help people too lazy to flash the stock factory image from Google. I'd always recommend the factory image personally
Gapps requirement
Is gapps required after flashing the ROM?
Obviously most are aware Google Play have blocked any ad blocking apps but i had an apk. of AdAway from my Galaxy S3 so i installed it on my One but it does not appear to block all ads like it used to even when i manually update it and reboot there's always ads in certain apps, am i using an older version of this apk. or does anyone else have an alternative apk'. of any ad blocking app i could use, or is it something to do with the phone itself?
Cheers
unless you're running a modified kernel with the protection of /system partitions disabled, your host file gets replaced by default every time you reboot.
I've adblock 2.3 and it works fine, i don't have ads in apps
Which version do you have?
And see if you aren't running a custom kernel with /system partition protection disabled.
Have Trickdroid on my phone so I choose stock kernel as it's the most stable i believe, not ready to flash custom kernel yet as development is still in the early stages, running same version as above stated and not sure it blocks any ads, any other way around this without flashing a custom kernel?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
There's a mod that removes the protection from the stock kernel. It's in the development section.

Had better luck with adblock plus than adaway, might want to try that instead.
This was one of the first things I installed (all of yesterday, when I got it).
First thing to note is that you don't have to reboot the phone, despite what the app says. Just activate it and go back to Home screen. In fact, a reboot, as noted above, will undo the effects of Ad-away.
I did notice that it seemed to disable itself at one point today, unless my phone rebooted at some point in my pocket without my knowledge, which would be disconcerting.

Per post 12 you can currently get AdAway here either directly or by installing F-Droid market (alternative to Play store)

Aye you can grab it here:
https://adblockplus.org/downloads/adblockplusandroid-1.1.2.apk
If you're on stock ROM and don't want to use any kernel patch to make your /system partition writable, you can flash this little zip through recovery (e.g. CWM) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327934. Does exactly the same as the app (blocking hosts through system's hosts file) but applied via recovery
Hello all! If you've ever wanted to use the CM12, CM12s, or CM based ROM's stock messaging app (mms.apk) because of the theme engine and noticed that your MMS pictures were terrible quality then this is the fix for you!
By default the pictures are formatted to be downsized to 480x640 causing it to get super pixelated. With this modded Mms.apk the resolution was brought back up to 1920x1080 and the images aren't pixelated!
This was tested on my OPO, but testing on other CM12 powered devices would be appreciated!!
Step 1:
Download for CM12: Mms.apk
Download for CM12.1: Mms.apk
Step 2:
Move Mms.apk to /system/priv-app/Mms and overwrite the original apk.
Step 3:
Change permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot!!
I used apktool and the apk files from Exodus (awesome ROM, you should check it out) so big thanks to @iBotPeaches (and other contributors) for the lollipop supported apktool:
http://ibotpeaches.github.io/Apktool/
Special thanks to @froggymike911 for the CM11s MMS fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/low-res-mms-fix-t2822970
What problems you can run into:
-It will say "There is a problem parsing the package" if you try to regular install. This is a file that MUST be pushed manually to the system.
-If the apk doesn't install, try to use a different file explorer w/ root privileges. ES File Explorer is the one I use (and recommend )
Enjoy using the stock messenging app!!

What is your operator? It depends on what your operator can send as a max amount of data. Also, if you update to a certain nightly build on CM 12.1 it will stop working (I sold my OPO so I can't test anymore ).
