Greetings,
I have a H811 that is stock but rooted. Lots of LG & T-mobile bloat removed. I am getting a update.zip downloaded & wants to update to Marshmallow. I thought I removed the OTA apps but apparently not. How do I stop this from trying to download & update? Thanks.
Pat
From what I understand, Google Play is responsible for downloading update.zip. You can remove the OTA nag by disabling notifications for Google. Just long press the notification and disable notification and you will no longer get the nag. Then you can delete update.zip and replace it with a 0 KB file with the same name.

I'm sorry, I don't remember. I'm not on LL anymore. Disable them both. You'll have to reboot after you disable notifications. The nag won't come back. Let us know if it worked.

Right, that's expected behavior. Did you delete update.zip and replace it with a 0 KB file named update.zip?

Did it again last night. I don't know what app is causing this.
Was your 0 KB file overwritten? Did you get the OTA nag again? It shouldn't happen if Google notifications was disabled.

Yes my 0kb file was overwritten with the full update.zip. I did have notifications off. I never got a notification. I woke up with my phone rebooted into TWRP & my battery almost empty. I booted into system & there was the file.

I'm really sorry about that. I never checked to see if the dummy 0kb file was ever overwritten. The phone never booted into twrp either like that. If you ever find a solution, let us know!

Well, I found a article about going into the hidden menu & there is a setting there to disable OTA. I will not know for a week or so if it worked. I will update you when I think I know. Thanks for the help.

Just an update. The phone did it again last night after I disabled OTA updates in the hidden menu. It may be something I have to live with. I guess I could update to MM but I really do not want to. I see no good reason to.

Simply long press on the notification and disable it.

Notifications are already disabled for Google Play Services. The update.zip is downloading to my phone every few weeks & my phone reboots to TWRP.
Did you press and hold the notification? That's what did it for me.

Hey Everyone,
How are you Guys today?
I received the OTA Notification on my phone about System Update (305.5MB).
Someone can tell me how can I Rid of this Update on my Phone?
At the moment I am happy with 4.3 but the Notification of the update do not want go away and I have to be really carefully all the time to do not click the Update now.
There is any way to disable this Update on my phone with the Notification?
BTW, I am on Stock.
You can go to settings/Apps/All and force to stop Update Center. The bad news is that you will have to do this after every reboot.
alternativly i think gravitybox has options to choose which notifications to hide, i personally use LBE as a firewall so i use it to hide unwanted notifications

I know. :good:
I just waiting for a future Development when I will be able to use my SD to install Apps or move data into it.
Hello, everyone. Long time reader, first time poster.
I just finished rooting my new Developer's Edition GSM unlocked Moto X. As I started to freeze the usual apps that are necessary in order to stop OTA notices and lessen the likelihood of sending my device into a bootloop by mistake, I noticed that the apps that I had on my Verizon Droid Maxx aren't here. I saw some threads that stated that I needed to freeze update.apk, MotorolaOTA, FOTA, and rename otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak.
Of all of those steps, I've only been able to do two of them: freezing MotorolaOTA and renaming otacerts.zip.
Where can I find the other two apps to freeze? Is it even necessary if I've already frozen MotorolaOTA and renamed otacerts? When I had my Droid Maxx, I was unable to click on System Updates in About Phone without the app crashing. Here, after freezing and renaming these two apps, I can still check for updates, which leaves me a little worried.
Thank you for your help.
3C_OTA.APK is one you want to rename.. It exists in /system/apps or /system/priv-app (I forget which).

Great, I went ahead and renamed that one 3C_OTA.APK.BAK. I can still check for updates in System Updates, which is something I couldn't do on my Droid Maxx after freezing all the OTA apps.
Is that normal for this phone? Are there any other apps / files I need to take care of?
Thanks for the reply!
Any other ideas? The fact that I can still check for an update makes me nervous. I'm just trying to confirm that this was all I needed to do.

MotorolaOTA 1.0 is what I froze on my retail X (while it was downloading an update) and as soon as it was frozen, the download icon in the status bar disappeared :good: I'm not sure where the apk is located to move/rename since I used tibu to freeze it.

Renaming 3C_OTA.APK has worked for me and others who wanted to block OTA notifications..
here are links to just a few times before that it has been suggested...

I'm sure if you searched, you could find more instances of it being suggested, and successful.

Good idea. I just extracted system.img from LMY48i and flashed only the system.img LMY48i with the fastboot method with PC connected.
Result an updated N6. But some things needed to be restored:
- SuperSU and Busybox.
- Build.prop tweaks (dpi 384, WiFi interval)
- Black Google now launcher
- Icons on the screen
so with that, it blocks out all notifications by google play services. Would that also stop prompting me when apps need manual intervention to update?

Is there anyway to disable the system update notification? For a variety of reasons I don't want to upgrade to 6.0 yet. I have root on stock debloated 5.1
Thanks.

I tried two rooted debloated roms that both said OTA disabled and i got the nag notification on both. Disappointing!
Same here! I myself used TB to freeze all the system apps which were supposed to trigger the OTA updates, but I still got it. I moved the update.zip from the cache directory somewhere else, so if I accidentally hit update, nothing will happen. But still a nuisance.
Anyone with an idea?
Is this a new problem? For dumb reasons I ended up having to reflash Rydah's stock rooted 5.1 image yesterday and starting mostly all over, it's a pain in the butt. I did freeze pr.adapt and update center but this notification popped up to update. I definitely do not want to update. I thought the rooted ROM blocked updates? I guess not because the notification is there. I tried disabling Google play services notifications but the notification persists.

OK guys, I got rid of my notification. I used titanium backup and froze everything I could on the following list,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/help/debloat-package-list-lg-g4-t-mobile-h811-t3168181
I froze very few from the following list, still working on it after my mishap yesterday.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lg-g4-stock-debloater-list-g4-variants-t3167297
The notification was still there, but I decided to reboot and now the notification is gone. Hopefully it sticks. Where can I find the update.zip so I can delete it and clear up some space.

Hmm, I found it comes back from time to time. So definitely need to get to the bottom of what pulls down the update. Still don't think we've nailed the offending apk/service.

As of yesterday and last night, update.zip did not return after I froze all those apps. I wish I could've pinpointed the exact app. All I can say was I froze all those apps on the first list, and maybe line one or two from the other list and the notification was still on the screen. I rebooted because after freezing so many apps, I was worried about a boot loop. My phone booted fine and the notification was gone and it didn't come back. I just checked cache and update did not come back
Well damnit, the update.zip came back probably last night. I don't have the notification though, that is gone but I'm not happy having that file come back. If anyone at all can pinpoint the reason it comes back, please post!

Mine came back too. Deleted the update.zip again.. but would like to disable it for sure.
You could always try moving the files, then put a same-named read only (e.g. chmod 440) file in it's place - or maybe safer yet is put a directory of the same name there.
Hi, I recently upgraded to OOS 13 stable version and I found the builtin backup to google does not work anymore if I enable the lockscreen password.
If I remove the lockscreen password, the backup could succeed.
I am wondering whether anyone has the same issue ?
BTW, I have magisk module installed and rooted.

Go to system -> google -> backup
Click backup now, it will prompt the lockscreen and starts to backup, then it will complain 'backup failed'.
Open your google driver and check your backup file, it will show size of zero.

If it's 4 then increase it to 6 and see if it helps..
Shouldn't but give it a whirl
