AOSP custom ROM downgrade - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I have a (Non bricked!) Xt1068. My question is as follows: I know that installing Android 6.0 OTA and then downgrading to LP will brick the device because of the bootloader downgrade. If I install a custom ROM such as AOSP-RRO-6.0.1-20160402-titan-vidhanthbafna and try and downgrade using AOSP-5.1.1-20150531-titan-luk-OLD for example. Will I brick my phone?

XT1064 on Lollipop. How do I relock bootloader?

My bootloader is currently unlocked and I want to relock it. I have an XT1064. I've tried downgrading to 21.11.17 and following the instructions for KitKat but it never works. What can I do?
Unfortunately I have yet been successful doing this. I think it's because some parts of the firmware can't be downgraded. I keep getting pre flash failure
i did just for kicks... and was successful on XT1069.
from what I understand when this problem happens, is related to the ROM you used to do the process that is described in this thread follow these step with a ROM that is perfect and will succeed.
I did with the good xml ROM for my device and it was perfect.
try other ROM xml file... all i now here
One thing, to receive an OTA is not need to be with bootloader locked...
But you must have a untouched original ROM and Recovery installed on the device...
So no root original ROM and recovery just that.
I say this because many worry that is need to have a locked bootloader to receive OTA, and is not.
Have you tried locking after being on 5.0 firmware
I don't remember (i think was 4.4.4 to 4.4.4)... but i will try (5.0.2 to 4.4.4 and lock it) and report. OK, maybe today if not tomorrow...
In theory is the same friend of my did form 5.0.0 to 4.4.4 no problem...

Pretty sure you can only relock 4.4.4 bootloaders (motoboot.img) with the oem lock
If you have updated to a lollipop 5.0.x bootloader you cant downgrade from a 5.0 boot loader and hence cant relock it (yet?)

You can downgrade if use a ROM or a backup to update. the bootloader will remaining the same.
I dont know if you update via OTA to L if the OTA is updating the boot loader...
But yes you can downgrade from 5.0.x to 4.4.4 regards the bootloader if did not update don't see way will not re-lock, if update the OS and bootloader maybe because will not recognize the OS and ROM even if it is all original, but i think it should...
I will tested and report... downgrade and re-lock the bootloader... But my bootloader is the same version it did not update because i use a ROM or a TWRP backup do upgrade to L.
I will update the ROM i using do a clean flash, before i will try the downgrade and re-lock process. :good:

yeah i'm talking bootloader I know you can go up or down between 4.4.4 roms and 5.0 roms , i've tried mfastboot, fastboot (different versions) as people say 'only this version works' and so far not found anything that works
Ever since I upgraded to 5.0 then downgraded 4.4.4 I can not lock the boot loader. I don't think anyone will be able to until there is 5.0 firmware

Restore to Stock, Lock Bootloader After Custom Lollipop ROM

Hey guys,
I am selling my Moto G (XT1068) and I want to restore it to stock Motorola firmware and relock the bootloader first. The thing is, I'm currently running the Titan Prime ROM based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
Can I simply downgrade to official 4.4.4 firmware and then relock the bootloader using a guide like this -- http://www.droidviews.com/restore-moto-g-2014-to-stock-and-lock-the-bootloader/
Or is it not that simply now that I've upgraded to Lollipop? I just don't want to brick the device.
Thanks in advance for the help.
u cant lock bootloader on kk .. flash the lollipop frimware and lock the bootloader..

Help! How to downgrade from marshmallow ( nexus experience rom) to lollipop (stock ro

Can anyone pls tel how do i downgrade from marshmallow 6.0.1 to lollipop 5.0.2?
Currently my bootloader version is 48.83. I dnt remember what it was on lollipop. Pls help!
Just use your backup that you made prior to upgrading to Marshmallow. If you don't have the backup, just flash a different ROM. Plenty of guides on the site.

I have made the backup. But i have heard about many people hard bricking the phone when trying to downgrade and then again upgrading via ota. Thats why i askd.
If u are on custom rom other than motorola marshmallow soak test ota.. you will not get ur phone bricked when downgrading. Hard brick occurs if u downgrad from soak test ota to lollipop. In your case u just need to flash retaildsdsall firmware via fastboot mood. Search for tutorials for reverting to stoc 5.0.2.
Just DON'T CHANGE BOOTLOADER. You shouldn't be able to downgrade bootloaders but Motorola screwed that and with M bootloader you "can" downgrade, but bootloader downgrade results in BRICK. Just flash the rom you want, EXCEPT THE BOOTLOADER. For custom roms you shouldn't have problems.

All I can say is that I was on Nexus Experience 10.0.4 (Marshmallow) but could not get adopted storage to work so restored my previous AOSP lollipop ROM from TWRP backup and no issues. My Bootloader is 48.82. I have never used the soak test version or OTA version of marshmallow.
I have also in the past restored stock lollipop V5.0.2 from other lollipop versions with no issues.

Just a noobie....
Sry if tat was bad English..!!
Just don't downgrade your Bootloader and you should be fine, if you're using an easyinstaller script to flash stock Lollipop make sure and remove the lines of code that flash motoboot.img & I'd also recommend removing the line that flashes gpt.bin to be safe.

To Install a Custom Rom Safely, Plzz Help ... :D

Hi,
I own a Motorola Moto g2 (2014) Indian Version, 16 gb and i am running a stock firmware 5.0.2, rooted and bootloader unlocked. and i want to install a Custom ROM, So i went on to Youtube and find out how to unlock the bootloader and install Super SU.
After that i came to know about this site, and thought of flashing CM 13, and so in order to do that it was required to update bootloader, since it won't work on bootloader 4.4
So, i followed the instructions clearly and updated the bootloader and the TWRP Recovery , Both are successfull.
Now comes the problem part for me:
So when i browsed the xda developers site in the moto g 2014 thread , i came across this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/6-0official-indian-ota-zip-captured-t3299550
It said
So to everyone here. After updating to 6.0 I don't think it's a good idea to downgrade to 5.0.2 and update it with stagefright update over the air.
I made it and it hardbricked my phone.
5.0.2 bootloader version is 48.83
6.0 bootloader version is 48.86
So, don't downgrade your bootloader, it can cause hardbrick!
so, i got afraid, since i am going to install cm 13 nightly which is unstable and the bootloader already updated, will i be having problems when i restore it back to stock 5.0.2
and would it be safe if i installed cm 12.1 after updating the booloader or will it hard brick my phone. (since cm 12.1 is stable version compared to cm 13)
P.S Can someone post a link on how to backup before installing the Custom ROM, since i always see this step:
that is to make a backup using TWRP and then use advanced wipe to wipe the device, the only question is won't the adavanced wipe deletes the backup folder ?
And Is there any stable ROMS for moto g that runs marshmallow, + is it possible to install multi ROM twrp and Install CM 13 Along with the Stock Android

Downgrade with flashable stock rom, is it possible?

Hello,
So I have flashable stock roms for both 5.1 and 6.0 (I think, I haven't upgraded to 6.0 yet to know if it works) and I have the TWRP custom recovery and I'd like to know, if I upgrade my phone to 6.0 with the stock rom, can I just flash it back to 5.1 with it's stock if need be? My phone is a Victara XT1097, the Brazilian model.
