hi guys, is there any hardware buttons combination to boot the device into safe mode ? I know the usual way is long pressing "power off" in power menu, but if you are in a bootloop that won't help you
thanks in advance

press the power button, then long press on power off. then an option for safe mode will pop up. that's the only way. if you're in a bootloop, safe boot won't help you. reflashing your ROM should though.
@simms22 I did a Google search and other devices from Samsung, LG, Oppo etc seem to have the hardware buttons combo to boot in safe mode, motorola shouldn't be an exception right?
It would be useful in case I have to uninstall a theme that wont allow the phone to boot, it hangs on the bootanimation, maybe not a proper bootloop

other devices are just that, other devices, not a nexus. for the nexus, thats the only way. and to solve that issue, just reflash your rom, dirty, and you wont lose a single bit of data. thats the right way to do it on a nexus.
lmao , just ask the right questions and google will spit it right out for you
can confirm pressing vol up and vol down simultaneously while booting will get you safe mode on our device

#1 and #2 we know of, as the op asked for another way from power off. #3 and #4 do not apply here, there is no motorola dual core screen on the quad core nexus 6. so, reflashing the rom is the only solution.

yes those instructions are ancient, but if you press vol up and down simultaneously when the phone starts booting(as soon as the splash screen shows up), device will boot on safe mode
try it out, I did it and it worked [emoji41]
edit: also step 1 and 2 has nothing to do to long pressing the power off option, is just the steps to power off/on the phone

If you have TWRP you can go in and delete everything in /system/vendor/overlay. That'll uninstall your theme.

if you are using a ROM with CMTE that won't work, although is possible you can delete another folder where the offending theme is?not sure
still booting into safe mode with hardware buttons and uninstalling said theme is easier in my eyes

I was installing the MIUI rom on the Nook when I had a lot of FC's. rebooted into recovery using the SC card, and wiped data. After doing that, it is now stuck in CWM, I cannot navigate or reset the device. I pulled the back cover off, and I see that the battery is not removable. I have held down power, click variations of all buttons, and it is still stuck. Any ideas? My google searches have not resulted in a similar issue, just people who can flash CWM but cant get out of it...
Ideas?
smacked it hard. Rebooted. Fixed. (Sort of...)
Press and hold the N button and the Power button for more than 30 seconds, release the power button when you see a flash light on the screen, keep holding the N button.
Play around combination of these 2 buttons until you get the Factory Reset then perform it.

Wow, the exact same thing happen to me, going back to CM.....too bad cuz I love MIUI on my Evo.
OK. Well, I can flash Roms, but I've been having issues with CWM. If I wipe ANYTHING, either factory reset, cache, or davlik cache, it simply locks up.
I'm downloading the stock software with root, and I am going to try again to install MIUI without wiping. Feel free to chime in with any ideas in the mean time.
Thanks guys!

What CM are you using? I tried CM and I had no luck. My EVO LOVES MIUI... My NOOK is hating me. It will LOAD, but can't download anything from the market. Tired flashing a rooted Rom:
http://theunlockr.com/2011/02/01/nook-color-v1-1-1-rooted-rom/
Happy UPDATE!
Tried doing a factory reset from the pushin n button, and it did it, loaded into MIUI, and everything is DANDY.... I don't know how I even did it, but that did it.
MIUI is up and running!
You might want to ensure you have the most up to date version of CWR and rom manager. There have been horror stories of folks getting stuck in bootloop hell because of this. Just saying.....

Ever do something you shouldn't have whilst hacking away at your phone, and end up stuck in a bootloop? Of course you have, because we all have. That will soon be a thing of the past, thanks to the Team Hydro Bootmanager. Usually getting to your Android device's bootloader menu or recovery menu involves mashing and holding buttons, pulling batteries, or in the case of some phone (looking at you LG Optimus Black) a bit of luck because there are no button combinations that work. This jewel resides in the boot image on your phone, pauses the boot-up, and lets you choose how you want to proceed. According to lead developer Drew Walton, it works great, it's stable, will run on just about any phone, and will be ready for public consumption very soon.
*Spoiler alert* Drew is also pretty sure he will be able to expand this, using custom recovery builds (like ClockWorkMod recovery) and create a bootmanager with more options. This would of course be more device specific and less portable, but offer a new way to manage your device. You normal, well adjusted users out there may not be as excited as we hacker types are, but all you crack flashers know just how cool this one will be. I can't wait!

Awesome feature indeed...
This developer wants to call in our black Custom Recovery by a combination of keys?
This is very good, if it would be.
There's no need to press any keys at boot...
You have only to reboot and select recovery, like grub or lilo...
The question would be, is there a timer to boot into the default choice?
Regards.
Yeap much like LILO or GRUB in linux, built in boot.img and it seems the bootmanager menu always loaded before other thing, so you can easily recover or select other system setup, and about timer it costumizeable i think. Cmiiw.
try contact the developer, the one in the photo is optimus s. I'm hoping this feature integrated to our roms or mods, and bricking, bootloop, stuck nightmare will be gone forever

The best solution is to put it into bootloader of the phone which can't be erased (by full wipe) and should always works just like SW Upgrade option.
I think it's more hardware-specific, not software so I think we couldn't add that to our P970's. CMIIW.
For me it looks basically the same as Huexxx's eRecovery for Nova/CM7 but don't need keypress and can be erased with wipe, so it's bad...

Yes boot.img i've mentioned cannot be flashed via recovery. You need a higher root level to do it. I don't know how but this hack surely injected to bootmanager and it loads everytime your device power on. Team Hydro haven't released the detail how this hack works. Hopefully soon

Several posts on Google suggest there is a safe mode for X8, but the typical ways of enabling it (power/menu/volume button combinations) either get me to xRecovery or do nothing at all. Might be a ROM/Android version thing, seeing that -HuntDX- managed to access it.
Nice thing to have, and useful too. Might not have to resort to full wipe/restore backup every time something goes wrong.

Hey guys I need a little help, well okay A LOT of help with my old captivate I had been running Serendipity VII ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107894&highlight=serendipity ) on it for almost a few months then loaned the phone to a friend when I got my S3 after about 6 months the boot loops started then after it bootlooped one last time and went black, the device wouldn't charge or do anything really. I could get it into download mode and I think recovery, I tried flashing back to stock and now it boots but after the purple/blue S screen it goes black and nothing happens except the capacitive lights turn on. I made a video showing this I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what is wrong. I think something very important got deleted. Thanks in advance!

Do you have a external sd that you could use to boot on? I'm not sure if would work but worth giving a try.

I wouldn't know how to go about even setting that up to boot from extSD. I have another "broken" captivate. One of the color correction resistors (i think) came off the board so not the screen is yellow but still manageable. Maybe I can use my reflow station and get something going by making a frankenstein phone.

Unfortunately no, you are going to have to wait for a fastboot cord. Use the kindle Fire System restore tool in the OP of the FireFlash thread and go from there. Make sure to download SDK tool kit and get fastbot/ADN going in the mean tome. If you get stuck, "reply" to me here and I'll help you. Hold the power button down on your Kindle for 25 seconds until your Kindle powers off and let it be until your cord arrives.
