[TIP] If you're getting battery drain try this - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone: Moto G2 XT1068
ROM: Stock MM (final)
Rooted
Xposed + GravityBoxMM
Like many on MM I have been getting the dreaded 'Google Play Services' service draining up to 20% of my battery. It didn't start straight away but developed over time.
After extensive log combing and forum trawling, the best I could find was to disable some of the sync services I didn't need in my Google account. This only helped a little.
I was all ready to factory reset and perhaps try a battery friendly ROM such as AOSP, when the thought occurred to me to try wiping my cache first, so I did.
It was like getting a new phone. It's now more responsive (I hadn't noticed that it was laggy until the lag was gone, so it can't have been that bad) and the mystery battery drain was gone. Yesterday I plugged it in before going to sleep with 38% remaining and more than 2 hours screen on time. Google play services wasn't even on the list of battery eaters.
This might not work for everyone, but it's an easy thing to try.
[TL;DR]
Wipe your cache in TWRP, it might make things a whole lot better.

Battery life Moto X 2014

Trying to get the most out of the battery. Tried turning as much as I could off. Any suggestions for optimal settings while not cutting all the good out. Currently running 5.1 pure. Rooted greenify everything that says running NFC off BT off location set battery saving. Google now cards off. Still getting extremely high Google services percent. Phone currently at 30%
Also under security and apps with usage access what is this MotoCarelnt.
What SOT are you getting?
OK here is today's still at 64% but barely used the phone and google services still seems high considering I've tried to basically disable everything possible. Also SOT yesterday was about 2hrs.
Sent from my XT1095 using XDA Free mobile app
Here's today's still getting high Google services
Is it just normal or what
I having the same issue. battery draining like mad since I installed 5.1 leak rom. I'm on pure version, not rooted.
Post pics of battery info is your Google services really high
Sent from my XT1095 using XDA Free mobile app
I've been having the same issue the past couple weeks. Phone seems to be staying awake (reported under Android OS). I've tried uninstalling a bunch of apps, turning off BT and location services, etc. Doesn't seem to be doing any good. I used to go to bed with about 50% battery. Now I'm lucky if I have 10% left. Maybe 2 hrs SOT with 50% brightness.
Ok I found this from another thread from another site but I think this might finally be fixed. So go settings->app->all-> then scroll down to google play services. Select uninstall updates and then clear dalvik cache and regular cache and bam! Google services no longer killing battery. Also turn off all the location reporting from Google and anything else you can find and turn off syncing that isn't needed. 2hrs sot at 69% not too bad and also turn LTE preferred to H+ still plenty fast and saves more battery.
so here's the stats after these settings
Definitely better but Google services seem to come creeping back later in the day.(which was said may happen). SOT still pretty dam good but will be interesting to see tomorrow. Obviously there's some little bug going on but I can live with it. Maybe one day someone will actually figure it out. Still an awesome phone. 5hrs SOT at 10% can't complain to much but would be nice to get through a day
I have exactly the same problem! But this didn't happen before. As you can see on my screen. Everything was OK, than I used my phone for a little while and from that point it started draining the battery like crazy. And I din't touch it most of the time! ...

Hey did you update google services after this? Or you are using old version?

New battery and phone still drains like crazy?!?

I have reached a point of frustration that I can hardly bear anymore.
If I remember correctly, it all started last year around Halloween when I first tried out NewMaclaw's CM11 port. I was dissatisfied with the unusually high battery drain and soon returned to stock where everything went back to normal for the following months. Due to my banking app requiring at least Android 4.3, I started experimenting with the available ROMs again in April. Since then my battery life has never returned to an acceptable state again. It doesn't matter what ROM I use, I would never make it through the day.
I always blamed it on the custom ROMs because after returning to stock for the first time, the battery life was decent again. Due to the suspicious behavior of my battery lately, like dropping or gaining several percent at once upon connecting or disconnecting the charger, I went back to stock for the second time the other day, to determine once and for all whether there was something faulty about the battery. And I thought I would have confirmed just that when the battery drained just as fast on stock. So naturally I ordered a brand new battery (manufacturing date May 2015), and hoped for satisfaction at last.
But this phone is just merciless and continues to punish me for reasons that completely elude me. The first day on stock after a full charge, the battery lasted for a mere 23 hours on stand by in AIRPLANE MODE!!! WiFi was enabled, but only for being able to receive text messages on surespot. No other push services were installed. After the second full charge, I flashed the latest CM11 and instantly noticed that the crazy draining hadn't changed. As a final act of despair, I did an advanced wipe to delete everything on the phone except the external SD card. Of course the effort was meaningless, I was down to 16% after only 11 hours with a screen on time of 2 1/2 hours. All I did was browsing with Firefox. No video or audio, just common websites. Today I did the same thing after yet another recharge, and lost 20% battery after 45 minutes. I always set the display brightness to minimum by the way.
So if it's not a faulty battery, then what the heck is it that prevents the battery from operating normally?!? I really tried everything in the process - flashing several different ROMs, going back to Stock, disabling the location and wake up features of Google Play Services, buying a new battery. What else can cause such ridiculous battery drain, and why did it not occur before I started flashing?
Hello, have you tried to debug which apps and kernel wakelocks eats most battery? Try to install betterbatterystats: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809. That might give you some hint what eats your battery.
Thanks for replying. I don't think it is any particular app since the drain occurs even while on TWRP and right after flashing before having installed any apps. It is also the same whether I browse the web with Firefox mobile or send and receive messages with surespot which are the apps that I primarily use most of the time. I'll give your battery stats a try anyway.

Battery life

Are you guys seeing a change in battery life on 5.1.1 as oposed to 5.0.2? I am, and I miss my old battery life. It's not bad by any means, but I do notice a difference. Right now, I am using greenify, and package disabler. Is there anything else I can do to get back to 2-3 days usage and over 10 hours sot?
Also, is there any way we can get smart Manager back?
Well I'd start from getting rid of greenify... It's useless on modern phones
Please excuse brevity and typos, written on a mobile device
I've suspected that causing an issue so I Uninstalled it. Any other manager like a smart Manager that we can use?
I get all day battery, and coming from V10
M S6 updated to 5.1.1, and I noticed that Google Play Services is draining my battery very quickly. Have you noticed anything unusual?
When there are updates in the play store, I have noticed that it causes a drain. This is Google play services

After the last update I had the same issue and still not have figured out completely. But I installed a couple apks for play store and Google services. It fixed those but still disappointing battery life.

I have Google Play Store working now! I had to contact Google, they called me within a minute and walked me through a couple steps ( beyond the ones they provide as a troubleshooter) with no luck. the last step before a factory reset was to delete my google account and reinstall it. I am happily updating apps as I am writing this!!
Something definitely happened to the battery life and it must be a google app problem. My battery was fine after the 5.1.1 update few months ago and suddenly a week ago (or two) the battery started draining fast. Also in the morning instead of the usual 3-6% drop I see at least 13% drop.
Do you know a good app which can show me why the drainage?
My friend had a similar problem on his Note 4. His battery went from 100% to 20% in one day with maybe 15min usage. He downloaded app Clean Master and cleaned the system (or what ever that app does). That solved the problem for him,at least so he said.
My battery life is back to normal, after removing my Google account and reinstalling it! I am happy again!
I haven't had a single problem after the update. I'm getting several days out of my battery - but I just use it for calls and texts. Still the best battery life of any phone I've owned...

Unusual battery drain

Hi,
I know there are many topics on the subject but I didn't find any solution to my problem.
So, since a couple weeks, about when I moved from Europe to the US, my phone drains significantly more battery than before. This has apparently nothing to do with screen brightness, wifi or cell data, since it occurs even in airplane mode during the night. I used to lose about 1-2% during a night, but now it's at least 15%.
You can find a couple screenshots from BetterBatteryStats there (sorry for broken link, it does not work otherwise): n.ethz.ch/~bauera/uploads/Screenshots/
So as I noticed, there are a couple wakelocks but nothing that could explain this large drain. Any idea what could be the reason and how to fix it?
FYI I am using the stock rom 23.4.A.1.232 with Android 5.1.1. Phone model is D5803. The OS was rooted directly when I got the phone in October 2015 and as I said, I did not have any battery problems until recently.
Thanks for your help!
Alex
that's the lollipop battery drain bug on mobile radio, marshmallow should have fix this
Thank you for your reply. However are you sure of that? The bug you are mentioning is apparently linked with mobile data, which I haven't even turned on since a couple reboots at least. Moreover, the battery stats for the night (from the built-in battery menu) show that the mobile network was fully off during that time (airplane mode).

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately it didn't work in my case, I still lose about 2%/h in airplane mode and screen off.

BBS - Better Battery Stats is your freind. There's also lots of tips in the thread on how to limit most of the common wakelocks.
There are several services in the new Play Services that are keeping your phone awake. With the introduction of wearable bluetooth there are new fitness services that are looking for your wearable devices constantly, disable them and your battery gets better. Obviously if you use fitness bands/trackers then this fix is not for you.
If you have a rooted phone download Disableservice from the playstore, it's a lot easier to use than Xprivacy and you don't need to install Xposed.
Once it's installed, open the system tab, open Google Play Services, then untick (disable) the following:
ConfigFetchService
FitnessSyncAdapterService
GoogleLocationManagerService
GoogleLocationService
NetworkLocationService
ProximitySettingInjectorService
UserPresenceService
WearableControlService
WearableService
WearableSyncService
then reboot your phone.
Disabling these from running should have no impact on your phone, it doesn't for me, and will give you 10-15% more battery life.

Solved Battery drain for Me
I was also suffering from the same battery drain issue, but after doing a lot of research on this forum, few tricks mentioned here worked for me.
It had been 6 days I bought the phone, so was very disappointed by battery life, did upgrade from PC to Lollipop, but still the problem persisted and even worse. So I decided to go back to Kitkat and followed steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-c...d5833-t2906706
After downgrade the battery got somewhat better not satisfactory, so I followed the trick of complete drain upto 0% and charge to 100% (switchded off) after reading posts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-c...5#post59797105 by Sydr08 #182
and cache clearing trick after 0% to 100% charge http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-c...harge-t3207737
After doing 100% charge I turned ON with vol+ pressed but phone did not respond (I guessed that it didn't worked, so switched ON normally) but after booting I found few settings to be reset so I guess it worked
So finally this trick seems to work for me, now the drain has slowed down to a lot extent. I have used phone regularly (calls, games, whatsapp, Music etc), the battery has dropped to 76% in around 8 hrs ( without stamina mode ) just expecting it to last for two days, and more than that with satmina mode.
Firmware: .77 (India)
Model: D5833
Hi Aakm,
As you said, the tricks mentioned so far on this thread were not really effective, at least for me as well. I could live with that 25-30% left at the end of the day (it is still much better than my old Samsung GS2), but I would be glad to be back to the 2-3 days of moderate use as I had during my first months of ownership.
So I'll try this out over the next days and hopefully it will work, thanks for suggesting! It sounds a bit like magic to me but let's give it a try
Best regards,
Alex
Unfortunately the full drain+charge did not change anything for me. I did not try to downgrade to Kitkat but as I've had good battery on Lollipop for several months, I doubt it would help.
Anyway thanks for your help, but I guess I'll simply wait until Android M comes out and take the opportunity for a full factory reset, hoping it will solve the issue.
Please guys mark the star on the bug report, the more people agree, higher will be the chance that google decide that it's time to fix it

Faster battery drain after OTA update to 9.1.0.252 on Huawei P10 VTRL-L29

After updating to 9.1.0.252 I noticed faster battery drain. Did any of you experience the same behavior? I'm thinking to go back to 9.0.1.
Thanks
I feel the same

I noticed faster battery drain on my ltr-09 as well. All is fine now. I noticed when i first upgraded location was turning on alot almost like it was learning when to turn on. Then it levelled out. Example opening google now at first it always turned on my gps now it doesnt. When i was on 9.01 i left my phone on battery saving for gps. You cant on 9.1 and i have seen alot of apps that used to be good with battery saving location now going for full with gps. Big bttery drain. Those were the differences i found. What I believe solved my battery drain was actually my battery getting all screwed up. I had this happen when i would switch roms and my battery stats would get all messed up. I solved it before and solved it this time with my p10 by running the thing right dead. Then pluging it in overnight with it turned off (no fast charging) Then I did it again the next night drained to dead , plug in charge with off ( no supercharging) and my battery life is better again. Hope this helps. EDIT After a few days of testing i still felt the battery was better but battery life still wasnt right. I did a factory installed minimal apps. Battery life was good until play store updated carrier services. I uninstalled updates to carrier services, disabled auto update. Then i actually disabled carrier services completely. Battery seems good now. From what i read carrier services is for next gen texting. Saw online others were having issues with this update.

Wrong, batteries get older with time and charging cycles. Updates have nothing to do with it and if you notice a drain right after one - it has nothing to do with the condition of the battery, it's the update's fault.
updates are huawei's way to convince you to buy a new phone
first they borked the camera, now they are messing with battery
I managed to improve battery life a little bit by disabling apps running in background and disabling unnecessary location permissions for several apps like @bigshowjh said. Like @bigshowjh said I found apps resetting their permission or settings after update. Still the battery life is not like it was before updating with the same usage behavior.

I have ran a couple of days with very good battery life. 11.5 hrs with 62 percent left. Seems like it used to be with Oreo. Overview of all I did was as follows. Clear cache partition, factory reset . Uninstalled Google Chrome (used Firefox instead) set carrier service to factory in apps three dots advanced. Disabled automatic update of carrier services in play store, then in settings apps disabled carrier services completely. Went through and disabled network access to every app that doesn't need it. I don't use Facebook or Facebook Messenger apps. I use them through my browser. Oddly chome on pie is a battery killer as well. I'm very satisfied with proformance of my P10 again.
My GPS is pretty much always off (unless I really need it) and the battery level still goes down by 9% during the night. It used to be 3-4%.
I cannot find carrier service anywhere.
In my case I can't see power hungry apps in the stats, standby process uses the most energy.
