so I recently dug my s4A i537
out of a box, I looked around a bit but found no relevant information
am I right to assume that this variant of the s4 still has an unlockable Bootloader / no custom recovery / limited roms correct?

Correct, the bootloader is still locked. However, within the last couple weeks a Super WizCyan Rom was made specifically for the i537. You should be able to find it in the Dev section. There's one other Rom for the i537, but the name escapes me at the moment. Even the i9295 is hurting for development as @spegelius has had to stop development. Hopefully somebody else can pick up where he left off, otherwise I fear I may have to start looking for a new phone.
The other ROM is called sick ROM, in the development section.
Excuse me sick as hell ROM

Sick as hell Rom by Rick1684. Been running it as daily driver for months.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using XDA Labs
well, I was gonna say it wasn't working
but, sick rom is booting now lol
I wish someone could make an odin of the oc7 w/ root, that would make it sooooo much faster
there is a way, somehow, ive odin'd custom roms into Samsung phones before....just got throw it together right....hmm..

I'll try, probably needs to be done with Cygwin, I can't promise anything though. I assume I'll do it with the stock, deodexed, rooted version of OC7, unless anyone has any objections?
Update: I'm going to need a cache.img.ext4 somehow. I think I can pull it with adb, but again, I can't promise for sure. Also I'll probably have to do this much later. That said, it looks promising. Also if anyone is reading this and knows how, can you pull the pit file too? I'm thinking about making two versions, a no-wipe pre-rooted deodexed firmware, and maybe also one that will wipe (in case you mess up doing something). I'm pretty sure the wipe one will require a pit file, and I don't know if that one can be pre-rooted

I think I asked my question wrong on the first post.
Shortly I will have a factory fresh VZW tab. Given that from the posts a number of people are looking for pit files etc ... what tool can I use to extract the files for the VZW tab users ....
Any pointers or threads that I missed? Just hoping to help where I can because I won't leave it stock long LOL.
Thanks,
Tony
You can use roto backup to dump your firmware to odin flashable files. Look it up in the development section.
Thanks, just wanted to make sure I used the best method to grab the files. I will do some reading and make a good backup and share what I am able to pull off for the other VZW Taber's
Just a quick update .... I have the fresh Tab ... so I am going to follow Roto Hammers process for pulling the files and will try to get a heimdall and Odin fresh rom set for VZW Taber's ..... I will also see about hosting the files on my server so that they are available and will see if anyone else wants them as well.
If anyone needs something off a fresh tab ... please post or PM me and I will do what I can.... I'll leave it alone until Tuesday 8/2/11
Thanks again for the pointer!

You do know that the stock sprint roms work too.. to at least get you back up and running (3g doesn't work, but everything else is reported working fine)
Always good to have complete stock to fall back on though.
I heard that the 2.3 sprint firmware works on verizon tab. But i've tried the rooted version of it, which i found here in the forum, but still couldn't boot into the OS, it hangs on galaxy tab screen. Since you mentioned this, can i use the sprint pit file too?
Also, i forgot to mention, my tablet is cdma. Don't know if it makes any difference for using sprint firmware version
It's driving me nuts, and I would like someone to help me understand. I came here with a bricked and completely unrepairable phone, and I have since managed to get a new Note. The completely stubborn side of me went right away flashing ICS ROMS...Okay, that's all good and well...No harm done anyway. But why don't developers include the "base" and root kernel files in their frickin' ROMS?! It's incredibly annoying. Why do I have to go into "ODIN" and download mode to flash some repack, wipe wipe wipe, reboot, flash another base, wipe wipe wipe, reboot, and finally flash a "custom" ROM. I should be able to flash a single .zip file through CWM and be down with it. I'm not bad talking at all, and I greatly appreciate what developers do around here.
For example, MIDNOTE includes ICS kernel and base...one integrated file. EVERYTHING works, and I have full root access. I'm wondering what it will be like when Samsung comes out with an official ICS version, will I have to flash ten different files to use a custom ROM or will developers be able to integrate it into their work? Just a question...not meant to cause trouble in the least...it just erks me the wrong way. And I'm sure others are wondering the same too.
They does it because you dont need to get those annoying yellow triangle and increase those custom binary counters....Would you like having triangles and increase counters? And the ICS roms are too early releases and are still in beta stages. So you need to go with the process.GB roms dont have these problems and are less hectic.Thats why I still stay in GB.Custom ICS roms will be ok when Official ICS is released.

I'm serious guys! This is the only device I've ever owned where I have to flash a million different files just to get my phone booting...so I'm just trying to understand what's up. And obviously I LOVE the Note or else I wouldn't have bought two.
Developers do this for free...okay, yeah...but they don't have to do it half-assed? If I was going to sell you a car, I'd probably give it to you one piece. I wouldn't make you take all the parts and put them together yourself only in the end to find out that you're missing the engine and have to start all over again. And honestly, that's how I feel around here sometimes.
And the comment about Windows is out of line. I don't use Windows...why does everyone assume Windows? Honestly don't know why more don't use Linux around here. Windows just plan ol' sucks.
Edit: Custom ROMS aren't build from "scratch" by the way...and not everyone around here who posts a ROM is a "developer."
This issue is not because of lazy developers. It is because Samsung is tired of replacing devices under warranty when the terms of said warranty have been broken, and as a result putting extra security measures in place.
Lazy developers would let you get the yellow triangle, and then let you foot the bill for your mistakes while flashing.

Huh? I'm talking about doing everything from CWM...not from ODIN. So no yellow triangle...and as far as I know, every custom ROM around here is a CWM flashable .zip file...minus the oh so coveted ICS repack...which needs ODIN for some unknown reason to me. So now, I'm not calling myself lazy, or the developers around here for that matter. There's a good reason, I know it...I want to find out. Samsung is a different beast for sure, and this is the first Samsung device I've owned, and I'm trying to avoid bricking again, so I'd like to learn all the procedures and such...and why they're necessary. It's for my piece of mind really.

You just answered your own question. The process is long and somewhat complicated because it HAS to be done via recovery. If it were done via download mode in ODIN, it would be much simpler; but it would trip the counter. Using recovery instead of download mode sidesteps this problem, but it introduces others. That is why flashing to/from ICS/GB via recovery is so complicated.

I appreciate you bleeding edge types, but this is why I wait a few weeks AFTER an official rom is released, before I even consider a custom rom.
ICS is still an infant...I'd rather have one that was at least able to drive a car before I install it.

Lol....Ok.understood it now.Now generally as said in above post, lazy developers would let you get triangles and increase custom binaries. So they need to make multiple files which makes your phone ready for flashing your favorite firmware. If you probably own a galaxy s series you would know how easy it was to flash firmwares.Thats because sammy did not implement any security measures which Gnote has.Hope you understand

It's because of the kernel and root. Unlike GB kernels, this one seems to be a bit wonky, and your root permissions get lost easily in CWMR flashing or Nand restoring. Hence the convoluted flashing procedures. Lack of code sources, I suppose.
All of us have to accept this if we want a taste of Roms based on the Chinese leak. No-one is happy with the current state of the affairs, but we manage.
Nobody is forcing you to deal with it. If you can't, stick with GB Roms until the final version of ICS drops.
I have flashed several ICS Roms and only flashed the chainfire repack the very first time when I moved to ICS from gingerbread. I have flashed Criskelo, rocket and midnote just from CWM. Never had a triangle, SOD etc...just full wipe before I flashed and then cleared caches after.
Well that time has come again. Moving from my S4 to an S6 which comes in on Thurs. So I am trying to read up now on it. Get this rooted.. and HOPE TO GOD.. this isnt like the ATT S4.. where I couldnt even change the recovery out.. or kernel.. So I am hoping T-Mobile still allows for the fun stuff without any safestrap.
Also.. that being said... T-Mobile appears to have made an odd mistake.. For upgrades (or even new lines). Right now, when I looked.. Galaxy S6 64GB is 0 down, 24$ a month, or 580$ retail.. However.. right next to it.. the 128GB is the same exact cost... Whats more sad is. The 32GB Galaxy 6 Edge.. costs more. Same specs as everyone knows.. So just in case people wanna jump on it.
Anyways I am looking to get some insight on where I will start reading on the guides, or what I can and cannot do out of the box. (In case "x" version I cant do anything with atm) Need to root as well. So a "starting place" is what I need to start my journey and research.
Now for Roms. Thats always the catch.. so many out there and knowing what does what or who is stable and great. Main thing I always look for in a rom is cifs.ko support so I can mount external nas drives to my phone directly and access. Stock kernels dont usually let me. Unless the S6 is different?
Anyways thanks for any starter places and advice for me on where to start looking for when I get it thurs. (The 128GB!!!!)
Edit: Just got my S6 in early, Its 5.0.2
You can change recovery, flash Roms, kernels, root and all that fun stuff. You just can't downgrade firmwares. Also of course it will trip knox and you won't be able to use samsung pay. But it's no mistake the 64gb and 128gb are the same price, don't know why but T-Mobile has been pricing them the same for a while now

Wow really? Thats still so odd.. and the fact that the edge still costs more for less storage... Yes it sucks about no microsd.. but My 16GB S4 + 64GB Micro.. sucked worse since everytime an app updated... it would take it off sd data.. and move it right back to internal.
Good to know that I can fully mod this one again! Not being able to use Samsung pay... yea.. that could really suck.. (Read: How many of us actually use it since Google wallet wasnt really major... bleh..)
So out of the box, any issues I should know about when trying to least get the recovery rom up there? I figure before I play with stock and root.. I should LEAST install the recovery part of it making my life easier for the future.
In developer options, turn on OEM Unlocking, you should have no issues after that. For root you need a custom kernel, recovery you just flash with Odin

Well somewhat. Before you didn't have to do anything, but at least the option is there. Doesn't have to be the newest, but has to be based off of at least 5.1. Don't know which ones support cifs. Sorry

Hrm ok. So still more studying to do. So I have to get a 5.1 kernel you said? I thought Android had a higher version out already?
Also anyone here have a rom they have been enjoying for gaming, networking, and still of course have wifi calling? Oh yes... the other thing I forgot I really would like... Wifi tethering where I once again can change the mac id.. so I can trick my 3ds into thinking I am the Nintendo zone stuff...
Edit: ACK! My phone came today! 1 day early.. didnt expect it till tm.. since I ordered it last night.. Damnit. now I gotta read up more today and apply.
Ok, So with my device being 5.0.2. I am reading up on pingpong, but doesnt list my 5.0.2 S6 build on it?
Then looking at various things about rooting it while keeping knox? Or others saying that messes up other things.. Then I still dont know if that knox protection is just for root + stock... but that it would still trip moment you flash to another rom?
Which case makes me wonder.. should I just odin flash to 5.1.1 with the firmware files found that have root already in it? Or stay on 5.0.2? Kinda confused atm my starting point.
Alright so you have a couple of choices. First off, do you care if your knox gets tripped or not?

Hi Serio. 1st off last night did some studying. I would "Prefer" least for my 1st year.. not to trip Knox.
I was given a 920F Engineering BL to flash with ODIN, However it keeps failing, so I dont know if I need a 920T Eng BL? (If I do.. someone please PM me with it...?)
Been posting on this rom which looked great.

However then I noticed.. its not on the T-Mobile forum.. sigh.. So I dont know if it has Wifi calling on it. Or if I can 100% use this. I assume I can tho.
In the end result.. if I cant get eng bl.. Ill say hell with it. Flash to 5.1.1 bl/modem, trip knox, get my rom going and still have fingerprint. Atm.. I wasnt minding the lack of fingerprint reader if it meant holding warrenty some.
Yeah you need 920T engineering bootloader. The rom you posted does not have WiFi calling, you need to find one in the T-Mobile section for that.

If you don't want to trip Knox and still keep all other functions intact, you could technically stay on 5.0.2. Then, you can root with PingPongRoot and flash a ROM using FlashFire.

Yes, but if you try this you need to make sure you only flash 5.0.2 roms and remove boot.img from the zips before flashing or you will trip knox. The advantage with the Eng BL and 5.0.2 roms is that you can have custom kernels as well and retain fingerprint functionality and keep knox intact. You can flash 5.1.1 roms with eng bl but you will lose fingerprint function

Well I got the 920T Eng BL, which flashed ok. I flashed TWRP.. However having issues getting into recovery mode now to GO to the next step. I plan to use xtrestolite from the 920F forum. Which seems more updated then the 920T version of it. Should be ok I hope. Also That 5.1.1 rom supports 5.0.2 Eng BL. Of course, no fingerprint.
But yea, just trying to get into the recovery now.

No, I believe flashing a kernel does that.
Also In the end, I screwed the rules. Blew knox to hell. Went with 5.1.1 Xenolite from the 920F forums which is more up to date. I dont have wifi calling tho sadly cause of this choice. But least phone is working fine.

Hello Everyone!
Quick (stupid) question. How would one root the Samsung Galaxy S6 (Flat, T-Mobile Variant) running Android 6.0.1 (Stock)? Last night (As of this post) I've tried installing TWRP but ended in a bootloop at the Samsung logo, and (Thankfully) Smart Switch saved my ass. At this point, tripping KNOX isn't of my concern, as my phone's warranty has expired. Attached is my phone's Model, Build, etc.
Any help is appreciated.

Looking through all the builds, I don't see my build number. The closest one to mine (which is MMB29K.G920TUVU4EPF1), is MMB29K.G920TUVU3EPD1. Now, I would use this, but I don't want a 600$ brick, so unless it's compatible with my build, I'm gonna have to wait.

Ah, yeah, looks like you're running the latest update and it seems to early to tell if CF-Auto-Root will even work on it (I don't think anyone has tried yet).
Anyways, here's all the information you'll need: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67623487&postcount=7
Rest assured that you can't brick anything as long as you have access to download mode to reflash stock firmware.

Thanks for the reply. Hmm...last time I flashed TWRP on my phone, It got stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy" logo, stayed there no matter what, thankfully I was able to use "Emergency Firmware Reset." I've been snooping around forms, and some people state to, "UNCHECK AUTO REBOOT, when finished installing, reboot manually." Of course, I'm hesitant to try that, after all Smart Switch only backs up photos, videos, apps, etc, but not the actual Android operating system.
I'm gonna do a back up of what I can and try EncryptedCurse's suggestion. Wish me luck!

From what I've tried, no. I had a feeling this would happen as soon as I upgraded.

Hi Everyone, If this is the wrong place to post this plz MODERATORS move it to correct place..
Ok so we all know what safestrap is, and that it's not TWRP really...
We also know that the bootloader on the SM-N900A isn't unlockable...
So I usually develop stuff for LG devices, but I got hands on an old Note 3 from At&t and want to
find a way to get past the limitations of Safestrap and the roms are all mostly lollipop K.K or J.B based.
without the bootloader unlocked we can't change the kernel away from stock...
Well I've been reading some things in reddit about S8 and S8+ etc.
and supposedly they have patched Odin not to check model numbers etc.
same with S9 see here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/how-to-flash-u1-firmware-to-device-t3765200
and so what I'm thinking is...
The modded/patched Odin has the model-ID and SHA hash check disabled, therefore allowing you to flash an unbranded "U1" firmware onto a branded "U" phone and vice versa.
As of now this works on most US Qualcom (QC) models, but an increasing number of international Exynos (EX) models now include a new RMM security which prevents this kind of cross-flashing unless you first disable the RMM, by flashing an RMM-Disabler package through TWRP.

if we use this method to flash the tmobile branded firmware for the note 3 will we then be able to simply boot to TWRP This device has no fastboot...
If this seems like a really bad stupid Idea please say so and explain exactly why.
If this seems like it might work please explain how and why.
If you have tried this please let me know what the outcome was.
Thanks for reading
just looking for more input before I FRY a thousand dollar phone
old as it is it's still nice.

you may be correct, but I just wanted experienced dev's to talk to about this and If I post on at&t specific threads, I'll likely have to tell a bunch of noobs that NO i haven't tried it yet { about to } and that no this isn't yet a bootloader unlock.
I wanted to discuss this with seasoned Devs such as @jcase
Any thoughts?
anyone?
Have a look almost nil Dev action on this section since day one .

Well It's turned to a dead end, and I no longer believe it possible.
I can confirm flashing the modem.bin to modem partition resulted in soft-brick
so i'm scared to try flashing the boot aboot sbl etc.
I'm now looking for a way to possibly boot a modified second
boot.img through a boot hijack, to enable me to use something like EFIdroid to boot custom roms...
