Hello guys
I need you help to decide either to stay to my stock gingerbread rom or root my phone and install cyanogenmod 9 on my Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
Please tell me which one is more stable and better to use..
Thanks in advance
Should just go with Cyanogenmod 10 Nightly. I use my phone every day and get no random reboots, stability issues or incompatible features/apps. Everything seems to work great. I can't see much of a reason to use CM9 since CM10 works so well
I moved to CM10 from XXJW4 2.6.4 and have no plans on rolling back.

Go with CM10! very recommended!
if you want, here there is a tutorial that shows you how to ROOT
your Galaxy s1 stock ROM 2.3.4

I've been using CM9RC2 for a few months now and it's good. I find it a lot more stable and a lot faster than stock. However, I find I miss a lot of the small things about the stock ROM that just aren't in CM. The Contacts app is poor (can't link contacts, no Facebook integration) as is the stock Calender and the default music player that comes with it is atrocious.
If you can live with those, or are willing to pay for some appropriate replacement apps then I can definitely recommend going with CM
I'm always on gb, lately JW7 gb rom, ext4 format, Semaphore 2. 7.4. Reliable and fast.
Since a week I turned on a CM10. I like a lot, it's stable but very battery drainy and no faster than my previus gb JW7.
I think GB is still the best for our poor i9000...

I switched from Samsung GB to CM9 when it became stable mi-August (now I'm on CM9.1).
I don't plan to switch to CM10 until it is stable (or at least in RC stage) => and I hope it will become stable before 4.2 goes open source and pawitp starts working on next CM!
For me, my phone is much better with CM9: less reboots (I only had one in two months instead of one per week with GB).
My phone is generally more enjoyable: it is difficult to point specific functionnalities (there are many), but the user experience has been a big focus for Google in ICS, and the result is really great for me. I like stock applications a lot (even though contact app may indeed have less functionnalities than Touchwiz one). One the other side, I could not say if the phone is faster or not: so it your main concern is speed, the switch won't change much (unless you go with CM10 which is supposed to be faster). Main drawback for me is that MMS don't work anymore, but I guess it's a problem very specific to my case as I didn't find other people having my problem (and as I didn't use MMS a lot, I didn't take time to investigate heavily the issue).

Can any one help me out ... I m very much tensed Please please help me....:crying:
Just pull out the battery and then insert it after couple of minutes. Then power on while pressing 3 button combo and go to the download mode. Start Odin 1.7 in your PC and try to flash any stock gb rom.

You need to use Odin to get gingerbread bootloader before you can flash custom gb roms

Lucainno's I9000 MIUI 3.1.11 Port
ROM DETAILS
Android JB 4.1.2
Miui 3.1.11
Semaphore 2.6.5v kernel
4 way reboot
Seeder 1.4 Preinstalled
My GPS fix installed
Install Notes:
From cwm-
Facotry reset
Format /system
Install from sdcard
<Google Apps not required>

Profit
NOTES:
Ive only ran this ROM for about a day so Ill list it as "beta" for now. Themes worked for me but I had to create an Xiaomi account.
MIUI 3.1.11 is Android 4.1.2 (NOT 4.2.*) So keep this in mind for kernels and such!
I had somewhat of a higher than normal battery drain the first night. Frankly Im not sure if it was the ROM or one of my apps going nuts. I could use some feedback on how the battery drain is from others. This is my first JB port so be gentle (lol). I used CM10 as a base and used Lucainno's MIUI ROM to adapt (or Miui'fy) it. Dont forget to click on the links below in my thanks section and hit the "thanks" for each. Hit them up for a donation if you can.
Mobile data automatically turns off on each boot. You must renable it each time.
Easiest way for me to get the camera to work was to install the CM10 Gallery app. Thats why you have 2 "gallery" apps listed.
Does 911 work?
Answer - I dont know. Its untested. I have the correct T959 RIL and GPS files installed. I checked the framework.jar and it seemed to be in order.
Does GPS work?
Works for me....kinda I will admit the locks were a lot slower than usual. My GPS "fixes" from another thread do not match 2 of the CM10 files. CM10 and CM10.1 differ by 2 gps in /system/lib/hw from what I can tell. It may work though.
Now Im not a developer, but I will still try to bugfix whatever I can.

(You should be able to just flash it without wipe for upgrade)
Thanks man, When I have time this week, I'll be sure to flash and let you know how it goes.
Thanks man - I was going to play with this for a bit. For me the GPS just isn't working as well as Id like it too. Just not sure if its me.
Two of the .so files are different from CM10 to CM10.1 so Ill try to switch between the two. (/system/lib/hw/gps.aries.so & gps.goldfish.so)
Its a nice project to work on for the next few weeks.
Got too eager, and flashed it
Some things:
-Boot animation is TERRIBLE, sorry just had to get that out, I'm prob gonna just end up flashing a Nexus bootanimaion, they look cool
-Default language is DUTCH, and there's a popup right before selecting the default language, so I have NO IDEA what i agreed/disagreed to
So far, so good.
I can't really test GPS, almost got into a car accident once because of the faulty GPS on this, since then... no more taking chances, bought a nice GPS, runs great.
I'll give you more bugs/compliments after tomorrow.
Thanks for this btw, needed my monthly MIUI dosage.
That is odd - the build.prop is set to US and when I loaded it up it was in English. Ill look into it though.
Edit: Found it -
ro.product.locale.language=en (was set to "zh")
LOL - ok - ok Ill look into changing the bootanimation
Version 1.1 posted - should be a no-wipe version for those who already installed it.
NICE....
viber
unfortunately,viber has stopped
no work
Anyone have a multi-dpi playstore for this?
Changed my dpi to 201, playstore stopped showing most apps, flashed this and did not work.
For those who have time and can beta test for me:
MIUI 3.1.25
You need to flash the gapps (4.1 version) because I removed it from the ROM.
Feedback / bugs appreciated
I tried some GPS tweaks in some .jar files - Im not sure if it did anything though.
Downloading, gonna try it this week and I'll be back with my comments, really thankful with your hard work.
Best regards.

This ROM is my new daily driver on my work phone.
Its very fast and stable.
No real issues yet.
It rebooted once by itself when plugged into my computer at work but it hasn't happened again so the incident may be isolated.
Thanks for an awesome ROM.
I'm pretty likely to stick with this one for quite a while.

What one are you referring to? The 3.1.11 version in the OP or the .25 version I posted in the thread to test?
The op version, I just swapped over from another ROM and wasn't aware of the new version. but I'd be happy to give the test version a shot.
I'll run it for a few days and report back.

Sorry I realize its been way more than a few days.
I hot caught up on a work project that has been eating my life.
Anyways here is what I have to Freeport (hopefully its of some use to you this far out)
Pros:
1. Very fast and smooth, compared to what I was on prior (hellybean) this Rom is a huge jump up in speed.
2. Battery actually lasts all day for me. This is my work phone so that's not bad at all.
3. Bluetooth tethering works really well.
4. All around this is the best Rom I've been on in quite some time.
Cons:
1. Random reboots, though it never happens when I'm doing anything, only when the phone is sitting there on the home screen. So it really hasn't actually bothered me even though it would normally be a huge issue.
2. (I think this is actually a miui feature so it may not be worth worrying about) the data automatically turns off when you reboot. This wouldn't be an issue except for the random reboots mentioned above. Sometimes this happens in my pocket and I don't notice my data is off until I look at it again.
Hi guys,
I'm on CM10.1 stable and I'd like to switch to a custom Kernel for better performace (mainly smoothness and battery life).
I'd like to know which are your favourites and why (3 reasons). Could be a good help to other novices also.
Thanky you!!!

I recently updated to CM 10.1 Stable from 10.0 Stable.
While I was on CM 10.0 I used Semaphore Kernel and had 1) excellent luck and 2) support. Just go to Semaphore's thread and see 3) the praise and 4) respect stratosk (the developer) has earned! Semaphore would be my first non-stock Kernel choice without hesitation.
You asked for 3 reasons and got 4 reasons.
Enjoy!
As I recall, Semaphore supports only Samsung GT-I9000 and Nexus 4.
my fav would be stock
but i ll use semaphore sometimes even in GB, cyancore (if i feel to make my fone a psp ) fishear for testing cm10 ROM, n mackay for twrp (making my friend jealous of touch recovery)
but mostly semaphore

Try semaphore, been using it for a year (and updating of course) and never had a problem with it.
I have used Semaphore for 3 years and i will use it until my phone breaks. :silly:
The last times the best for me is mackay
Latrop is also a really stable kernel

Random reboots
After about four days of CM 10.1.1 stable I must say that it's very smooth and has good battery (about same as cm 10.0 stable with semaphore 2.6.5 or (even better) Slim Bean 4.2.1 stable in my case). Battery time with CM 10.0 stable and it's own Cyanocore kernel was terrible.
However 1) I have had about two random hard reboots a day while phone was in sleep mode. After full wipe, wipe cache and dalvik it still occurs.
And 2) soft reboots when connecting to PC via USB or updates of apps on internal sd storage. This problem also occured while using Slim Bean 4.2.1 stable. (This problem was never with CM 10.0 stable) It kept coming back after several complete factory wipe and wipes of cache and dalvik.
Can that soft reboot problem be a general Android 4.2x problem with apps moved to SD?
After clean flash and/or full wipe, wipe cache and dalvik I use Titanium to restore to restore all my apps and appdata (only non system relaterd resores). Can the problem be related to Titanium app-restores?
Directly after a random hard reboot I copied as read in some topic last_kmsg and logcat. But what to look for in those files (with a lot of text) after opening them with wordpad?

Semaphore is the stock CM kernel on steroids. It lets you use the standard processor governors and voltages and so on but allows other things such as touchwake, a bit better vibration control, deep idle and many other features- I can't remember most of them off the top of my head

No more random reboots
After reflashing CM 10.1.2 (and off course factory reset, clear cache and clear dalvik) I now don't have random reboots anymore.
The difference with last time when I was having random reboots: this time I did not restore apps with data using Titanium Backup. I reïnstalled all the apps via Play Store. Meanwhile I read also in the thread of this rom that Titanium restores causes random reboots and soft reboots off updating/removing apps located on internal sd storage.
Although my i9000 now have been working flawless about the last 5 days, not being able to restore apps and data with Titanium is a real let down. Changing rom and installing apps and setting them up is a real annoying time consuming job. I will now be thinking twice before changing and testing other custo firmware. Hopefully Titanium comes with a solution.
---------- Post added at 03:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:42 PM ----------
The CM 10.1.2 stable rom is working very well now. The original CM-kernel seems much better than the one that came with CM 10.0 stable concerning smoothness, batterytime and stability. CM 10.0 (different flashes and factory resets) had much lag but also bootloops out of the blue sometimes. That led to trying Semaphore-kernel which in my case performed very much better and more stable than the CM 10.0 kernel itself.
That's why I'm very curious how latest Semaphore-kernels perform with CM 10.1.x stable. Has anyone tried that yet?
But the best performing rom I've ever had on my i9000 came after that and was Slim Bean 4.2.1 stable (which includes Semaphore as standard kernel). When the stable version comes of Android 4.2.2 there is a 90 percent change I will reflash Slim Bean. Slim Bean was like CM on steroids and also better batterytime in my case.
Hopefully there is then a solution for the current Titanium errors. Otherwise again reinstalling all apps and setting them up. Or try MyBackup Root in stead of Titanium.
I have already put money a side for the new Nexus 7 and my i9000 is still a great phone which does not need replacement. With the earlier mentioned Slim Bean rom my i9000 even performed better than my brothers laggy Galaxy S3 with stock rom. But everybody knows how terrible for performance Thouchwiz is.

but i have a great drop in battery. when i checked the stats it was a kernel wakelock names "bluesleep" which is preventing the device from sleep. i had found fix for this in forum but not a fix for ace so people please gimme a link for fix
2. Wifi problem was ter since i was in stock ROM, wifi gets connected but no internet. but when i tether from my iPhone wifi is working. in other places its not working.

For the bluesleep process that pervent your device to enter sleep mode you should take a look if it's a bug of the rom and if it's reported from other users. I think that the Wi-Fi is maybe a problem due to a not perfect flash of the rom. In anyway wipe everything, format system and sd card, than reflash the rom, you migh be good to go.
P.S. Try to freez bluesleep with greenfy and see what appen. This could be call a temporary fix if you don't care that much about Wi-Fi.
Good luck and have a great life

The rom you may looking for is a slimmed rom based on stock 2.3.6 rom by Samsung with Battery Extender kernel. The fastest and less battery-eater rom is the AOSP GB but has no working 3G connection so that's why you may not like it. Custom ROM suffers some instability some times and they're not perfect so that's why you should use on a phone you use for your job a stock based rom, in my opinion.
P.S. Do you really need a MIUI rom updated to a newer version of Android?
Also i have one more doubt. when i moved to custom kernel the boot logo animates like my phone gonna die i9s that normal or due to some voltage fluctuations ??

No problems at all, it's "normal" (i know sounds weird XD) when you flash a kernel that do not came with the rom itself. I've never faced instability related to voltages even in overclock. Remember that not every CPU is capable of the same overclock. If you doubt about stability do a stress test of cpu trough an app (I use it to test oveclock frequecies).
SHORT VERSION: is there any stable rom for the i9305 that can also run banking apps that look at if your rooted? Or just a stable rom for i9305!? Or even a stock rom that has no bloat-ware (for i9305 of course and in uk)?
LONG:
So I started out a journey looking for a good stable rom and of course cyanogen caught my eye but I unfortunately swapped to a 4g service and swapped my phone right before embarking on this journey to a i9305 - crap!
I thought wow great 4g and 2gig ram it'll be perfect with cyanogen 11 so I waited and no M build for i9305 all year long argh! So I gave up and tried a nightly cyanogen 11 and it was buggy as hell. So gave up on that after a few weeks and trying different updates moved to carbon - again only nightly available even more bugs maybe I was just unlucky in timing but on to cyanogen 10.1 I was going backwards now not the most fun but it still has a few bugs but is way more stable and I loved the speed and camera was great but still it feels a bit old and I still prefer stock . So I am thinking now I either give up n get stock or go on to yet another one but im not confident now ...thanks!
i also like stock ROM...until now didn't found one which will have wi-fi working with stock kernel...so i will give it a try to rXTREME.JB.4.3-V5.1.1 with a custom kernel and see how it works...

Hmm yes too many bugs in all the custom roms on this device wish I could try a cyanogen M build ...
if you want to install rXTREME you MUST make a full wipe....in instruction it says it is recommended....but in reality is a MUST...all kind of bugs...and freezes...just opened screen and tried to unlock it...light effect...instant freeze...had to reboot...
i also wanted a stable CM11....not with huge battery drain...and other force closes....
hi men ,
i used the slimKat rom on my gti9305 and it's the perfection for that
Try Pacman RC1 everything is working very very less Force closes though but I have flashed paranoid ROM gapps and Google play app is not connecting :/
Very less it works
Sent from my GT-I9305 using XDA Free mobile app
I flashed this recently. Its working PERFECT :good: :good:
(bloatware can be turned off)
performance improved, minimum ram usage, longer battery life (comparing to 4.3 stock rom)
NO PROBLEMS
