Previously, I installed Cyanogenmod (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=RC&device=mb886), and still had root access, but there was an issue with the baseband.
So I just installed HoloBlur (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356624), fixed the baseband (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233871) and now it seems that I do not have full root access and Superuser binaries will not update.
First, I downloaded the superuser binaries and zip files to try and update them that way (http://androidsu.com/superuser/)
But that didn't work so I downloaded and used this (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su.fixer&hl=en), which crashed after trying to gain root access. No superuser options show up in settings, and Superuser wants to crash. I have tried superuser from Chainfire and Koush. Neither can update binaries, and the version by Koush wants to crash. I assumed I didn't have root access.
I have tried using motochopper again (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227938)
and I have tried using Myth Tools again (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2262726) (basically another motochopper...)
Neither have worked.
So:
How do I gain root access again if none of the above methods work? Is it possible?
Yes, bootloader is still unlocked, and CWM is still installed. Just, no root access.
Flashing superuser.zip should work. That is what I did when I installed holoblur. I would need to find the link though
Sent from my Atrix HD using Tapatalk 4
That fixed it. Sorta.
Went back into CWM recovery, selected to install from zip, and installed the zip from here: http://androidsu.com/superuser/
This was the one that worked:
(3.2-RC3)
md5: 6462ac14cd38ed7c539ce3e29a6b92a8
Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
Apps are now gaining superuser/root access but it doesn't seem to be working like the normal superuser.
The default superuser apps still aren't working.
I'll have to check up on it more when I get back from classes.
Oddly enough, the chainfire superuser app now installs correctly.
For some odd reason, it requested access from the first one installed. Either way, it's working, and it seems as if all the apps that need root access are getting it. I don't see any special Superuser settings in the menus, but I'm guessing that's just a feature i've been seeing in all the roms.
Long story short: Problem solved
Hope this topic helps anyone who has similar issues.
Hello,
I recently used the toolkit to unlock and root my Sprint N6. Super user was installed and works. I installed Rootcheck after everything was complete and it verifies that the phone is rooted. I have installed Nexus 6 double tap to wake and LED control and both state that the phone is not rooted. Super user shows both those apps have super user access.
What am I missing? Thank you!!

you will also need to install busybox as well, as many root apps need it. install from the play store, then install from the app. search busybox in the play store, then choose stericsons version.

Thank you for the reply, Sorry I failed to mention I do have the move listed busy box installed as well. I have clicked on install from within the app as well. Still none of the mentioned root apps work, all say phone appears to not be rooted...

try flashing the supersu 2.71 with twrp recovery, you should have root when you boot up. dont use the toolkit.
simms22,
I flashed version 2.71 through recovery, after reboot it was installed. Same "phone does not appear to be rooted" when trying to use the root apps... Root check still says phone is rooted. This is puzzling!

very odd! tell me, which rom are you using? and did you wipe your data before rooting? if not, you might have to wipe your data then reflash your rom/gapps, and supersu.
I am stock rooted. Yes I wiped data and started from scratch after unlock and root.

when you try to use a root app, so you get a little popup that asks you to give the app root? do yoh have the supersu app installed as well?
Yes SuperSU 2.71 flashed, the popup comes up and I grant access. Then each app says not rooted. Makes zero sense... The apps even show up in SuperSU app.
Yes, there is a popup and I have granted SU access to the above root apps, still no joy. I have SuperSU 2.71 flashed and installed, Root check verifies root.
I had this. The fix is to uninstall Busybox and reinstall into an alternative directory where it can be found. Mine appears to work fine in /su/bin, but if that doesn't work for you try the others (/system/xbin, /system/bin etc.)
It may not even need to be uninstalled - you could just try installing into the different directories until you find the one that the root apps are checking for root, though I'm not sure whether that would clutter your device with redundant binaries. I'm sure someone will be able to advise on that.

Hey,
I have Note 5 SM-N920C MM 6.0.1
Lost my root today after 4 week of that I using it (apps like "Titanium backup" and "Uninstall" doesn't work)
when you get into SuperSU I get the flowing massage
"There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 5.0 [***ANY ANDROID VERSION***] , you need to manually re-root. [OK]"
I try to install SuperSU from google play again and I run into the exact same situation as before.
Checked it with Root Checker "sorry root access is not properly installed on the device"
Tried to re-root it with Kingo root (for the 1st time) getting "Root Failed"
If you have any ideas what to do I would be happy for your ideas
(I pretty new to it, it's my 1st android device had iPhone 2/4/4s/5 before )
Happened to me today as well. Xposed claimed there is a module update (although the only module I had is lucky patcher, and that wasn't updated). After a reboot, I lost root access and custom recovery...
Happened to me since a week ago... Anyone has any fix available for this?? Please help..
I have same issue
I was trying to re-root:
Flash stock system.img (june security update)
Flash stock boot.img (june security update)
Flash supersu
Flash elementalX
No profit ☹
I’m using:
twrp-2.8.6.0-shamu
ElementalX-N6-3.16
Systemless supersu 2.74 ( on I have 2.65 same issue)

You need to root
Frist flash recovery custom example TWRP next flash file zip application su 2.74-2 in TWRP ...
This happened to me too. I followed the procedure New Root Method For 5.1.1 w/o custom kernel. It worked for 3 weeks, and then without warning root was gone. Exactly same behavior as OP.
I Flashed SuperSU again from TWRP recovery, and have root again. But I want to understand why this happened so I can prevent it. I don't get OTA updates, and automatic updates are disabled. What could "break" the systemless root without causing a request I would have to allow? I have three applications enabled for root in SuperSU Pro: Adblock Plus, EX FIle Explorer Pro, and Titanium Backup.
Hey,
I have the same pb with GN4 6.01
i fix it with super su 2.68 with twrp-3.0.2-0-trltexx.img, clean dalvik cache et cache
reboot
open su and go update binarie on google play. (update 2.76 stable)
Test du su avec ESexplorer
It 's work

I lost root as well! Im on note 5 6.0.1. I had been doing fine until I flashed the nexus launcher. The launcher flashed properly but lost root after that. Ive tried to re-root again and I cant because 1. I lost TWRP! 2. My pc wont read my phone even though I installed and unistalled the samsung drivers over and over. When I install the drivers it initially works but once I turn my phone off it wont work again! Anyone know how to fix it!?
Hello there,
stupid question but Pokemon Go doesn't work with latest version (0.37). It says OS is incompatible (and ROM has been de-rooted, this was verified). I think it's due to Safeynet check that doesn't pass. I will check this tonight !
Using an old AMCHA version (Android 4.4.4), Pokemon Go works great with 0.35... but for now. When this version will be desactived, there will be no way to play anymore.
Is there a ROM, official or custom, working with Pokemon Go 0.37 and future versions ?
Thanks for your help !
seconding this!
i am on N4EliteLite_v15-Final-Note5Edition_i9305_AROMA and the game worked perfectly until the update
i already tried RootCloack with Xposed -- not working
i cannot try magisk method because it requires android 5.0 and i have not found a 5.0 rom with working gps for i9305.
any ideas?
thanks in advance!
Yep, I saw Magisk method but I didn't noticed it was only for Android 5.0+. So I will have to flash a new ROM if I want Pokemon GO + root !
Is there an official Samsung release (or an optimised ROM based on it) that works will v0.37 ?
@Girugamesh : it seems that Ressurection Remix is the best one to choose !
thanks for telling.
unfortunaly i am stuck with magisk manager root toggle turning it self off again
i flashed ressurection remix and followed the guide on androidpolice
i even tried flashing "unSU Script zip"
let me hear if you have any luck with your i9305
I will try to flash new ROM this week-end. I will tell you if I find something.
For your issue, check if all the folders associated with SuperSU are deleted : /system/xbin/su, /data/su.img, /sbin/su etc. There is probably something remaining from previous root.
i finaly made it. the real pain was to get rid of a corrupted supersu installation (es file explorer was not allowed to remove su.bin)
i did supersu unroot, deleted the files you said, also used unSu script.zip BUT since i dont need root, i just started pokemon and it works.
to clarify i am on ressurection remix android6.0 with a i9305
thanks for your help
Great news !
For my wife's phone, I will give a try on the latest official ROM (4.4.4 - I9035XXUFPB1). If it doesn't work, I will go on RRM + full unroot. More news this week-end

How?
I didn't find a Superuser app, but I deleted everything su related from /system
Flashed magisk, Flashed phh Superuser, installed magisk and phh app, but the toggle keeps reverting to root. Maybe you could provide me with the steps you took

I thought that I'd post my solution here. I'm running CM13 right now and I can run the lastest version of Pokemon go.
1. Install Supersu from the play store and select the option full unroot.
2. Flash Magisk and phh's SuperUser.
3. Install the Magisk manager apk and install phh's SuperUser from the play store.
4. Now when you want to play PoGo open the Magisk manager and disable root. Simple as that.

Yep, I followed the steps provided by the dev of magisk. Seems like that thread gets so overrun by "doesn't work" that individual questions get forgotten haha
I can't think of anything I did wrong, I'm trying to get it to work on an s3 lte and a note 3.
On my main, s7 edge, it works perfectly. But only because I found a rom featuring magisk and phh root in aroma.
I'm reflash the rom right now to start over. Maybe it'll work now.
Edit:
phh's root didn't work.
the modified SU app did however
Edit 2:
Nah
Magisk is working, yes, but PoGo wont let me enter and SafetyNet wont let me pass either.
Ugh getting sick of this.
Tested with official I9305XXUFOB2 and without any root / busybox, everything is OK with Pokemon GO 0.37.1. No need to go further for my part

Hey man, can you help me step by step what you did to unroot and get POGO running on resurrection remix
I just got a new Fire 7" 5gen, with Fire OS 5.3.1. I immediately used Supertool to root it and install the CM ROM.
So far so good.
But not realising how CM deals with root access, I manually installed SuperSU. SuperSU wanted to update the binary, which I accepted. It also wanted to remove the existing root manager, which I also accepted... And then the binary update failed.
It's only then I realised that I somehow ended up with a custom ROM but no root. Neither SuperSU nor Superuser can get root access (both failing binary update), and Kingroot can't root it either. I'd have just flash CM again, but FlashFire also doesn't work without root. So I'm kind of stuck now...
Any idea how I can get root?
Just realised that I had to turn on root in Dev options. I did that and rebooted, but Super SU still fails to update the binary. FlashFire now says "Root was found but access could not be acquired".
Make sure you did reboot after root activation in dev options
Yes, as I said, I already rebooted. Any other idea?

At this point your best/only option is to reload FireOS via Amazon's stock recovery (same version as before) and redo root, Flashfire, etc. There is no reliable way to secure root on a custom rom as device lacks access to a 'real' recovery environment. Don't bother with KingRoot on CM - likely won't work.
