hi:
on cm9 or the latest cm10, a long press on the back button says app killed yet it still seems like the app is only minimized..
is there some other setting ive been missing?
no biggie, but would be really nice... plus i could apply the same thing to my wifes N7
thanx
when you say "minimized" what do you mean?

there are 3 buttons on bottom left :: back, home, and running apps.
long press just does about the same as pushing home ..
all long pressed apps still show as running in that button.
even using back button over and over doesnt close any app or browser..
no matter what , i have to manually close apps

ok i'm familiar with the buttons on the notification/status bar, however the "running apps" button is not running apps button, it's "recently used apps" button. it doesnt mean that the app is still running.
well, I should probably be embarrassed.. so I am a little..
thanx for that.. Every day I understand android a little more..
if I knew of a way to automatically clear that column, I would..

you can clear the recently used apps by swiping them left or right with your finger.

I know on CM10 (for Atrix) there's a little button on top right that clears all recent apps. I didn't see it on CM9. Swiping is the only way it seems. Change it to webOS style and it's more fun!
Cheers

I am running the latest version of cm10 and this and the previous version when you tap the recent apps button third in from the left i see 3 small horizontal lines in the bottom left hand corner, tapping this removes all the little windows in recent apps.
yees to all those things
Hello,
is there any way to kill the current process by holding the back button?
thanks
Can't you just swipe it away in the recent apps menu ?
On stock and non-rooted rom you can only disable all background processes in Developers Menu. There's no way to set a hardware button kill action.
Would be cool to have a mod with "long press kill option" like in CM rom.

It kills most apps - not all of them though. Some are "swipe-resistant" for whatever reason.
3rd party app

Hi, I am currently using third party apps to kills, Its called gmd gestures which u can create a gesture that will kill process (Force stops the app but still u will receive the push notification) so it will not drain ur battery, u can also hide ur onscreen buttons and status bar where u enjoy th full screen real estate. Try it and u will love it

I googled this and it seems that swiping apps is pretty useless. When you swipe an app you just clear it from memory cache. So you will not get any ram out of swiping. But still, can someone confirm it??

I See this in the CM Rom in Developer Option
i'd like my soft keys to be on the far left. it's a pain in the ass to navigate having to stretch my thumb so far to the middle.
i'm talking about home / back / recent apps button. what was asus thinking? its a 10.1 tablet.
also, would be awesome if the notification pull down bar was in a corner as well. anyway this is possible?

You can't
Well you can if you unlock and flash a stock based 4.3 rom and then use xposed with phab7

I used your method for unlocking and I installed xposed, but doesn't seem like anything happens when I switch settings in phab7.
Anu suggestions?
Have you enabled phab7 as a module in Xposed?
Sent from my K00C using Tapatalk
Yes
enable xposed
reboot
goto xposed modules
enable phab7
reboot
goto exposed phab 7
choose tabletui
Thank you, I didn't realize I needed to enable after installing
Sorry to bug you but how about you how about the apps button lol

Wanted to move it somewhere where it is easily accessible instead of the middle of the screen. Like we moved th soft keys with phab7

Install a launcher like APEX or NOva and then you can move it where ever you want. It's locked on the stock launcher.
Hey thanks a lot. Appreciate what you do for the community.
Just found out a little tip which many of you might already know. If you are missing the menu button, especially for outdated apps like the xda app, you can still access it. The note 4 replaced the menu button with recent apps button, but if you long press the recent apps button you will get to the menu function.
That is all. Have a good day.

Thanks for that. I was using a friends S5 last night and that was driving me mad. My note 4 is at home waiting for me to open the package
If they completely removed it, then yes but holding task switcher for a couple of more seconds then it doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that I have to hold the back button every time to access Multi window bar as app switcher only has opened apps.

App switcher has on every app window a icon on top right that does what you need.

You are welcome. It would have been a nightmare had it gone forever. Not all applications have that on screen menu button.
Brilliant, I missed that button... nice to know it's still there
Need a way to reverse the functionality from long and short press
Nope don't miss it. I don't even use the long press.

Its not about missing it just because you prefer to press the physical button. There are many apps which don't have the soft menu button. For example, go to Google Now and try to change the settings, but don't long press. Good luck with that.

I just did. Took less than 2 seconds. Then again, 6 of my past 7 phones all had on screen nav buttons, which I prefer

There is. There is no way Google didn't implement soft menu button when they themselves are pushing on screen nav bar and soft menu buttons. Open Google now and it's bottom right corner. Might need to scroll all the way down. That might be the only annoying thing about it but it's there and very easy to access.

Oh I see, thanks. I assumed it would be on the top right corner. However, there does remain other apps that don't have it at all. For example the XDA app.

I agree with what your saying. But you've picked 2 really bad examples. You can get to menu without menu button in xda!
I am used to Android tablets which don't have the menu button anyway, so I don't miss it on the phone.

Open up the left panel and whilst its open. The far right button changes to a settings cog.
People should have read the manual by now...
Is it possible to add a multitasking button to the navigation bar without flashing a custom ROM?
I am on a XT1097 rooted stock Lollipop.
Is the square button not multitasking? All the way to the right like all stock android versions?

Hmm.. yeah, maybe I did not explain myself correctly.
I meant a button to go back and forth between two apps.
Let's say you are on a hangouts session and editing a drive doc. Someone says something interesting and you want to take notes and quickly get back to the hangout session.
I had this button when using CyanogenMOD on my Nexus 5, but now I don't know how to do it on rooted lollipop stock.
Ah. On stock android, it's only the recent apps button that I know if. Switching between two apps with one touch sounds like a custom thing.

Yes, a thing I want to customize
I recently started using tiny apps app. It's got a floating app drawer that can hide on the side so you don't have to go back to the home screen. Other than that, I believe there are numerous apps that will give you an app drawer with a swipe from the left side of the screen.
