hi to all of you. I bought very recently a Mate S in France for a Japanese friend. But when she went back there, and went to two different phone operators to get a micro sim card, they said that Europe phones won't work in Japan. I called today Huawei France and they told me the same. Phones bought in Europe won't work in Asia, and vice versa.
I can't believe that.
So my question is will it work if we change the firmware and do someone had such experience in the past?
It will be very helpful. Thank you.

You should first check if your phone hardware will work with your Japan operator, go to willmyphonework.net and see 3G/LTE support.
Another thing is that, if your phone is branded, you must change vendor/region on oeminfo file. It showed up that phone operators are limited by that, too.
And if that´s OK there is a useful post about converting to UL-00(China) which might be suitable for you. And it works, provided you´re on Android 5.1.X -so don´t upgrade to MM.
Of course, do not mess with this if you have very little or no experience, as you´re likely to end up in a brick.

Thank you very much Ricky for fast reply.
First of all, I checked it on willmyphonework.net and 3G and 4G is ok. I made it with Softbank which is my friend's operator, but I guess it will be almost same with another one.
Now I need to know how to change vendor/region on oeminfo file. Any link will be welcome, but I will search by myself.
The problem is that this phone is in Japan now and my friend is not familiar at all with these tech things. But you gave me some informations she can bring to the operators for a first step.
Another step could be to go to Akihabara, well known as the tech city in Tokyo. There she could find some informed technician.
Really thank you for useful help.
Alain.

Hello everyone, I'm new in this and English is not my first language so excuse me for my bad english. I'm planing to buy the HTC Diamond but I live in PR and I'm stock with cingular for one more year I think, so if I buy the phone what do I have to do to make it work with my cingular SIM card?
thanks
Where are you planning to buy it from?
I'm planning to buy it from ebay. Is there any web site where I can find it for less?
Mine works in PR
I can tell you about my experience with the sprint one. I ordered the day it arrived on US and when it got here the net wasn't working and overall crappy. Sure most of the problems are now fixed but thanks to the community. You can try it normally or you can purchase on of these to make it work.
http://www.opirata.com/sigma-xsim-alpha-p-1718.html
You can always try CTI-Miami, or some other third party reseller. Also, you just need to put the SIM card from your old phone into your diamond for it to work (that's all you need to do).
so I don't have to unlocked it or do anything like that? It will work with my cingular SIM.

well, as long as you buy a unlocked one, then you will be fine. (it should be unlocked anyway, since at&t isn't offering the diamond.)
The unlocked ones are more expensive than the ones that are for sprint, isn’t and easy way to unlocked them by myself?

you can't use the one for Sprint on at&t, they use two totally different technologies, GSM vs. CDMA. so even if you buy the sprint one, you can't use it on at&t.
ok, thankyou everyone for your help!!!!! I guess I will have to save a bit more haha.
Hi, I'm from Argentina and I bought a used G1, and I need to know if it is from the USA. Now, it's from T-mobile, does that guarantee me it's from the US?
Also, it has DRC83. As I have read (though there's not much info about that build), it is rooteable, so I'm wondering, what's the easiest way of doing it? I read a couple of guides, but there are so many methods I get lost.
Thanks in advance.
DRC83 is only for T-mobile G1 from the U.S. . Use the oneclick root from unlockr.com, do a google search and you will find it. Sorry I can't post links from my phone.
if its from the united states it says t-mobile on it

h**p://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile
It's a German company and we are not proud of it. ;-)
As I understand it, the hardware across all "tmobile" branded devices is identical, except for possibly a minor change in the button layout for languages other than english.
In other words, it doesn't matter.
Root it, install engineering bootloader, and you're all set.
You can tell by CALL and END buttons. If they are red/green, then the phone is from the US. If they are all of the same color (white) then it's European model.

Hello!
I purchased my HTC One in America thru AT&T on August 14th, 2013 (a little less than a month ago).
I recently unlocked my phone using cellunlocker.net...I followed their instructions and my phone said it unlocked.
However, now I am unable to connect it to Taiwan Mobile (aka TW Mobile).
I know the local SIM card I have is working, since I am able to use it in another phone.
I am not sure if the issue is that my phone is too new or if my phone is just incompatible with the local networks? This seems very strange to me since HTC is based in Taiwan!
Any help you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated. I just got this phone and really love it! I hope I can continue to use it and don't have to ebay it :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for reading and have a good day

I bought an AT&T One and brought it back to Taiwan. It worked pretty well.

In what way will it not connect?
Cross referencing this: http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-one/#specs
With this:

Says that GSM and 3G (HSPA) should both work as the frequencies match.

How do I know if I have the correct APN settings entered? I'm assuming since my phone said it did unlock after I entered the code that I did it correctly.
Do you think it may not be working because I've had the phone less than a month?
Thanks so much for the quick replies everyone. I really appreciate it! :highfive:

When I try to connect to TW Mobile, a notice pops up reading "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network." Other than that, I'm not sure in which way it won't connect. Sorry I'm not uber techy :silly:

APN
Go to settings, Mobile Data, Access Point Names, and use the 3 button menu to create a new APN(Access Point Name). You will have to google (your mobile service provider name) + "APN settings" to find out what to input. Or if you have another android phone on the same network (or know someone who does) you can copy the APN settings from them. Good luck!

I would interpret that message as reporting a locked phone, it may be that the SIM unlock failed .

Hi!
my Nexus 6 detects no SIM card, I bought it used and with this problem. I'm from Europe and I suspect that the phone could come from US . This could have something to do ?
What can I do?
Thank you very much !
European sims work in North American version fine.. Sounds like a faulty sim tray. Send it back.

thanx!
I asked for price of sim card reader change repair in a local Repair shop and it is around 30 to 50€, good news if this is the solution!
I was afraid this problem could have something to do with the last owner changing software, I am beginner in all this matters.

First find out what your carriers settings are, like the APN settings. See if it's gsm cdma.. You can try going in the phones settings and checking them out open the dialing pad and *#*#4636#*#* and look around.
hi, thank you for your response, that menu was the first thing i tried lol, i put an o2 sim in and i got it to show the H symbol next to the signal bars which still had a cross on them, it also auto installed the apn settings other than that, no change

You cannot unlock the SIM card with a code from anywhere online it doesn't work that way because number one the SIM card in these phones is only to allow the phone to get LTE internet speeds number two the MEID is how the phone gets service not just the SIM card cause you can remove the SIM card and the entire phone will still work just without LTE number three you can't insert another carriers SIM card and then have the phone ask you to enter the unlock code because the phone will never ask for that code when you put another SIM in there it will just say invalid SIM card and nothing else and number four, the phone is unlocked via uicc and has to be done on the carriers side not some unlocking websites code....

No. Because many people have gotten the unlock codes and not a single person can find a way for the phone to ask for it. Of course he IS in Europe and their rules are different there so he may have, who knows.

Why don't you just take your phone to your carrier and have them program it to use their services?!?!

It could be a legitimate unlocking site that he used and expected it to work with his 510 (which they probably don't say that they don't support it), in which case he can probably convince them to refund his money.
Or it could be a scam site, in which case he'll have to do a charge-back or something to get his money back.
Also, he could take it to his current carrier but given the evidence of previous users, they won't unlock and program it for their network because the likelihood of them being able to is slim to none.

It seems like he's screwed then. I unfortunately don't know how or what settings to use to help him with the issue. He did say "should I contact o2?" So I asummed he could contact them I guess.
