I've read an article that sony decided to release android n preview for the z3, is there any news whether the same will happen with z3+?

Got an email from Sony Mobile that said "Android N developer preview available for select Xperia devices." Got all hot and bothered until I read it's only for the Z3.

Is it now possible for devs to port over some z2 apps for non rooted devices that we are both on KitKat now?

Of curse, just buy the Z2 and send it to a Dev, it will be happy to do it.

Wouldnt really find that completly necessary considering they have the system dump and apps are already available for the rooted devices, and theyve also been able to get the Xperia z2 live wallpaper over before the KK release too

I know for sure we will get all from Z2, just a little of time and patience. Devs are working on it.
I love Sony since my p900i. Joined xda in the x10 days and moved to,arc s, xperia s, xperia t, xperia z and now z1.
Really love Sony the only problem is I'm curious about Ubuntu touch.
Is anybody else here interested, or am I the only with xz1? And developers maybe?

EDIT
sorry you do have a Z1.
Please post in the correct section,(I have already asked the mods to move it)
i would love to see ubuntu working on my z1. But only if it works flawless. if it's a beta or something, then i lose all interest
I'm rather interested too, I am going off Sony's attempt at Android skinning, since the update to 4.4 I'm not liking it.

Really? I find it quite good looking, specially compared to the other three big android manufacturers(Samsung, HTC, LG)
It could use some polish though and more animations

Oh don't get me wrong, Sony have done a much better job with it than the likes of Samsung and HTC who have butchered it!

Yep agreed
Though HTC is not bad
Samsung And LG are the ones that truly butchered it, touchwiz and optimus UI, those ugly mother******s really need a serious update

people what do you think of the new Android L?
do you think we will be able to the run the dev-preview on our Z ahead of time?
have you seen that the aosp build in the presentation got a battery saver mode?
basically i could post a lot of questions but what i really wanna know is your opinion and your ideas about it. btw do you guys think as this will be a major release that we will get it from sony as well?
here is one of the sources i read about:
http://www.gsmarena.com/google_announces_andriod_l_developer_preview-news-8864.php
and of course our portal
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/a-closer-look-at-the-user-interface-changes-in-android-l/
If Sony wants to to remove the "Sony doesn't update old devices " tag they have, they need to update the original Z line (Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z) to it. But, as off now, no news regarding Nexus 4, which has the same processor as ours. Let's wait until Sony give us a pronouncement regarding that...

Don't expect much, the Z already got 2 updates. 4.3 and 4.4. Sony thinks their job is done now. We could just run an AOSP build once they're running.

Except for us with the Unlockable Bootloader. =/
We received 3 Android upgrades actually.
The phone shipped with 4.1.2, then we got 4.2.2, 4.3 and now 4.4.2. ?

If Sony would support our Z for the 18 months, there is a possibility that we might get it.
They really need to get rid of their "bad" image regarding updates.
Doesn't matter either way, would be nice to run it, but the fact is some of the benefits won't be there for our hardware, and most of us will be due a new phone by then.

HTC says they will bring it to HTC one m7.......

anyone able to get the hardware requirements? @kingvortex i know it's great, it's my first flagship device i am really happy with all the updates and roms and developers and stuff.
so you guys definitely think we will be able to run android L with or without sony?
Without, I'm sure. With Sony? Maybe not so fast. System Requirements, weren't even mentioned. But it will be running on phones cheaper than the Moto E, which is already extremely cheap by itself, so I think the Xperia Z (and brothers) will handle it just fine.

Yeah, but the problem with AOSP is bad Google camera (no Sony camera ported yet) and no FM radio
Kexec is very close to complete functionality for the Z1. This will enable unlockable Xperias to run any custom kernels
This is the thread on Kexec if you're interested in keeping up with development. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495152

Android L is said to come to Xperia Z officially.. Probably the last update.. But i think its a major upgrade in terms of UI.. Its already known that Android L's UI includes a lot of Sony APIs and CM APIs.. With LG also working along, i think it will be very good.. And 4.4.2 was a initial major upgrade from Jelly Bean fw's.. And things got well in 4.4.3.. I think Android L would be less buggy and would bring more performance and system stability because of ART only.. I think it will be a big upgrade..

My mistake.. Its LIKELY to arrive.. :silly:
http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/5570...e-android-l-xperia-z2-tablet.htm#.U65oLNKSwrs
But i am sure it WILL.. Coz XZ is a premium device under Z2 and ZU.. And SP too..
Android L is so freaking fast and nice, just flashed it onto my N5.
It simply has to come to the Z.

So, a guess from a random website based on what Sony did with KitKat. Previous update schedules don't affect the likelihood either way of getting newer versions of Android.

It would be great, but I have doubts that it will. HTC are talking about providing it for some of their devices 90 days after release. If Sony were to even follow such a fast schedule then it takes us well outside of the supposed 18 months of support for Android devices.
I hope they surprise us though. ?

Why Xperia ZR is under Legacy & Low Activity Devices category? isn't it odd for a relatively new device?

Xperia Z ZL and ZR are 3 siblings out of which Z is the most active forum. most devs are working on Z and then some devs port it to ZL and ZR
thats why its low activity device

siurabhp is right, most devs only do Z modding, some devs port the mods to ZL and ZR. However, out of the 3 siblings, ZR is the most difficult to port to, because unlike Z and ZL which have 1080p screen, ZR has 720p:good:
So basically this means ZR owners have fewer options in custom ROMs and have to wait longer to get new ones (if by any chance someone port it), right?

I bought ZR as soon as it came out- just because there was no alternative (waterproof, compact size).
I wonder how the Z3 Compact will do compared to ZR.

LOL I didn't think as much as you guys do. I brought it because of three reasons.
Consideration:
ALL handsets -(i want android)- ALL androids -(i want sony flagships, because i watch TV at my bath)- Sony Z series -(i want removable battery)- xperia ZR:good::good:

Come'on man you kidding me? Hey at least you get to taste Nestlie's proudest(not anymore) chocolate bar, AND an update to this bar!!
Well the phone itself is absolutely an improvement and im totally happy with it; but i think the development area needs more love ?

I think if XDA would have gave XZR its own category, not under 'legacy and low activity devices' we would have more developers for our device

I hope you are right. However, the "get out of legacy category" equals "more developers" logic is somewhat flawed. Because developing for ZR isn't paying off!:crying:
I would definitely donate for a good and reliable ROM. Better investment than upgrading my phone

I just wanted to ask whether lolipop is coming to z1 or not?
It is coming, like February or March.
But c'mon, we have a good piece of hardware. How they can miss this model for lollipop?
All Z phones are
january for z3 febuary for z2 and z1 and march for z
@iain26 do you have a conformation of this time frame?

The Z1 is February not March. The Z1 compact is march.
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Xperia+Z1+lollipop
Sony would get a lot of cred if they'd be able to tell that all of their Xperia Z are running Lollipop at the Mobile World Congress, in March.
If this calendar is true, they might just be able to do so!
