This is a stock turbo. It was sitting on my desk this morning and I heard it reboot all by itself. It was just sitting there. Now it is at the Setup Wizard screen as if it just factory reset itself.
Anyone have this happen to them?
Any idea why?
I haven't gone through the setup yet, but I am assuming I lost all contacts and everything.

Your contacts should be backed up in Gmail, unless you are using some kind of Verizon contacts app. When you sign into Gmail, your contacts are there. That's one of the awesome things about Android.
However, my sister has AT&T and they foisted some kind of AT&T contacts app on her when she switched from iPhone crap to Galaxy S6. First thing I did was export all her contacts to Gmail. Now, if she ever gets a new Android device, sign into Gmail on new Android tablet/phone, BOOM, all her contacts are there.

Yeah thanks I was assuming that. I guess I am even more curious why it would have done this.

I've cleared my contacts a bunch of times (by going into manage applications and clearing them in the app) and reloaded from my SIM card. It seems like each time i come back from my phone sleeping or turning on (i haven't totally figured out the pattern) i'm seeing 6 or 7 copies of the same contact for all of my contacts.
is there any known issue between 4.0.4 and contacts? should i import and then store somewhere else? how to I go about choosing a different place to store them and a different place for my contact app to look for them?
Thanks
DaveKid
Are they coming from google via sync? You can turn contacts sync off, but maybe logging into google http://mail.google.com , clicking on contacts and removing any you don't want from there.
they are all coming off my sim card.
goto my.tmobile.com and make sure your contacts there is empty. Your sim may be syncing with tmo.
no contacts on tmobile except for myfaves.
Got it...needed not only to make sure i didn't have any tmobile contacts but gmail as well. found them all in my gmail account. didn't realize it synced with that by default.

That was my first suggestion and you slapped me down
omg...my bad...you are totally right. crap...i wasn't paying attention. sorry about that.
My Hero has been rooted since August, for the first couple of months after I rooted it I was flashing a new ROM everyday, just to find one I really liked.
Well for the last few months I've been using ASOP 9.7 and this theme, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833504 I've tried to flash newer versions of ASOP a few times but none of them worked for me without a ton of FC's so I finally just gave up and have been happy with the theme and 9.7 but now I want to try something new, namely one of these, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731659
My question is, I want to be able to sync all my contact with my Google account and my Gmail but I DO NOT want all my apps restored, I'd like to start over fresh in the apps department. It seems like with every 2.2 ROM I've tried it automatically restores my apps but I don't want it to, how can I keep this from happening?
Your Gmail and google contacts (not phone contacts) are always synced online. Your other email (non-gmail) is not synced, unless you are using IMAP. So, once you change the ROM and login into your google account, everything's (gmail/google contacts) restored.

I'm not worried about GMail and Contacts, those restore and I want them too, I just want to know if there is a way to keep all the apps from restoring.
Go to Settings, Privacy, uncheck Back up my data.
Another option. After you flash a new rom, and you are going thru setup, on the screen where you initially sign in to google, hit menu, disable restore.

Sometimes when I go to the calendar it is blank. Going to the Calendar app settings for my Google account, my calendars aren't listed. If I go to the main settings>apps>Calendar Storage and delete the data, I can then get the calendar back by going to the app and selecting refresh.
Any ideas why this is happening to me, but not my wife's N7? When this first happened I thought it was because I was using the QuickCalendar app so I deleted it. No joy.
BTW, my Bionic doesn't lose the calendar data--just the N7 loses it.

ANYONE? surely someone here as seen or heard of issues with the calendar app on the N7. ANY info is appreciated--I even created a secondary Google account to see if the N7 would lose it's calendar also. It does--just as often as my primary, which is many times per day.

Wife has exact same problem with calendar. It actually does the same thing with the contacts, which come back even less often then the calendar. Google cal and exchange accounts.
She tried calling the support number and the guy was clueless.
Haven't seen this and I use my N7 every day for calendaring stuffems.

I fixed it myself. didn't get any help from google forum. the fix was to reset the device. I told some folks about that in other forums, and when they reset THEIR devices, they too, got joy from the Calendar app.
Hi Guys,
Just curious if anyone knows if they have a method of transferring contacts and photos and whatnot in store? I've been upgrading through HTC iterations and they have the p2p software for this. I don't know how it's going to be going from an M8 to a galaxy device and wondering if I should do it all myself tonight or if the guys at the store have something for me.
Really excited to get my device tomorrow!
Thanks in advance.
Samsung Smart Switch app is installed on the phone when you receive it.
I feel like I'm missing something here.
.
Do it yourself, should be automatic for the contacts.
One of the beauties of the Android/GMail/GDrive eco-system is automatic syncing of these things.
IOW, your contacts (& calendar entries & other stuff) should already be in your GMail. (check first, just to be safe)
When you register the new handset in Gmail, it will automatically sync your contacts, calendar entries, etc.
.
I'd use Drive to back up yer pics & vids. Open 'em up and check off all you wanna keep.
Then share with Drive. Easy peasy.

Haha no you're not missing something. I have everything auto-backing up through google's ecosystem. My issue was that I bought a Moto360 recently which forced me into using Google Hangouts. When I made the transition, literally 1/2 of my contacts stopped showing up - I only see phone numbers instead of names on quite a few text messages. Checking what I've synced w/ google, all my contacts with names are definitely there. But I've just been leery of trusting the cloud ever since. And maybe too lazy to dig and work out a solution. So I was hoping for some miracles to happen with some 3rd party transferring intervention. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip! I did have to download it from the play store but it works flawless. I've tried so many apps to back up and restore my messages from my note 3 to note 4 and all of them failed to restore my group mms correctly. This one did it correctly and a lot faster. I went with the back up / restore via SD card method. Thanks again!

Ok I've done some digging and can't seem to find anything with my exact problem.
Yes I have looked up duplicated read only contacts BUT everyone seems to have this issue with contacts synced from another app. Mine is no.
Got this baby this past Sunday (found out that I can upgrade 7 days early so of course I did it. Love the phone and think I will be okay without root. Got Helium backup to backup my data. Only thing left is for them to add a Restart in the power menu then I'll be fine with no Root. OH and they need to get Lolipop out ASAP)
But ever since then I've been having this issue. I've been having new contacts made, same name as a contact I have, but with not info (most of the time. Sometimes it has their number in it). Now here is where it gets weird.
They are Google contacts that it says are saved under my Gmail. I go to Gmail, No duplicated contacts there, I try to delete, says they are read only and can only hide, AND it seems like the contacts that are getting duplicated are contacts that I seem to call most often. I have all other apps and their contact sync turned off so I know it's not an issue with them, and since they are saved under Gmail and when I turn off the local Phone contacts they are still there so I know they are not local saved/SIM contacts.
If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I felt like I had this issue loooooong ago with another phone but pretty sure it was back when Facebook synced its contacts and I had to link them.
I'm a savvy guy and know my way around Android.
Thanks
Ok well i ended up getting it myself.
For people with this issue:
Turn off google contact sync. Then go to apps in settings and then look for the contact storage app. Force stoo the act and clean all data. Check contacts to make sure its empty. Then enable google contacts sync.

Contacts in Android are stored in a database, and as they come from multiple sources (synced from Google, Facebook, Whatsapp, LinkedIn and copied from SIM or stored as "local phone" contacts...) it's easy to have multiple instances of same contact with different info or even duplicates. Contacts app let you "join" multiple contacts from different sources so they will appear joined in your contacts list, but they will still be stored inidividually in the database.
Anyway, there are multiple apps that let you manage your contacts at a deeper database level. With MiniContacts https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brapeba.minicontacts you can see all raw contacts one by one showing its original account source (group). And you can delete all contacts from a source (i.e. those coming from LinkedIn, or Facebook) or choosing manually those you don't want. Notice that if you don't disable the syncronization with the source those deleted contacts will reappear again. So, first disable syncronization! If you want to delete the contacts permanently from everywhere instead of just from your Android database, go to the source (LinkedIn, Facebook...) and delete them there.
Hope it helps...

I could kiss you right now. I have been scouring the internet and downloading apps for hours trying to figure out how to fix "read only" and "can't be deleted" contacts on my second replacement dud Turbo 2. Duplicates galore, and they wouldn't go away. Thank you, thank you, thank you! No more Verizon Cloud - that really messed it up both times. Merry Christmas! :good:

The app Simpler Contacts can merge duplicate apps. I've used it on friends' phones to do that.
Of course, Simpler Contacts also would like you to keep using their app and even their backup service, and they have a Dialer app too. But you don't need all that. I just use Simpler Contacts once in a while to check for duplicate contacts.
But this solution above is good too.
I also used Simpler Contacts to export all contacts from a "local" account. Helped to friends do this when they switched from iPhone to Android and the carrier store exported all their iPhone apps to "local" phone account -- which is STUPID. All the contacts need to synced with Google.
