I have been thinking of installing the Marshmallow update but I've been very hesitant to do so because all the problems people are having. I want to ask how to deal with the micro SD card issue. If I adopt it as internal memory, how do I get media files loaded on it as it is encrypted and can't be seen by any other device. (i.e your computer?). If I adopt it as regular external memory like with lollipop, how does the internal memory cope with not being able to move apps to the external SD card?. Thanks!!

Much people are confused about the SD card adoption on Marshmallow. When you adopt the card as internal memory on Moto G 2014 (I own LTE EU version, but it's the same on all Gs) ALL THE FILES ON IT get erased, so backup it all. You can load it from the computer after the process, because yes, the sd it's encrypted but if you connect it to the pc (directly) you can trasfer files like on all previous version of android. If you adopt as external memory nothing will change from the common use of SD in lollipop and previous.
Sorry for the poor english

Thank you!! What do you mean connect the SD directly to the PC? Not when it's in the phone? I have an SD adapter on my laptop can the computer read the SD card using the SD adapter?

. Great! Thanks for your help. Do you have Marshmallow on your phone? Have you had any problems with it?
I have Android 6. I've never had problems with the OTA update to marshmallow, and my Moto G was previously rooted so it have unlocked bootloader. Rather Android 6.0 improved the connection with my wearable Moto 360 1st gen. Anyway if you think to adopt the SD as internal storage be sure to take an High class SD card (Something like Samsung evo/evo+ or better pro/pro+) because if it brokes, you will be in serious troubles and data loose

. Thanks again for your feedback. I am using aSanDisk Ultra HC 1, 32 gig MicroSD card. Is that going to be OK to adopt as internal memory?

Greetings;
I use an OTG most of the time since in Canada the only storage option is 16Gb.
My device XT1097 is unlocked & rooted on stock Rom.
Lately the sd card is spitting out "Gibrish" files that are named in strange alphabets/codes!
And they quickly fill up the 32Gb sd card in the OTG. I have tried to format with different
applications and on the device "erase" function as well to no avail! As soon as I try to copy
anything to the card, the Garbage files take over!!
Any info/help is much appreciated.
I'm using lenovo A7000 and recently updated marshmallow and chosen 32GB SD card as internal memory. It was worked as internal memory perfectly quite some time, all of sudden I got message that SD corrupted and doesn't show data stored in the card, it shows zero files, I lost all media files!! However USB storage option in settings SD card shows 6.5GB used out of 28GB. Since it's treated as internal memory I'm not able to read the card as drive in other devices/computer. I have important media files and documents in SD card and I didn't backup them. I'm bit worried!!! How to recover the data from SD card. I assume if SD card changed back to portable, it will format and lose data!!! Please support
Hey , are you using stock original rom of lenovo a7000?

Phone is not recognizing SD card, shows it's corrupted. Phone doesn't have enough space!! Btw, how to migrate data from encrypted SD card to internal memory?
Follow your way through this article: https://nelenkov.blogspot.ro/2015/06/decrypting-android-m-adopted-storage.html
You should be able to read the SD card on a Linux PC.
Same problem
i also encounter this problem now with the same unit of phone and still i'm looking for the solution on how to fix the concern. can anyone help me how to fix the problem.
Recently in my z3 compact, I enabled my sd card as 64gb memory class 10 primary,
I thought that now everything would work out because I was solving the serious problem of the 16GB of internal memory that I think very little.
But I have a problem, I can not use the camera, it says that it can not access the memory, even alternating between internal memory (which would be the sd card) and the sd card option that is disabled.
I tried to install another apk from the camera, to try to solve this problem, and always says that the install failed.
How do i solve this, as this is what prevents me from using my cellphone in its full functioning.
It is with android 6.0.1 official sony

Try using the SD card in an other phone may be a faulty SD card.
If the SD card is fine, try re-flashing the firmware, there is many guides available.

The card works, and the camera tb, what happens is that I just stopped accessing the camera after I migrated the data to the sd card, making the phone recognize the sd card as the primary memory.
Sorry my english, I'm from Brazil

Then probably that is the reason it says only Internal Storage and not SD card available, because when you use your adoptable storage the SD card starts to act as internal storage.

What makes me curious is that devices like xperia m5 that use the same method, function works,
Something that in my z3 did not happen.
I saw that my camera version is still 1.0.B.1.10
And i saw that they ported the sony android 7 z5 camera
Would it work, try to install this camera via recovery?:
I would like to know if anyone has already tested
Because the m5 I mentioned should have this update

Hello everyone,
I got my phone yesterday. When I inserted the SD card in the phone, it showed me that the SD card is not supported & it asked me to format the card as an internal storage. It's a Samsung Evo Plus 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 memory card. Is this a problem with the phone or the memory card ? The memory card was working perfectly fine until yesterday evening in my Moto G5 Plus.
I'm on the lest version of software i.e. Android 8.1 with April 2018 security patch.
Please advise...
sorry, but can you provide a screenshot of the storage settings page? might be helpful for my own case, thanks!

I did not take a screenshot and now temporarily I am using a different memory card
What was the file system format? exfat, ntfs, fat32
I had the same ask for format the sd card!
I use an Samsung Evo plus 128 Go, in ExFat file format on my previous phone (zenfone 3 ze552kl), and when i install it on my Nokia 7 plus i just have to format in fat32, now it works well!
I just save all my data on my computer before format

I also did the same. But the memory card did not take data more than 30 GB in it. I had my previous data of 37 GB, but out of that only 30 GB got copied back in the card. Also now when I try to format the SD card, it shows the device is write protected.
Have you try to format it with a computer?
Maybe your card is counterfeit sd card, (one of my friend buy a samsug 32 go, but he received a 2 go sd card..), you can check your card capacity on computer with H2testw, it's freeware you can easily download. I only find french links, so you can google it
Software is in english and german.

Yes, I tried it using a PC only. The memory is a genuine Samsung memory card. Been using it for a year in my previous Moto phone.

No problem with your sd card. Nokia phones does not support exFat

Just installed Android P on my handset and my exFAT sd card works well.
Hi,
I recently installed Lineage 14.1 on my Tab S 8.4. Everything worked great and there is great improvement in performance.
I have one question, I have installed a 32Gb Micro Sd card and the device asked me if I wanted to format it as internal memory, which I did. So according to the OS I now have 40Gb, 8Gb onboard + 32Gb Micro Sd.
However when I try to install apps or connect the tablet to my computer it says that I only have 8Gb on board memory. So now even though I have a lot of space, the tablet keeps on telling me that I am running out of space.
So on one hand it sees that I have the 32Gb card installed, but on the other hand it ignores it.
I can try with another SD card, but it is quite a long process, since I will need to reset the tablet again, so before I do that I wanted to ask if someone had a similar problem, or maybe there is some hardware limitation on the tablet that will not allow me to use the sd card as internal memory.
Anyone come across issues like this before?

Your device should have 16gb not 8gb internal storage.
The data on the sdcard also gets encrypted once adoptable storage is enabled.
Data also needs to be migrated using the migrate option after setting up adoptable storage.
If your internal storage was already full before enabling adoptable storage then that's part of the issue.
Internal storage will still get used even with adoptable storage enabled, just most of the data will go to the sdcard.
I suggest you fix your size issue first.
You are right, the device does have 16gb and not 8gb.
Right now the usage is as follows, 14.5gb on the internal and 1.4gb on the sd card, although when I click on the sd card I am told that I am using 8.9gb.
When I first installed Lineage, the first thing I did (before even installing GApps) was to put the sd card in and when asked chose to format it as internal storage, so there was nothing to migrate, because none of the apps were installed.
The problem that I am having is that although the tablet days its using the sd card, it uses internal memory.

After more experiments I think I understand what the problem is.
Even though the OS says that it's using the sd card as internal storage, it doesn't.
I tested it by putting the sd card into a computer and seeing how much space was being used, the partition was encrypted, but based on the fact that it was less than 1gig, it is pretty clear that it did not store the 8gb of data as Android OS might have suggested.
So the question is, is Lineage OS unable to use SD Card as internal memory on Tab S8.4 because of hardware limitations.
Or is my tablet FUBR and it's time to let it rest and get a new one.
