what are you looking for?
do you want a universal head unit or specific for a car

A universal unit. Unless they make one for 2001 F250 Super Duty but from what I read the din size on the f250 is small an I will have to do some cutting but I'm ok with that.

Check out the Joying website under the "QUAD CORE 2 DIN ANDROID CAR RADIO" section. I'd paste the link but I can't post links yet.
There's a mix of Kitkat 4.4.4 and Lollipop 5.1.1 versions. Lots of software development out for the 4.4.4's - not much yet for 5.1.1 units. If you plan on staying stock I'd say go for a new 5.1.1 unit. If you want to mod right away, 4.4.4 might be the way to go. Majority of the differences with Joying units are the front panel button design.

got this one more than 6 months ago
Electrically very reliable, OS is stable also.

One bug, after new version of WAZE running, volume knob stops working, restart radio, then all is good
sound is very good, was able to use ISO connectors and not cut any wires in car.

I also agree. I have the GA2114 in my jeep commander as well. I'm running boroondocks ROM. No issues at all with it. Looks almost like a factory unit. One issue I had was that there's no subwoofer gain control. I had to add one in line. I use mapfactor navigator for offline maps, but Google maps also works well. I added a switch that allows me to kick in the rear camera while in motion too. I tow a 30' camper and have a camera on it that will be connected in lieu of the one on the jeep. Lane changes will be much safer.

Does your Jeep have steering wheel controls? If so, do they work on the head unit?

My home grown carkit

Hi all,
Yesterday I finished building my 0.5 release of an XDA car kit. I put together a few pages you can check out.

To see why and how I have done things, check out the top page of this project: http://www.climber.nl/Project/XDA/Carkit/XDA carkit introduction.htm.
The pages don't like nice but hey!! it's my first attempt. Just couldn't wait to show it

looking athe the xda connector page on here at the h/f kit bit it says 3 x 47p which i have found these.....
SF84F EMIFIL 3 Term 47pF £0.01
Features
• 1205 size 3 terminal capacitors
• Compact and thin
• High level of noise suppression
• Excellent high frequency characteristics
Applications
• EMI suppression in various electronic equipment
• EMI suppression of AC signal lines and DC power lines
• Severe EMI suppression in high impedance
circuits such as digital
That seems about right
Gareth,
Those 4F EMIFIL 3 Term 47pF £0.01 seem right.
The stuff on the other page are what we call ELCO's over here. There are not suited for this particular job.
I recall the page saying 47pF as well. The value of this capacitor determines the frequency characteristics of the decoupling 'filter' we are making here. I had a couple of 1uF 's lying around here.
Since they are cheap you might consider buying both or even a third and see what that does to the sound.
I had good results so far, but you have to keep in mind that I like to drive fast and my car gets rather noisy then
Let me know what your results are!
Robert

Any of you guys or girls into car stereos at all?

I do some car stereo stuff away from my dayjob, and if theres any interest, i'd like to share some build pics with you guys.

I'm into it, tho i dont have a car, but they do interest me
Please do share some.
I'm not huge into it but it is an interest of mine. Besides, I'm sure anyone here can recognize the beauty behind it all.
I use to be real big into it. DB drags and such. That was like 6-10 years ago though. My last system had 3 13" JL w7 powered by 3 JL 1000's... And yes my mother was right, my hearing has gone to ****.

one of the many pics of the build.....
and heres some of the one that i finished up last week.
Both need carpet, and the first one is getting something even more special.
there is an amprack in the top, there will be a flush mounted amp in there.
Let me know what you think.
nice boxes!!! wanna build me one???
I have a passing interest in car audio, just not a huge priority in the budget unfortunately.
This is what I have so far in my car:
dvd receiver with sirius and someday soon, bluetooth
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/In-Dash/DVD-Receivers/AVH-P3100DVD
front speakers
http://www.bostonacoustics.com/Pro60SE-P601.aspx
rear deck:
http://www.bostonacoustics.com/SR95-P627.aspx
Looking at these for the bass:
http://www.bostonacoustics.com/G310-P566.aspx
I already have a box that is in the recommended dimensions for these speakers.
Also, what is a good amp (not crazy expensive) to push these, or is there a better deal on 10inch woofers.
I'm looking for clean sound more than overall thump.
Any suggestions?
your link for the subs returned a server error
and im all about building something and shipping it....lol
Boston is an excellent brand, but compared to their retail pricing, there are better, less expensive options out there.
If youre looking for some ideas, shoot me a PM, i know of a few very good, lesser known companies that I have used, and also that i still use.
try this again. the 10"subs I've been looking at:
http://www.bostonacoustics.com/G310-P566.aspx
I agree, retail they are expensive, but they can be found for half of retail if you shop around.
Meant to edit that post, i clicked a second time and it worked.
They are killer sounding subs for sure. 300/pair isnt all that bad to be honest.

Heart rate monitor watch or device

OK, my problem is the cardio machines I use (I have arthritic knees so running is mostly out of the question) don't have heart rate monitor sensors in convenient places, or the sensors don't work. So I'm looking for a non-expensive solution (I'm ok with going up to around $100 or a little higher, if the reviews on the item are good), either stand-alone or bluetooth so I can use an app on my phone to alert me when I go out of my target zone.
If it's a watch, I would prefer just a watch, no watch+chest strap deals or anything like that. But whatever it turns out to be, I would prefer just a single item, since I'll already have my phone with me and I don't want to look like a walking Radio Shack.
Also, I'm looking for something that can constantly monitor my heart rate. I have a relatively cheap HR monitor watch that I have to first hold in the Mode button, then put my thumb and pointer finger over the heart rate sensors on the front of the watch, and doing that while I'm on the elliptical is a pain in the ass...and dangerous if I lose my balance.
So, any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

I'm not really looking for one now, but if there is a no frills HR monitor watch that comes with a lifetime warranty then i might grab it.
There is a Polar chest strap that can connect to an android device via bluetooth. I tried to post a link to it, but I'm not allowed to yet (I'm still a "newbie"). Just google "Polar WearLink Transmitter with Bluetooth."
Thanks guys, I'll check out the Polar option I think. The reviews are pretty good, and it sounds like it works with a couple different Android apps I already own, so that should work.

[Q] Do the "stock GS4A earbuds control volume/playback?

I just got a GS4A in somewhat terribad physical condition but it works 100% and it didn't come with any of the original accessories (box, adapter, microUSB cable, and of course the earbuds).
Can anyone that has purchased a GS4A brand new tell me if the stock Samsung earbuds have a volume control in the little remote pod in the cord, and if it can be used for controlling playback as well (Play/Pause, maybe 2 clicks for next song, 3 clicks for Previous, that sort of thing)?
Been searching for an answer but haven't found one yet, not sure precisely which earbuds are included with the GS4A so if anyone can take a picture of theirs or the remote pod (close up/macro image) I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks.
The headset that came with my i9295 has controls, yes, and they work well. I think they can do double-tap for next song in the player I use (poweramp), but don't hold me to that because I got a much nicer set of headphones with my purchase from the store (SOL republic Tracks HD), so I haven't been using the included earbuds much at all.

My international one did, but honestly it wouldn't have been a big loss if it didn't. As most bundled earbuds they are good enough, but nothing to be all that happy about. The shape makes them hang a bit awkwardly in my particular ears, and they seem to get pulled out a lot easier than other earbuds I use. The only reason I use them at all is that they are a compatible headset that is more discrete for use when I'm out on town, rather than my over-ear Tracks HD that I use to listen to music and so when I'm at home.
Wow, AT&T being so cheap they can't toss in a pair of $3 earbuds, good lord.
Oh well, I found some on eBay that claim to be the "real deal" Samsung product, which upon getting them I will promptly disassemble and attach my current Koss earbuds where were previously transplanted onto an iPod/iPhone earbud cable.
Thanks for the info...

Good choice, Koss earbuds are way superior to these. Unfortunately I don't have the tools right now or I'd do the same myself, I have a pair of old Koss where the contact broke that are just waiting for such a project.

[APP][Development] Birdview reverse camera APP using existing camera ONLY

I've noticed that these things are becoming popular,
And I thought why not make one for my Android head unit?
After doing some research in Computer Vision and hacking my car's android, I'm happy to announce that it works
You can see a live demo in my youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzpn0ROKkX8
The solution is software only - it uses complex computer vision algorithm (optimized the hell of it for embedded devices) to draw a top view of the surroundings of the car.
It translates rear camera view:

into top camera view (with memory of previous seen space - its a buch of mathematics that does that inside):
Hope soon to release the app

Existing solutions use 4 cameras with an extra unit that stitches them together or using odometry.
I'm aiming for a software-only solution, using only Android MCU and reverse cam that we already have.
Doing some research on my PC, I've managed to achieve some progress.
You can watch the video in my youtube channel
Managed to open reverse cam with OpenCamera app and even record a video.
For that killing SofiaUIServer process on my MCU was needed coz its responsible for turning on the camera as soon as you hit reverse.
That means that I can write a pure android app that does the bird view (hopefully performance won't be an issue).
Now it's only a matter of time (and will) until I finish that little project on Android.
What do you guys think, will there be a demand for such a thing?

I am interested in this project.
I have both rear and front cameras. The front camera can be opened only with F-CAM app which does not do recording. It would be nice to have both cameras showing on screen and recording. My system is mtcd based and I am not sure if your app would work.
Update:
I have a working demo in my car which can be seen in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlUI662VCA8
