Hi,
So as no one actually replied to my thread
and I couldn't pull system image from the firmware
I downloaded a custom stock-based rom and I took the needed files to revert emojis to stock and it worked well
so here are the two files
all you have to do is paste them both in system/fonts directory and change permissions with any root explorer to 644 (rw-r-r)

ok i have a problem i installed the custom boot android bios and i want a new one but it wont flash the new one i downloaded i tried manually installing but didnt work but i noticed the directories where different one was data/local while the new one was system/media can anyone tell me how to remove my old one ty in advanced
i copied the new "bootanimation.zip" to both directories. In data/local, i had to delete the original "bootanimation.zip". in system/media, i just copied my "bootanimation.zip"
I got the instructions from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696193
I didn't use ADB though. I mounted my phone to my comp, copied the files, then used root explorer.

use root explorer and extract the files of the bootanimation. go to "extracted file"/system/media where u will find bootanimation.zip
just cpoy it to your phone's system/media and it will work. (just remember to remove the existing bootanimation there.)
Open Root Explorer.
Go to /system/bin (since you have stock ROM).
Copy file samsungani to your SD-Card
Now delete your samsungani in /system/bin folder
Rename bootanimation in /system/bin to samsungani
Move ALL of .qmg file in /system/media and /system/media/video to your SD-Card
Put bootanimation .zip file in /system/media
Reboot

Hy boardmembers,
i use carbon rom 1.6.
Very good rom, but i want a other bootanimation.
I try this:
- download one of the two bootanimations (the simplistic one is worth it)
- extract the rar contents : bootanimation.zip file, do not extract the zip file
- put the bootanimation.zip file in your /system/media or /data/local folder
- on reboot, you get the new animation.
But it dont work
Please write what i have to do...
Maybe i have do delete the data inside the folders first?
/data/local = folder /tmp
and = data = zipalignedapk
/system/media = folder /audio
and data = LMprec_508.emd, PFFprec_600.emd
THX in advance
first find where is original bootanimation.zip, in your /system/media or /data/local folder

hy,
thanks for your feedback.
I found the mistake:
right folder:
/data/local
but i have to set the permissions for the bootanimation.zip!
thread can be closed.
How did you go about giving it permission, I didn't see any setting for this... Thanks
use any root explorer. right click on the file and choose permissions / properties and you will see the settings.. rw-r--r--
Hello everybody ! Last night i decided to change my bootanimation on my i9070 4.4.2 carbon. I followed the steps here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370870
So, first of all i flashed the file called " Enable Bootanimation.zip " using CWM recovery. At the next step i downloaded an animation and rename it to bootanimation.zip and put i in system/media. Finaly I changed permissions rw-r--r-- , but nothing happened. When i reboot the phone every time SAMSUNG GALAXY i9070 logo appear and after 10 seconds insted of animation on the display appear lines with diferrent colours (like a broken display ).
P.s. i deleted bootanimtion.zip file from system/media ...but the lines still apear everytime i reboot ... ;(
Any suggestion ?
Thanks in advance !
That flashable zip is only for stock ROMS. All custom ROMS have support for bootanimation.zip natively. You have two ways:
-Delete "bootanimation" and "samsungani" from system/bin, extract "bootanimation" in system/bin from Carbon 4.4.2 flashable zip and push it into system/bin of your device, then apply 0755 (rwxr-xr-x) permission and ownership owner 0: root and group 2000: shell. Now you can push any bootanimation.zip into system/media.
Or
-Just reflash Carbon 4.4.2 flashable zip without wiping anything. Then you have only to change bootanimation.zip and apply 0644 (rw-r--r--) permission.

Hey fellas,
I need to copy a file into folder /data/preload/ .
I cannot find this folder using the root explorer. Where is it?
I know it exists (or should exist) since system gives me an error message while applying OTA updates saying that a file is missing in that folder.
I have got the file now and want to put it back.
my phone:
HTC One M7,
rooted
stock recovery
s-on
bootloader unlocked/tampered

Does anyone know?
Thanks
Could it be in the system partition?
How can I access system partition?
In TWRP recovery I see an option named "mount" when I select it only the "data" in ticked.
Should I tick "system" as well, and it will mount the system partition? If so, then i can probably use the file browser of TWRP, find the data/preload folder and copy the missing file back in place. right?
download root browser, there is a free edition from play store as soon as you open it you will see the data folder on the list, its not in system, that's a separate folder.
you will need to copy the preload folder and its contents to that folder and change the permissions of the folder and contents.
you need to be rooted to use it.

Thanks Seanie.
So by default that folder does not exist? That's why I couldn't find it then!
I created the folder via root browser. What should be the permission for folder/apk file ?
now the preload folder permissions are rwsrwsrwt and apk file permissions are rw-rw----
does it make sense or should I change permission of filder and file both to 777 or 666 ?

It does initially exist, but if you've been flashing custom rom's and recoveries, then when you clear data it gets deleted, set permissions to rw-r-r- for the apk's etc and rwxr-xr-x for the folder
