Changing Gmail display name on Fire Email app - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

You would think that I could find this in a Google search...and I no longer have the Fire tablet...
A friend wants to change the display name in her Gmail account in the Fire tablet Email app. i.e. from Jane Doe to Jane Smith.
She doesn't want to change the Gmail account name, just the display name coming from the Fire Email app when she sends from it.
I have searched for two days, and all the search results come up with page after page about the INITIAL setup, not after it is already set up.
And even when I had my Fire tablet, I put in Google Apps very early on...and I don't remember much about the native Email app.

How? As far as I know, the display name is correct in Gmail in the browser.
It's only incorrect on her tablet.

There is no way to have a different display name for the same account - if it's correct on the web, it's correct from her tablet. Double-check the website.
gmail.com <her account> -> click the gear icon on the top right and click settings -> Accounts and Import tab -> under "send mail as" click "edit info." You can choose your google+ account name or a custom field.

Thanks! I thought it was set that way only on the Fire tablet and could be fixed in Settings in the Mail app. She is using the Fire built in app, not Gmail (she hasn't put in Google apps)... I thought that made a difference.
No wonder I couldn't find it in any of my searches!
I guess someone downstairs in IT didn't put in her work name when they created the account. She doesn't send much Email, though that name thing has shown up before. Thought it was a local configuration issue.
Thank you again!

Just one question on gmail trach

Hi all, been lurking for awhile and can't find a definitive answer. I just got my N1 yesterday and am absolutely loving it. It's my first android phone, so this question may be stupid simple, but it's killing me.
When I delete something from gmail on my phone, it moves to the trash label, just as it should. When I go to the trash label, long press the email and choose delete (from within trash), it appears to be removed from my phone. It is not, however, removed from my trash in Gmail. If I go back into the trash label on my phone it shows up again, and if I go into the trash area in the Gmail web client, it's still right there, living happily in the trash.
What am I doing wrong? Why can I not delete trash in GMail from my N1? Using the native Gmail app on the phone, nothing third party for it.
Thanks in advance for the help all!
Are you allowing it enough time to sync the change?
Yeah. Gave it over an hour. It's like the trash label doesn't sync. Everything else seems to be working fine.
This is what google likes to call the "Oscar the Grouch" feature. Just leave the trash alone and nobody gets hurt.
go into your gmail app
select menu > settings > labels >
you should see "Trash" or IMAP "trash" depending on your account setup
select it and click sync all or sync the number of days you have allocated at the top of the labels list
welcome to android
Thanks everyone for the welcome and the responses.
Okay, I guess I'm confused now. The only labels even visible in the gmail account settings on my N1 are Inbox, Starred, and Sent (which I have set for 7 days on all three of those). I don't have custom labels set up, that's true, but should trash be showing up here natively? Is there something I can do to add it? Is there a setting I need to make to my GMail account on the web?
Thanks in advance again for the clarification.

go onto gmail and check if trash shows up in the left panel. If not add it in the view/hide areas on the left and check phone after.
Sent from my Nexus One using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Yeah...trash label is not hidden and is on the left side under the inbox and the rest of the labels in the web interface.
Set up a second gmail account and associated it with my N1 as well. Neither account has the Trash label available in the N1 gmail app settings.

multiple Nooks using one gmail account?

So I have one and I bought one for my brother and sister, and I've set them up with my gmail account. Everything works great, rooted it and all done.
So my question is, how can I prevent them from accessing my gmail account and prevent them from making purchases on the Market.
FYI, this gmail account is also synced to my phone which it automatically defaults to my Tmobile account for payment.
**UPDATE**
Figured out the market payment thing, just go to checkout.google.com and deleted my payment methods. Haven't figured the gmail thing out though yet.

Why don't you have them use their own gmail accounts now?
Aye, not sure why not just use their gmail accounts, if they don't have one, it's easy enough to create one surely?
they are actually under the age of 10, so my parents don't want them to have email access yet.
I found a way to do it by blocking Gmail completely using App Protector, which requires a password to access apps that you have blocked on your system.
This will work for now.
In the opposite direction, is it possible to have two separate gmail accounts on the same device?

In the settings of the application you can put in multiple email accounts.
Poke around the options section, it should be readily apparent.
multiple accounts I believe was supported in 2.1+ but I may be wrong.
I have like 3-4 gmail accounts for my own on my phone.
Reason why my bro/sis are getting nooks is to encourage them in reading.
It's a really useful device for kids, reading, music, internet, games and etc.

Settings > Accounts & Sync > Add Account > Google
I would recommend that you set up email accounts for each of them, but don't set up the email on their nooks, just on yours. That way, you can purchase age appropriate books for each, but only you are on the email.

new GMail app

According to SplashGear, Google will release new GMail app (what version?) that allow multiple sign-in and also have option to sign-out.
I personally think it's great and look forward to see it.
Market still has 2.3.5 as the latest though.

You know this is for the gmail on the web not the actual gmail app. If you look at the picture that you see in the link, you will see its for the website version of gmail.

Google updated its Gmail for mobile browsers today by adding the much desired multiple sign-in feature as well as more settings options. Unlike the desktop version of Gmail, the mobile version has not supported multiple sign-ins for managing more than one email account until now.

I thought I saw the ability to add multiple accounts in the Android Gmail application. (Gmail 2.3.5) I will have to verify if you can be logged into both accounts simultaneously.

This has been possible for quite some time(have been doing it since I first bought a droid 1.
in the gmail app you go menu>accounts>add account. Both can be set to sync, and you can send mail from either
is google gonna ever give us the option of disabling conversion view or enabling it in their mobile app just as they did with desktop email

[Q] Logging out of Play Store

Hi,
I was doing a favour for someone who asked me to root their Kindle and install the Play Store.
I did this and I tested it with my own gmail account and everything is working perfect. However, now I want to give them back their tablet, but I can't see where I can remove my account/logout from the Play Store. Obviously, giving them back the tablet with my account logged in is out of the question.
I tried going into Applications and clearing the app's data. I also tried wiping the data in Titanium Backup. Neither worked.
Can anyone help me here?
Thanks.
Do you have 2-Step Verification enabled in your Gmail account? You could try revoking access to the device from your account management page I think.
No, I don't have 2 step verification.
Would it be worth my time to enable it just so this persons Play Store won't log me in? Surely there must be a way I can remove the Play Store, reinstall it, and let them log in?
When I was installing it initially, the steps told me to log in, and then continue with further steps where it upgrades the Play Store to the latest version and does some other stuff. If I could delay those steps, or put them into a shell script to be run from the terminal once this person logged in, then I suppose that would be good too.
Thanks.
Had this problem on a cheap tablet that I got play store on for a friend, add another account (theirs) then you can remove yours

Hi,
Thanks but that doesnt work either. The problem is that the actual "Accounts and Sync" menu isnt in the settings. The only indication I have of my account is in the Play Store app, when you go into Menu and Accounts. Its related to the locked down version of the Kindle OS I think.
It looks like I might have to wipe the whole tablet and put on a custom ROM.
Actually. I think I figured out a way of doing this.
I had my gmail account setup to use the Play Store, and had Gmail synced apparently. Then I added a second account but I hadnt opened the Gmail app yet. When I did, it asked me to setup sync for my second account since it was the first time I'd opened Gmail since I added the 2nd one. This gives a link to the default Android "Accounts & Sync" menu, in the form of a button at the bottom of the app.
I was able to go in there and delete my 2 accounts. So it seems we can get into the Accounts menu through a back door in Gmail!
PS, I tried it again to add the 2 accounts and make sure I could reproduce it, but it just went to my Gmail inbox and showed me my emails for my first account. Then I pressed the drop down menu up the top left of the app and it showed my 2 inboxes. I clicked the 2nd one and it then gave me the sync menu buttons again and I could reproduce it, ie delete both my accounts.
Now if only I could get the menu/nav bar to stay on when I don't unlock it straight away after a reboot, then I'd be done!
How did you you added a second account?
Hi, I'm exactly in this same situation.

Possible fix
When I downloaded Google Play onto my fire 10 HD I downloaded 4 apk (Google services framework, Google play services, Google account manager and Google play store)
Once I'd done that I mistakenly logged into Play on the wrong account.
When I went back to the home screen there was a 'Google setting' app icon there.
I tapped that icon and went to 'Google Account - info, security & personalisation', from there if you tap the small arrow at the end of the email address it gives you the option to use another account.
I added the other account and am now able to switch between email accounts.
Hope that helps.

This is quite easy and a two-minute task:
Open Plyastore on your PC/Laptop
Sign in to the play store using the same Gmail ID you want to remove from any device.
Once signed in Navigate to the setting by clicking on the Gear icon on the upper right corner of the screen.
Here you will find all the devices connected to your account.
Simply click and remove the device.
This will help you to remove the device or logout of the play store remotely.
This is the easiest and most effective way.
As @eoinzy & @Chotkach mentioned (Thank you)
1. Install Gmail app (Don't question it. Just do it)
Go to setting.
Manage account and here you can easily remove Play Store information.

How to get INBOX working without invites

Gmail's new Inbox app is pretty awesome, but it's still invite-only. If you have a friend that's using inbox, you can get access on your own device with their help—even if they don't have any invites to give out.
y of WonderHowTo, is simple:
1)Download Inbox on your phone through its app store, either Android or iOS. You won't be able to sign in with your account, since you don't have access, but download it anyway.
2)Have your friend log into their Google Account to your phone. For Android, you'll want to do this under Settings > Accounts. On iOS devices, log in through another Google app, like Gmail or Chrome.
3)Open Inbox and, when prompted, choose their account to sign in.
4)Go to Inbox's settings and select "Manage Accounts". Flip the switch for your account to "on". You should now have access to Inbox on your account.
5)Remove your friend's account from your phone. Again, on Android, do this through Settings > Accounts. On iOS, head back to the "Manage Accounts" screen in a Google app, tap "Edit", and delete your friend's account.
After performing this process, your friend's account will no longer be connected to your phone, but you'll still have access to Inbox. According to WonderHowTo, this only works for one degree of separation. That is, if you never officially got an invite to Inbox, you can't repeat this process with other people—only the original invitee can.
Enjoy.. working,just tried it.

For me don' t work
Wouldn't it just be easier to find the flag google toggles when an invitee has been logged in? I'm sure it can't really be that hard.
