Hi, I have an intact z3 compact. It is unrooted, the bootloader is locked, the rom is the stock one and it has no custom recovery. I just wanted to know how to root this device if it is possible. Thanks.
I'm sure there was a forum somewhere with all sorts of posts about how to do this. I'll do some research and get back to you.
This is where you need to be: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343/page141
Make sure you do not unlock the bootloader without backing up your DRM keys. It affects your camera.
You can run prerooted stock roms without unlocking the bootloader. This is a popular one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/rom-slimm-t3359831/page104

Hey there!
I'm about to buy a Xperia Z but I do have a few questions first:
1. Whats the difference between locked and unlocked bootloaders. I mean if I root my Z with locked bootloaders will I be able to flash every Custom Rom or are there Roms which will only be working with unlocked bootloaders?
2. What exactly can the Flashtool do? Is it a bit like ODIN for Galaxy Devices? Does the Z have a Download mode like the Galaxy S3 so I can flash a Stock firmware anytime I want?
Thanks for ur answers.
1- custom roms for locked bootloader are few and limited.
You need unlocked BL to flash custom.kernels,cm,aopk roms....
2-Yes flashtool is same as odin but with many more features, like rooting, unlocking the BL,flashing stock roms.....

Locked BL you can still root but cannot flash custom ROMs (but I'm not 100% sure on that see post above by gm007)
Unlocking the BL you lose DRM keys FOREVER and BE2 won't work anymore (some claim they can still make BE2 work)
FlashtTool can easily flash STOCK ROMs without rooting or unlocking BL.

Before yesterday I had a locked BL and I had a custom rom, you just can't install a custom Kernel when your BootLoader is locked.
Unlocking your BL will cause your drm keys to be lost that's true, but you can save the partition your keys are stored on and you can re-flash the partition to restore the DRM keys. (Did that yesterday) It can be tricky though, Gm007 knows everything about it

Hey,
I just had a thought this morning regarding the situation with Locked bootloader's that can't be unlocked is it possible to flash a stock ftf file which originally allowed the bootloader to be unlocked to a locked phone, if it is possible using this method can someone give me a stock ftf which has the original unlockable bootloader and I will try it.
I hope someone knows the answer to my question
You can flash the FTF, but it will not make a non-unlockable bootloader into an unlockable one. It is not that simple. If it was, don't you think it would be common knowledge and the recommended course of action?

Hi,
I have some questions:
1- I'm completely confused as how custom ROMs like eXistenz have xReality engine or Bravia Engine and they are supposed to be flashed on unlocked boot loaders, I thought unlocking would break the functionality since it destroys the DRM keys.
2- I rooted my device when I was on 4.2.2, now I upgraded my phone to 4.3 official and I lost the root, is it possible to root it again with unlocking and then relock it again without loosing root, I did not install the custom recoveries when I had the chance, stupid me but I have backed up my TA partition at least
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Bump
Have a look in development section, there are a few rooting guides for 4.3. You will need to sort out recovery first though.
With the Bravia question, it only works if your phone bootloader isn't unlocked.
Xperia Z
Thank you but I did not get my answer as how custom roms are using bravia or xreality and how to relock without loosing root
1. Existenz can be flashed on a locked bootloader, therefore BE2 still works.
2. Yes -
- Unlock your bootloader (remember to backup your data and internal SD as both will be wiped during the process).
- Flash DooMLoRD's advanced stock kernel.
- Flash a superuser zip (I use the SuperSu zip direct from Chainfire's site).
- Flash a stock kernel.
- Restore TA backup.
You will then be on 4.3 with locked bootloader and DRM keys intact.

Hi All.
I am new to Sony after having a samsung GS2 for many years.
While I am familiar with the rooting and flashing process for the GS2, I am still getting my head around the Xperia Z1.
From what I can see I need to do the following,.
Root Version.
Backup TA
Unlock Bootloader
Flash CMW Etc
Flash Roms.
I am a little stuck around the Spony version numbers though.
My Z1 is on 4.2.2 and Build no 14.1.g.2.259
Is there a root method for this version, or how can I change to a rootable version?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Hey I followed this guide:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aq9YTlfCgc&feature=youtube_gdata_player
It was the same as on my xz, you first have to downgrade your phone, then you can root it. This guide also upgrades your phone to the latest official 4.3 and installs CWM and TWRP. If you want to install a custom rom, you also have to unlock the bootloader. Before you do that, back up the TA partition. There are plenty of tutorials about unlocking the bootloader on the internet, I suggest you use flashtool because I've unlocked a lot of bootloaders with that and never had any problem.
Another way is to first unlock the bootloader, then install a custom kernel. This also should root the phone.
Good luck!

Thanks for response
With the second suggestion would I be able to backup the TA partition prior to doing this as we need root to do that first don't we?

290 and 136 have chance to be rooted if your bootloader has been unlocked.

Hi Again,
When downgrading to a lower version as shown in the video, does this have any impact on the drm keys stored in the phone, as they wouldnt have been backed up.
Thanks.
Hi,
Guys I need your help to understand this whole root thing and etc.
I do have Xperia SP software version 12.1.A.1.201.
I would like to root it. But to do it I need to unlock bootloader. - Fine, can do it as my status is YES.
but I don not want to loose DRM keys.
If i understand correctly first i have to unlock bootloader and then lock it again (to keep warranty) but first I need to root my phone to keep DRM keys.
But on my software i can't first root it and then proceed with bootloader.
Is there any method to first root the device, then unlock bootloader and keep DRM keys?
Sorry if this sounds stupid but I don't know where to start with it.
Thanks

Downgrade to 4.1.2, root that FW with doomlord's method, install recovery and flash a prerooted rom. You don't need unlocked bootloader for this
