Spent too much time on that learning the ins and outs of Android rooting and unlocking bootloader. Also had one of the best keyboards ever made Imo. If they ever make a HTC G3 with like a 4.5-5.2 inch screen with keyboard and flagship specs I'd be blown away and an instant buy!

Sony Ericsson X10a (AT&T variant). Good and bad memories with that phone. It took FOREVER to get updated from 1.6 to 2.1, never got the update to 2.3 that the unlocked models got, and eventually deteriorated into having random reboots until it finally died. Got a warranty replacement (had to fight to get one), and the replacement eventually suffered the same fate. But it was my first smartphone, was fun to play games on, and took some decent pictures.
Galaxy S i9000. Had a great community back when I was using it, still going strong but a little slow with newer android updates.
It took me a long time to purchase my first smartphone. I was honestly thinking about getting iphone back in 2011. Good thing I didn't, my first ever android and first smarthphone EVA was Motorola Droid Bionic. It was the BEST phone android phone at the time of purchase, haha JK it was NOT. But I liked it. It had 2.2.23 gingerbread, decent camera, 4.7 inch screen and I had the lapdock for it as well. I was also really spoiled, the dev support was fantastic. I upgraded to 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwhich, root was reached, recovery with safestrap and TONS of roms to flash. It was a great 2 years with the Droid Bionic, but I needed to catch up with the times. I needed a better, faster more capable phone. But The Droid Bionic was my first android phone.

I've had the note 3 and note 5, while my buddy had the note 2 and my co worker as well. How was the very first note?
I bought a second hand Nexus S in the Galaxy Nexus / Nexus 4 days. I was very late in the Android game. I tried and hoped that Nokia could make Meamo/Meego a succes. But I gave up around that time.

Hello all,
So I know some of the developers are moving on to better phones... and I wonder, after the nexus one which has been an awesome phone, whats the latest greatest everyones going to (I use Att)
You didn't give a time frame for your upgrade but if you can hold out then the S2 looks like an excellent option. It's the first phone that I feel upgrades everything about the N1 and will likely be as popular as the original Galaxy S with the devs. It does lack NFC and has the same resolution as the N1 but it'll probably be years before NFC is commonplace (In the UK at least) and the Super Amoled Plus screen has been called one of the best, if not the best displays out there by several reviews (Check out engadgets review).
The LG 2X (or G2X) is gaining a bit of momentum, although the stock software is pretty bad.
I'd definitely gofor the galaxy S2. Thats like the phone of the millennia.
Sent from my non-Apple device via XDA App
The S2 has NFC really (point of correction)
And to add to that, i have been using N1 since the month it came out and to be frank the only phone worthy of being an upgrade to my N1 is the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Not in the UK it doesn't
I don't want to go any bigger, so probably Desire S unless the Galaxy S2 Mini is almost exactly the same with the only difference being 3.7" vs 4.3" screen.
i didn't make up my mind between htc sensation or samsung g s2
I'd definitely go for the s2. I see more value for money on that.but that's just me.

Agreed, the Galaxy S II is the first phone that has looked liked a worthwhile upgrade to the N1. I've been a little tempted by it, however I've decided I can hold out a bit longer - for the possibility of a Nexus 3 in December. I'm hoping it'll be as revolutionary as the N1, and not a complete disappointment like the Nexus S.
I wouldn't really call the Nexus S a disappointment.... just more of a Nexus One.5; upgraded touch pannel, NFC, better GPU/CPU. It just wasn't a huge leap like the the previous ~500ghz phones to the Snapdragon.
I wanted the Sensation because I don't like the way Samsung has treated their upgrades, but if the SGSII is hackable enough I might concider it over the Sensation.
I'm thinking HTC Pyramid/Sensation...if it can be unlocked & rooted
I'm a vanilla stock Nexus guy, so I just splurged on a Nexus S. If it weren't for an accident, I probably would've hold out for the 3rd Nexus iteration or Samsung Galaxy S II.
Any phone with dual core and gingerbread in it
anything dual core
Seriously there is no point going with the Desire S or anything like that.
You're getting the same CPU except die shrinked. OK GPU is better but I'm not big on touch screen gaming so its moot for me, of course you may think otherwise. Screen, battery, functionality all similar to Nexus, you won't see much difference.
Basically you want a major bump, and that means atrix, SGS2, sensation, LG2x.
atrix is bootloader locked, ditto sensation. not sure about LG2x but it only has 512RAM, otherwise looks like a good phone. But Samsung Galaxy S2 looks like the runaway best option - you get a vastly better screen, better battery, cpu and gpu that smokes, also ships with gingerbread, very popular so lots of dev support, can't lose. Only issue is cost, gigantor size and availability - apparently there are 3 million preorders/backorders!!!!
In all honesty if SGS2 is not for you, I'd just wait. I'm doing that with my nexus one, I figure a 3.7 or 4" superphone is round the corner (not too keen on 4.3 gigantic size either), or I'll just save a few hundred bucks, in meantime the nexus is still trucking along doing everything I need it to do (push emails, SIP, music, light browsing, google sauce integration, gps, and oh yeah it works as a phone lol).
Is the new Sammy only coming out for ATT or is there also a Tmo version?
first time nexus one user. like it but i see y they made the s. had the g2x took it back, and i have the xperia play on the way. might go with the sensation on the 6th. they cracked the thunderbolt so they will crack that as well. ill keep selling and trading till than.
I have the GS1 and I am for sure getting a GS2. I have had all the droids except for the charge and the galaxy line is far superior to any other Droid. The only other phone I would get is the next Nexus. The rumor is its going to be the Nexus R.

Nexus R? How about Nexus 3!
I've Bern full out nexus one proponent. But the galaxy s2 is finally what interests me to upgrade. Its very future proof, comes with up to date android 2.3.3, minimal skin, and unlocked boot loader. It ticks every box more than any other upcoming phone.
Guys I am seriously considering this phone, but I am seeing some similarities (of the bad kind) between this and the g2x.
Now Im not talking meltdown, but this is an lg phone and from tha same optimus family.
I was with the g2x from day one and am fully versed on the bs lg pulled with us on that phone.
Are there any current owners who had the g2x and are starting to see trends for this?
Also is any one using this on at&t?
Would really like some honest opinions comparing the two( i dont mean spec wise because yeah hd screen quad core etc of course its hardware wise better)
IM picking up an lg hd nitro as a backup phone ( yes its true im a phone junkie and my habbit seems to be getting worse...) because I switch phones...a lot..and tired of going with out a phone for a week or so.
Any ways, I did try to search for similar threads but came up with nothing.
Lg claimed this screen was the shizzle of all phones....opinions? (yes I know there is a phone screen thread but may as well include this who knows maybe someone else was wondering the same)
How has lg been with this phone support wise, releasing drivers(i know I know stupid question and right now youre asking if im trolling you), I see there are some issues with root.
ANyways thanks guys.
No issues with root, we have root already.
Now we are working on cracking/bypassing the bootloader lock so we can flash ROMs.
LG Optimus 4X was the first phone as far as I know to be shown with CM10 running. We also have one of the Virtuous Devs with one of these now who will be helping with CM10, so I'm really excited about the ROMs this phone will see.
In terms of support we have already had 2 or 3 three updates since launch, but tbh, I'm not too worried as once we get the bootloader/recovery sorted I'll be loading CM10 onto my phone, which already seems to be better supported than my Sensation ever was with them.
I own a g2x, I know all its ills. But still decided for o4x. I don't regret. It looks good. Hardware matches feature to feature with s3 and ones with better pricing at least a couple of hundred dollars less. LG hardware is more robust than HTC and Samsung as per my experience. Also not to forget O2x/g2x got very strong developers. They are already warming up for o4x.

I have had LG OP2x which had many problems.
I had exactly same worries as you have now when I thought about buying this phone.
But this phone runs flawlessly and I haven't noticed any of the problems that was on the 2x.
The 2x started to lag and freeze about 60 hours of uptime, while this phone have reached 200 hours of uptime without any complains.
The only thing I wish was better in this phone is the camera and in my opinion the picture quality from the 2x's camera was better.
It is a great phone
Best regards

My only concern on similarity between O2X and O4X is they both use Tegra.
Powerful chip, but it seems difficult to develop, lack of support from maker and handset vendor itself.
I hope it will be much easier now for Tegra3.

Ok so here is my longish answer to your question
1. I always loved Android but the early phones like the Galaxy S and the Mytouch were laggy and buggy.
2. When the G2x came out it was a step forward. But it was buggy as hell. It was superb when it worked but it didn't work that often. The Weapon ROM fixed things but it still had issues.
3. The Galaxy SII was the first stable, reliable Android that I remember.
4. The Galaxy Nexus was the first phone that could rival the smoothness of the Iphone. Finally, Android did it. There could be no more criticism of Android being slow and buggy or laggy. Jelly Bean made it even better.
5. Then the Galaxy S3 and HTC One X upped the ante even more. These phones are the top two phones in the world.
6. So, I got a LG 4x HD the other day because I got a good deal. So because of everything I typed above I was a little worried that LG would make another buggy phone. Well there is nothing to worry about. This phone is smooth. Very smooth. It rivals the Galaxy S3 and the One X in every way. It is not laggy, it hasn't slowed up or rebooted on me once and I have been using nonstop for four days.
But it is now also my favorite phone ever. I just like the way it looks better than Galaxy S3, Xperia S and the HTC One X. I like the physical buttons at the bottom too and the full size sim card slot, removable battery and Micro SD card slot. I have used all the top phones and this is just as good, ask me what is better between the LG 4X HD and the Galaxy S3 and I would say you are splitting hairs, they are pretty equal. Maybe the Galaxy S3 is a little more polished but the difference is negligable. The screens are close but I choose the 4x's screen by a tad. It really is a beautiful screen. I can't think of a single complaint I have about the LG 4x HD. It is a pleasure to use and I can't stop playing with it.
I can't wait til T-Mobile does their refarming in the US so I can use it on 3g/4g too. Wifi is fine for now though.
My score for the LG 4X is a 10 out of 10. It isn't hyperbole either. I put the Apex Launcher on it, switched things to my liking and now I am in love with this phone.

I owned an O2x before this. I guess ain't those kind that would notice any small bugs but the O2x was kinda buggy without custom Rom. After buying the 4x, I thought I would regret but I didn't.. it was much better than I have ever expected of an LG phone/hardware/software. Now I really looked forward to an unlocked bootloader and more development. Not forgetting upgrades from LG.

Just curious why those here chose this phone. And which phone did you come from? Was it the price? Carrier? Size? Just genuinely curious. I've even thought of getting one myself to play around with which is why I'm here.
Well yes price was definitely the thing to consider. When I bought this phone, I had very little knowledge of android. I just went with the intention of buying a phone around 11k Rupees. I looked at everything (even blackberry!!). Every phone had its pros and cons. I was a little wary about the 600Mhz processor but then this was the only one with ICS pre-installed. I even considered Micromax Canvas 2 (Indian Brand) but I rejected that because the screen was too big. Specs-wise it would beat the crap out of desire C with a lesser price tag. I wasn't even remotely thinking about rooting at that time Then finally I decided to go with this. Now after all this time, I'm really happy with this phone and I consider myself lucky that I stumbled upon this wonderful site called XDA. If it wasn't for Xda, I would still be thinking. "What if I had bought another phone?"
For me it was either a galaxy ace or desire c...
i buy it for used only at work !
It was between the desire c and Samsung galaxy Q (Canada only) for me. Then I face palmed when the galaxy ace 2X came (Canada only) because it was AMAZING and I would have got it if I waited like 3 more weeks before buying a phone. (The ace 2X is what SeannyM bought , he Canadian like me )

my choice was dito same
Changed my choice at the last momrnt when came to know desirec is shipped with ics
My defy mini needed fixing so wanted a cheap temp phone. Desire c or galaxy ace...tried galaxy ace and it was poo and broke in 1 week so reluctantly got the desire c.
Really like it. With cm10 and a few tweaks it just works. Use this as my main now.
i bought nexus 7 tablet so i don't need high-end cellphone
and before desire c i had xperia sola, arc s, htc hd2, incredible s, iphone 3gs, and more
The main reason for me was the small price tag.I got it for 160€ which was the highest price I could pay :S
The second reason was the small size (yes, the fact that all mobilephones are getting bigger and bigger is really grinding my gears) and there were roms (which weren't that good as I thought)
I came from an old Sony Ericsson Cedar which was my escape from my ****ty Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. But the Desire C really didn't dissapoint me
For me it was build quality, screen size (4" display devicers are just to bulky for me to carry around) low-ish price tag, and of course vast support on this exceptional community! I didn't even bother to buy sim-free one, got it locked to another carrier on a discount, unlocked it in a jiffy.
Went straight ahead and picked custom rom for it, Sensational V3 from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320080 and flavored it with an 800 Mhz Prometheus kernel.
I must say I'm impressed! Coming from galaxy 5, on which plethora of various roms were installed, this one is truly a wonderful piece of work.:highfive:
In fact, I was so darn impressed, that I've finally decided to register on the board, after lurking around for years..
I really like this phone but it is just not enough for me!( going for a. N4)

Only good thing about it is the price. I used the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2x and there was lag everywhere. Unlocking the home screen, opening system apps, even the settings were laggy! The cameras are decent, and the 4in screen is OK. I would have chosen the Desire C over the Sammy because of its build quality and its community. I knew that the Sammy was sold in select countries so it wouldn't be supported by XDA, unlike the Desire C. Its what I look for in phones now lol

I got a HTC One mini. It started to break on me after 3 months! Took HTC 3 more months to admit it was their fault. Then got a HTC One as a replacement, but after the crap service I had from HTC I sold that and came back to my 4 year old Galaxy 1 which is still working great! And compared to higher spec phones is still a beast! Long live the Galaxy 1!!!
Also S1 has a huge dev section and still kicking with some good devs pumping out some great work!
If I do upgrade again I'm thinking Galaxy S2 for the extra RAM. Really cheap to get off eBay. Spending 400+ £ for the latest phone doesn't make sense unless your rich or want to play the latest 3D games..

I am still running my S1 as my backup phone. It is 4 years old. I am using it now, as my main phone is broken. I have installed CyanogenMod 11.2 M9. It is a little slow, but still works fine.
im using a galaxy s i9000 too. its internal memory is dead, but i installed the ROM using a external memory card. everything works fine. running kitkat 4.4.2 . i love the i9000 display.
Use it as my wife's main phone. Running MIUI. Still works very well.
Started to use GS again. Bought Huawei Ascend p6 and its gps is worse . Dont know how they managed to do that. Huaweis kitkat roms are horribly buggy too, and thats why I switched back to the good old GS1. Might go back to p6 if they release a real update to kitkat. Got bored of the upgrade downgrade cycle.
GS1 CM nightlies work much better, no crippling bugs so far. And ive been using it for years.
I've started using my SGS phone again.. After installing Mackay ROM, everything feels much smoother.
About to update to KitKat now
I still use it as my main phone. I want to add the galaxy s2 or s3 depending on how one can run android L on them.
Honestly I stopped using it in April because I bought myself one SGS3 (rocking!!!) and gave it to my son. But it is running 4.3 and the kid is happy as ever with it. I had it since it was released and love it since then!
It is still my only phone, but the only reason I still do so is because I transitioned to small tablets (both Nexus 7 and now the Galaxy Tab S 8.4) as my main mobile computing devices. The only thing I do on my phone is calling as well as occasionally chatting (even though I do that mainly on my tablet too) and it provides data for the wifi only tablet.
Even with that limited use I gonna buy a used Galaxy S3 LTE (or better) before this year ends. The S1 is just to damn slow for me and a little more screensize will probably make me chat a bit more on the phone instead of taking the tablet with me all the time (even though the later will remain my main device).
Is my spare wheel
Just curious to see if anyone is making the jump now that the new nexus' have been released for pre-order. If so what was your main reason? Easy root? More development? Hardware? Software? And if not are you staying with Samsung after the lock down they put on there phones? I myself have owned several nexus phones before and they have always been great, my only issue is there is always some hardware spec I'm missing, usually the camera. Right now with this variation I feel the 5.7 inch screen is a little much for me and know ois for the camera on the nexus p and the nexus x is the right size but way to underwhelming as far as specs go.

Yeah man after having several nexus devices I switched to the lg g3 then this and I miss the development possible with the nexus. I don't know if anyone from the att forums ever pops in on a nexus development thread but it's a virtual playground of new roms, kernels, and useful mods. Don't get me wrong I'm appreciative of anyone putting in work on the att variants, it's just nowhere near the support a nexus gets! If they would just come out with a soild camera and the premium specs the 6p has, I would've preordered also

I am cant wait to get it. I doubt im ever coming back to samsung =(
I'm getting swayed myself. My notifications, device wake don't work unless with CM locker and then it's still not consistent. Then there are the gremlins here and there but there are some that really bothers me.
Plus I'm tired of my Nexus friends getting the new upgrades all the time.
I know how you feel, especially considering if I had a nexus right now I would have the marshmallow update already. Unfortunately I'm still stuck on 5.0.2 because I don't wanna lose root! By the time we see marshmallow it'll be on the SGS7! I sweat if tmobile gets it together with a consistent lte signal Im done done done with AT&T

Samsung makes very nice phones but i really want more flexibility. I have already ordered a Nexus 6P and i hope i am going to like it. I am only worried because it is bigger than my edge.
If its your first nexus you will love it, theres almost too much flexibility! Youll find yourself messing with everything lol. The only thing is you dont get the gimmicky stuff as much as you do with manufacturers like samsung and htc. Some people miss that. The size difference, thats another story and partially why I have held off until I can hold one and see in hand the difference. I had the LG G3 and that is about as big as I think I can comfortably go with a phone.
Last time i had a samsung was the note 2.. i hated that phone so much i traded it for a optimus g pro. loved that phone still have it today. i swore i wouldn't go back to samsung. then the s6 appeared. 64 bit cpu exynos was destroying the benchmarks. smaller more efficient cpu manufacturing, awesome screen, glass, metal. smaller more efficient battery and finally tw had less bloat.damn made me change my mind. i had to pre order....... i have hated this phone since month 3 of owning. i hate this samsung. cant wait to get rid of it. i gave my htc m8 for this crap. m8 never lagged like this pos and battery was better. and the phone seemed faster idk how or why. samsung made me hate samsung. so yeah im getting a nexus just can't decide which. waiting on the reviews. not making the same mistake of pre ordering
Yeah man I know, that's why I skipped the s5. I've owned the sgs2, Samsung galaxy nexus, Sgs3, and sgs4. I got in on the sgs4 while there was still a bootloader exploit, however once i saw they locked it down in a way where the later versions could only use safestrap I was like, no way will I ever come back to Sammy. Skipped the sgs5 and went with the LG G3 but was lured back by the specs on this phone!! Samsung always has the hardware I want in a phone, best cpu, great screen, good camera, couple cool little gimmicks to play with... but this allowing manufacturers to lock down bootloader and essentially kill the dev scene is really pissing me off. I have always bought my wife HTC phones when I upgrade because I can never decide between 2 phones, her m8 still running as smooth as day she got it, I didn't even unlock and rom it like I usually do. I just cannot find the perfect storm of cutting edge specs that I want and development to go with. Sucks!!!

The reasons I like Samsung phones is their hardware. Great camera, screens, better memory configurations, and lately the design of the phone. If all that was put into the nexus then it'd be an easy decision. Unfortunately the nexus lacks that. Idk what my next phone is going to be after this debacle.
