I just got a Nexus 6 (my friend sold it to me for less than 200 bucks, I bought it because I know it's in good conditions since he takes well care of his stuff) and I realized that the USB port it's a "little" different because when I try to connect a USB cable, it doesn't fully fits and it gets disconnected very easily.
I'd like to know if this is a common thing about Nexus 6 and if there's a "special" USB cable that I should use. My fried didn't give the stock charger because he lost it, instead he gave three covers.
Currently I charge the N6 with my Z2 USB and charger.
So please tell me, do I need to buy a special USB and charger that fully fits in the USB port?
Also, I noticed another thing, and the bottom of the screen I (barely) see a little line that is a bit (just a bit) more bright than the rest of the screen.
Is this an "issue" of the Nexus 6?
I gave to say that I changed the ROM, modified DPI, reduced navigation bar size and other things, but I really doubt that's the problem.
I'll attach some pictures so you can understand those issues.
Hope someone can help me. Thanks is advance.

For the charging port issue. No, its not common nexus 6 problem. And you got it from your friend so maybe the cable he used as it wasn't stock messed up the port and now its damaged.
And for the brighter nav bar and status bar too most probably. Its burn in common amoled issue. You can say that its common with nexus 6 screens. Mine has some pretty bad burn in on nav and notification bar too. I bought a used device too. Got it with burn in. Luckily its not getting bad than it already is. Been using it for over 2 months now. So id say get your port fixed and enjoy this beautiful phone. Cheers
What kind of problem could the USB port have? I don't understand how it could get damaged by using another USB cable.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I said maybe. Because there no specific cable for nexus 6 and i tried different chargers, other than stock. All worked fine.
I had the same feeling since I got my N6 new in February last year, you can wiggle the usb cord side to side and it sometimes feels like it catches while it's offcenter. I haven't found a specific cable that doesn't do it I've tried an old Moto Razr cord, N7 cord, N5 cord, N6 cord, Samsung 5th gen cord, PS4 controller cord, random cord with a little chrome dot on it all wiggly. Very shoddy compared to my Nexus 5 I had before. I figured it'd break eventually but is hasn't thankfully *Knock on wood*
So you still have this issue?

I read once that a dirty USB port (dust, fabric buildup, etc.) can cause this problem with the cable.
I would suggest you clean it thoroughly (maybe with a plastic or wood toothpick to avoid damaging it)
I have the same problem with my USB port , I got my Nexus 6 about a year ago, and even the stock cable is loose, cleaning the port does help a bit. I have not found a solution.

TYVM this video helped me fix my loose port
mine wiggle side to side but charge ok, should I bother by it? try insert scotch tape and fish nothing out, looks clean,
are all Nexus 6 usb port wiggle side to side?
Just to give another perspective. My Nexus 6 started to have USB port problem last couple of months. Didn't drop it and used only the USB cable that comes with the phone most of the time. Long story short. Eventually things gotten worse, tried every remedy I can find in the internet but nothing works. Gave up when it won't charge even when I tilt the cable to the side, went to get the USB port replaced around $50. Now I can use all the cables i bought when new cable would only charge fine for a few days.

I wanted an adapter that plugged in to the micro USB port with OTG capability & just had a microSD slot on the other end. However, I couldn't find one, so I set out to make one. I took an micro USB to USB adapter and modified it to be OTG capable and then plugged in the smallest USB microSD adapter I could find. Now I have a nice little adapter that I can plug in without having it flopping around like a tail on the end of a cable. Just thought I'd share my project.
I used information from this page to hook up the wiring correctly:

Wish I'd have found that when I was looking for it, & I did look quite a bit. Anyway, thanks for the link, I just ordered a backup!
Does anyone have the balls to try to make a y-cable and test it?
Head 1: MicroUSB for tablet.
- All cables connected with ID connected to ground for OTG.
Head 2: Female USB (power only)
- Only black and red power cables connected.
Head 3: Female USB (power and data)
- All 4 cables connected
What we hopefully should receive is the possibility to charge the tablet while having storage mounted, plus have the USB devices powered by the power cable instead of the tablet.
I don't have the Nexus 7 myself yet, else i would have tried by now (not available here yet).
I need something like this cause i wan't to replace the screen in my car with this tablet. But since i want to replace the current screen which is mounted inside the dashboard, i wan't to be able to charge while using external storage, since it won't be too easy to tage the tablet in and out all the time.
Question is just if Nexus 7 allow us to use USB as host while charging? If not, could that be kernel related?
Hope someone got the nerves to try this out

Unfortunately there is apparently a several week wait for it.
Delivery: Estimated between Wed. Aug. 8 and Tue. Aug. 21
It appears several of the USB-OTG cables being sold are shipped from Asia and have multi week shipping delays.

You'd need to mess with the kernel to keep it from turning on the Vbus supply and disabling charging while in host mode. Otherwise I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I've searched and never seen an actual 'buyable' product linked on the forums so if this is a dup, I apologize.
Anyone try one of these and see if you can have your Nexus in host mode and charge at the same time?
Is the only option for the female Micro USB port to bring more charge to a usb device plugged in and not to bring charge
to the Nexus itself?
Two scenarios would make this ideal for me:
1.) using my usb xbox controller to play games yet still keeping my tablet charged
2.) using a usb thumb drive to play a movie while still keeping my table charged
I think this would be pretty cool if it worked but I don't know the technical details on if it can be done with our Nexus 7's:

OTG and Charging is mutually exclusive, the OTG cable triggers the USB controller to send power out to a device, not receive power.
the pogo docks on the bottom of the device are also impossible to charge from as the nexus 7 has only been given one charging circuit, and that is the same one that OTG disables.
The only way to achieve something like this would be a physical battery hack where you splice in a charging circuit direct to the battery, without frying the phone maybe some unidirectional resistors, so that it can be simultaneously charged whilst powering the device.
I'm 99% certain of this information, and this is not to say someone might hack a kernel together one day
you might be able to install one of them batteries you can just set it on a charging pad and it will charge

Wrong. https://github.com/teamhacksung/and...mmit/4c1c965b168bc4488ef66889e1c8933bc1b3de46 for an example on Galaxy S2/Note
As to whether the adapter linked is a proper OTG ACA (they're VERY hard to find) and whether the grouper supports OTG ACA is unknown. It's something a kernel developer can probably implement.
Thanks Entropy512, I can see it working on other devices, that gives me hope... I might rig something up myself now, I've wanted to take a cheap usb keyboard plastic leather cover, and build in an extra battery, card reader and usb hub, now this might be theoretically possible

I can confirm that simply splicing a standard OTG cable into the port and plugging in a power cord will not work. I thought I'd utilize the empty socket from where the rear camera was supposed to go, and try to fit the OTG-to-microSD set-up inside of the Nexus. I bought a salvaged USB/headphone port from a damaged Nexus off of Ebay for $1 and the smallest microSD adapter I could find. With the use of a ribbon cable from an old laptop, some trimming, and some REALLY careful soldering I was able to make it work... sorta. Stickmount sees the card and everything runs great, until you plug in a power cord. Then, it disables the microSD adapter, and even though Stickmount says it's there, no files are visible. Also, the Nexus won't charge with this arrangement.
It might work with a different set up, but simply mimicking the OTG cable will not allow a Stickmounted volume and when the charger is plugged in.
(BTW - To make everything fit, I had to use a Dremel to grind away some of the mid-frame area around the rear camera space. It's a tight fit, but keep in mind that until you have a spare mid-frame, like I do, you'll obviously void your warranty.)

It's a nice method to use in a couple of years your old Nexus 7 as a seedbox
Just thought I'd give other Nexus 4 users a heads up about using this charger (it works, don't worry, just has some caveats). I got the charger today and was excited to start using wireless charging so I plugged everything in and put my phone on the charger. It started charging... and then stopped... and then started charging... and then stopped... and then the light started blinking on the charger (indicating a charging problem). I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I tried a few positions and some worked for a little longer than others, but I kept running into the same problem. I couldn't find any posts complaining about trouble or issues with the charger though so I decided to keep investigating (and didn't see any posts about anyone actually using the dt900 with the nexus 4).
Then I realized the phone was sliding ever so slowly off the charger (by now I think everyone knows how easy it is for this phone to slide off even 'flat' surfaces). I guess any movement at all really messes up the charging. For now I just threw an upside-down mousepad over the charger, which has stopped the phone from sliding. Wireless charging now seems to work as expected. Overall it seems pretty flexible with regards to position, and it charges even without direct contact (and I'm not using a thin mousepad either), but I guess even barely perceptible motion really messes it up.
tl;dr charging works, but only if you prevent the phone from moving at all.

I got mine from Verizon's online store, though they only have the white and black versions.
I want to know how much google plans on selling the charging orb. The price on the nokia charger is around what i was expecting a wireless charger to cost. The nokia charger looks better IMO then the nexus orb.
Hmmm... I'll have to try this method with my JBL PowerUp. I'm having the same disconnect problems. It's really upsetting since I payed $300 for it hopefully it works. I'll wait until I get my rear screen protector. That should add some grip. If not, I'll try adding grip to the charger using another screen protector, or a gadget pad that I have for my dashboard.
Edit: this method did not work for my JBL
I still have the same issues of disconnecting every 3 seconds. I might have to return it and invest in a different wireless charger or wait for the orb. Then I'll have to get a separate nfc speaker. :/

The LG pad works great on the N4, only annoying thing is that the LG charger beeps when you put the phone on it. Gets annoying after a while.
If you turn your phone off it will charge fully with no blinking lights from the charger.

You can also add two rubber bands to the charger to make it stick. Works perfect!
I also have the DT-900 but i feel that it charges very slowly. Could it be due to the low output of 750mA?

Yes it's because it's only 750mA. The USB provided with the Nexus 4 is 1200mA.

I also have the DT-900 but i feel that it charges very slowly. Could it be due to the low output of 750mA?

I have the dt-900 and my nexus 4 has a TPU case. I tried a ton of times to get it to work and it would always stop after a while and charge really slowly when it did. is the solution really this simple? The mousepad keeps it charging while the friction between my case and the charger couldn't?
I'll have to give this a shot.

Any universal micro USB connector dock should work. We just need to search for one that has adjustable micro USB, so that it fits our SP comfortably.
THis might probably work:

Well the phone has been out for only 2 months and also considering all other sony phones (made within 2 years) have docks I would say just wait and see. The Sony Xperia SP also has micro usb to hdmi capabilities.
Here is a link on google shopping with some docking stations that may be usable
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=xperia%20sp%20dock&rlz=1C1CHFX_enGB529GB529&um=1&hl=en&biw=1241&bih=640&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=iw&ei=u7LzUdTUEM66hAf6xoG4BA#q=xperia+sp+dock&rlz=1C1CHFX_enGB529GB529&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ei=ybLzUfvxG4mChQeu7oHoAQ&ved=0CAsQ_AUoAw&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.49784469%2Cd.ZG4%2Cpv.xjs.s.en_US.MpiVkF51mpA.O&fp=4b0597517e617418&biw=1241&bih=640
Hope it helps

I'd advise you to search for "dock m35h" on all the Chinese sites! Though I'm in no way affiliated too DX.com; you could hit up the next link (even cheaper)!
http://dx.com/p/desktop-charging-cradle-usb-to-micro-usb-cable-set-for-sony-xperia-sp-m35h-black-242820
So as always, first check if our Chinese friends have made something for you!
I have bought this same dock for my SP, bought it from ebay for 10 dollars (free shipping), Overal quality is ok, dock is very light. Docking the phone is somewhat not that easy. My phone has a total body skin (skinomi). Because of the skin the phony is a little bit to thick for the dock. I removed the inner part of the dock for a better fit. But docking the phone can sometimes be a hassle the micro usb pin on the dock is a little bit wobbly.
For 10 dollar it is ok.
I just ordered one of those from Deal Extreme for the lulz, we'l see how it goes...

post your reviews after reciving
New guy here, just got my SP last week. I ordered one of those docks form Deal Extreme as well, will post some pics and review when it gets here.
I may try making my own as well, as I'd like to have a couple more (at work and night table).
Hi guys.
I'm from Poland and I want to look for a Dock for my SP or make it by myself.
But. I wonder how it really work. I have seen - dont know exactly that was on SP or other android device - that system can recognize if device is connected to charger or dock station. Is there any "special" signal to do it??
TBH, I don't see the value of having a docking station; after all, the microUSB is on top left side instead of on the bottom.
I myself use a mini tripod, connecting the USB using a standard MicroUSB cable.

1. You can put it on the shelf. You don't have your device to lay down always near your PC.
2. Since microUSB is on top left side I have large problem with this. When you are left handed than ok. But now I have my phone on right side of my laptop with mouse and cup of coffe. Perfect combination
3. Look pretty well.
4. You can easily use it as Photo Frame (looks awesome)
5. You can easily use it as music player (with one more small cable)
6. You can easily use it as beautiful watch
7. And once again. It looks awesome on the TV shelf, not another lay-down-anywhere-phone
rgullyt and
For me is having it upright instead of laying flat on the desk, must better to see and use. I use my SP to listen to music all day at work and a dock would be a much better solution for me. Also, you can use one on your night table as an alarm clock/nighttime charger. I ordered two but maybe should have gotten at least one more. May order another one after they arrive and I see how they work out.

I guess it won't fit the phone with a case right?

That's the one I ordered from DX but after ordering they said that it was backordered, so I cancelled my order and picked one up on eBay. Haven't arrived yet but more than likely the same unit.
From my understanding there is a removable insert in them that you take out if you have a case on the phone, is this correct Steph?
Hey guys,
Does anyone has a loose connection to the phone?
Lately I've been having some issues with the phone connecting to the charger and my car head unit(this one is driving me insane as I always getting kicked out of android auto) and I noticed that the cable moves quite a bit side to side.
At first glance I can't see any debris in the usb port and cables and the port on the phone looks the same as day 1...
Do you guys have any suggestions?

USB-C ports seems prone to get filled with lint. Just power the phone off and carefully pick it out with a needle, there's probably much more than you think or can see. I've already had 2 phones with USB-C connector and it's a common occurrence, just clean it and it's good to go again.
Hey guys,
Just got another phone from warranty and the USB port seems different, can you guys post some photos of your usb ports?
I'm asking 'cause I read some reports that there was a desing flaw with the usb port.
I had one of the 1st phones btw, is there any way we can check production batch or something like that?
Thanks

Those photos are from the new phone 'cause they couldn't provide a solution in the 30 days after I give them the phone for repair.
I forgot to take some pictures before send the phone to repair...
Hi,
These are some pictures of my phone. I have sent it out for warranty based on the same issues.
I cannot seem to notice any difference between your new/replaced port and mine... ?

I have the same problem! I've already sent the device but unfortunately the problem occurs after about 2 months again. It's not as bad as it was before I sent it in but it starts so slowly again. I wrote today with Nokia Support and they will contact me via email. I'll keep you updated on what's coming out. This problem is more common in any case. Unfortunately!

If it starts to happen again to me I'll try to get my money back/get another phone.
This might be the worst usb-c implementation so far...

Unfortunately, I have to agree. For me it is the second time now and therefore I try now to get a new phone or a compromise. But I have to wait until they write to me. After that I can try to clarify everything. I have threatened with a lawyer even if there is no agreement. Therefore I have to write with them by e-mail.
Happened to me, sent it to the centre for repair and now all is good. Hope it doesn't occur again!
This'll be a dealbreaker for me. About to buy this phone for it's looks and battery life but looks like this is issue is common on any batch.
I'm afraid it'll turn to paperweight after warranty expires. (There are no 3rd party techs who know how to repair nokia phones in my area)
I can say on my 7 plus usb type c port is loosy too, kinda, but it works without any problems.

Hi, charging port on Nokia 7 Plus is loose right out of the box.
Here is what all of you can do if if the port is not totaly broken and it won't charge.
- Charge your phone on a flat surface (table) and let the cable laying on the same surface, don't let the cable hang...it will loosen port even more.
- Buy a charging dock. There is no Nokia charging docks, but there is plenty third party charging docks for Nokia 7 Plus, price range 15-25$. The phone, port and cable are fixed when charging on the dock, so it won't be loosen more.
Send to Nokia service only if it's not charging, because after changing the port, everything is the same.
It will eventualy loosen up again, if you are not carefull when charging. I would not want someone to open my phone, because they have to remove front glass and touch screen to get to the port.
Never move your phone while charging. I never used my phone while charging due to rigid charging cable as it might damage the port. After finding this out I don't even move my phone a little while charging.
I wanna say i am in the club. 8 month phone, only charging one side. Really ****ty quality. "Build like a tank" jaaaaaa
Same for me. I can not use my phone while charging
+1 about to bring the phone back until I still have the guarantee
it seems the usb issue is a software issue not HW, because whenever i plug from USB-A to the phone USB C it charges for 2-3 seconds and then stops, i first thought it might be HW, but then i charged it using my Laptop (usb c to usb c), and it fast charges, the i used a usb c plug and it fast charges it, so the issue is it does not take current from the usb A.
please recheck and let me might be wrong and it is HW issue in ur devices.
There's no difference between an usb-a and an usb-c plug, other than it's format... You probably have a bad cable...

believe me, i tried it on 3 different cables all working on my Mate 20x, one is 7 plus original charger and cable, one is mate 20x charger and cable, third is third party high quality charger and cable, all were charging my phone rapidly, but after the 1.4GB update all stopped charging at all (it will say charging then 2 seconds later rapidly charging, then it will stop), however when i try it on USB type c charger it does charge rapidly
