I was looking at these two memory cards online. The evo+ 128gb is around £40 and the ultra 128gb around £33. Out of the two which should I go for putting inside my s7 edge. Which one has better performance and reliability.
both are good, go with scandisk for cheaper price.

and you have this post about microsd.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/accessories/suggestions-microsd-t3321569
I recommend to take SanDisk Extreme Plus UHS-I U3
Don't get the Sandisk Extreme Plus 128gb. It's $200-$300 and has almost zero availability.
If you want to save money and get a fast 128GB microsd card, go with the Samsung EVO+ (i use this in my S7e).
If you want to spend $100, get the Samsung Pro+ 128gb card.
Both Samsung and Sandisk are reliable.
As far as performance of the two cards you listed....
Samsung EVO+ -- READ 82, WRITE 26
Sandisk Ultra -- READ 92, WRITE 19
Get the EVO+. Write speeds are more important than the read speeds, especially if they are higher than 70mb/sec (both are).
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't for a phone the random write speed the more important figure vs. the sequential write speed you listed?
Personally id go with the samsung evo.
Only if you elect to use the Adoptable Storage option in Android 6.0. If not, sequential write speed would be the key field.
Whichever is cheapest at the time of purchase. You'll notice no difference once it's in the phone.
I ended up going with the 128 GB Pro + - can be had for $90. Much higher write speeds than the Evo +. The new 256 GB Evo + might match or even outclass the 128 GB Pro +, but at $250... I'll pass.

Hello. I bought this phone last week and I absolutely love it. I've been searching the forums and can't wait to upgrade Android and install apps. This is my first android phone and I like how it can be customized. Before I do anything, I want to purchase a memory chip for the phone. I want to install and run apps from the chip but unsure of which to get. What size, brand, and class do you recommend? I have a 8gb class 2 from my old phone. Is that good enough? I'm thinking about getting either a 16-32 gb. Thanks.
I have a 8GB Sandisk Class2 for ~12€ from eBay. Works perfectly, even with Apps2SD.
I think a memory card class 4 or higher is reasonable!

I'm using a 16 GB Class 6 (14 GB free memory and 700 MB for Link2SD).
I bought a Class 6 because i heard that there might be some problems with Link2SD/App2SD and Classes less than 6...
I haven't any problems with it -> Ebay 40 €
If you are going to install a custom ROM then I would be careful about using a 32Gb card as I have heard of people having problems with them. As vqt907 has said, I would go for at least a class 4 card.
I have a Kingston 8GB Class 2.
Works very fast, also with app2sd.
16 gig speed 6, with two adapters USB and normal memory card size for 25 pounds from Amazon....works well....d

Ps get sd speed increase from market it's a must.....d
MY ANDROIDSKY
I was considering upgrading my SD card from a class 4 to a class 10, for the speed improvement. So, I first tested my card to see what it's current speed was.
My card is an LD ( class4 8GB, bought off the street in China:
Write: 11.7 MB/s
Read: 18.0 MB/s
If my understanding of speed class correctly, this is class10 speed, not class4.
So I tested my Chinese "Kingston" - mostly likely a "ghost shift" chip, also class4 8GB:
Write 7.1 MB/s
Read 14.7 MB/s
This is class6 speed, not class4.
So, if you buy counterfeit chips in China (or online from China), you can get a class10 chip for very cheap, I paid $13 for my 8GB card. Just test the speed before you buy.
So check the speed of your card before you buy a new one.

16 gb - class 6
best money-performance ratio .
You will not need anything more .
A proper branded Memory card like Sand disk, Transcend, Kingston and so on.
Never get fakes or non-branded ones as a 99% chance of pre broken risk is at your slide (personal experience)
A class 4 or higher would be reasonable.
I've been planning on buying a new sd card since the default 2gb is waaaay to small and I've got a few questions.
My current write/read speeds are 7.0Mb/s~ and 12.6Mb/s - which class is that?
How big is the actual practical difference between let's say, a class 6 and a class 10 card?
look like class 6, class number is write speed in MB/s. btw, there is no reason to buy class 10 duo very slow pc>phone>pc transfer rate. I can get more then 2-3MB/s (cable, wireless)

"SD-Tool" on phone (slower) 16MB write 24MB read
And "H2Testw" on PC which have me the readings. [nVidia USB 2.0 Hi-speed @ 480Mbit/s]
Very nice card ;ooo but only 25 mb ;c
I have obviously bought the slowest SD made, so I want to shop something new before the marshmallow update comes (and I can make it "system memory").
5 write and 12 read is not enough. How high can the z3 go?
128 GB Sandisk SD Card
I bought one of these from Amazon back in October for £49.99:
SanDisk Ultra Android 128 GB microSDXC Memory Card plus SD Adapter up to 80 MB/s, Class 10 [Newest Version]
I did notice a bit of improvement in the transfer speed as I utilse my tablet for quite a bit of downloading with ttorrent.
I've not actually tested the data rates but I did notice that it transfers big files better than lots of little files.
With A1 SD Bench I get 18MB/sec both read and write with a card I found in my dashcam. Not convinced that it's the best I can get.
With only 16 gig onboard and Marshmallow 6 with the possibility to make the SD "internal" memory, I might want to spend a good amount to get the best possible.

Just benchmarked my card and the speeds are worse than yours - Read: 10.54MB/s Write: 8.69MB/s
Mine is the SGP612. Perhaps the bigger the slower with some of the older flash memory such as mine?
I really hope that Android 6 helps.
My card is up to 48mb/s but A1 SD Bench gives 16 read 14 write, idk if android 6 is going to improve the performance since i believe is a hardware limitation
any updates?
Wondering if anyone has updates for this topic. I just ordered a lexar - 1000x microSDXC 64GB UHS-II/U3 and hoping it will work well.
thanks.
Sorry to break it to you, but Sony chose to not support the sd card to internal storage feature.
Marshmallow doesn't help... I get around 14MB/s with an UHS I Samsung Pro.
I want to know too. In PC my card read 79 MB/s, write 22 MB/s but in this tablet it only runs at 12/4 r/w.
I had better performance in Asus K013 at 20/20 and that device was a cheapo low budget.
I got my wife a Moto X4 from Project Fi. She's excited to be able to dump an extensive music collection onto an SD card. We've been using Nexus devices for 5 years or so now, so we've never had to buy a micro SD card.
I assume this is going to work similar to how last year's Moto Z Play worked:
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/indevice_detail/a_id/113319/p/30,6720,9835
I don't see any need to register the SD card as internal storage (which would replace the internal storage. 32 GBs seems more than adequate for apps and photos). So it seems likely that most of the mid range cards on amazon would be fine.
That said, the price drop on some of these cards since I looked last is kind of mind boggling. Both of these 128GB Samsung cards seems like it could function as an internal card if we choose:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073JYC4XM/ref=psdc_3015433011_t2_B0118LR9Z8
Anyone have any experience here that would be useful to know?
I always try to buy memory from the company who actually manufactures the chips, so Samsung and Sandisk are great companies to buy from.
I would also check out this one: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MicroSD-Adapter-MB-ME128GA-AM/dp/B06XWZWYVP. Much faster speeds, low price, and great reviews.
Here are the benchmarks for all 3 chips:
Brand: Samsung
Model: EVO+
Speed Class: U1
UHS: UHS-I
Write / Seq: 22.6
Read / Seq: 91.6
Read / But: 89.2
Write / Ran: 32.4
Rated Read: 80
Rated Write: 20
Brand: SanDisk
Model: Ultra
Speed Class: C10
UHS: UHS-I
Write / Seq: 23.6
Read / Seq: 91.3
Read / But: 90.2
Write / Ran: 27.1
Rated Read: 90
Rated Write: N/A
Brand: Samsung
Model: EVO Select (MB-ME128GA/AM)
Speed Class: U3
UHS: UHS-I
Write / Seq: 84.4
Read / Seq: 86.8
Read / But: 82.9
Write / Ran: 77.0
Rated Read: 100
Rated Write: 90
As you can see, the U3 chip is MUCH faster when writing. If you're copying a large music library, that's the difference between 20 minutes, and 80 minutes. Since it's the same price, go for the faster chip.
The only exception I could see a case being made is if you like the more "rugged" specs of the Evo+. Waterproof, shockproof, Xray-proof, etc. Although my personal opinion (which includes 3 years of data recovery on flash cards), I wouldn't bother. If you can insert the SD card into the phone without damaging it, you're all set. There is almost never any physical damage that happens to an sd card once it's inside a phone. Electrical damage is possible, but that will happen regardless of the card you're using.
Thanks for this, Just bought the Samsung Evo Select U3
Economical micro SD card
The Moto X⁴ manual only has two statements about the external storage:
"Tip: use a Class 10 microSD card for better user experience."
and
"Note: your phone supports microSD cards up to 2TB."
The second statement implies that the system is capable of using the SDXC Standard. So far, so good. The "Class 10" tip isn't telling us what the actual hardware is, i.e. whether or not it supports UHS-I, UHS-II, or USH-III bus speeds. (I suspect that it is limited to UHS-I due to something I saw on the Moto Z documentation.)
If we could get a definitive answer on this issue, it would be a relatively simple matter to translate the specifications to the product marketing designations. That way we wouldn't end up paying for hardware that goes unused and that might even cause the system to use sub-optimal fall back capabilities.
If you want to be as confused as I am on the matter, I suggest a visit to the SD Association website. (I can't link yet.)
Hello sorry for the necro but I just bought a Moto x4 and I’m looking to buy an sd card. Has anyone figured out what the max read/write speed of the phones sd slot is? There’s cards now advertising (up to) 300 MB/s read and write so I’m just wondering what my options are and the best way to spend my money. Thanks.
I ended up getting the SanDisk 64GB Ultra microSDXC UHS-I 100MB/s, C10, U1, Full HD, A1, SDSQUAR-064G-GN6MA and was satisfied.

Hello guyz,
Can you please recommend me the best microSD card for our phone in 128GB or 256GB?
I am leaning towards Samsung Pro Plus 128GB or EVO Plus 256GB. Should I go for speed or size?
Also there is Sandisk Extreme with similar speeds and Lexar Professional with read speeds @ 150mb/s, but I'm note sure if these speeds are overkill for a Note8..
I would also like to know cause eBay has so many fake ones.
I honestly have had issues with every sdhc I've used except for the EVO's. I don't know about other Samsung classes but I personally would stick with genuine Samsung memory cards.

I've been using the 256GB EVO that Samsung was giving out for the Note7 promo. Been working great.
I lost my $32 for useless SD card
I wouldn't worry too much about speed, as you can install apps on the SD card (correct me if I'm wrong). I would go for size over speed.
Never had issues with the Samsung or Sandisk memory cards for mobile devices, I have used everything from 2gb cards to 256gb cards and I will be looking at the 400gb card as soon as Sandisk gets it to retailers.
Samsung EVO Plus Grade 3, Class 10 128GB MicroSDXC thats one i have in my Note8 and as i don't shot lot of 4k videos that speed is enough
400gb for the win chuck
sandisk 400gb. Note8 ready. get it ONLY from "ships and sold by amazon". never 3rd party.

Fastest is probably:
Lexar Professional 1000x microSDXC (up to 256GB)
Biggest size is probably:
SanDisk Ultra 400GB microSDXC UHS-I
Best price/size/performance? Probably Samsung Evo+ line of cards, based on the following (it's a guess, I have not benchmarked them myself):
https://www.pidramble.com/wiki/benchmarks/microsd-cards
Do not rely on only the manufacturers' ratings, they can be way off and sometimes read is fast, but write is slow (or vice versa). The most expensive is not always the fastest either. Further, some excel in big sequantial reads, others are a tad better in random read/write IOPS. Even further, Note8 card interface probably is NOT able to use the maximum speed out of the latest UHS-II cards.
And yes, do NOT buy on eBay, unless you are willing to gamble or really know what you are doing.
My experience with SanDisk
Hi,
I just bough an Sandisk microSdhc Extreme 128 GB, Class 10, U3 UHS-2.
I emailed Samsung about my Note 8 and they told me that it supports UHS-2 cards.
When running tests on phone I get MAX 60write 60read
Only on DiskSeed Test App I got 287 MB/S read and 37 MB/S write.
Any input?
I've had my 64gb SD card in my s5 before putting it in my note 8. I might be lucky, but I figured Samsung cards work best in Samsung devices, idk. But yeah, it's been about 3 years and the SD card is going strong.
Andddddd...itll probably break after this post.
Galaxy Note 8 has many options for microSD Card for it. Here I found much different Note 8 Memory Card.
Never had an issue with any Sandisk microSDCard. I have had a bunch of them and they all work fine.
I'm another using the Samsung 256 EVO that came with the Note 7 promo. It also worked fine in an S7Edge for a while before I got the Note 8.

Anyone know where to get this one at a better deal? When it comes to device storage I'm not as much concerned with speed as I am with size and having 400GB at your fingertips, on the go, is just pretty freakin' awesome.
Btw...for those looking for more speed, I happened to catch this video on YouTube the other day that explains what the different speed markings on the sd cards actually mean if anyone's interested. I found it to be fairly informative.
Can the S7 edge utilize the top write speeds of the best UHS-I cards? Some people say it cannot but I think they are referring to UHS-II cards. My current card is rated at 40MB write and does 38MB. A 60MB card writes at 58MB.
I want to know If i buy an Samsung Evo Select if I cant expect it to come close the the 90MB advertised write speed.
Thank you.
Well I confirmed through my own testing what I had feared. I got a 128gb samsung evo select. When transfering data on to the card via the adapter in my imac it was writing at around 90MBps as advertised. In my S7 edge it only writes at 40MBps. So if ur considering buying a fast card for your S7 edge you do not need the fasted cards.
And what android app did you use to test the write speeds? I have a 128GB samsung evo (not the select model) myself & have no issues with the speeds. It's possible that yours is a defective MicroSD.
Read 54mb/s, write 37.3mb/s. Samsung evo+ in my S7 Edge.
A pleasant increase from the old class 10 (14mb/s write speed) and makes the gallery, file transfers etc MUCH snappier. Compared to the old class 10 cards it also runs cold in an external reader, the class 10 was too hot to touch !.
I'm VERY happy, I'd no doubt get faster speeds in a card reader but it's a joy to use in my s7 edge too. I'm also pleased it doesn't add to internal temps (latest technology memory chip used !).
