Unlocking a stolen phone's changed password? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

Dear XDA
My sisters phone was recently stolen and retrieved. However, upon retrieval, the swipe password as well as the recovery pin has been changed, therefore locking us completely out of the phone. I've been tasked with unlocking it to see if there is any evidence of who the thief is.
My question is; how can I either get files off the phone, change the password, or get past the screen without actually knowing the password? This is a legal investigation case at this point because the thief has also stolen several other phones, then slipping them into unknowing students backpacks.
All help greatly appreciated.

If she has logged in with a samsung account she can go to
https://findmymobile.samsung.com/login.do and reset the password

If it's an AT&T S6, pretty sure you're going to be SOL.
If it was a different variant, then I would be able to bypass the screen lock

It shouldn't matter because i was locked out of my phone and was able to reset my password and i have the s6 at&t model.

LoJack coming to Samsung GALAXY S4

Leveraging the same Absolute persistence technology used in LoJack® for Laptops, owners of Samsung GALAXY S4 will soon have an Android security software to recover their stolen smartphone. If stolen, only the Absolute Theft Recovery Team can help locate and return your smartphone. In addition, if the smartphone is lost, you can remotely delete files or lock the smartphone so nobody can access your stuff.

Definitely something worth checking into.
According to this article the functionality and apparently the app are part of the recent MF9 OTA update.

I read in another article that, that is actually the limitation you need to be running stock to take advantage of the LoJack feature.

I believe the Knox app that was added with the MF9 update made this LoJack app able to work.

I will have to look into this
Phone theft is out of control,
especially when it leads to murder.
Lol haha I had to paste that...
This looks like what cerberus can do but cerberus is completely free. Why should I pay for this... well if I'm not rooted maybe just maybe I would buy this.

Just another enticement to run tracking software with the guise of locating your lost or stolen phone. F you nsa and your affiliates!

I could have really used this in June...I was on a cruise and my phone got stolen in a matter of minutes
Was watching a comedy show in the auditorium, left phone on chair to go get some napkins and boom...gone!!! i had lookout, but it doesn't do any good if there is no data in the open seas
At least with this, if they can't track it down, they will replace it

Also, would this work if we are rooted stock/rooted custom?
or do we have to be unrooted Stock?
Its probably for enterprise phones like businesses and corps. They are the ones who would pay for security. Apple has a new feature that to use the phone you must sign into your apple cloud account and it stores your phone data and such there. If someone pops out your sim and tries to use it they have to sign in and if would fail because that device registers with your account only. A FREE feature btw. Samsung google and apple had a meeting in nyc about theft and possibly a kill switch on phones.
The only downside is the kill switch will be controled by the carrier so they can shut you down if they wanted to. #NSA

it's also for personal users
I called them today and they said it won't work if you are rooted and they said they have some "persistant" thing that makes it install OTA. but if someone roots your phone and installs a custom rom it won't work....but i guess the benefit of this is that if it does get stolen, they will give you 90% of the value, which at this point is $600

samsung note 3 hacked please help

I am having a really big problem. For two years and about 7 devices later I can't seem to fix my problem of my phone either recording my calls and tracking my location. I have tried almost everything. Even took my phone to a data dr. Which they said my phone was cloned and my phone company said my number was being spoofed. I've changed phones, numbers, and even phone company's, but still no luck. Can somebody help me please. Here are my logs
I have seen this in every device forum I have supported... Only once was it legit. The rest were just paranoid.
If you have been through 7 devices and multiple different companies, chances are that you are just paranoid. But... There is a small chance that an app that you have on your phone is Rouge...
Is it possible that you have a psycho boyfriend/husband that is installing tracking software on your phone?

Does anyone have any idea why this occurred? AT&T couldn't answer my question.

I bought an S5 from Craig's list. Before buying the phone, I asked the AT&T rep. How I could tell if the phone has good IMEI. She told me as long as I put the sim in and can make calls, I should be good.
So when it came to buying the phone, I put the sim and made few calls. I even had data. To double check, I checked the IMEI online and it was clean.
I even called AT&T to verify the IMEI and they said it was clean. I even registered it under my account.
Fast forward to 2 days later, my phone gets blocked from the network and AT&T tells me that the imei is bad.
The question is: what happened?
I think this was happening to T-Mobile users too. The Original owner just stop paying the Jump, Next, Flex, Fruit Salad, or whatever the hell AT&Ts upgrade program is called. Users phones were being blacklisted days later.
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA Free mobile app
Att will only blacklist a phone that is reported lost or stolen. So what likely happened is after the person sold you the phone they reported it lost or stolen and filed an insurance claim. Did you happen to grab their license plate or any info that could identify them. Either way they either sold you a stolen phone or committed insurance fraud.

Most likely yes they will blacklist it if the contract is canceled if the phone has not been fully paid off.

You can fix it by mailing phone to Joe the android rooter. I just got a nexus 4 that was blacklisted. For $50 and 1 week turnaround got it fixed. I think he can even do yours remotely for $80

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Free mobile app
This guy solves that dilemma. I don't condone buying stolen phones but if someone unknowingly buys a bad phone he can fix it in about 1 week turnaround and around $50.
For 50$ he must be doing IMEI changes cause no way in hell a motherboard from the s5 is 50$lol but hey do what you got to do. Some losers in this world like to do that bull****.
When I bought mine from Craigslist I had the guy remove it from his att account so he could not do what just happened to you.
yeah you can't get an s5 mobo for even what he charges. he is def flashing new IMEIs prob from old junk phones. sucks that every company blacklists for no bill pay now even when the phone has been active on someone elses line. next time call the company and see if the imei is currently tied to an account. pain in the booty but only way to be sure.
I have purchased many phones off eBay to repair and resell and have run into this many times. They report the phone lost or stolen after they ship it to you. At least on eBay you can open a case against them and get your money back. And sometimes you don't even have to ship the phone back! And now that the carriers are sharing blacklists the problem is compounded. I would be VERY wary about buying any phone less than two years old from Craigslist. I would make them show you a receipt for the phone paid in full or not buy it.

S6 active att locked on samsung account login screen***

hi my names nina and i am a innocent woman that bought a phone off this guy on craigslist for 100 dollars .he said it would work on T mobile and he said it was unlocked and he lied, its locked!!:crying::crying::crying: i gave it to my brother to try and bypass the samsung account screen, he spent days on you tube trying to root or do whatever you guys call it, i don know. I'm really stressed out because its supposed to be for my new job that takes this rabbit software for android .i can't use my iPhone for this app. XDA is my last resort to make use of this s6 active or I'm screwed because i don't have more money to buy another phone:crying: .its in mint condition and is water resistant and its doing nothing but sitting on the table!! Some one please save me ,my job starts in 5 days !
ps . theres no way to enable OEM unlock or usb debugging .whatever the hell that means ,my brother told me to put this on here, hope it helps.
What exactly is it telling you? Does it seem the phone was stolen? Have you checked the imei to make sure it is not blacklisted? I believe swappa.com has a free imei check to see if it's tied into another person's account. $100 seems a little too cheap for this device.

I haven't worked with it in a while. But, go onto Samsung’s website and bring up the support page.
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads
Select mobile and fill out the info it asks you.
After you installed the software, look for software recovery. I'm on mobile right now, I'd give you a direct link to the software otherwise.

How to tell if the BOOTLOADER is Unlocked?

I know there's a lot of speculation after the S7 and S7 Edge where locked on T-Mobile that they know 7 will also be locked on T-Mobile. I've made numerous calls to T-Mobile and to Samsung. In the end 8ts anybody's guess right now. I have had every Note since Note 2 and have ALL been Rooted. When my phone gets delivered in the next hour or two I was wondering if there's any way I can check myself to see if the bootloader is unlocked?
