I have an original Galaxy Gear, model V700 as always. A few months ago I had rooted it and flashed _nullrom to it. I grew bored of it and the battery life sucked worse than stock firmware so I reset the entire watch. Everything went back to normal, but maybe a month and a half ago I had offered it to a family member as a Fitbit replacement. They declined, so I just put it in a drawer and it eventually died.
Fast forward a month and a half later and I end up getting a Galaxy Note 5. I remembered I had my Gear, so I tried turning it on: No success.
I tried using the crappy 3rd party cradle I had gotten when I had bought it used: No success.
Tried at least 15 different power bricks/mUSB cords: No success.
Finally, a few days ago, I ordered the original charging cradle. Plugged it in. Still no success. I got a few half second flashes on the screen of the battery with the spinning watchhand on it, and I rarely get that, but so far no luck. I'm sure it charges as the watch and the case get warm, it just doesn't want to power up. It's not the screen as it flashed a few times. I unplugged and replugged the battery when I first took it out again. Any ideas guys? Don't wanna waste 250-300 on a newer Gear when I have a perfectly (un)usable watch right here...
This (half a second flashes) was the exact symptom I was having. Fixed by replacing the battery, see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-gear/help/sm-v700-battery-replacement-t3406665
Gear now fully operational, charged, everything working. Not difficult if you have some repair skills and tools.

I've seen several threads about this in the past month on other websites with no solutions so it seems to be a common issue.
The problem I'm having is that after not using my gear for a few days it refuses to charge or turn on. Not even a flicker when the charger is attached. Tried two different cords. Pins are clean and lined up. Left it plugged in overnight several times. Anyone else having or had this issue? Thanks
I don't have an answer for the problem at hand but I would like to stay updated with this thread. I'm looking into getting one very soon.

Had not heard of issue before. Did you try holding down power button for 10secs+?

Yes but since the unit is completely dead it has no effect
Here are some other threads where users are having the same issue:

After trying a third cord for a Samsung blue tooth headset I finally got the gear to show it is charging and states 60% battery. Very strange. Tried turning it on and resetting it several times beforehand too so even though it had charge it was temporarily bricked. Hope this doesn't happen again
I had an similar experience the other day, the clock wouldn't start/charge or react to the power button. After i repeatedly tried to hold the powerbutton i finally rebooted. I suspect the gear was actually on, but that the system froze. Was about to do the surgery to remove the battery to check when it booted up

I recently had this issue with one of my gear.this problem comes when you leave you watch on and battery drains and you don't charge for couple of weeks.I think it has something to do motherboard.only way to fix this is to replace battery which has juice in it.that's how I got mine working.I replaced the battery from my working watch and it started working and the dead battery I took out put in my other watch also started charging and working.this is a factory defect and Samsung should replace it free lifetime of watch instead of one year.

I found that if you take the Galaxy Gear apart and disconnect the power from the motherboard then plug back in and put the gear back together has got them to turn back on almost every time just give it a charge for a few minutes. This will fix it as long as the issue was not due to rooting to trying to put a custom ROM on the Gear. There is a few videos on YouTube that can help you take it apart.
- I work for Samsung experience shop and i have run into this issue often and just about every time this has fixed it.
- sorry for late response hope your back in the business with the Gear.
I've had this issue with wall chargers and did some reading online. Someone suggested to plug it into a computer/laptop usb port.
I plugged it into the laptop and walked away and guess what? It's charging. I tried many different chargers varying in ratings but nothing worked
Try leaving it plugged into the pc for a good while. After two days of trying various chargers, my gear is back up and running
Had this issue as well. I tried a series of taps to the power button followed by a hold and it eventually turned on and has been working fine since.
tap - hold
tap tap - hold
tap tap tap - hold
eventually it will come on, i cant remember how many taps it was when it finally reset.
Hi had this issue also spent 3 hours trying to figure it out as had just got gear out of its box at very first plugging charger in a quick image appeared on screen then off after that nothing. Eventually being as carefully as possible while gear was in charging dock still plugged in i opened the lid not once did i move gear off contacts but did give sight wiggle then it came to life appears to me its a docking problem of some sort. of course I DON'T RECOMMEND opening lid while charging but thought id pass on what i figured out do at your own risk, I hope this helps others with this issue
Thanx

Gear Watch Charging FIXED!
Thanks to this thread I am very happy!
Just bought a 2nd hand Gear Watch at auction. No idea about how they work and wondered why it wouldn't switch on or respond when charging. Just a black screen regardless of which charger or cable was connected. Read above about disconnecting the power from the motherboard so watched this youtube video on tear down ( won't let me post the full link but this is the video number... v=5WzGC0786U0 )
Luckily had a small 'star' toolset available. Pulled the watch apart... disconnected the power...reconnected the power...reassembled the watch... plugged into the charger and voila! Instantly showed up on the screen with an orange timer and then went black (held my breath) then came on with the battery symbol with 0% charge. Looking at it as I write...touched the screen and now has 10% charge (only been about 5 minutes).
Looking forward to playing with it when fully charged Thank you to the contributors to this thread. I thought I'd been ripped off...but now it seems I'm the one who has scored a working Gear Watch for £20 )))
mine started working on its own... strangely enough.
taking the advice from this thread, i looked into alternate ways to get my Galaxy Gear up and running. I tried cleaning the metal tabs that connect, tried opening the holster while it was plugged in, nothing. i didn't have a star kit to take it apart, so i left it on the charger while i could go find one. thing is, i completely forgot about it, since i've got the Gear 2 for my S5. i was cleaning around my desk and bumped into the gear which fell over and showed that it was at 100% charged capacity. beforehand, it was completely dead, despite the fact that i left it on the charger for a solid 24 hours and no response. maybe it just needed a little more time on there, who knows. but i powered it on, and it's fully functioning. the only drawback is that it needs a factory reset since it was without power for so long. i could connect it as an accessory to my S5, but i couldn't use it in the place of my Gear 2 as it's been rooted/running a _null ROM, and the Gear Manager software has been updated a few times. i'm going to factory reset it and pair it with my Note 3, and see if _null has an updated version of his ROM out there. but i figured i'd let someone know my experience in case it might help in some way.
Fixed it !

Just to share my experience, I left my gear about 2 months discharged, today I tried to charge it and nothing. I tried everything, clean, connect, disconnect etc, so, I pulled the watch apart and disconnected the power etc and everything is working fine now, charging as usual.
Here's what worked for me
I read on another site to try a piece of paper folded and put next to the on button so when the charging cradle is snapped closed it pushes it down. I just tried it and after many days of a dead gear watch....ta da! Success. Now it's on and charging. Take the paper out once it starts to reboot otherwise it will just cycle over and over. Hope this helps someone else. It's tricky to fit just right...i folded a tiny piece of post it note ...good luck. Penelope

I had the same problem: the gear is dead and not charging with a wall charger after leaving the gear for more than 1 month unused. I followed ph00ny's advice and tried to charge it via usb and it immediately started to charge. So before taking it apart I suggest try it out with usb charger.
Cheers
Stopped my gear update by shutting off my phone and now gear wont power on
I have been trying everything to get it to turn on.... (holding down the power button, tap and hold, charging with USB) nothing is working. Don't have a star driver to open it up, but may have to invest in one.
Anyone have the same issue? This is driving me crazy!

Bingooooooo, It's paradoxal All you have to do when the battery is left drained for a couple of days is to start charging on a Laptop or a desktop with a s4 usb cord for about 10 mn then you continue charge if you like with à wall charger

Oddly enough this is nothing but the truth. Funny enough. I lost my charger dock thingamajig recently and not one hour ago i started making my own out of a 2x4, and a few bits laying around. Was sad to see gear wouldnt charge or boot. tried different chargers and nothing. I read everything and saw this and didnt think to try as im only running two wires to charge my gear, as those with homemade chargers know. Plugged it into a laptop and boom. charging... please someone explain to me the theory behind this. and dont say the current as i even tried 500ma and 250ma chargers to no avail. how does a pc usb magically do it without data lines connected.... so confused..
So out of the box, this was fine. But while downloading its update, it suddenly crapped out on me. I assumed it was battery life, so I set it up to charge. I came back a while later, and it was overheating. So I unplugged it.
I can get it to start to turn on for a brief second, but then it stops. So I plugged it back in to have it charge, and the battery charge icon keeps flashing, but I can't get it to boot up all the way. Any idea what's going on?
What was happening when you tried to charge it? Just nothing? The charging icon keeps flashing on mine, and it's getting really hot, but it's not turning on. sigh.
I'm having the same problem. I was using it and then it shut off while downloading the update. It never came back on. Google is sending a replacement. I'm so disappointed.
Mine I received and it was just plain dead.
Been it the charger hours, no sign of life at all.
They are sending me another ... disappointed as well.
wow, looks like I have same problem, just received, gear live was downloading and all over sudden stopped, I am not able to reboot anymore, reacts on nothing, disappointed since will be such a hassle living in the netherlands...
Did you buy it, or is from Google I/O? What was the current version of Android Wear, and update to which version? I am asking because I ordered mine a Gear Live and I am scared about these problems. I hope that is a problem with first devices and that I have not spent 220$ for nothing...

I'm having the same issue. I got a replacement watch but unfortunately same issue. I'm trying to give it back and I' switch for a LG R. Not the same design but I know it works
Hey XDA,
I recently won a Galaxy Tab S2 through work. Unfortunately every time I charge the device the screen becomes unresponsive to touch. The first time this happened I had charged it for 4 hours, and it was fine, so I took it off at a full charge. I then left, turned on and updating, over night upstairs on my coffee table. When I went to use it in the morning, it was unresponsive.
I took it to work, where I have a USB to Micro USB adapter and was able to factory reset it. It worked fine after that, so same thing, updated it at work, took it home, and it being nearly dead, charged it over night. First thing in the morning, Unresponsive. This happened two more times. Finally I got in touch with the people who I won the tablet from, and got it replaced.
I picked up the new tablet today around 6:30 PM. Downloaded a bunch of apps that I wanted, got it set up how I like, and put it on the charger. In the time it took to charge from 5% to 30%, the new tablet has also become completely unresponsive.
While chatting with Samsung via Live Chat (big waste of time) I plugged the original Tablet in, as it had been sitting dead on my dresser while I waited for the replacement, and for about 20 seconds it worked, before once again becoming un-responsive.
I've used the chargers that came in the box, a Galaxy S6 charger, and LG G4 charger, and an HTC M9 charger and the issue occurs with them all. I've charged them via wall sockets, power bars, and my computer and it still happens.
Having this happen once happens, I understand as I work with Cellphones and tablets for a living, but two in a row I can't help but feel like I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone suggest anything at all before I try once again to get it replaced?
Thanks in advance for your guys time and consideration.

No, I turned that all off when I booted up. But I did go and get everything I wanted downloading, plus updating all the default apps. But even after all of that is done, it still doesn't work.
actually, i was going to recommend the opposite: remove any sd cards or sim cards, reset to stock, then either don't log in to *any* account, or if it won't let you, create a *fresh*, totally blank, google account and use that. don't install anything, don't update anything, not even the os.
then try to replicate the problem.
It might be something your installing that's destroying your tablet...
Try to reset to default and just use it like that for awhile... then add one program at a time until you find the culprit. I can assure you this is a great tablet and your issues aren't indicative of the product.

Try a different usb cable. Just in case it matters.
Hi guys,
My Watch Sport seems to have developed some issues in the last two days.
The screen wouldn't come on (I don't have always on turned on). I restarted it, and it was ok for a couple of minutes, then the same.
I turned on "always on" in display settings to trouble shoot, and the same thing happened - only now, the screen was frozen when it stopped working.
The watch itself seems to be running as I noticed some battery drain even with the screen off.
I did a factory reset from the UI, not luck. Did a wipe from recovery. Same issue.
Has anyone had a similar issue before?
Thanks for your help!
Update - The problem still exists, but I narrowed it down.
I turned off the watch, fully charged it and powered it on. Turned on everything that could be turned on and let it sit on the table. Checked it every now and then, it seems to be working. Ran the battery out, recharged it and did the same for about 2 more cycles. It seemed to work. The only times this 'freeze' happens is when I wear it, which got me to thinking it's probably the hear rate sensor. Opened Fit and started reading the heart rate - if it's not on my wrist, the sensor just keeps going on for a minute or so and then turns off. But if I so much a put a finger on the sensors, all it takes is 30 secs, and it freezes.
Let me try to get some logs over the weekend.
For anyone that's wondering. The watch is alive again. After about 4 months of collecting dust, I figured I'll boot it up and see how it holds up.
Turned it on and charged it for a couple of hour, then the latest Wear OS updated was pushed - a couple of them actually.
Let it sit in the cradle for a day, and wore it, without expecting much. Been about 5 weeks now. No crashes or freezes. Battery lasts much longer - about 2 days with LTE & NFC off.
One thing to note though. Up until a few weeks ago, I used to charge it via usb from my desktop. Since the last reboot, I started charging it using the wall plug.
Not sure if it was this, or the new Wear OS that fixed the issue, I'm glad it's working again and I don't need to go back to my Gear S3 and Tizen *cringe*
Hi, I decided to turn on my urbane 1st gen after 3 months. I used it for an entire day just fine, but the next day it wouldn’t stay on out of the cradle.
I did a factory reset but the problem persisted. Then I did a factory reset from the bootloader. I got the first time setup twice but now the watch won’t even turn on when sitting on the cradle.
Very rarely the LG logo appears but it shuts down quickly after. The computer does not recognize the watch at all. I tested the usb cable with my phone and it worked fine.
I’m thinking about replacing the battery, but I would like to know if there are others solutions for this problem I can try first. Thanks in advance.
I had the same problem.
One day it worked okay the next it stopped.
It only booted when it was on the cradle, but as soon I took it off it would go off.
I fixed it by buying a new battery and now it works again.
I payed around € 8 for the battery
Most probably needs a battery replacement. Same was happening with mine. Replaced and works normally so far..
