Republicwireless Moto X (Gen. 1) crashes erratically and ... - Moto X Q&A

My 1st gen. Moto X has been upgraded via Republicwireless-supplied OTA upgrades to current Android 5.1. I have 160 apps in a 16 GB phone. I use both Google Play and Amazon Andoid apps.
Problem: Randomly the phone crashes and goes into varying degrees of reboot. Sometimes, the same one-by-one "optimizing" of all my apps occurs as when installing the OS 5.1 upgrade, making the reboot take ~30 min. (or so it seems). Other times, the reboot is less severe and only takes a couple of minutes. Other times, the phone freezes and takes a long-press of the power button to either turn off/and/or/turn back to a normal restart.
Since the OS 5.1 upgrade was done, it's been suggested I do a factory reset.
(Regarding the suggestion to do a factory reset) I cringe to admit I can't even sort out which apps have which files I want to back up. I don't know if they'll re-associate with the same apps if I somehow save them and "reinstall them"? From where-to-where? I don't know which apps have treasured data stored in them or where they each store the data? There's no feature built-in for "imaging" the internal files. How do I know I won't corrupt the file system/structure saving them elsewhere? ...and on ad infinitum.
[BTW: I recently used My Backup Pro by Rerware to back up a problem Asus tablet (lemon: still not fixed after two trips to the SquareTrade repair labs) but was told by the repair facility NOT to use My Backup Pro app. Rather: I am supposed to re-install apps one-at-a-time until hell breaks loose again. What is that supposed to tell me? How will I know if app #35 (installation order) is causing app #89 to crash...etc.? Makes no sense to me. ]

What model do you have?

Hi JulesJam, Thanks for noting my probs & replying...really.
Settings screen only says: "Model number: Moto X, HW version P30, Kernal version: 3.4.42-g1e2de28, [email protected] #1, Wed Dec 9 15:36:14 CST 2015; System version 222.21.15.ghost_row.RepublicWireless.en.US sprint; Build number LPA23.12-39-R-15"
I have the AIDA64 app installed but don't know where to get the info you request.

Thanks again.

So do you have an XT1049 running system version 5.1 (lollipop) with bootloader version 30.BE?
And the bootloader is locked?
Do you know how to get into bootloader mode (fastboot mode) using the buttons?

Wifi and cellular not working after root moto x

Hello,
I have myself a problem. Yesterday I rooted my phone (moto x 2nd gen. 2014) using King root (boot loader was already unlocked.) Everything was running fine until my phone died. After I powered it on, I realized my wifi was shut off. I tried to turn it back on but it read turning wifi on continually. It also says that there is no sim card. I have unrooted the device (using king root), I have hard reset the device, yet, the problem still remains. Has my phone turned into an expensive paperweight? Or is there any way to fix this... Thank you and I greatly appreciate anything leading to a resolution.

As I feared, your IMEI (international mobile equipment identity) number has been overwritten or something like that.
You must flash the default factory firmware of your device. It happened with my device long time ago. I flashed a corrupted firmware and the devices' radio was modified.
Just flash the default firmware ( in my case it was XT1092 Kitkat) and the radio will work again. Good luck, google will help you.
Otherwise just send it to Moto Care center, they will take care of it. They might charge you though if it is out of warranty.[emoji28] [emoji5]

Is there any way to install an android rom for a Huawei P9 Pro (Huawei clone) MT6580?

Hello, i want to ask if there are any way to install any android rom for a Huawei P9 Pro (Huawei clone) MT6580? I've been looking in many forums aroun there and i didn't find a single one working rom for this device. I have always been a fan of personalization and i want to install and try differents rom's in this device. Anyone knows about a way to do it?
Thanks.
PD. sorry if the post is in the wrong section, this is my first time posting.
I did a quick google search and found a video of someone showing a Rom for your phone, so it seems there a roms. I wouldn't recommend installing a rom meant for the real Huawei P9
because your phone probably hasn't the same hardware as the original and a wrong rom may brick your device.
Yes, i tried so many ways to install roms but no one worked. Now im facing a new problem, my phone is not broken, but two process has stopped: com.android.phone, google.media.gapps. This two messages appears every second and it makes impossible to use the phone. I cant dont anything. Luckily for me it has the debugging option activated. Do you have any ideas how to fix it? My phone doesnt have a removable battery and I tried to fixed it with SP Flash Tool but it does nothing. I need help please

You could try to clear cache and data of the phone app and of Google play services. When this doesn't work reset the app preferences or factory reset your phone.
Regarding the custom roms I'm 99% sure that none of the roms for the Huawei p9 work on your device because the CPU that you have in your phone is a Mediatek MT6580M wich is a CPU for low cost Tablets and Smartphones. And all the Roms are developed for the real Huawei p9 wich has a Hisilicon Kirin 955 (so a completely different CPU). So either you develope a Rom yourself or you buy a real Huawei p9 (or a different phone that isn't a cheap nockof) so you can enjoy custom Roms.
I would if i could but i cant access the phone in any ways. It get stucked with a black home screen (altough i can see navigation keys and notification bar) and every second i get an error window for the process. I cant access anything. What could be causing this error?

No and i think there is no TWRP for your phone because nobody developes for fake Phones.

Phone is laggy since the OTA update to 9.0

Every since accepting and updating my Moto G6 (US Retail) to 9.0 (PPS29.118-11-1), it has been laggy. The lags seem to happen mostly when there is some type of I/O operation (like opening an app), or when a background app is doing something on the network - email getting delivered, etc. I've rebooted to recovery, and wiped the cache, but now I am considering doing a factory reset. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone got any ideas that don't involve me reloading all my apps and data?
Thanks in advance.
-Chris
yeah, i'm also getting some lagginess. it's mostly when i unlock my phone using the fingerprint reader. the transition takes a super long time. i feel it's mostly the animation that's causing the ton of lag. initially after i updated to 9, opening and closing apps would take forever as well. but changing the animation with nova launcher made it a bit snappier; although it's still slower than 8.
No lag here
You guys might want to do a clean firmware install, I don't have any lag on this version I didn't take the OTA just flashed the firmware.
I think I may have resolved at least some of the issue. First, I use a SD card to hold some pictures, and videos, and other data (no apps). I reformated the card from android, and this resolved about 80% of my lag issues. Not sure if there is some kind of disk polling that is done, but with the clean format on the SD card, things most run smoothly now. The other area I'm still seeing a little lag is when scrolling over something in apps like google news where it is trying to pull a video or large image file and there seems to be some delay in the network. At this point, I think the issue is in my wifi network, not my phone (although I'm still no ruling it out). But at least it is better.

Dead on. While I was able to make my G6 better, it was still laggy at times. Yesterday, I bite the bullet, backed up my data, and did a clean flash of the current firmware. Now the phone is smooth as glass. Good call.
Thanks,
-Chris
Noticed the same thing. Reflashed for some other reason and instantly saw the lag that had been getting more and more noticeable disapear.
What do you mean by 'reflashing'? Is that the same as 'restore to factory settings?'
I've read a thread on the Motorola forum where users have done that, with no noticeable results.

No, I literally reflashed the ROM.
I downloaded the current official ROM from here:
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ali/official/RETUS/
(note the link is for the US Retail channel distribution, if your phone is not RETUS channel, find the matching ROM for the channel your phone is.)
Once downloaded, I used the RSD lite app to flash the phone.
http://download.canadiancontent.net/RSDLite.html
You can google exact directions to use the tool, but basically, you reboot your phone to the bootloader, start RSD Lite, connect the USB cable (I had to use the factory cable on a USB 2.0 port to make this work), select the ROM file, and press Start.
Note: This will wipe your phone! So make a backup of your data.
I'm not familiar with flashing ROMs etc. And I don't want to mess up my phone any further.
Despite the fact that Motorola insist that there is no problem, I'm hoping their forum will convince them that there is.
Thanks for the help, but I'll keep it as it is. Meanwhile I'll be looking around for a dependable Android One phone.
I found one thing that helped:
Go in to 'Settings', 'system', 'Motorola privacy'' and uncheck both the slides in the menu. And I disabled the Google feed on my start screen (Swipe access).
The restart your phone.
The phone is a lot less laggy after that.
update! the August security patch update kind of helped with the lock screen lag I was experiencing.

Just did a check on my phone, and there is an update on the RETUS channel.
PPS29.118-15-11 / Security patch level: August 1,2019
A few questions about this. Through pure dumb luck, I didn't accept the Pie update, and have turned off automatic system updates in the Developer's options. It gives me a notice of new firmware a few times a day, which I decline, but so far has not updated without my consent. I realize it may do that at any moment regardless of the Developers setting.
So I'm still on Android 8, and would be delighted to stay there. But, if I'm forced to go to 9, would I be able to flash 8 again using the files here? Would that accomplish anything, or would it still insist on going to 9 after I had flashed 8?
The earlier reference to the "current official" rom - does that mean the latest 9 rom?
Why would installing the same v9 rom over again produce any different result from the OTA update to that rom?
Is there any way to turn off the firmware update notices? I've tried lots of things, but they still come.
Just trying to figure out what my options are, and what I should do. There's a 42-page thread on the Lenovo forum about this problem, with no indication that Lenovo/Motorola will lift a finger to fix it, apparently being content to see some unknown number (perhaps all) of the G6's ruined by the update to 9. I called Moto CS, and they blamed Google for the problem. Obviously, I bought the wrong brand of phone. Actually, it's my first smart phone. It seems beginners luck is a myth. At least I know better than to buy a Lenovo computer when Windows 7 becomes dangerous in January.
Anyway, I would appreciate any comments on the G6 thing.

JimmiH on the Lenovo forum has found "Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant", a new utility from Motorola, which is installed on your PC (Win 7 or 10). Included in the utility is a "rescue" function which appears to do the same thing as RSD Lite - resurrect a phone from any software issues. It downloads the correct official rom and reflashes it to the phone. JimmiH will be reporting back over the next few weeks as to whether the rescue has permanently solved his Pie lagginess issues.
The advantage of this LMSA over RSD Lite is that it runs on Windows 10, and presumably works with USB3 ports, while apparently neither was the case with RSD Lite. And of course you don't have to go hunting for the right rom.
----------------------------------------------------------------
My understanding is that this utility does not require unlocking, and it does not root the phone.
Hello, I tried LMSA for flashing, but it says not supported device, I have model XT1925-4.

RSDLite will work on Windows 10, I have been using it, even on the newest Windows 10 version 1909. It will not work on usb 3 ports though. If you have any USB 2 ports available, plug the cable into one of those and it will work.

Count me among those watching this thread, in particular looking for evidence that LMSA (or RSD Lite) actually eliminates the lag problem for more than a few days. My phone is a bone stock model XT1925-6 running Android 9, PPSS29.118-15-11-2. Lag improved after the October update but returned in about a week.
I appreciate the efforts of this group in trying to resolve this problem.
My sister-in-law recently switched to TMo and ended up with a "free" G7 Power running Android 9. It's very smooth with no lag at all, so Moto apparently knows how to resolve this problem, they're just not helping us with the G6.

If you updated to the latest PIE then the answer is "NO"!
What firmware are you on?
Type in dialer *#1234# and you'll notice there is 4 lines. What does the AP: line say? (eg, N950FXXS8DSK5).
If you are on N950FXXS"8"DSK5 or N950FXXS"6, 7, 8"D.... then it's a big NO. Basically the 5th number spot before the letter "D" is the important number, that number can only go up it can NOT go down because of its bootloader version it uses.
Oreo stopped at N950FXXS5.... and the bootloader of N950XXS"6,7,8"D.... won't allow itself to be downgraded to lower versions.
You might want to BACKUP your phone and do a factory reset to see if things will speed up. Sometimes OS changes can get phone corrupted.

Can a Verizon Google Pixel 4a 5g bootloader be unlocked?

I've just been wondering if I get just unlock the Verizon bootloader for a Pixel 4a 5g (got the phone at a thrift store for 10 dollars only) - the OEM unlocking button is grayed out and I heard I cannot unlock the bootloader. I'mjust wonderingif I can at least do something funny with a Verizon bootloader at least.
Its not supposed to be possible, yet on the latest Android 13 update, my OEM unlock toggle suddenly became switchable after freezing a bunch of carrier apps. The only thing I didn't freeze was Sim tool kit and work config. I've literally done this over and over again with no results, in fact my phone was never even paid off. Yet for some reason, suddenly I was able to just toggle the switch unlock my bootloader and my device which is pretty much unheard of since the pixel 3

Insert a SIM card in your device and determine if it's locked to a carrier.
If it's a Verizon SIM lock, :/ outta of luck. Found that out the hard way via looking at XDA forums and nearly wasting time on the device. I plan to sell it to get a Google Pixel 6 Pro.
