Huawei P9 Arrange Apps Automatically - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

Hi,
New to Huawei as I've always had Samsungs before...
It's day 2 of having the P9 and I still can't figure out how to sort my app icons alphabetically... I'm running marshmallow, so can't imagine why Google or Huawei wouldn't provide this function... I'm open to being surprised!
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Jessica

Can't do it automatically
Hi
I too am new to the P9 and EMUI OS.
The only way I have found so far to arrange apps alphabetically is to drag 2 fingers outwards (like zooming in a photo).
This opens the hidden apps page.
Select all your apps as hidden.
These will make them disappear from your homescreens.
Then go back into hidden apps, they will be listed alphabetically, select the ones you wish to show and they will be added back to your homescreens in order.
Only problem is that you need to repeat this after installing new apps.
I do however like the swipe down with one finger to search, this is almost as quick as an alpha app drawer.
Hope this helps.
J

Just use an alternative launcher

A bit old, but if they update to EMUI 4 I've found you can clear the Hauwei launcher's storage in applications. It'll reset the launcher, and after a few moments it'll populate a few new "screens" with all your non default installed apps alphabetically sorted. A bit faster than the hide/show method.

These features cannot be added to Android?

Hello,
i am using lately MIUI, and i am impressed basically with 2 features that i wished it would 've been in Android. Is it so difficult to implement these on Android?
1. Seeing the drawer with all apps, being able to create and put apps in folders and knowing which apps are not in folders.
Is it so difficult for this to be implemented in the drawer? And if you have a folder in the drawer just to drag it onto the desktop? So many times i am frustrated because i've created over 50 times folders, and they have been deleted (by mistake or intentionally). But if they are always in the drawer, i would just drag them on the desktop.
2. Dragging icons on the dock.
Again is this something so difficult to implement?

What for? There's lot of apps that do. Free Apps Organizer or its paid version Folder Organizer for 1.

it's a question to your launcher developers. stock does not have that. Other might. No big deal though unless you spend your whole day dragging icons to the dock.
If you think these are essential components of the os then write it and send the changes to google. If they think it's important they will add your patch to the next update. But don't hope lot cause as I know they accepted only a few patches in the last years

I am definitely sure that it might be applied to Android 2.5 or 5.1 or 9.3, that at some point people would have the ability to create folders in the app drawer in order to have their programs a bit more tide up, thus why delaying things?
And about the dragging, why not simplifying the things and use dragging, rather than clicking on it, then waiting for another menu to come up then clicking to go in another menu, until you find hte app you want...
MIUI for the moment rocks, i even tried with Launcher Pro as home app and is super fast!

Hopefuly it won't happen as Google announced all non core system components will be pushed out of system to allow users easily replace them

Dont hold your breath. Default behaviour for drag&drop is element removal from home screen. Of course any home replaacement can do on its own, but never seen any (nor I miss that feature myself)

and having an option to tide up your drawer would mess the system?

[MOD][APP]Stock Launcher App Sorter - Abandoned

UPDATE: Unfortunately I have had to abandon this project, please accept my apologies.
I would like to introduce a little project I'm going to be starting, my first attempt at an App for android, one which will bring added functionality to the stock launcher on rooted devices.
Having tried a lot of different launchers, I actually prefer the stock launcher, for all but one thing which is the way it sorts Apps in the app drawer. The stock launcher sorts apps by name like most other launchers, but it splits them into System Apps and Downloaded Apps, so it can be hard sometimes finding the app you want.
My App is going to provide a way of sorting the Apps how you want, without modifying the stock launcher, so that it can last between updates.
My main aim is to provide a simple interface to pick how you want the Apps sorted, primarily alphabetical, ignoring whether they are system apps or downloaded apps.
You could do this by moving apps around manually but it would take a long time, so the idea is to automate this process.
While I work on the base of the app, I would like feedback on what other ways you would like the apps to be sorted, so that when you open the app, you can pick from different options as to how to sort the apps.
I look forward to reading some of your input.

good luck. I'd add:
1. Most used
2. Last updated
3. Recently installed
4. Also if it is possible add search bar on the first page
All these options are available in GoLauncher. So if you refer to that you know what I am asking
-S
Great,
But can you even add or mod the default tasker like when we long press home key at the bottom it takes us to task manager where we have to kill all unwanted application one by one, can you add a kill all button to that it wwould be amazing if you can do that.
By the way thanks a ton.

obviously u dun have htc phone..
lg's contacts and phone is ugly. plain and simple.. join feature is ineffective.. stock icons are lame.. lockscreen is LAME and slow and buggy with faceunlock.. if u manually join contacts, u cant edit the name.. and the names can be random and wrong..
themes are jus 4.. and ugly.. weather is ugly.. its slow..
list is too long.. lg made an epic device.. *WAAYYY BETTER THAN ONE X* but ****ed up with the software..
I like the launcher but this is annoying, nobody wants to.continue this? I think it would probably be easier to just mod the launcher itself

No luck...?

I can't believe that with so many widgets offers I can't seem to find the one that I really need:
A well laid out, elegant, customizable (i.e. transparency) and fully working Bookmarks Widget for the stock browser, stock ROM that is designed to work with a tab, not a phone.
The only promising solution I found was "Bookmarks in a list" but it failed to work properly on my 8.4 device (didn't retrieve the existing bookmarks)
I can't believe I am stuck with those ugly star-banners individual stock widgets.
...Can you guys help?

Try dash clock, there are lots of extension's on play store. Might find one to suit plus all can be made fully transparent. Probably won't help but worth a look.

Android Pro Widgets. It's a paid app but has free themes and you can set transparency amount. Has widgets for calendar, email and social apps too.

This was a good idea. Even more so, since I already paid for it, as I used it some time ago on my previous Galaxy 7.7. I only had to install it.
Unfortunately, it behaves like the "Bookmarks in a list" app: It does not fetch my current bookmarks. Even while making sure that "Stock Browser" is selected in the app configuration page, it fails to correctly do so. It seems to display from a "bookmarks" folder created when I ran "Chrome" for a while.

Can't seem to work around this...Very frustrating.
Dropped a line to the developers about this. Let's see if they come up with a solution.

I use it with Chrome so don't see this problem. Chrome may not be the best browser on Android but I keep going back because of the bookmark sync feature for all devices, regardless of OS. For me, this greatly simplifies managing bookmarks.

Install Chrome. It comes with a resizable widget of its bookmarks, and the bookmarks will open to your default browser, which does not have to be Chrome.

Facebook Chat Head Shortcut - Not able to create (Android Oreo)

anyone also facing the same issue?
on Nougat i can just create a chat head shortcut from Facebook Messenger
but once i updated to Oreo (CLEAN INSTALL, full wipe and all)
i can no longer create any shortcut
- tried to uninstall/reinstall
- tried to be a part of the beta program
- clear cache/data
still same
any resolution would be great
thanks!
Same issue.
Yep I have the same thing.
Beta or not, still missing.
What launcher y'all using? Does it depend on the launcher? ???
Hi, What I have read, it does not depend on launcher, it depends on the OS it self. Oreo for some reason disabled this feature on lots of apps that can make shortcuts like that.
I've encounter the same thing on messenger but this is what i did (see ss) and it works fine now. I hope that's the same thing you mean.
It's in the settings>apps>messenger and look into advance option.
Warrenforfree I think perhaps you've misunderstood the issue here? Apologies if I am wrong. I think you're response is in regards to chat heads not showing over other apps or at all. However, the issue in question is that on devices running the Oreo OS, you are not able to create a shortcut on the home screen to individual chats, similar to the attached image.

yes you are right
surprisingly even on 8.1.0 its not there
I'll tell you why FB removed it ... Chat list now contains advertisements that FB wants you to see :/ If there is no way of duplicating desktop shortcuts then there is no way of doing it :/
Hello, new here and have been looking for a solution to this for about half a year. I'm not sure that FB wanting you to see their ads is the case. I have multiple devices that still allow me to add shortcuts to the home screen except for my main phone. I use Nova Prime on all of them and I am not able to add them on my LG G7. The option isn't even there yet it is on all my other devices. When I switch back to the default launcher I still cannot add a shortcut. I've done the whole uninstall/reinstall/ clear the cache/data thing. Contacted FB. Using a Nova backup from a previous phone, LG G6 which already had the shortcuts it put those on my screen and those work just fine.

Recent Apps reloading while switching all the time!

I recently bought the Honor 10 Lite and everything, from its looks to the performance has impressed me. However, I noticed a very frustrating issue with the "recent apps" function. Every time I try to switch to another app from the list, it reloads all over again instead of opening it in the way it was left.
I did my research and found that tons of other users using EMUI 9.0 or above are facing this and it is happening due to Memory Management. I found and tried all the alternative solutions like lowering the screen resolution, changing the "App Launch" settings to Manual in the battery options, disabling the apps from the "Battery Optimization" settings from the Special Access menu etc. but none of it works. Some have also mentioned to Disable or Uninstall the stock launcher to get back to the Oreo style Recent App card list as a solution. But I am scared to do that, as it can affect the future updates for sure.
It seems like our phone's forum hasn't been quite active so far. Its obvious as its a new device and people are yet to find and talk about issues here. Anyway, there is surely a memory leak which is causing all this. The remaining memory is always below 1 gb which is unusual in a phone with 4 gb of RAM. And it is due to this, the apps are being reloaded in the Recent Apps list to free up more RAM! I really hope Honor will look into this and find a solution in the upcoming update!
Please share your opinion or help out if you are facing the same too. Thanks!

I have an Indian version of Honor 10 Lite. And I am using a different launcher already. So you are saying, I can disable or uninstall the stock launcher and the updates wont be affected? You sure?
I wrote about this to Honor India's official page in Facebook before few minutes. And their reply was quite typical. They wanted me to turn off the android system and transition animations to free up the ram and stuffs. I clearly told them that this was a memory management issue as others described it. But they gave me this irrelevant reply!
I just bought this phone. I mean its just been 2 days. I really dont wish to regret my decision now. The recent apps keeps reloading every time I switch them. Its ridiculous!

Yeah, thats what I said too. I am using another launcher apart from the stock "Huawei Home". I have not disabled or uninstalled the stock launcher yet. Shall I do that? That is what i am asking!
A lot of people have said that uninstalling the stock launcher will free up a lot of RAM and also enable the Oreo styled recent apps card list which will solve this app reloading issue!
I just contacted the Huawei customer care and a lady advised me to record the whole issue and send the video to their service email address. I have shared this EMUI 9.0 issue faced by others as a feedback to them too. Hope they will fix this in the upcoming update!

Hey,
I can confirm this. I've got a model having 3 gb ram. I am using Microsoft Launcher and deactivated everything related to battery to test it out.
1. Closed all my apps via recent apps
2. Then I opened a folder in ES Explorer and went back to homescreen.
3. I went into gallery and watched a video for 60 seconds, back to homescreen.
4. I went into Facebook and read an article for 60 seconds.
5. Going back to Es Explorer (No matter via Homescreen or recent tabs) makes it reload completely.
This definitely is not related to not having enough RAM.
I also can't deactivate my Huawei home, it is greyed out. Right now i am seriously starting to hate that phone.
Alright I got it working more or less by uninstalling Huawei home via adb. it's not perfect (3-4 keep open mostly), but with the switch to card style in recent apps it finally feels not as sluggish as before anymore.

Remove battery saving mode or some apps automatically optimized by phone manager or other solution is to keep that app in app assistant or game mode. UI is made for battery optimization and ram management otherwise you have got stock android
I have this problem too! It's so annoying. The phone is perfect besidd this problem
