Hey guys
My N6 received the OTA update 2 days ago, I live in Australia and my device is rooted. I have downloaded the update then tried to restart and install for the first attempt, and off course it fails because am rooted. I have flashed the stock recovery.img and redownloaded it again, another failure. I have downloaded the OTA for the 3rd time and went to cache folder and took the "update.zip", then tried to flash it using TWRP and it failed. I have also tried the adb sideload and also failed. Below there is the pictures for the sideload procedure. What is puzzling me is that my phone build is "LMY47I" and what I receive is "LMY47Z" , so how can I apply this "update.zip" without wiping my system, I am already running on the stock image but it's rooted. I hope someone can help me out here, thanks everyone.:good::good:
I'm not sure you can be rooted on lollipop to take updates. That could be the problem. Try unrooting.
flash your current versions stock system.img. Lollipop updates don't patch files like the older updates, it does block level patching of the /system so you can't have any changes or the update will fail. On previous versions you could add files to /system and an update would patch the stock /system files and not care you had added other files. Now they patch at the block level so you can't add/delete files, you have to have a 100% untouched /system to take an update.
Download the factory image of what your phone is currently running. Fastboot flash the system.img and then take the OTA. You can then root after updated.
You could also just download the LMY47Z factory image and flash the bootloader, boot.img and system.img and be good to go (root again after). As long as you don't flash the userdata.img or wipe data you retain all your settings/apps/files.

I still have the stock image for the 5.1 om my PC so if I used fastboot to flash the system and radio and bootloader, this won't delete any of my apps or my system??

To "restore" your system to stock, you just need to flash the system.img and recovery.img to take the OTA. To "update" your system to the next version with factory images you would flash bootloader, restart the bootloader, flash the radio, restart the bootloader then flash boot.img and system.img and then reboot the phone. Re-root after.
All Done
Thanks to everyone, all done now, and special thanks to "tcrews" all sorted out now mate, I used fastboot to flash 5.1 (recovery, bootloader, boot and system) then did the same thing for the 5.1.1. I didn't lose any data or apps all working perfectly fine. I had to "Root" the device after, then flashed the "Xposed Firmware". :good: :good:
Yes, thanks as well! I had this issue when the OTA showed up on my Nexus 6 yesterday. Did what vampire_8_7 indicated above, and everything is working with no loss of data or apps. Thanks everyone!
Hi Guys,
very sorry to bump this thread, but i've been trying for 2 days now to follow your instructions to update to 5.1.1 and its failing.
i have a rooted 5.1 using TeamWin software and custom ROM (LMY47D)
can i get a step by step on how to flash the 5.1.1 OTA ?
i tried to reflash 5.1 stock and it failed as well, no idea if i'm doing something wrong.
thanks in advance.

You cannot flash the OTA. You can only flash stock. I also have no idea if you're doing something wrong. Probably though, that is usually the case.

- Fastboot erase system
- Fastboot flash system system.img
- Fastboot flash boot boot.img if you have a custom kernel
- Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img if you have a custom recovery
- Fastboot erase cache and then fastboot flash cache cache.img.
Reboot and sideload the OTA and that should do it because you still have have modified system files on your phone.

Hey mate
The idea is to go complete stock before you flash any OTA, and this can be achieved by just flashing the "System.img" and the "bootloader.img" file to you device.
DON'T FORGET TO TAKE A FULL BACKUP Note: This warning above is more precaution thing, and this method never wiped any data but its good to have the backup always.
You need to download the official stock image for your device, if you have that's fine keep reading through.
Factory Images
You have to extract the image and get the "system.img" and "bootloader.img"
Copy and Paste the "System.img" and "bootloader.img" files in the fastboot folder.
Open the cmd as admin navigate to the directory where the fastboot resides, then start typing these commands.
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-XXXX.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Click to collapse
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Click to collapse
Now you have to copy (Boot.img , bootloader.img, system.img and the radio.img) from the OTA image you have and paste it in the fastboot folder, then you will run the previous 2 commands in addition to these 2 commands below.
fastboot flash radio radio-XXX-XXX.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Click to collapse
After performing this you should have 5.1.1 on your device without wiping any of your personal data or apps.

Thanks a million for the step by step. i think my stock 5.1 is the issue. i'll download the factory image and try again now.
cheers,
EDIT: just finished, and it seems my old 5.1 image was crap. i downloaded a new factory image and did what you mentioned above. now running 5.1.1 and all my old data is there. thanks again, appreciate your time.

No Problems bro. Happy to hear that it worked. XDA is always the place where you can get help
another update for those using TWRP.
TWRP recovery 2.8.7.0 cannot decrypt data for recovery mode, and the 5.1.1 udpate comes encrypted. only way to decrypt is to factory wipe if your device is encrypted and the patternlock/pin doesnt work.
TWRP released 2.8.7.1 yesterday that fixes this issue. this saved me from factory wipe and starting from scratch. also no data needed to be wiped.
^^ just in case anyone is running into the same issue.
cheers,

I always place these img`s in the /android/sdk/platform-tools/ folder, or extract them and right-click/shift copy to path. Then with cmd in fastboot erase system then flash system system.img and fastboot flash recovery recovery.img. Dowloadlink below in my signature Phantasmagoria and extract the downloaded file until you see the img`s.

Dude. Did you even at least download the stock dump? Everything that's needed is in that zipped package. Don't go around asking where the bat file because everything's in there. I'm guessing that either you haven't seen what's inside the package, or you're just lazy enough to look for it.
Better yet, learn how to flash factory images manually so you don't have to ask where that stupid bat file is anymore.

Hi @kalvin, and a Happy new Year to you and all fellow followers of the 2nd gen android one devices. Mine is Cherry Mobile H220, I want to try going back from MM to the zip you posted. Would it be Lazy of me, if I asked you to supply the order of commands I need to get The Zip LUZ59M into the H220?. I have adb /fastboot prog running ok now(I think). In Device manager it shows that I have the necessary drivers installed, Android Composite ADB interface at top, and further down in list Portable Devices shows H220..Phone shows usb debugging connected and usb for file transfer(mtp), (in the dropdown notification list).,So, awaiting maybe a reply from you, Wish I had experimented with version 5.1.1 lollipop, before I accepted last OTA major update,,I,m a real newbie to android one devices, but have used MTK socs before with always success. The adb /fastboot thingy is a new adventure for me. I like this H220 device and dont want to ruin it,. Thank you for your time,, and to you @ vel-tins for answering my last post in another thread, The Xmas holiday period sort of held things up a bit, bending my elbow too much,LOL.....

Any ideas?..Thanks.

@jsab20, No need to root H220 first, I imagine your already in MM 6.0.1 version, (mmb29k). I did not wish to root, because of losing OTA upgrades, Anyway, I failed at first attempt, probably by not going into recovery, and rebooting. I downloaded version IQII from another thread by mrdmacdonald, , done exactly as he recommended and then I had successfully downgraded to 5.1.1. Frequently Asked Questions :
1. Is it compatible with my device?
Yes, as long as you are using an Android One 2nd generation [seed] with a qcom 410 processor (msm8916).
2. Will I still be able to recieve the official OTA updates in the near future?
Yes, as long as you've never rooted, changed recovery, or any other modification on your system.
In case you have rooted your device, all you have to do is reflash the ROM when a new ota arrives and you'll be fine
3. Do I need to Wipe my Data and cache partitions before attempting to install the ROM?
No, but it is recommended especially if you are having too many apps FCs
If you are having apps FCs, try clearing the app data of the affected app, or try hard reset.
If all else fail, do a clean install.
4. Got stuck with "Patching system image unconditionally"?
It might be a bad download
Always verify the hash prior to proceeding (check the howto verify the MD5sum below)
Wipe the system partition just in case
MD5 Signature
How to Verify the MD5 signature?
If you are running Windows just download HashTabs and install. Right click on the downloaded file then click properties and look for "FILE HASHES" tab, verify if md5 hash are the same. On unix based system just execute this line in the terminal "md5sum SPROUT4-STOCK-ROM-LMY47V.zip". On your phone, just use ES explorer and then click properties then tap "Show Checksum" then compare the md5 hash. If the file hashes are identical you are good to go, Otherwise, redownload the file again due to bad probably.

Although we had different Lollipop rom build no., our device and roms are basically the same. Since Android M arrived we all share the same build numbers. How did I know this? By verifying the MRA58Y ota and comparing all the hashes including the radio-modem.img I found out we all share the same Android M stock rom. And lastly, the MRA58M ota will not touch any other partition other than the system, boot and modem, so basically, all you need is the system.img, boot.img and radio.modem.img to be able to update to Android M. The rest of the partitions are useless when it comes to updates

Sorry dude, I cant provide you the stock rom for Lava Pixel v1 since I dont own the device.
@1cefire
Can your TWRP files found here
androidfilehost dot com/?w=files&flid=43419
be used to root Marshmallow?
if yes, which one to use? (i.e. blue, classic, darkplay)
thanks.
@kiksilog
Any recovery will do as long as it runs on this device. Unfortunately, Marshmallow requires a permissive kernel, so far no one has manage to build an insecure kernel for seed without any issue. Even the latest beta supersu with a modded sepolicy boot.img failed to boot. Android M for seed is unrootable for now, hopefully supersu will get an update to support our latest OS
Oi
Android Marshmallow 6.0.1!!!
In case someone might consider upgrading to Android M 6.0.1 MMB29K
- install it via custom recovery philz / twrp / fastboot (visit the first page for more info)
- the rom contains system.img and boot.img only (the only partitions required to upgrade)
- the rest of the partitions were removed and will be provided separately for each device
Huge thanks to @dabotsonline for the link
How about posting the download url of the OTA update 6.0.1 file which I understand is only less than 90 mb? Thanks.. :fingers-crossed:

Hi All,
So Marshmallow 6.0 was just released today for ZD551KL Zenfone Selfie and I had basically trouble upgrading manually since I already have unlocked bootloader and have TWRP flashed instead of the original recovery.img which is needed to do the manual firmware upgrade from ASUS.
Since I no longer have my original recovery.img I was able to find the complete list of recovery.img, I'm glad someone uploaded it and i was able to find it.
If you're having trouble upgrading to Marshmallow from LP because of TWRP installed, flash the stock 1.15.40.1582 first and then flash the ASUS official MM firmware.
The recovery.img can be found here:

I hope this helps.

I think you need to update to latest LP firmware so that boot and recovery img get updated. Then it might not stuck at verifying update package. Although it did took time around 10 minutes in my Z00L to complete verifying image process while upgrading to MM.

well, I've been waiting for about 1 hour. What I did was to install the recovery from this thread then the latest L update, so I can also get the latest recovery, then tried updating to M. Adb sideload doesn't seem to work. I'll try once again.

I have a G7 Plus Retail version on stock ROM, rooted and Magisk installed. Via other threads, I have learned how to manually flash updates by extracting the zip file and then running fastboot command lines. Yesterday, I received an alert that QPWS30.61-21-18-7-8 update is available, via OTA updates on my phone - of course I know I can't run the OTA update, even if I uninstall magisk and restore boot image, etc., but I am wondering if anyone knows where to find this update as a downloadable zip so I can manually flash it? It doesn't seem to be on the mirrors.lolinet.com site where all the other g7 plus stock ROMs are.
I've been into custom ROMs in the past but to me this stock ROM is reliable and un-bloated enough that it's acceptable for my needs.
Is your device xt1965-t by any chance?
Could you back up your unmodified /system in TWRP as an image, and send it to me? It should be QPWS30.61-21-18-7-3 right now. I'd greatly appreciate!
Technically, if you booted TWRP externally and did not decrypt /data, you should be able to replace boot to the unrooted stock, and it would take OTA if all the partitions are stock. Then your current partition of A/B will be QPWS30.61-21-18-7-8, and the other one of A/B will be QPWS30.61-21-18-7-3 (the one you are currently running). At this point you can reroot the boot image for QPWS30.61-21-18-7-8.
See this for some details:

Ok, nevermind then.
But for you - my recommendation is that you put back the stock boot, and see if takes the OTA update. Unless you installed TWRP & decrypted /data, in that case you are out of luck.
All OTA cares about is that partitions that it's about to patch have the original checksums. If they do, it'll proceed.

Yeah, I have TWRP. Therefore I think my only option for the update is to get hold of the zip file, extract it, and manually install it piece by piece (which takes all of 10 minutes to do once I have the file downloaded.)
Hey, when I boot into fastboot I see xt1965-T, which is apparently the non-tmo version since I got it retail direct from moto. Do you need me to backup system or system image and send to you?

Oh, could you back up /system for QPWS30.61-21-18-7-3 as an image if that's what you have? And put it somewhere?
Is your channel RETLA in settings?
I think if you back up your /data (unencrypted I assume?) in TWRP, you could just flash the entire new OS from here:
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmwar...ubsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
Backup of the /data is important in case things go south. You could later pull programs from the TWRP backup using TitaniumBackup. For /sdcard, use TotalCommander, zip it, and if you unpack later, TotalCommander can even restore time stamps if you give it root.
These versions are a bit confusing, that's why I'd rather restore /system, and let it OTA instead of flashing the full ROM. But it does not seem you have this option anymore (if you decrypted /data, your /vendor is probably modified).
Update: If you want, I could give you stock /boot, /recovery, /vendor. But if you are decrypted, you are better off just loading that entire new ROM. If you find a good guide for A/B Moto phones, please let me know (it's important not to mess up A/B stuff).
So it turned out that the RETLA firmware works fine for my phone, which is indeed the xt1965-T. I manually installed the update using the fastboot flash command line for each of the component files, then used fastboot to boot back into TWRP and reinstalled TWRP and Magisk from there.
Where's a good place for me to put that file so you can access it?

Good news! Did you wipe /data too? Or did you keep it? Did you keep the log of commands by any chance? I am still a bit hazy with this A/B business, and as such, want to proceed more carefully than usual
For storage, you can use one of the free options (something like Dropbox or Mediafire, or even Google Drive):
15 Best FREE Cloud Storage & Online Unlimited Drive Space
Cloud storage is a way of storing data online. It requires an internet connection in order to maintain, manage, and share documents, presentations, spreadsheets, images, audio, video, etc. with others

Thanks for the effort!
I ran the commands from the command prompt by extracting the zip file and then putting fastboot.exe into the folder where I put the contents of the zip file:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash oem oem.img
fastboot flash oem_b oem_other.img
fastboot erase carrier
fastboot reboot
Note that this is a "dirty" flash and will leave all your apps, all your data, all your settings intact. Note that you will lose TWRP recovery by doing this.
To get TWRP back, after rebooting and letting the update finish installing, you can go back into fastboot and do a
fastboot boot twrp.img (fill in whatever the name of your twrp boot image is)
This will boot you into TWRP. From there you can install twrp recovery and magisk.
Note - do not do:
fastboot flash twrp.zip - attempting to flash twrp recovery from fastboot will soft brick your phone and you'll have to go back and run all these commands again.

It looks like TWRP can read /data partition now, which is different from when I tried it last time for a moto g6.
I could not use your TWRP system backup since it is not a bit-for-bit "system image" version (it was just a straight system backup with files). It would not restore "dm-verify" checksum to enable OTA. To have a bit for bit one gotta do "system image" in TWRP.
Your list of commands is slightly different compared to flashfile.xml file. You may want to double check that since it seems you've missed some partitions.
I think your original system image may be gone from your phone - depending on A/B situation, so I better use the full ROM and just install it directly (as you did).
Is everything working fine for you with the updated ROM?
Short answer is yes, everything's working fine.
I skipped
fastboot erase userdata
Because I didn't want to erase all my data.
I knew I hadn't used BTFM.bin, frankly, I didn't know what to do with it, so I just skipped it. Now that I realize it's for the bluetooth radio, I have gone ahead and flashed it just now, after the fact. Hopefully this will improve my bluetooth performance a bit...I've found that if this phone is in my hip pocked and I squat down to work on a piece of lawn equipment, my bluetooth gets very choppy.
I also skipped the
fastboot logo logo.bin
because I don't really care about the boot logo when I turn the phone on.
I also pulled a backup (pre-upgrade) of system_image in TWRP...do you think that would work better for you?

Alright, I restored my system with your system image (many thanks!), and put back the stock boot. So it goes through the update (meaning the checksums are good), but then I get the dreaded "software update unsuccessful" message.
You could try this too, put back stock boot/recovery from the ROM, and see if it would update.
Edit: It looks like simply unlocking bootloader makes OTA fail:
"verity mode set to disabled"
I unlocked the bootloader of my G7plus, installed TWRP and then used TWRP to install Magisk. So far, everything is working, root hiding is working as it should and Magisk's "SafetyNet Check" is reporting success. Yay. Almost. a) During the boot...
