Hey guys, I've recently switched over to a Nexus 6 from a Note 4, and have run into an issue with sending text messages under Marshmallow. I often send a reminder text to a good-sized group of people, and when I send it I get a warning from Android that Textra is sending a large number of messages. It then asks if I want to allow or deny the messages. I'd like to disable this behavior, but all of the instructions I've found on how to do so are for older versions of Android and don't work under Marshmallow.
So, any ideas of how to disable this behavior? I'm unlocked and rooted, just don't know where to look...Thanks for any help you can offer!

If you look at the popup there is an option to never show this again. Check that. Other then that it cant be gotten around. It is an anti spam/Security measure set in by google.
EDIT - Misread the OP.
It looks like I may have cracked the code on this issue and found a solution for my device.
Here's what has worked for me on my Galaxy S4 running a custom AOSP Rom. I don't know if this works on the nexus 6. Try this!
1.) Download Terminal Emulator or some other Terminal App
2.) Open Terminal app and grant SU either by prompt or by typing "su" as a command
3.) After SU access is acquired in Terminal Emulator/app type:
settings put secure sms_outgoing_check_interval_ms 0
4.) Reboot!
Let me know if this works for you!
It will still be blocked by the carrier as it is a 2 step deal. First the device blocks it and then the carrier also flags large amounts as spam. We had the same issue and had to go to a messaging app to get around the limit.

Some carriers may block it but AT&T does not. I was using a CM ROM that had it unlocked and I've been sending messages to 200 people at a time. This mod is now working for me on ROMs that do not have it unlocked. YMMV

If it is working then their spam blocker is not working as it should. The blocker was added a few years ago when I was working for ATT and we had to explain it to business users about the limit and advised them to switch to a messaging program.

In that case, I am glad they are not using their spam blocker! I've been using unlocked CM ROMs for years which has allowed me to send broadcast messages to my 200+ member sales team. This mod is now allowing me to use a locked AOSP ROM that I've wanted to use for a very long time. After unlocking sms, I can now send as many messages as I want without getting that annoying pop-up warning. WIN!

hey I tried this on boost mobile and ran into the carrier block. I talked to customer service, I even talked to some pretty knowladgable guys who said he was "heavy programming" to get my sms working lmao. my question to you is two fold.
is there any way to get the carrier to disable the spam filter?
what do you mean when you say messaging program?
thanks in advance

You can ask but they will most likely deny that it is there or just flat out refuse. It is a security thing and thankfully it is in place or we would have spamming sms like the rest of the world does.
As for a messaging program I mean something like Telegram, hangouts or something of that nature.

Unfortunately, it looks like the method I posted is not actually working. Messages sent above 30 were not actually being sent. Oh well... back to using my custom CM 13 based ROM that has increased the sms limit to 200 per minute. It's not totally unlocked but at least I can send more than 30 messages at once without being annoyed by the confirmation prompt. Bummer!

If your device is supported, try flashing a custom ROM like Team OctOS (this is the one I'm using) or Cyanide M which has the limit removed.
This seems fairly odd that there wouldn't be a fix for Marshmallow... I mean, if a custom ROM can implement it, why couldn't a code edit somewhere resolve the issue? I understand that it could be limited on the carrier side, but speaking as someone who likes to occasionally mess with friends using an sms bomber on Verizon, I don't think they do THAT much limiting... Other carriers obviously might be different. Still, I don't understand why it can't be resolved at the phone level at least.

I am currently using another custom ROM created by @side called Optimized CM13 for the Samsung Galaxy S4 where he also removed the SMS limit. Maybe he can provide some answers to your questions. I agree it would be nice if there were an easy way to remove the limit on any ROM you chose.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of upgrading from a Tmobile Dash to a G1 but need to know if there is a program on the Android platform similar to the CallFirewall program on Windows where it will take an incoming call and sends it directly to voicemail if on the blacklist. It's actually a deal breaker for me as I love the flexible whitelist / blacklist options on CallFirewall.
Thanks!
How does that functionality built into the os tickle your fancy?
In every contact entry there's a checkbox that says "send calls to voicemail" it makes it so your phone doesn't ring or show the call, the missed call is in the log but no notification... and best yet to the person on the phone its as if you haven't done a thing... rings all the way to VM

Yes, its by bratag =] requires root access, so root your phone before downloading.

Also, could someone tell me how many contacts the phone will hold?

Android is linux based and the super user account is called 'root', there is various ways to root android phones and you can even buy an ADP (Android Developer Phone) which comes by default with super user access enabled.

Android (not just G1) uses SQLite to store information and depending on ram etc it's for all intents and purpose limitless.
Cool, thanks about the contacts.
Still not sure what the root thing means, but with a built in call blocker I guess it doesn't really matter

[Q] [PATCH REQUEST] Add ADD "SENDING NETWORK TIMESTAMP" OPTION to received SMS
Dear all,
the problem is simple...as is possible to notice, when sms arrive the displayed time is the received and not the sent one...
this fact is valid for all the new generation smartphones, iPhone included..
=> I really hate this fact because sometimes happens that my phone is off or it has not signal and, after the signal is back again, I receive tons of SMS with the same time....and perhaps some of them all already "expired" since they are referred to a past event...
old phones like Nokias, ecc. displayed ALWAYS the "sent time" and not the "received one"...
I've seen that has been already opened an issue on the Android Dev Code : http ://code. google. com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2989
what is more interesting to observe is that seems the base SMS application (but also Handcent SMS) uses the local handset time for the date called thru System.currentTimeMillis()...(http ://code. google .com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2989#c40)
and, as I've seen ([http ://code. google .com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2989#c39) it is possible to set the "network time" using the Android.Telephony.smsMessage.getTimestampMills()
now..could someone look into this issue and try to write a patch for our Galaxy S (but also for other phones should be the same..)? because I've not so much time and I'm not very familiar with Android code..
thank you very much,
Alessandro

please...could someone consider this? don't you think it's an interesting feature?
I would like this feature .
I for one would welcome this change.
I'll try to write some code today and see if I can read the timestamp.

I would like to see this in action too. I'm fed up of Android not supporting some of the most basic cell phone features .

oh... i used to view the properties of the msg to read the sent time with nokix, already forgot that it should be sent time but not rec time
Where is possible to find the sources of the native Android SMS application?
Could anyone post them (or something similar?)..then I'll try to hack the code
If i remember correct, the HTC Desire did not have this issue with default sms client.
Hope someone will find a fix for this annoying issue soon.

Hi everyone,
We (Viber) are just as excited as you are for our new beta.
We're thankful for your feedbacks, and hoping you are finding it useful!
A few messages and clarifications:
1. Although I'm following this thread, we would like to ask you to post all your technical issues and suggestions in our official Android webpage: blog.viber.com/viber-beta-support
2. For those who are not receiving the code or getting the error message saying they need to subscribe: the only way for you to successfully install our beta is to have subscribed, and wait for our official invitation email. Otherwise your email and number won't have been activated, thus you're blocked (we didn't want our .APK to simply be open to EVERYONE in the world). Please wait patiently. It might take up to a week, but you should eventually receive the email and use it freely.
3. If you haven't subscribed in the official way yet, you can still do it here and wait for our email: eepurl.com/bW1Ln
For other info or questions, I'm here!
Best regards,
Viber.
I registered even before december last year and didnt get a beta invite yet... so probably its still too early to get really excited, as there are thousands of people that registered later... especially over the last time.
Makes only sense of course if they send out the codes in the order as people registered.
EDIT:
I have to correct myself. i never got an invite email from viber, but using the email i used back then to subscribe i could register here http://www.viber.com/android-beta/ without any problems. i just had to try some email addresses as i didnt know anymore which one i used back then. I didnt recive a sms but the activation call worked without any problems.
So yeah, even if you didnt get an invitation mail it might work. And YES, i checked my spamfolder before!

Well i think we need that icon to see if the Viber Server in ONLINE or OFFLINE i like it !
I found a problem VIBER , when someone calls me when i try to Accept the call i have to touch the Accept button and wait a little then swipe it to right side, if i swipe immediately the call is Rejected and doesnt inform the other side (the caller) that i Rejected his call.

Hello,
I send a lot of text messages to nearly 200 contacts on a semi regular basis. I have an excellent app that does it well. The only issue is I constantly get permission messages saying I'm sending too many and if I wanna authorize more, its very annoying and if I don't accept it as soon as it comes up, will usually delay my messages.
So my question is, how do I remove/change that SMS limit on Android 5.0? IRS definitely baked into the OS cause as I said, any SMS app gets the same issue.
All help and thoughts appreciated!

PS: I tried a couple SMS limit apps on the Play Store, nothing updated for lollipop yet.

Sure, but I also understand its an adjustment somewhere in a system database file to change the limit, I found instructions for a Galaxy S3 phone, but its not in the same place. I was hoping one of the devs of said Roms could point me to the right file so I can adjust it manually on stock.

My phone is rooted and I'm on Dirty Unicorns 5.02. I'm not sure what system you're on but I've sent out 150 messages without an issue using Group SMS Pro. It will ask me to Wait or Kill the app while sending bulk sms, but I hit Wait and everything goes through. Also, I don't send much more than 200 messages at a time because even on KitKat that seemed to be an issue.
So? Did it work?

So? Did it work? I think not, but your promised update would be appreciated.
I to would like to figure out how to work around this limit. I am on Benzo rom 5.1 and under settings/security you can select 30, 50, 100 or 200 but it's a dead setting apparently because I can select 50, 100 or 200 and I still have to approve any text over 30. Did you figure out how to fix it? I tried the linked google play apps to get around but no luck so far
Flash a custom rom - like what was posted in post #2.
Other than that, you're probably out of luck, OP. Just do what anyone else here would do if they *just have to have that ability* - flash the rom.
Thanks for the reply but I will NOT flash LS because everytime I have tried it it borks my phone and I've been dumb enough to try it "one more time" too many times and paid the price. I know it's probably something I'm doing and not the roms fault but done with that one..........:cyclops:
I went back and looked at the app posted above called SMS Limit Unlock and played around a bit more. I changed the Restriction cycle time and Restriction message amount settings a few times when I was in there before but never clicked on 'Unlock'. I did that this time and it went thru a progression and then said I needed to reboot for settings to take hold. I sorta forgot that step before thinking the Unlock was to convert to the paid version of the app. I rebooted just in time to give it a try and it worked exactly as it should so I got it to work correctly.
Figured I'd post this in the thread so in case someone else does a google search on SMS limit problems and they get directed to this thread as I did, hopefully this will work for them as well. I am on Benzo 5.1 and it worked...... Yippeeeee

1. Root Phone
2. Download/Install a Different SMS(texting) app from the Google Store
I chose to use the 'Go SMS PRO app
3. Download a Root Uninstaller
I used 'Root Uninstaller Free'
4. Uninstall the stock SMS app, it's called 'Text Messaging' I believe. Can't quite remember
5. Profit!!! Just remember to check the setting in your new SMS app for any limit. In Go SMS PRO you can turn off any limit or have it save upto 100+ texts and then start deleting old ones.
I'm not really sure if uninstalling the stock app can actually cause problems, but a few people told me it Could.
It obviously worked fine on Android 5.0

You won't see a difference unless the person you are texting has a RCS capable client too.

I updated and turned on chat features. I'm not seeing any difference whether I'm texting Android or iPhone users?*

Works only with Google Message app and RCS enabled on both sides. No real interest
Sorry for my ignorance, but I but are you guys saying your able to get the chat feature to work or no? I'd long to use it if the chat function worked

It's working, but amongst my several hundreds contacts only one uses it. On the contrary everyone has WhatsApp, which is really cross platform, independent fully from phone operators. Concerning safety going through Facebook versus going through Google I don't see the difference.
So as I said earlier, this technology is 5 years too late, everyone is used to something else.

Yeah it won't even give me the ability to turn Chat features on in the beta version or regular version it's nice when I'm flying I can text my wife over Wi-Fi without having to download What's App or use Facebook Messenger

I came across this article on Reddit and I found this in my build prop
persist.radio.multisim.config=dsds
DS DS for dual SIM I guess
persist.rcs.supported=0
That article didn't mention anything about the second prop I found change DS single on the top one and then change the 02 a1 cross my fingers and reboot
When I had my pixel and my Nexus phones I could use the chat function for iPhone users or anybody hooked to Wi-Fi I was texting because I would get send and read receipts it only during chat was I able to get those.

Don't try this with your OP6T, you will get stuck in a bootloop after restsrt.

I changed the RCS supported to a 1 then cleared data for messages and carrier config...no bootloop for me, but I didn't mess with the Sim I instead placed my sim into slot 1 berfore I tried
It allowed me to sign up for chat then it said standby for verification code I wish they sent me and no I have the chat screen looking like this and it is working. It has been solid ...I was only comfortable with 1 config change after I did a prop config back up

Did you also change that dsds to none as linked in you post? After I rebooted it would only boot into TWRP and file explorer did not show a build prop file.

I tried it but I did it through build prop editor and instead of putting DS DS I put single and placed simit in slot one. That works for me just fine included as well but now I am running DS DS back in that part of the prop file along with the enable RCS set to-1
So basically I made a change the first time I attempted it on the Sims slot but I changed it back and set it up as dsds
You have voice over Wi-Fi enabled? I've been reading a lot of things about Android 10 flashing a lot of guys say if you get a boot loop shut it off and try to reboot again. That if that doesn't work I'll go to recovery wipe the dalvik/art only then reboot. The other thing I have done I forgot about this I set my selinux to permissive for a sound mod I'm running so that may play a part in it?
