FreedomPop now sells the HTC Desire 510. I bought it for my daughter thinking that 4GB would be enough storage for her, but when I ran my first round of app updates, the phone's storage filled up! I checked it out and there is so much bloat on the phone, that it can't be usable for a little girl who might want to install an app or game or two.
I have rooted it and tried Link2SD, but it won't auto mount an ext3 or ext4 partition on boot and therefore, the apps moved to the SD card can't be found when the phone boots.
I'm assuming the problem is with the kernel.
Ordinarily I would just put a custom ROM on a phone and be done with it, but FreedomPop uses some unique network settings that make it difficult to just replace a ROM.
My question is whether anyone has this phone on FreedomPop and what you are doing to make it into a usable phone?
Are you using a custom kernel?
If you are using a custom ROM, how did you configure the FreedomPop settings?

I'm trying to do the same thing myself. I've tried a couple of kernels. I can get the Link2SD to work but then the front camera won't work.
There are several recommendations to use Rhinestone. So I tried the latest version of that but it breaks the WIFI for me and that won't due for freedompop.
I'll keep trying but nothing works the way I would like so far.

No. Apparently, no one has figured this out.
RaptorSense 7
From testing, RaptorSense 7 seems to be the most stable ROM
Link2SD is mostly functional. The only issue, is with the 2nd partition mount script, and thus, the linking features. This is an s-on related issue.
Move to SD works GREAT. but, there is much potential here.
The only other issue, is you must change your wireless settings to global as the preferred network, by holding down the mobile data setting until it's advanced settings pop up, and selecting global as preferred network. This is what I have read from the only other person I have found to post about testing this rom on this device. My HTC Desire 510 is not activated. So I could not test the connectivity and data first hand beyond wifi.
Everything else seems to work.
We need to figure out s-off for this device, or we are kinda stuck with just the simple features of Link2SD, and still stuck with some bloatwear, some of which are discontinued HTC Research products. At least on the Raptor Sense 7 rom..
Solution ~ It Worked for Me
First, I am very new to rooting, so I really have no idea what I'm talking about, but I had this problem yesterday, and I no longer have it.
With that in mind, I was having the same issue, and tried a ton of different random things that didn't work. I basically came to the conclusion that the issue had something to do with the kernel. Anyways, I still don't really know what a kernel is, but I read somewhere that in order to mess with settings like these, you had to flash a sprint kernel with the write protection removed.
I did this by following the instructions from the following forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/des...print-virgin-mobile-stock-desire-510-t2958969
At any rate, I'm pretty sure this is what did it for me (although I may have done some other things that I didn't understand / can't remember) and I hope it works for you too!
Best of luck
Edit:
By "it worked for me", I mean that Link2SD is now able to mount the ext2 partition that I created on my microSD at boot.
I'm in the same boat - does anyone have any ideas on how to make this freedompop 510 a little more useful? I don't have room to do anything. Thank you!
Is there a way to get more space in the data partition without having to use Link2SD? The big problem with this phone is the overwhelming amount of bloatware.

Well, I added that kernel to my phone and I noticed the phone got super hot and the wifi stopped working. After rebooting, it got stuck in an unsolvable bootloop, bricking it without being able to fix it.
Raptor Sense 1.2
I have the Sprint variant of the HTC Desire 510 and everything is working plus the phone is for the first time usable and stable. Link2SD is able to mount ext2 partitions on this phone with no problem. No success with ext3 or ext4 partitions. I used the steps found here on xda to partition the microSD Card. Have tried many ROMs with varying results. Some things would work and others would not. Have settled on Raptor Sense 1.2 until something better comes out.
That's odd. I've tried 1.2 but I can't seem to get link2sd to work, but it works fine in version 1.0

You can tell market apps to download on you sdcard.
http://addictiveblogs.com/how-to-move-all-android-apps-to-sd-card-without-rooting-device/
adb shell pm get-install-location
After Android Tools Update command
adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2
It does appear that you have to have enough space on your data partition before market will download app. It will then end up on your sdcard.
But the data partition still fills up. Don't know who is doing the filling.
I've been playing around with the linux redirect command to try to move some stuff to the sdcard.
see
ln -s <where to go in the future> <old place your are replacing>
work in progress for me.
& I haven't figured out how to do a backup of my system yet. Titanium backup want to backup to the data partition. Guess they want you to buy the pro version. Should just say it's a demo version.

Actually, found out my /storage/emulated/legacy partition is giving me out of storage too. lnk2sd showed:
/data
total 1.11gb used 0.99gb free 119mg
/storage/emulated/legacy
total 1.01gb used 0.99gb free 17.88mg
/storage/ext_sd
total 3.63gbused 74.19mb free 3.56gb
The location /storage/emulated/legacy
is what I see in setting > storage [ the first instance ]
17.89mg
seems this is the problem. Seems this is contains app profile information. This storage space increases when you go into the app and clear settings or ditch the app.

Hello, I would like to know what steps that I can take to increase the performance of android on my vogue. I am using myn's warm donut rom, with the system installed on the nand and the data installed on my ext2 partition on my sd card. I have heard that Its a good ideal to enable swapping, but I do not know how to enable it. I already have my 8GB class 6 sd card partitioned with one fat partition, one 256MB ext2 partition, and one 1GB ext2 partition (for Data). If anyone has any suggestions or tips, please let me know. Thanks!
PS: is there a way to overclock my vogue while using android? I have tried using the clock.sh file from mssmison's legendary build, but that didn't work.
EDIT: Can i use an ext3 or ext4 instead of ext2 for the partitions on the sd card?
Soon there will be an app for overclocking. Myn is currently working on it.
Other that that, make sure you're always on the latest nbh and Myn release.
Get yourself a task manager and be mindful of what processes you actually need.
Use clearcache often.
go into dev tools/development settings and set the window and transition animation to OFF. i noticed that not only does everything open super quick but it did increase the overal performance
you can't use ext3 or 4 no. First thing is to make sure if you are running data on your sdcard that you are using a fast sd card (not a cheap one).
That's what is giving you the biggest performance hit right now.
There is an OC app coming but to be honest it really should be running quite snappy for you.
Thanks guys for all of the info. I have just one more question. should I enable swapping on my android? Advanced task manager usually reports that I have around 46-40MB of free ram.
If you have a lot of free memory already, there is no reason to use swap.
Ok, I have one last question (I apologize if I'm being a bit annoying). I tried installing and using Adfree on my vogue, but when I run it, it says "Cannot locate the 'cat' util on your system". Does anyone know how I can fix this? also, when my phone is connected to my charger, my phone's 3g speeds are really good, but when It's not on the charger, the 3g slows down. Normally I'm ok with it, but it may make playing some games online a bit more difficult when off the charger. Is there some way I can fix this? Thanks!

Hi there,
So my N1 is rooted and has SuperOSR rom installed. The native app2sd that comes with the rom failed to work, so I disabled it and went back to the method I was using on CM7, Link2sd. I need a method to move apps/cache/lib files to sd-ext, as the tiny internal storage on the N1 is insufficient to hold even a 10th of the apps (and their data) that I have installed. And Link2sd has, at least in the past, been the perfect option to do so.
At first, all seemed well after installing and setting up Link2sd. Mount scripts were created with no problems, apps/cache/lib files all moved over to sd-ext without a hitch. Everything was going really well. Until I rebooted. Then, all hell broke loose.
The problem is this - for some reason, the second partition (sd-ext) is not being mounted during boot time. I'm not sure why, as this is exactly what the Link2sd mount scripts are supposed to accomplish. A Link2sd "mount warning" notice confirmed this problem, saying that "since 2nd partition was not mounted during boot time, linked apps will be invisible to the system until quick reboot". Indeed, every app that I had linked was not visible to the system, and most widgets on my homescreen showed only the message "problem displaying widget".
Luckily, a way to temporarily fix this is by simply quick-rebooting the rom. This will get the linked apps to show up again. But the problem is, widgets are still dead, input method gets reset (goes back from Swiftkey to native Android keyboard), and SMS gets reset back to the standard android SMS app. Of course, all of this can be changed back, but it takes time and effort to load each individual widget and restore each individual input/sms setting. It's really not practical every time you have to reboot your phone that you have to:
1. Quick-reboot the rom
2. Change input method back to Swiftkey
3. Manually restore every widget on your home screens
4. Change sms app back to Go sms.
So, my question is, how do I avoid having to do all this? I've already tried the "re-create mount scripts" option on Link2sd, but it doesn't matter. Still have the same errors upon rebooting phone every time. I'm pretty sure this means that the Link2sd mount scripts are either not being created correctly, or are being deleted every time the phone reboots. How do I fix this? Trying to get in contact with the developer of the app (bakpinar) has proven unsuccessful.
Does anyone know of any other scripts that I can flash/install that will successfully and consistently mount the 2nd partition (sd-ext) during boot time? I'm fairly certain that this is all I need, as everything else with Link2sd has been working correctly. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Ok, so since I haven't gotten any responses on this, I'm going to attempt two methods that i THINK might remedy this issue. The first one is this:
Method 1:
1. Full wipe and reinstall of SuperOSR rom
2. Format sd-ext to ext3 filesystem (found out that rom's native app2sd program wouldn't work due to my sd-ext partition being FAT32)
3. Enable rom's native apps2sd option upon booting.
4. Reboot
5. Install Link2sd from market, enable dex/lib file linking ONLY (native apps2sd program only moves app files, not dex or lib). Going to be interesting to see what link2sd says about the mounting scripts...
6. Reboot, collect results.
The 2nd method I'm going to try is this.
1. Full wipe and reinstall of SuperOSR rom.
2. Flash DTAPPS
3. Boot into ROM
4. Download and install test applications
5. Collect results
I'm not sure if either of these methods will work, however I know the 2nd method worked for CM. I will update a bit later as to which method (if any) fixed the issue. Sorry for the double post.
I commented to the ROM cook nelo360 a while back that there are some strange sd-ext mounting issues. If you look at the dmesg as it boots, it does post some strange error messages. Essentially, ext3 mounts as ext2, and ext4 mounts as ext3. Despite it not mounting as the proper format type, it still works.
Since the ROM is pulled off of AOSP, as CM is too, sort of, much of the same apps2sd apps probably work decently well.
Definitely need an ext3 or ext4 partition. As I'm understanding your post, that did not happen initially, and is crucial to many apps2ext to work, including the built-in one.
Really? Ext4 as 3 and ext3 as 2? Well that would explain why Link2sd was having issues. Hmm.
What I ended up doing was fully wiping the phone, flashing the rom, and then immediately afterwards flashing DTAPPS. Using the GUI interface found on the market, I moved apps to sd-ext and cache to sd-ext as well. The result has been mixed. While there was noticeably more space initially to install apps (something like 190mb internal), that space has declined at almost as fast a rate as when I had no apps2ext of any sort installed at all. This makes me think that while DTAPPS successfully moved some of the initially installed apps over to the sd-ext, it hasn't been moving any new ones i've installed or their cache files. I tried re-moving apps/cache with the gui interface and by using the old-fashioned terminal emulator method, but had no success. Still looking at about 100mb free space on internal. Considering that I only have about 1/4 of the apps installed that I usually have installed on my phone at any given time (I use A LOT of apps), it's become apparent that soon I am going to run out of space again.
As I can't find any method to fix this, I'm afraid I'm going to have to call it quits with this ROM and try something else. Which is a real shame, because stability-wise this ROM beats Cyanogenmod and other ROMS I've tried hands down, while not sacrificing many features. I guess for a user who doesn't use a lot of apps or need a lot of space for them, this ROM would be ideal. Unfortunately, I'm not that type of user.
One problem I've found is that with any automatic apps2sd/ext system is the control of what is actually on the SD vs. internal memory is hard to work out.
With the built in apps2sd, which you seem to have trouble with, not every app was transferred to ext. I found that with the built in system, my internal memory kept dropping until it hit 25 mb or so. However, it never really dropped below that. Everything I kept installing probably went to the ext partition. I installed a lot of apps, and it wasn't an issue. (But you're right, it may not be as many as you want).
I didn't have a great way to check this though. Root explorer showed both the data/apps/ folder and the sdcard/ext folder linked together, so it just listed everything together. I'd have loved a way to actually manually transfer whatever apps were on internal memory to ext, but never found an easy way to do so, or even to confirm what was in which directory.
So even though it looks like the internal memory is steadily and quickly dropping, if you continue to install, and have the two directories appropriately linked (sorry, I don't know what the difference between all the different kinds of scripting apps2sd are), I don't think you'll run out of space as quickly as you think you will.
I was tinkering round this morning and looked into my devices storage and saw that 27gb of 32gb were being used.
Did some math on my own:
Apps: 2.82gb
Music: 3.23gb
Photos: 1.12gb
Other: 19.85gb:
-Nandroids: 9gb
-Titanium Back up 1gb
2 roms: 1.5gb
Somewhere in the "Other" category something is eating up 9gb of space. I used my file explorer and couldn't pin anything that big down. I am going to offload my nandroids but I shouldn't have to.
Anyone else run into this or know what this 9gb "other" hog could be
Is there an app or system setting I am missing to ID this?

Your 'other' is really suspicious. Mine is ~7GB. I'd do a factory reset, easiest way IMO.
If you're flashing roms or doing backups with any other apps (CWM or something). I'm guessing they would go there. Check your download folder as well if you do a lot of downloading.
You may also try installing airdroid and using the desktop filemanager to whittle down your list as well.
Download Disk Usage. It shows you visually whats taking up space. It's amazing.
Thanks for advice using disk usage. I don't know why I didn't reinstall that sooner.
I did some digging and searching around the interwebs and found out this is a known issue. Other people have noticed it in droves. From my early intel: when you delete files you lose data blocks and they are marked as bad. If you ran dsk chk they would come up as corrupt. People are losing more storage space than I did.
2 solutions came up:
1. Reformat your SD: Copy everything to PC>reformat>copy everything back....time consuming but worked from what I could tell
2. There is an update that has been released overseas(asia, india, etc) that seems to fix this issue. It's a known HTC ONE issue so maybe someday I will see an update that will fix it.
If you are experiencing the same thing you can do some light reading:

I couldn't just let this rest. I like to flash roms and knew I would need strorage space for some nandroids in the future. Here are somethings I tried and had issues with.
Formatting the SD card: I could not for the life of me get this done.
-Nothing in TWRP
-Couldn't do it in windows
-Couldn't mount the sd in TWRP or regularly and get it to show up in windows file explorer as a drive to format
Eventual solution:
I formated the data in TWRP using the format data option. I copied everything over before I did it. When I came back I flashed a new rom and was still missing 7 gb. No apps, no music, nothing. SD card was empty still only showed 25 gb available.
Conclusion: I think I have some bad sectors in their somewhere. I read that I could go back completely to stock and try to star this whole process over.
One question: Can I unlock using HTCdev as many times as I want or is it a one time thing?
Anyone else in the same boat?

If you go back completely to stock, your bootloader will probably still be unlocked (unless you relock and use an RUU). The code you got to disable your bootloader the first time around will work however many times you want. To be honest though, I wouldn't be surprised if that 7GB were used by the system ROM/frameworks and I'd be even less surprised if you still found files on your SD card in a .Trashes folder or something from earlier. Formatting data tends to leave weird remnants all over the place.
Also, +1 to the Google Music thing. Definitely shows up in other for me.

Do you have a custom recovery? If so, try running Fix permissions. It'll tell you for one if it hits any errors (because it finds files it can't change perms for), and may help with the issue (or use the Fix permissions tool in ROM Manager if you'd rather not use recovery).

I've been having the same problem, but notice something interesting. My phone said I had almost 20GB in the other category, and I didn't know why.
I downloaded disk usage to get a detail view of what's going on in my storage and I was able to clear 12GB with just deleting old downloads, TWRP backups, Titanium Backups. Still cleaning house.
Also after doing some research, the data that's stored by your apps (ext. PS3 Trophies is a 8mb download, buts it's total size is 31mb on the phone) is counted in the Other section and not part of the app data. So the more apps u have like this installed, the more likely the Other section will balloon in size.
Remember, when u remove and app, it's stored data is still in the phone storage.

I use disk useage but it doesn't even show my max storage space as 32gb. It shows 26gb. See Screenshot: So I have 6gb that aren't even registering as available storage. I was trying to clean out some old app storage but the space they use is so small. Would they be worth it? I think the fact I am missing 6 gb is more troubling.

Is OTG standard in Android? Does the One need to be rooted?
so lost!! please help!
hello there
i have the galaxy s3mini GT- 18190N
uk resident
carrier T-Mobile
android version 4.1.2
kernel version 3.0.31-1436784
ive had the phone for some time now and obviously internal space has became a problem so i looked around the net and it seemed that the first thing i must do was to root the phone....
i rooted with the main intention of being able to put my apps into my 32gb extsd card
secondly to perhaps upgrade the OS to say lollipop
thirdly to maybe try out some of these custom roms ive read so much about.
so i did root the phone using kingroot app, this seemed to help with the speed of the phone/reduced lagging and such but not with internal memory.
i then looked around for a solution and the general answer was to install link2sd and app2sd.
i installed both but had no joy due to no 2nd partition on sd card.
this led me to downloading rommanager (which apparently can create a 2nd partition on the etxSD) well this is when i realised my noobness knew no bounds, because for the life of me i cant seem to be able to do it lol
i looked around again and read as much as i could in regards to creating a 2nd partition on the extSD but again have not found a clear (complete and utter noob proof) guide to do this so am now stuck in limbo
ive read so much this last few days about flash/roms/internal sd/internal phone memory/external sd/nands/backups/backdowns/backflips ect. that i feel completely lost.
i understand this is probably a very tedious request to you more educated folk but what i would like to know is:
1 - can i return my phone to stock settings? (what it was like before i rooted) will this delete all the changes ive made and apps ive downloaded? and is this the best idea? to start all over again from scratch? if so how?
or can i download a custom rom that already has these settings? by settings i mean the ability to move my apps to the external SD? if so, how?
im really sorry for being a pain but my brains gonna explode.
please help
thank you
anyone that can help me please
I had your same problem twice. I just forgot to set the new partition "active".. Did you already check if the partition is primary and active?

hey thanks for the reply!
erm.... how would i do that exactly?
ive downloaded rom manager and tried to create a second partition using that, but that doesnt seem to work either?
i am close to just giving up to be honest, got a 32gb sd card and it just sitting there gathering dust while my internal memory is sucked dry of any space.

You can create and manage partitions with your pc, you just need an adaptor and than you can use "MiniTool Partition Wizard Free" that is a free partition manager tool! :good: Right click on the partition and then "set active" (both partition are primary, but one fs is EXT4 and the other one is Fat32, set active the ETX4 one) :good:
Hi all,
I recently purchased an unlocked sprint HTC 510 Desire, and was surprised when I was notified that I didn't have enough storage to install a fraction of the apps I had on my old phone. I was aware of the lowly 4gb of internal storage, but I just assumed that if I had free space on my SD card, I would have no issues. Well, I soon discovered my error and went about looking for a fix. So I figured I would root my phone. (I was going to post the article I followed to root my phone, but apparently I'm not allowed to post urls yet. But it's the digital endpoint guide ~ How to Root the HTC Desire 510)
I then tried to install Link2SD and was shocked when it didn't work. I have partitioned and re-partitioned my sd card, tried all of the different options for formatting, and nothing has worked. The app recognizes the partition, but it is unable to mount at boot, so while I can link apps, they disappear upon reboot (very inconvenient). I've done a fair amount since then trying to get this app (or other apps with similar features to work, but haven't gotten anything to work. It looks like the error lies somewhere with the init.d scripts (or lack thereof), and I was wondering if somebody could help me with finding a way to install/enable those scripts so that I can install more than just the system apps on my phone.
I have very little experience with rooted devices, so please keep replies rather mundane. That said, I'm a teenager so I'm pretty good with technology and figuring things out and whatnot. At any rate, like I said, I followed the above procedure to root my phone, so I have whatever ROMs and Kernels that that yields. I have flashed a copy of BusyBox (because the app was unable to install it, again for some unknown reason) if that helps. I have looked around online for hours, but nothing I have found has worked.
Please please please help me to get Link2SD to work, or provide me with another working alternative to expand my internal storage with an SD card (my card is 32GB).
Thank you so much in advance!
Your device is write protected. Unlock the Bootloader, install TWRP, flash the write-protection removed Kernel
It's all right here in the forum. Probably would have taken less time to search for an answer than it took to write your discourse.
i have tried all the write-protection removed Kernels but all returned with mount error in link2sd. please help. thank you.
