Hello! I want to go straight to the point:
I'm on Resurrection Remix 5.5.9 (CM 12.1 based) and I want to lower the minimum brightness available for my phone's screen without an app, has anyone ever had a succesful method to achieve this? I do have root access and kernel settings access but I can't seem to find a setting to get what I want. The stock minimum brightness is good aswell but lowering it will let me have a longer battery life, I suppose...
So, anyone can recommend me to do anything about this? Again I'm underlining it I don't want to use an app
check this out, I hope it'll help. My minimum brightness is slightly lower with this 'mod'.
gravitybox can set minimum brightness to 1

I find that the auto-brightness on our phone doesn't reduce to the minimum possible! Is there a setting I'm not seeing?
I always use the widget to control it because it can take it much lower than the auto brightness does.
...so are there any fixes, or would we need a custom kernel to be able do that?
Auto brightness is just very inefficient. I've been using manual brightness on this and my previous phone for a long time. You could use an app such as Screen Filter which reduces the brightness, but it seems to make the colours look a bit washed out to me.
With regards to a custom ROM or kernel, I have no idea whether this would help, but I've never seen changes to the auto brightness function on any previous custom ROM I've ever used.

From what i know, You would need a custom Kernel.. try getting ' My Settings ' From market ... gives as much control as possible to ur stock ROM for screen brightness as possible along with a host of other useful toggles.
Be sure to add a SHORTCUT onto ur home screenm for easy access
it has improved my battery life quite a bit !
I don't understand how they could screw up such a simple thing!
I'm running froyo... does gingerbread fix the auto brightness?
Has anyone else noticed their D3 on stock ROM min brightness is 11%? I noticed since getting my D3 that it has always been pretty bright, even at min brightness level. And using the brightness toggle from Beautiful Widgets, I saw that the two options were 11% and 100%. Is this just the widget, or is the stock ROM set up to keep brightness at this minimum level?
I use my phone in the dark a lot and it kills my eyes to look at it for too long, so I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get the brightness down any lower without switching to a custom ROM. I am rooted, of course.
Thanks for any ideas/solutions.

Brightness Widget Backlight, in the market should work. It's has configurable steps that can go down to 1%. I'm using it on CM7 and can get it lower than the lowest brightness setting.
You can lower it with Quick Settings, but a reboot changes it back. The lower brightness appears to be used when the display dims from inactivity. If you are already on the lowest factory brightness setting it can still dim some more. Thats the only purpose I see of it.
I use Brightness Level from the market and it allows you to go lower than stock does. I believe that it keeps settings after reboot as well.
Sweet, awesome replies.
Lookup screen filter, and should be on the market if I remember correctly.

I just installed and tried Brightness Level and it doesn't allow brightness levels to go below the lowest stock level. I see no purpose to that widget since the Power Widget for android allows brightness level adjustment.
I'd love something that allows for true adjustment from 1% to 100% on the stock ROM.

Screen filter rocks - been using it since I got my D3 back in November.
So I have a rooted ATT atrix.
The screen brightness is awesome for some things but way too bright for others.
My question: Is there some way to lower the brightness settings even further than the lowest stock brightness?
I know that on certain custom roms you can go into the sys files using ES Explorer and change values there, but I'm not an expert in any sense,
I would like to keep the automatic brightness adjustment intact, just lower the range of brightness
If I navigate to /sys/class/backlight/lcd-backlight/ then I can edit the file "brightness" to value of 1 which lowers the brightness significantly. The default minimum value seems to be 21.
When I do edit this value, then allow the screen to auto adjust brightness, the value goes back to 21.
I don't know where to set the range for the auto brightness.
I think lowering the range will save my eyes at night and also potentially save some serious battery

I guess using this app will get what I want done. it'll just take some personal calibration

Hi, I want to reduce the light brightness of my TX lower than that of manual. My rom is rooted LT29i 9.2.A.1.205 4.3.
I tweaked framework-res.apk
framework-res \res\values\integers.xml
<integername="config_screenBrightnessSettingMinimum">1</integer>
<integername="config_screenBrightnessSettingMaximum">245</integer>
<integername="config_screenBrightnessSettingDefault">60</integer>
<integername="config_screenBrightnessDim">1</integer>
But It doesn't seem to work. What can I do? If I need to tweak another system APPs?
The last line is what dims your screen before it turns off automatically. I suggest leaving this one the way it was.
Also, most likely these lines only work for manual brightness, not the automatic one.

Thanks for your answer:good: I just want to know how to reduce the minimum of manual brightness. I tweaked those values, but it didn't seem to work. I didn't change the values of auto brightness, however, The minimun of manual brightness is always brighter than that of auto brightess.
I think the drivers of display brightness are in the kernel
So your changes had no effect
hello. i am having trouble with this option. on some ROM's it is easy enough to disable. but with others, disabling it causes the screen to go darker then 0 brightness.
i find this and was changing this... /sys/devices/mdss_dsi_panel/cabc
in that file is a value you can change between 1 and 0. 1 being the default on position.
all-in-all, i would just like to somehow disable CABC and also keep brightness control not going darker then 0. manually settings the brightness while CABC is set to 0 does nothing. it is possible to increase brightness by using an app/mod to increase minimal brightness levels, but that is only a work around.
at the moment i am using [ROM] eXistenZ Premium Final 9.5.5 Z1 5.1.1 .236 Lollipop By XsHaWnX.
any help appreciated

Looks like something you should discuss with the rom developer.
Heavily tuned roms tend to show strange behavior in some cases - this seems to be one of them.
okay. well, i will send a message. thank you
