(q) root xt1058 att, any news? - Moto X Q&A

Hi everyone. It's been some time with my moto i've trying to root it with no good news. Is there any new pie or something to root disabling write protection, and/or unlocking bootloader? Android v4.4.2, locked BL. Never got ota.
Thanks a lot

Can I still root if I update?

Or do I have to root and acquire an update another way?

Yes you can root after the OTA update. I rooted mine after doing the update with the Root Kit (see Dev section).
OK thank you!

FYI, Nexus devices are never locked down. You are always free to unlock the bootloader, root it, and do whatever you like. You can take any and all updates without fear of losing anything.

Why can't we flash a kernel?

Does anyone know?
I hear it in all sorts of different threads, but I haven't seen an explanation why.

First, some phones don't have an unlockable boot loader. So those phones will never be able to flash a kernel until someone leaks the unlock keys.
Everyone else who has an unlockable bootloader (non dev) will have to permanently void their warranty to unlock their BL and flash unsigned firmware.
The dev edition can readily do whatever they want, but there isn't enough people who can benefit from development.

But what about with safestrap recovery....can't we flash a kernel with it on a locked phone?

No. Because it would be unsigned software, and the bootloader is checking for a certain signature. If it's not there, it won't boot.

Update framaroot

Seen this app that can root phone easily without downgrading and any hard stuff that most of us don't want to risk so can anyone update that app so that it can root our 4.4 kit Kat update

No. It doesn't work like that. A new exploit has to be found to root KitKat. It isn't just a matter of updating existing tools.

I hope one develops a method to do so for even bl phones skipping the downgrading and unlocking process

Want to update rom

I'm currently on 4.3 nb4. I got my note 3 already rooted. I want to move on to kk. My question is how do I know what root method was used. So I know how to continue.

To my knowledge only kingo and vroot worked on 4.3 and they were the same just different websites

Baseband

So I haven't been following XDA lately or system updates. My phone is currently rooted with xposed running. I am thinking about updating the software, but I need to know how I can upgrade to the fullest while keeping my root. Thanks
