So this is my second Mi Mix. I know my way around it a bit. Anyway I was trying to flash TWRP and it won't work. It appears the bootloader is locked. Apparently the original retailer who sold the phone flashed the global MIUI rom and then relocked the bootloader and reflashed the original recovery.
I have already requested to unlock through Xiaomi but I'm not sure if it will work being on this rom... once I get the text back from them that is.
I'm unable to flash the Chinese stock rom in MiFlash because the bootloader is locked. I've tried just about everything but it appears I'm stuck waiting on Xiaomi to send me the unlock text but my concern is that I won't be able to do it because I'm not on the stock rom.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You dont need to request for another unlock code. The unlock code is associated with your Mi Account, meaning you can unlock any Xiaomi device once you sign in with your Mi Account on the device. Once signed in, you just need to use the Unlocking app.
Considering this is your 2nd Mix, I'm assuming you had received an unlock code for the first one. If so, you're good to go. You just need to do as I mentioned above.
If you dont have an unlock code yet, once you've received it, the procedure is fairly simple. Just follow one of the guides here and you'll get to wherever you want,be it Official, EU or a custom ROM.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!
The first one I bought already had the bootloader u locked so I don't have a code. Once I receive a reply from Xiaomi with a code will I be able to unlock even though it's on the global ROM and not stock?

Yes. once you have the code, you can unlock regardless of whatever ROM is installed on the device. FYI, my phone came with a Vendor ROM but locked bootloader just like yours. I don'"t think the Vendor relocked it. I'm assuming that Vendors receive signed Custom ROMs from Xiaomi which is then flashed by Vendors using stock recovery. If they have a signed ROM file, the bootloader doesnt have to be unlocked. It just installs like an update.

Didn't know you had to unlock bootloader for Chinese ROM with miflash, you sure it's not the way you unpacked the file.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it requires bootloader unlock. The first Mix I had was the 128gb version and I sold it last week. Before I sold it the guy wanted me to flash the chinese rom back and I did it using mi flash and it worked just fine. Used the exact same file this time and it won't work, it fails right off the bat. Also in the guide that's posted here for flashing the Chinese rom it says you need the bootloader unlocked.
I guess it's one of those things that people assume the bootloader is already unlocked if you're flashing the Chinese rom since you'd have to have unlocked it already to get off of that rom in the first place.
I'll just sit back and wait for my unlock code I guess. Hopefully they don't take the full 10 days to get back to me.

Vendor ROMS aren't signed or sanctioned by Xiaomi.
Given Xiaomi doesn't even produce a general Global ROM for some models of it's handsets (such as the Mix) because they only sell them in China, it would make little sense for them to then sign Vendor ROMs for such handsets given they're all but exclusively used by international sellers.
Hey guys,
Can i flash normal twrp and Costum roms? Also when i have the Ultimate Version?
Sorry for my bad english, im german
You mean the 6/256 version . Look if you have unlocked bootloader or locked . If you have locked bootloader you have to apply for unlock permission on miui web. Once this is done you can flash TWRP and Custom Roms . Enjoy.

Hi @CayCay^^,
there is no different TWRP for the 4 GB RAM / 128 GB ROM edition compared to the 6 GB RAM / 256 GB ROM edition.
You can always use the same TWRP for both versions.
Yeah I did it too, you flash the twrp for the mix and then follow the flashing instructions from there. So far there does not seem to be a difference between the 4gb and 6gb models twrp/rom wise. At least I noted no differences when I unlocked, rooted and romed my 6gb version/

Anyone knows what the Unlock problem that seems to be affecting a lot of users (including me) is?
I've gotten the unlock sms, and I've verified my account on the phone under Dev options, but when running the Mi Unlock tool it says either "Current Account is not bound to this device" on the latest version of Mi Unlock (2.2.406.5) and on an older version (1.1.0317.1) it says "Current account is different from the account info on the device".
I've never had this problem before. Wondering if the device was unlocked then locked again as it came with EN.MIUI and that's causing problems?

That's annoying, most come unlocked obviously you checked for this, to re-lock is just worrying. Give malwarebytes a run.

Thanks. I've tried Fastboot to see if it's locked, and it is. So I guess it had to be unlocked at one point in time to install en.miui, or does Xiaomi now sell international versions with en.miui now?
Malwarebytes doesn't report anything fishy - thanks for that tip!
I might just wait two days for the en.miui Dev ROM and see if I can unlock the device then.
I've tried the en.miui.com forums but there are some many "thank u" etc posts that it's a mess to read through, keep up and identify problems

Always came with Chinese and English but that was it. Maybe they just wanted you to be able to use android pay and banking apps, unlocked bootloader and custom ROMs make that tricky. Where you got it from
Hello all,
Yesterday I received a k20 pro from china with an unlocked bootloader.
I wanted to get rid of the spy/bloatware so i went and tried to install twrp to install another ROM, but for some reason TWRP flipped when i installed it (i think i forgot to turn off encryption) and just decided to stop working altogether. Recovery did not work anymore and so i was stuck in fastboot (bootlooping). After some stressfull googling i found out, the only way to get the phone working again is by flashing the (only) fastboot ROM, which was the chinese variant.
I was so stressed out, i forgot to change the flash option in xiaomi flash tool to "clean all" instead of "clean all and lock"(which is the default, fu Xiaomi).
So now my phone has a chinese ROM and the bootloader is locked.
So my question is:
Once i get the bootloader unlocked again (which will take 1 week hopefully), will i be able to install the global ROM (once it is released) or a better, a non-spying ROM?
Also, i tried debloating the chinese rom, but everytime i apparently debloat too much and the phone just stops working and i need to do a reset.
Does anyone have a proper list of xiaomi applications that are safe to remove (trough adb)? the ones i found remove too much.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, once you unlock your bootloader again, you can flash indian global firmware, which has less bloats, google apps and services included, and poco launcher.
For debloating cn rom, there is a tool here, I'll find and link.
May use this for debloating- https://github.com/Saki-EU/XiaomiADBFastbootTools

Hi, this is the program that i've been using for removing the xiaomi apps, however when some of the listed apps are removed the phone won't be able to restart anymore and i have to do a reset.
For now, i manually removed all the removable spyware by hand and installed blokkada to deny communication to xiaomi servers. I don't dare to remove a lot of system apps trough adb anymore since i had to reset my phone 5 times already... i just want to use it now...
Just endure the pain until bootloader is unlocked again then move over to the Indian rom, its much more tolerable.

This is the safest option. Whilst waiting for bootloader unlocking I just uninstalled anything that could be and disabled anything else that could be disabled. There were still many things I wanted to remove that could not be uninstalled or disabled, but decided I could live with them for a week.
After your week is up, you've got many options. If you like MIUI but not the bloat and spyware, then there are MIUI custom ROMs that remove the junk, xiaomi.eu ROMs being one of the biggest. Otherwise there are AOSP based custom ROMs that are stable enough to use.

NO.
If you try and lock the bootloader with anything that is not the original region you will hard brick the phone.
If you have a Chinese phone, then you can only lock the bootloader when installing an official Chinese ROM.
I think only the account used to unlock the blootloader can relock and re-reunlock it.
If you lock the phone, you won't be able to unlock it again with another account.
It is just a safety mechanism from xiaomi.

You don't need an account to lock the bootloader.
Provided that there is not a Mi account linked to a phone, then anyone who has the phone in their possession can unlock it.
When people have bought a phone already unlock, then accidentally locked it, they have been able to unlock it themselves if the seller has already unlinked the phone from the sellers Mi account

So basically it is possible, if one gets a k20 pro flashed with global rom, that if the seller forgets to remove his account from the phone, you're stuck using ONLY other roms? In other words, in order to relock the bootloader and install official chinese rom, you need to contact the seller and ask him to go on his mi account to remove your phone?

Yes there has been a few cases on these forums where this had happened.
However, you can still use official MIUI ROMs, you can still flash the Chinese ROM and lock the bootloader. The problem then is that you cannot unlock the bootloader again if the phone it's still linked to another account.
If you buy a Chinese phone with a global ROM, why would you then want to flash a Chinese ROM and lock the bootloader? You would be better off just buying the phone still with the Chinese ROM and locked, if that's what you wanted.
People have had problems because they've been flashing an official ROM with the Mi Flash Tool and accidentally left the flash option to flash and lock. When flashing with the Mi Flash Tool you just need to remember to change the default flash option every time you use it.
If you never relock the bootloader, then you will never have this problem and can still use official MIUI.

On AliExpress on almost all listings on Huawei devices (P20 Pro for instance) there is the option to buy it with a flashed Global ROM. And they do this without unlocking the bootloader.
How do they do it? Is it that the bootloader on the Chinese version is unlocked?
For example...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-pro/how-to/guide-force-update-using-firmware-t3963074
This is just a stock rom, you can download an update.zip and install it via recovery no problem.
Don't make the mistake of thinking this is a custom rom like AOSP it isn't.
It's completely stock, all P20 Pro devices come with an open OS afaik, then when you turn it on with your SIM it binds to the carrier / location, least that's my understanding of it.
But 100% not a custom ROM.

What do you mean by an "open OS"?
My Huawei device has a locked bootloader, and I didn't find any way on the internet to unlock it yet. (There is a site that offers leaked unlock codes from Huawei itself for 50$ but I won't pay this much). Consequently, so far I've only been able to install official Huawei ROMs only.
*Huawei has stopped to officially offer unlock codes since a year as of now.

Anti-roll back isn't currently active on any version of Redmi Note 10 Pro, all versions so far have the roll back index value of 3 so it's ok. Meaning you can roll back to previous versions if you're unhappy with the update. Though, to downgrade you would have to unlock he bootloader and downgrade using MiFlash or by directly flashing the Recovery ROM.
imho he meant rollback without bootloader unlock.
Thanks guys. Elinx yer i did mean that exactly, i really dont want to mess around unlocking bootloaders etc, i just assumed as you can flash a stock rom to upgrade without unlocking it, youd be able to flash any stock rom without needing to unlock, strange having to unlock it just to downgrade, there must be a way to flash a downgrade from the phone itself without having to unlock BL.

No, that isn't that strange, because Xiaomi thoughts are that older versions mostly are less secure.
With bootloader unlock you take that responsibility.

Imho ARB is about Android versions and it could be that rollback of Miui versions is possible if the Android version stays the same.
Personally with the knowledge about AntiRollBack I never will take a risk without unlocked bootloader.
If something goes wrong you are done.

There are two ways I know how to downgrade but the first one is the one which I haven't tested personally (but people on TG tested and it seems to work for them, do more research about it)
1. The rename trick, you can fool the Updater app to upgrading by downloading two roms (one is the upgrade rom and one is the downgrade rom). Just after selecting the upgrade package on the Updater, switch both file name of the two roms so the upgrade rom gets the downgrade ROM name and vice versa. Munchy from YouTube did a great tutorial on this trick. Try watching it for the complete guide. This method doesn't require bootloader unlocking too (and no data wipe afaik)
2. This downgrade method is a lot more straight forward, we unlock the bootloader, and use MiFlash to downgrade the ROM and select the flash_all_and_lock option to relock the bootloader. This method does use data wipe. I've tested this personally downgrading from 13.0.9.0 to 12.5.6.0 but I didn't relock the bootloader on mine.

I can imaging that fooling is possible, but can't imaginge this is only done by renaming a file, without changing something inside the rom. So before you even try this I would check and doublecheck all info about that method.
edit:
I see that a sort of the same method is done here for upgrading to a beta build
Personally I find this very tricky with locked bootloader, because Xiaomi can change something without notifying and you have a bricked phone.
Thanks again chaps. Yer ive seen the rename thing, 6 different posters have done it with success, in all honesty i dont think id try it, i was only bothered mainly about ARB on RN10Pro. I will unlock and wait however long the time period is then just downgrade, ive tried looking for tutorial vids but all seem posted by an Indian chap so ive no idea what hes saying, ive downloaded Miflash but when i start it up it keeps saying i need to install drivers, which ive already done, ill keep looking tho, there must be a good tut somewhere with all the drivers and tools needed.
