Swype cant be turned off, I tried too, but couldn't find anything. You can disable suggestions by holding the Swype button in the bottom left corner of the keyboard and selecting options, in that menu there are the prediction options
in settings there is "next word prediction" and its off. But we still see words prediction above keyboard... Ill try some aosp keyboard, any advice?
I had the same problem. in the end i downloaded a AOSP like you mentioned and I no longer see predictive words!! yahooooooo
I and unsure why huawei made the phone like this. Other than that its an awesome phone
Why do you say you cant remove the Swype option? I chosc gboard and the swipe button/icon dissapeared. Anyway I now have this prediction issue. Really a pain in the neck. What to do? AOSP? What is it?

Those two softkeys on the sliding keyboard... they're always getting hit when I'm typing, often sending half-finished messages and attempting to call/delete contacts.
Is there ANY way to disable them?
I wouldnt go as far as to disable them, but I do find them quite frustrating at times, HTC should've seperated the softkeys from the rest of the keyboard.
I would also like to know if this is possible. They are annoying .
I would imagine that if you would disable them you would have to disable the softkeys period. But i would like that them to get out of my way too
tiny screwdriver + leverage?
lol, might need a knife to cut the keyboard rubber too
wonder if the could be remapped rather then disabled
you know duprade's herald/wing keyboard fix? Maybe you could use that software to remap the softkeys, assuming it allows you to do so.
I think the hardware keyboard soft keys and the external softkeys are the same input... so if you tried to change them, it would disable/change both sets.
Use AEButton Plus to disable the keyboard SoftKeys
AEButton Plus will do this. I have mine set so that a single press does nothing, but a double press does what it would normally do. Onscreen buttons still work as expected. Works great.

Hahahaha. Yeah, I freaking hate that.
Is there a way to deactivate poping up of the touch keyboard? Everytime when I am in an input field the touch keyboard pops up. But if I really want to enter something I want to use the QWERTY hardware keyboard. So is there a way to deactivate that the touch keyboard always pops up?
3 new threads out of 5 total posts... some would look down upon that. Since a simple search by me for your problem did not yield any direct answers, here's your freebie. Welcome to XDA!
When you go to a text box in landscape mode and the onscreen keyboard pops up, tap the space bar on the hardware keyboard. That will tell the phone not to pop up the onscreen keyboard again until you tap the icon for it.
No, I mean not when I have my hardware keyboard folded out. I mean when it is folded that the touchscreen keyboard doesnt show up.

OK, let's try this again... so is this your situation?
You are using the phone in portrait mode with the hardware keyboard closed. When you click into a text box, the onscreen keyboard pops us. But you do not want the keyboard to pop up. You want to be able to click into text fields with the phone closed, but not have the onscreen keyboard pop up.
Did I summarize that correctly? If so, I'm working on the answer, give me a little bit.
--Edit--
I just tried the following steps:
Slide the phone open
Open PIE and go to Google
Tap into the text box; the onscreen keyboard did not come up
Tap the icon for the onscreen keyboard; it came up
Tap away from the text box; keyboard went away
Tap into the text box; keyboard came back
Tap Space on hardware keyboard; onscreen went away
Tap away from the text box
Slide the phone closed
Tap into the text box; onscreen keyboard did not come back
Follow my steps just to see if that is your solution. If not, it could quite possibly be ROM dependent.
Your summary is correct.
Here is what happens at my Kaiser:
When I am on google the onscreen keyboard is there. Everything else works fine but I dont like that the onscreen keyboard comes everytime I am in a textbox.
I am using the ROM from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403214
Try the steps I listed above. Also, if you tap a second time in the text box, the keyboard will close, but pop back up if you go to another box.
The problem is that if I open PIE and got to google the onscreen keyboard will pop up without doing anything and I want to get rid of this "feature".
The Touch keyboard cab which I downloaded here has some kind of weird bug. When I go to contact and edit info, in the number bar, the keyboard automatically turn into symbols and 123. Then I can't change it back into ABC. I keep on pressing the ABC key but nothing happen. Even I go to Word or sms I can't go back into ABC.
Any help?
i have a problem with the keyboard as well but it has to do with uninstalling it..!
while it was installed i had the option on the bottom bar full qwerty phone keypad etc.. i uninstalled it..but the menu options are still there!! although when i select them it loads the default keyboard since there is no "touch it" installed any more..!!! any way to fix this please?
anyone????
The HTC_IME keyboard thing or whatever its called lol...can u make it so that it doesnt do auto predict when you use the g1's slide out keyboard? It's really annoying and slows up the phone. Ive looked in the setting and nothing works.. can someone help please?
Open the soft keyboard, look in the bottom left corner. There should be a cog-looking thing next to the comma key. Pressing this will take you into a settings screen. Tap "Text Input" and there you are.
Hope I helped.
So I've been using swype recently and some things really bug me and have no idea how to fix it. Every time I want to type something and the swype keyboard comes up, it always has the selector arrow present. So if i want to type anything that starts in the upper left right where W is, I have to wait like 3 seconds for the arrow to disappear otherwise, accidentally hit the arrow.
PS. can someone also tell me how to DELETE words. "Soooooo" is in the dictionary for some reason -_-
Not sure to what selection arrow you are referring, but if you go into Swype settings (long press the Swype key) there is an option to manage three user dictionary.

when you first hit a text box, the swype keyboard comes up. there is a selector slider arrow in the text field, light blue right where the "W" key is on the captivate portrait mode.
i know of the user dictionary, however, is there a way to delete the built swype words..

I dont think there is a way to delete from the prebuilt dictionary unless you modified the root file somehow.
Heres a little bit on swype though. I love it. I have used it for almost 2 years now as my only keyboard because Im sold on texting and typing with one hand. Heres the bad part. Swype tries to be an application that can go on almost any Android phone. This attempt to be universal really makes for an application that doesnt perform to its peak on any one phone. To elaborate, swype always has background processes running. Why? Why does a keyboard need that? Second, it does have bugs. More than once it just stopped letting me input text and I was forced to uninstall and reinstall the beta application.
So pick your poison here. You can deal with an app that isnt going to ever be what it could be, or pick a keyboard made for your phone or just one made better. (I stuck with swype.)
Pretty sure the stock keyboard runs in the background too. And when it locks up on you, just switch to the stock keyboard and it will have frozen too. Then switch back

Swype pet peeves
It turned out to a bloatware with Swype connect spying on you.
I'm using stock Samsung KB on ICS, it has my 2 languages. Not ideal for everyone. There is also Android KB which has all the langs.
