Help me bring my SM-G870A back to life. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

So I don't keep up with android news, and I Upgraded OTA to what I believe was 5.1.1 on my S5 Active. Then a few weeks later I accidentally deleted some pictures and saw the best way to recover them was to root the phone. So I thought no biggie I'm sure it's much easier nowadays to root and followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299
Odin gave me a pass result I was like cool that was easy, but when the phone rebooted it just got stuck at the Samsung Android screen.
I have probably searched every single forum on the internet with every possible keyword to fix my problem, and I just can't find a solution so I hope you guys can help.
The phone goes into download mode and recovery mode and my computer recognizes it., so that gives me a little bit of hope.
My brother has an S5 active as well if this would be of any help. I can't find the 5.1.1 G870A FW on sammobile so is there a way to extract that from another S5 Active on 5.1.1?
I hope someone can help, I did learn the lesson though never buy a phone with a locked bootloader since I'm prone to stupid mistakes like this.
Cheers

Do you know exactly what 5.1.1 version you were on? or what date you received the OTA? I can point you in the right direction for the OTA but I don't know if that will help. I have never repaired a soft brick but if I had the OTA I would load it to my SD card and try to load it in recovery mode. Maybe someone reading this can jump in and tell us if this would work.

This only works if you are already rooted. Can't go back if you are 5.0 or above.

[Q] Phone Stuck at Restore Screen/Odin Mode

I recently bought a new GS4 SCH-i545
Well i got it friday from Verizon, and had it rooted by Saturday. By Sunday I wanted my iphone back, so i wanted to reclaim warranty. Used Odin3 and the stock firmware for my device, and hit start and it failed. My phone is stuck at the Update with Kies, and I can get it into download mode. Thing is I've tried a a bunch of stock firmwares for my phone model and none of them work (Also I tried ODin 3 185 3.07 and 3.09). I'm at a stand still and any help will be greatly appreciated. Feel free to ask for anymore information that I may have left out.
Thanks

First I would say you are in the wrong forum, this is the S4 active. Then I would ask how you rooted? Custom Recovery?? And did you mean you CANT or can get into download mode?

Going back to stock help

I'm hoping someone / you guys can help me.
Ever since I did the 4.4.2 update, my phone has been brutally slow and killing the battery and overall just a POS. I looked for wakelocks, screen is extremely low etc. I'm just sick of it to be frank. So I'm hoping to wipe everything, format the sd card and completely fresh as if it were a brand new phone.
From spending the last 3 hours researching, I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. ( maybe I'm overlooking it with my lack of sleep since we have a 8 week old )
From my understanding, I can't downgrade to an older firmware cause of knox. ( I would love to do this, so then I can root it and put on knoxraid or some other rom so I don't have all this bloatware etc )
Now with that being said, since I can't downgrade, I also can't replace my phone since I can't find the 4.4.2 files to odin my phone. I can find the mj5 files, but not the NC2 ( I think those are it )
Can someone please help me here, my sanity is running thin ( again, lack of sleep )
Thank you in advance.

there are no oden files for 4.4.2 you have a couple of things you can try go to settings, general and backup and reset and do a factory reset or go to best buy or a att service center and have them reflash the 4.4.2 firmware

So to confirm, Best Buy or AT&T can flash it? I pretty much can just go in there and say " Hey can you reflash my phone?"

From what I have heard the employees in the samsung experience shop inside of bestbuy have a tool that can reflash the phone. Make sure to call ahead before you go into the store. Explain to them whats going on and ask them if they are able to reflash the stock version on the phone.
If your phone says that its rooted they are not allowed to do the flash.
If they do not have the software my recommendation would be to contact ATT. Since it is a software issue the phone will be covered without that warranty that you pay monthly for. So they will ship you out a refurbished (like new) phone and then you will send yours to them.
EDIT :
And also the ATT service centers do not have the tool to reflash your phone. Only Samsung has access to that. ATT service center will just give you a number to call to have them ship you out a phone.
Thank you Aaron, I appreciate it

I've been to Samsung smart station at Best Buy:
1. Being on MLG 442 it said that being up to date it couldn't flash
2. The rep "said" that since it was previously rooted it wouldn't allow the flash anyway
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
there is adb sideload of the ATT OTA update
device must have NB4 or NC2 otherwise update aborted due to expected fingerprint not seen by the OTA such as MLG or MJ5 MI9 MI1
if rooted or not will not matter it's the fingerprint = NB4 or NC2 to get stock 442 OTA

I was having problems also... Just do a factory reset and then do a wipe in recovery mode and you'll be good to go. I got a brand new phone from AT&T service center, came on MJ5 - I installed some apps and setup the phone before I could get on wifi, updated to kitkat when I got home and I had issues all over again. A simple reset works.

[Q] Can you help me get my Recovery Menu back and possibly Stock FW

Okay so to start I followed this Tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120 all the way through and my phone was rooted and I was happy. One day I tried to install TWRP since this is what I used on my Galaxy s3 before this phone. It got stuck on on a boot loop. I eventually tried flashing every stock ROM which did not fix the problem because ODIN would fail when trying to flash. Eventually I tried flashing the "G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel" supplied in the tutorial. My phone magically booted up and all my APPS and stuff was the same as I left it and it was still rooted. I decided not to mess with it anymore. This happened about a month ago.
Today, my phone had a notification saying that there was an update and I tapped remind me later. Eventually, I installed Titanium Back up to force closed the AT&T Software Update app the phone came with. Then. it automatically updated and eventually got stuck into the boot loop again. No problem, I fixed this before. What I noticed from the first time was that I had a screen that said "Secure Fail: Recovery. System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help" Once I flashed the stock kernel from the tutorial I never checked to see if the recover menu was there.
So right now I have my phone working and its rooted. I installed the "Phone Info" app and it says Bootloader Version:G900AUCU2ANG3. Eventually, my phone will try to update itself again and it will fail causing it to boot loop. I am not sure on what to do. Is there a way for me to have my recovery menu back? I just want to have the option in the future to revert everything back to normal in case I sell it or feel like having the newest OS. Also it would be cool to have a recovery menu on my phone again.
I know this was long but I needed to solve this problem before it gets out of hand in the future. Also I am pretty sure others have followed the tutorial and might have had the idea to update the OS or something else and had a problem similar to mine.
Thank You Very Much.

So you're still rooted?
And if so using titanium backup just freeze the ATT update app I forget what it's called exactly but you'll know it when you see it and that'll stop your device from trying to automatically trying to update

Someone Please help me, get my moms phone running

Ok, so my mom bought an unlocked AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 and she had it connected to our family plan with T-mobile. Everything was working find until last night I tried to downgrade her phone to 4.4.2 original version G900AUCU1ANCE. I used odin3 and install it everything passed. And when the phone tried to restart it wont pass the samsung logo,. Plase someone tell me how to fix this. I can assure you that I flashed the G900AUCU1ANCE correctly and everything passed. I was happy when I saw the phone trying to boot up and start but it wont pass the samsung logo. I really need to fix this before my mom starts yelling at me for messing up her phone. tomorrow.
the version she had on before I flashed it back was version 4.4.4. Once again, this is an AT&T phone but is connected to T-mobile network plan.

Use the downgrade firmware in step 4 of the notes section of the OP in this thread. Flash with odin 3.09 in the AP slot. I know you said you already have the NCE downgrade file but i use this one the time and it always works for me.

Yes you can. I'd advise to stick with ATT roms. And make certain to read the OP in any thread about roms before flashing. Keep that NCE downgrade file as a saver. I personally an running the TMS5 rom and love it. But you'll need to upgrade to the rooted 5.0 firmware before flashing it.

How long does it take to get 5.1.1 OTA?

AT&T released 5.1.1 a couple of weeks ago, and I still haven't gotten a notification on my phone that the OTA update is ready to be installed. I check manually every day, too, but every time it says that the "update was interrupted" and I have to wait 24 hours. Is that because the server is busy and I'll just have to wait patiently as the update is being rolled out to AT&T phones over the air? (Yes, I know I can simply move the date forward one day and try again manually, but I don't want to inadvertently mess up the automatic OTA checks.)
I would really like to install 5.1.1 on my S6. Is there a way to speed things up? Is there an official AT&T image I can install through Kies or some other way?
Thanks!
--Ron
Make sure you have at least 4GB of storage free when you try the update. I have heard of this sort of thing happening if you don't have enough free space.
I had read that, too, but I have a 64 GB S6, with some 30 GB free, so that's not an issue.
Same here
i'm not sure why i'm not getting the update...i have an unlocked galaxy S6 at&t version.
i'm living outside the US so i'm using another sim card. Is that the problem?
I also have an unlocked AT&T S6, but I live in the U.S., so that shouldn't be an issue either.
--Ron
I know the feeling. I have been checking daily too and finally got it late last night.
Does root effect updating from SmartSwitch?
Still nothing (10/13). Is anyone else seeing the same thing? Should it really take weeks and weeks before we get this update after it's been officially released?

Don't know what to tell you other than the basics.. The correct file is available in the android developnent portion of this forum.. Download make sure you put all four files in proper slots in odin and hit start.. Should wipe everything and complete unless you using the wrong model of s6 or the wrong files in the slots.. Honestly nothing is worth losing root though in my opinion.. I only want 5.1.1 so I can use. Xposed but without the ability to root the update is meaningless to me and really more of a regression to me.. But no it won't trip knox

I downloaded the correct file, unzipped and I did these 4 files, which put in its proper place and time to flash the firmware gives me error.
I'm in the OF4 version and have not received the update by air today. I restored the phone several times to see if I update and nothing appears. I searched around in various forums and can not find the solution
I bought the galaxy used and I'm not sure if the USB cable is original. Anyway, I've tried other cables and various USB ports. The last thing I did was to restore the PC and start from scratch ... it still did not work for me
I am very good at following tutorials. I have not damaged a phone or electronic equipment and has not gone bad in the process, I always get everything right, but it is the first time you see me in this situation where I can not find the solution
I think it's the cable. Anyway, where I live not sell the USB cable separately. Buy by amazon and I'm waiting for it to arrive, but if not the USB cable and anyone knows anything please help me
Make sure you. Put phone in download mode. I overlooked that when I was a noob
Finally bit the bullet and just flashed the 5.1.1 update using Odin. Very smooth process. My phone is running 5.1.1 now. And with Google automatic backup, it didn't even take that long to set up my phone again.
