Just wanted to say I am so happy with this phone. I did have to make some sacrifices leaving the s7 but based on my needs it was worth it.
Cons vs s7 duos:
The 1080 screen isn't as sharp, but for everyday use its actually pretty nice even in outdoor use.
The camera is a couple notches lower than s7 but still very good. Samsung cameras focus faster and look a lot crisper. I am sure people will debate that but Samsung has camera down.
No Samsung pay but still have Android pay thanks to NFC this year!!
No expandable memory card but I'm on with 64gb for the most part.
PROS:
Really good finger print reader. It is faster than s7 for sure. Reminds me of the Nexus 6P fast.
Most important for me is software is near stock Google experience with multi user. I use my business and my personal on separate accounts it's super convenient.
Att on one sim and T-Mobile on other. It's not like the s7 duos where we had issues with data connectivity from one sim to other. No issues with this so far!!
Dash or quick charge is real nice!!
Very good overall phone for the price by far!!!!
I think this will be good backup until the Lenovo Motoforce Z ultra with Nexus software and 2k screen comes out later this fall.

i got a s7 duos also, considering the jump, only thing holding me back is the lack of 4g lte support for australian networks (where i live)
still love my new s7 duos
I had the S7 edge T-Mobile version and sold it once I received my OnePlus. Faster, snappier and battery has lasted longer for me. Love the dash charger as well. Overall I'm very pleased with it.

I would have kept it but I was dealing with data issues when signal was low and it would switch Sims but data would freeze. Got way too annoying and updates came and gone but no fix. This has been a champ for me.

The battery on s7 lasted longer for me. I find I need to do a quick dash charge once a day to get me all the way through.

strange as the s7 has more 4g & 3g frequencies then the oneplus3....
Same boat.
Even with the custom ROMS, Touchwiz is just too 'heavy' for me.
I was also tired of the palm thumb rejection issues on the sides of my S7 edge duos screen.
That phone is now back in it's box.
I've been happily rocking the Oneplus 3 from day one.
I heard the duos 7 was better but my T-Mobile variant of the s7 edge was significantly worse on battery. Between that, bloatware, and performance, this OnePlus 3 seems to be blowing it out of the water. I'm not having much stutter and wifi and LTE is really strong for me!

Glad to see this post as I ordered my OP3 on Friday and I too have a T-Mobile variant of the S7e. I'm hoping I'll love this phone enough to keep mine in the box as well at least till I turn it in after my lease.

If you're going to get one, depending on your carrier your better off getting the Europe or China model, for Optus the China Model has the best network support, and Telstra/Vodafone works best on the Europe model, however Telstra still has decent support with the China model. The China model can be bought through Oppomart I believe and I don't know about the European model. The North America model has the worst support for Australia on any carrier.

Back in April when the Samsung Galaxy S5 was first released, I purchased it via AT&T un-subsidized (no contract $649). I liked it a lot, however, I had a problem with the headphone jack. Basically, it was more loose than it should be. I returned the device and paid the ridiculous $35 restocking fee. I then tried the T-Mobile S5 on AT&T, but didn't have the best luck with reception (maybe I'm just super picky). So now, towards the end of June I am once again am tempted by the S5. I had used Nova Launcher so the device was very speedy.
Any suggestions on what to do?
P.S. I have tried the M8, and while I love how well it performs, I found the build to be quite slippery. I would also be getting the S5 full price.

My headphone jack is decent enough, no complaints. However, I'll never miss an opportunity to plug the Nexus 5. Much cheaper, and word on the street is it's about to be released in yellow!

I highly recommend it. I have mine rooted and I have pretty much every feature possible, no bugs or anything (except for Private Mode not working). Its very fast, never slows down on me, and you really can't beat the battery life (6-7 hours screen on time). Samsung really did a good job with this phone, and I feel that it's their first phone since the S2 that really got everything right. I will probably keep mine for a very long time.

I'd recommend the tmobile one again. If you want to do any true customizing (root unlocking bootloader which its already unlocked) you can freely. Also tmobile variant is fully compatible with AT&T. My two cents.

While I understand that, I am really not into rooting/flashing roms anymore. I also noticed that LTE signal strength was not great when using AT&T service on T-Mobile's S5.

I have a Galaxy S5 and a Note 3. Both are set up the same (Launcher, apps , root, etc). I have notice that the Note 3 is faster (loading apps, going to settings menu) than the S5. In Antutu the S5 has hire score but in 3DMark the Note 3 has higher score. Do you think this is normal or is there something wrong with my S5.?

I ask cause both are newer phones besides the obvious difference in O.S Does anyone actually recommend keeping the s6 over getting a m9?
Both have there issues
The s6 wasnt what it was cracked up to be either alot of weird issues .
Who would stay M9 who would go s6 and why?

I did the exact same thing. I would say go for it. I like the S6 but there was just something missing. That and I didn't trust samsung to release updates quick enough to fix the plethora of issues it has right now.
The M9's camera isn't anywhere near as good as the S6, but it's decent. Battery (in my usage) is significantly better.

I went through 3 defective S6s before I got my M9. I miss the better camera and the wireless charging, but for everything else I prefer the M9.
I got a defective s6 as well, but I was within my 14 day return period, so I decided to switch to the m9 rather than risk another issue on another s6 and lose my return window. I thought I'd miss the beautiful Samsung screen more, but htc software is still light-years ahead of Samsung.
Add me to the list of S6 (edge) defectors. Gave up my nexus 6 for the galaxy and I cannot be more disappointed. Sure the camera is nice and it does some cool things, but it cant even run pandora properly over a period of time. Will be going to get an M9 tomorrow.

Only things I miss is the finger print unlock and camera. I can now multitask haha
Wtf Samsung? They shoehorn a 3500 mAh battery in the S6 Active, but the regular S6/S6e get 2550/2600 mAh? Do any other S6/S6e owners feel gypped?
Isn't the S6 active going to be considerably thicker and without fingerprint sensor? I feel perfectly happy with my phone. The s6 active has its place, but that place is not in my pocket.
No, I do not feel jipped. Next question
Someone call the waah-mbulence for this guy.
jajajja but the question is how will be this phone with that capacity!!?? ?? with the 2500 battery im getting a lot imagine 3500

You will have the following:
No fingerprint sensor
A ugly phone
I think some tmobile bands will be missing
LOCKED BOOTLOADER!
I would've taken a thicker phone for the bigger battery, any day.
The only band missing is LTE band 12 which is not a huge concern currently.
For me don't care about finger print sensor. More important is being IP68 for water and dust is note important. I am not one to baby my phones so need something durable.
Sent from my LG-D851 using Tapatalk
If all you guys care about is the processor, water/dust resistance, screen and battery then the active is a winner. Personally I pocket my phones so the thinner the better. I also I hate passwords and pins so the fingerprint sensor is a major plus. And it is just so damn ugly
Honestly after reading my reply the active is the superior phone but I don't think I could use it as my daily driver, that fingerprint sensor is just too valuable to me.
New Nexus phones looking pretty good and packed with a lot of goodies for the price. If anyone grabs when they release. Please post up.

I already pre-ordered mine. Main reason is I don't think I can stand the S6 lag anymore. Latest OTA "fixed" it but not completely. Samsung, you were so close to making the perfect phone. So close....
I'm seriously considering getting one too, I'm tired of the ****ty battery life, will try getting an exchange from T-mobile and if the new S6 (probably refurb) still has battery issues I'll get a 5X. My main concern is that I have a 64gb S6.
Battery life will be better but not great and that's coming from the lead designer of the new nexus phones. I still enjoy my s6 even though it's stock. Maybe next year I'll switch to a nexus phone

The Snapdragon 810 in the Nexus 6p SOC is not a good alternative. Slower, hotter and I guess therefor eating up more battery.
Camera wise, LG G4 and S6 are still king imo. (here are some shots - best case scenario-: http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/29/9417599/nexus-5x-6p-camera-photos-images)
While I would love to buy another nexus, I have to pass this one and wait for next year, as it is way too expensive imo.
Be warned! No band 12 support (at least initially) with the new nexus phones. T-mobile won't let unlocked phones use band 12 unless they become VoLTE certified.

A couple things I'm hopeful for. 1, the 810 is ver 2.1 so it should fix those issues. 2, the camera has been rated and did extremely well. http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-6p-second-best-mobile-camera-645771/
Back to the Snapdragon 810 vs our phones. I'm so disappointed with what Samsung has done to this fantastic hardware with their crappy software. My phone lags, stutters. My old HTC M8 is lightning fast compared. So specs are great and all...(dont misinterpret my frustration, its solely towards Samsung)
Just wish we could get a vanilla based rom for the s6. :/ lol

I've been trying to figure this out... I chatted with T-Mobile but still don't really have a clear answer. I currently run on Band 4 on my Nexus 6 (which I love BTW) and my S6. Where I'm at, Columbus, Ohio, there is not support for Band 12. If/when Band 12 is activated here, will I then lose the ability to access LTE via Band 4? Or would Band 12 just simply be added in addition to Band 4?
This is the only reason I am debating on canceling my pre-order for the Nexus 6P... For those wanting a direct comparison of an N6 vs S6... I'll keep it short and sweet, the N6 blows away the S6 in every aspect except camera and fingerprint reader... The fact that the 6P has a significantly improved camera, and a fingerprint reader, it was a no brainer for me. The N6 has SOOO much support on XDA, endless options, constantly getting updates, doesn't have the super annoying poor ram management of the Galaxy lineup, I could go on and on. I'm still going to hold onto my S6 and sell my N6 and OPO for the 6P. I think once Chase is added to Samsung Pay that may drive me back to the S6... but as I flip back and forth between my N6 and S6, I find myself constantly going back to the N6 for longer periods of time.
I'd have a 6 already if not for the size. I can't wait to actually sacrifice this 6S to a hammer and get something else. The holy grail would be the Sony Z5, but it's unlikely to make it here. I'm very disappointed the 6P/5X don't have wireless charging though. Push comes to shove though, the 5X might be the way to go.

It would be added in addition to band 4. The only issue I have is in my house band 12 is always a stronger signal but it doesn't have the fastest bandwith. So I might get a faster download speed with band 4 even though it has a week er signal. I can manually change to band 4 with my s6 by using the code *#2263#

It's odd because I get usually full LTE signal inside my home, but my speeds are usually unbearable. I've chatted with t force on this too.. They've done some things that occasionally make it better, like 5mbps, but its usually .5 mbps or less.

Have you tried using the Play Store to browse anything whatsoever? Holy s**t is it laggy and jittery. I'm on the latest version, and it's still a jittery mess. Also selecting a text from the notification shade takes 5-10 seconds to open Hangouts. Those are the two big ones for me. That and the constantly restarting apps even when they've been hanging out in RAM draining battery. WTF? One example: Chrome can hangout running in the background draining my battery like a champ, but if I switch back to it, it reloads...every...single...tab. Grrrr!
I am switching from Verizon to AT&T so I need to get a new phone. Since AT&T doesn't offer Motorola smartphones, I have narrowed my choices down to the S7 and S5 (or maybe the S5 active). I have looked at the specs for both and they seem pretty close. I am not a heavy phone user, mostly just Facebook, email, Pandora, and a few games here and there. Also need a decent camera. Trying to decide if the S7 is worth the extra money over the S5. What is everyone's thoughts? Thank you.
P.S. I am not looking at the S6 due to lack of a SD card slot.
Well the S5 is 2 years old, going on 3. When I updated my wife's phone, they didn't offer the S5. I love my S5 Active, however, there will be more support for the S7, while the S5 is nearing its end of life. Also, I heard a S7 Active was right around the corner.

My first smartphone was Samsung Galaxy S (captivate), then got S3, and now I am on S5. This probably will be my last Samsung phone combined with AT&T service.
If you have an individual plan, instead of moving to AT&T with S5 or S7, I would recommend just going to Project Fi with Nexus. When I did the math, I realized that I would actually end up saving even though my current monthly AT&T plan includes a 22% corporate discount. At the end of the day at a lower price point you will get refund on unused data, free tethering, more frequent software updates, free international service (with limits), and overall the service tends to use much less data since it better auto connects to free wifi hotspots that Google knows about. You can go with the Nexus 6P or go with the $200 Nexus 5 and do an upgrade when Nexus 7 or whatever comes out since you can pay off the phone sooner with the savings benefits.

the s5 active has a 16mp camera, sdcard and can be had new for 185 from amazon. I love mine and will keep it until at least s9 are out and I can get an s7 edge for cheap

I too love my active, however, no root means lack of roms. So marshmallow will most likely be the last update we get, unless att decides to unlock our bootloader. A better option would be to get an international s5 or s7 to unlock. I do believe they even have the active as an international model.

When I did the math, I realized that I would actually end up saving even though my current monthly AT&T plan includes a 22% corporate discount.

That is the biggest reason I am switching. It costs me over $100 on Verizon per month. That is even with line splitting with one other person. AT&T will cost me roughly $30 per month due to line splitting with two other people.

Are there any major differences in the S5 vs. S5 active?

I have never rooted a phone. Not even sure what that means. I am on my second smart phone now. I started with Android 2.2 and currently using 5.1

The s5 and s5 active have identical specs. The only difference is the active is a little more rugged. As for rooting, it's the same thing as jailbreaking an iPhone. It gives you administrative access to all parts of your phone, not just limited access. It's mainly for power users.

If you're into Health the active has a heartbeat monitor. And it's a little more rugged. And it has a dedicated camera key

I'm a huge Samsung fan. All of my consumer products have become Samsung as all of my hosting / webTech is HP.
As I do wish they would quit dropping the ball and put out that 1 "here's for you world" dev phone with it all, i dont honeatly foresee it. (S5 lacks sufficient ram, S6 not even gonna start, S7 locked bootloader, seemingly salvation S7 international dropped NFC).
Now onto the discussion, of all of the options available, i see no question. Forward moving with forward support points to the S7 Edge. Personally, im grabbing the international exynos version as my NFC only gets used to tinker with tags here and there. I have to play with and mod everything. Example: today i bought a 5 Bay Sata NAS enclosure. First things first, all screws out. Nice heatsink, hmm, no chipset fan.....this simply will not do. 45 minutes later and she's purring cool awaiting my infinite search requests for classic endless terms like root, rom, hashcode and it's favorite ".zip".
I'm curious if my S7 will overtake my collection of warranty voided and in some cases paperweightes S5's. All in all, if you're a remotely busy person on your phone, the S7 ram is more than worth it. But......if you watch a lot of TV, go S5 - Samsung felt the IR blaster was too passe for a flagship device.

Thank you for all the input. I am going to try to go and check out phones after work today. Now I know what to look at.

Well, yes, that's a trade-off. I would rather have root over NFC.

I agree. I dont need the wallet as in my small town in rural Tennessee, there are only 3 retailers that take it. everything else is swipe and go. I am about due for an upgrade. 2 years on my s5 and it is well.. old. been a great device. I personally will be very hesitant to grab the S7. Since work pays for it, I may look at a non samsung device. maybe even HTC or a Nexus. Root to me is essential because of the ability to truly customize and debloat.

In rural Oklahoma it's the same. In the city I work 30 minutes away takes more NFC. Even then I still find myself using my card. Man you're lucky with work paying for the phone. My job gets me 22% of my AT&T bill.

I think on S7, the Samsung Pay feature is different than the NFC wallet and works with any point of sale credit card reader even in small towns. From my understanding S7 has some specialty hardware that mimics electromagnetic signature of credit card's magnetic strip when held next to ordinary traditional credit card swipe readers. http://www.samsung.com/us/samsung-pay The specialty hardware was as result of acqusition of LoopPay by Samsung. http://blogs.wsj.com/personal-techn...samsungs-looppay-mobile-payment-system-works/
