Can someone please create a cab file for the HTC Video SHare (Version 1, Build 31407). This is in the newest Att release from 6/15/08, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400276
I have no idea how to do this, and I an frankly surprised that no other Att user is interested.
I appreciate any help...oh, and yes, I searched for it!
Mods-Please delete, this thread moves the discussion backwards if anywhere, I will create a new thread...Thanks, and Sorry.
Calling all Chefs, esp. Att users...help please?

I realise this is probably not the best way to appraoch this but i have posted questions in the Att thread, and PMed ATW. Since i haven't recieved any responses, I thought I would post here because this is usually the only thread i check regularly.
Anybody?
Is there a older version avaliable?
Moving to software forum.
I suggest changing the name. You are much more likely to recieve help using a title more suited to your goal, i.e. "Looking for Video Share cab".
how to make a cab file, first search first result.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-234387.html
Thanks for the Advice GEleon....
After i posted it I realized it looks a little shwag, If i make a new topic can you move this there? It won't let edit the Title...
And, by the way...other guy...I meant i searched for the cab, not for how to create a cab...I have downloaded Alex's Rom Kitchen, with all the intentions of "cooking" my first rom, but....uh....yeah...I am retarded. I majored in Philosophy and then went to law school, needless to say any computer knowledge i have is completley self taught....ok enough of my bull$hit excuses for being lazy...I just wanted to clarify that I do my due diligence when it comes to searching for material i am intersted in...I just can't, or won't take the time to learn how to download a rom, extract the data, and create a cab file for a program i thought for sure other users would have an interst in....ok, enough of that...
p.s.
in a wierd way, i like how it is cut throat in here, and how after 5-6 posts on a subject, i have gotten 1 move, 3 complaints, and 1 I would like it too...It instills an efficency standard where "If you have something to say...you better be sure!"
I guess so...

Apparently, the Rom that contained the radio from hell had the first version, and it has since been updated, according to the release notes from the newest Att Rom version...This brings me back to my initial skepticism, I thought for sure there would have been atleast a mention of it, if not a cab file floating around..???

As far as I know AT$T Video Share is not supported by the Kaiser (or visa versa ).
Also the thread you noted does not contain an official AT$T release. It is a leaked test rom. Which is why AT$T was no help, and why more AT$T stock rom users are not more interested.
Looking for Video Share Calling Cab
This is the Rom that contains the application, I know next to nothing about interdepedancies, so sorry if this request seems retarded or whatever...I am hoping there is atleast 1 other Att user interested...I know the service is a Rip off, but I have allways wanted to try it...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400276
You are correct, but they are evidently implimenting it
I worked for Att during my undergrad, about 2 years ago; my brother is a manager for a couple stores owned by an Authorized Agent, so i have some close relationships...regardless, i have the video share calling on my ohone now because I put that Rom on it; however, i would love to take it off so if i have a cab file then i would feel more secure in it....
So, if there are any users who currently running this rom, and live in the Chicago Area, I can add the video share calling (either pay per use, or whatever) to your account so we can test this

How many threads are required before 1 user posts anything useful? What is a less efficient use of this sites resources, asking a question in multiple places, or 9 smug filled "hardcore" senior members setting a n00b straight by commenting with attitude! Bring the flames, I posted the same question all over the place and still haven't gotten 1 credible response, I am going crazy, maybe next I will drive without a seatbelt, or worse ask a question to an online communitiy that not a single person is required to view, only to be subjected to weak criticism..."dwah...how many times are you gonna post this (imagining baby Huey)....dwah"....yeah...get'em.....i mean come on, who is wasting their time to be so damn lame...the dreaded "senior" member....
Can we atleast look into the cab file, i would rather someone post the file with a password, share it with everyone except me, and atleast move this waste of my life forward....Kewllll

Oh, How wise. Let's criticize someone who was going to help you. But you know what. NO. I don't want to now. I'm going to stop digging through the Packages I have and Not Make you a CAB. There, Happy?
You need only post it once. THEN, Wait. Cluttering up the forum is a no-no. It makes it harder to search and find stuff. I could tell you wanted the CAB so I was using my resources and connections to help. Because that's what I do.
If you are going to act all holy, now I don't want to. And its not because you made fun of me. I don't care. Its your "I don't like the customs of the forum so I'm not going to follow" them attitude. When you come to a forum treat it like a good friends house. Repect people.
Remember we are all volunteers here. We don't owe you anything. And Being rude is not going to convinece anyone to help you. Read these while your at it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=681487&postcount=1
Not sure if that's what you want. I found the stock HTC6.1 disable videoshare by default and I can enable it by changing the registry as follow:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\Video]
"EnableQuickSendVideoShare"=dword:1
We'll 2 things Confirmed...
1. I used the Video Share Calling today and successfully placed and recieved video share calls. As expected, the payoff was hardly worth all of the commotion; even considering I had been expecting some form of Video Calling since the TyTn was released with a front facing camera, only to be dissapointed when the US version launched without it. Then, after Cingular (Att) launched the Video Share Calling Service, I was certain they would bring the Kaiser across the pond with the front facing camera...after all that build up it was pretty weak, but I still would rather have the option than not. So, it is confrimed that it works, but not very consistantly. However, it is not a "ship" rom..so maybe they can work out the final bugs
2. The other confirmed phenomenon seems to be the i have offended all of the people who's work i have appreciated over the last year. It really wasn't my intention, but I do think too many people are quick to complain about the length, size, location, and ripeness of nearly any question (can you hear me Pureskillz); but such is the nature of the premier source of all things XDA. So, I apologize to the other Att users that this may have benfitted, but after so many "flame" style posts, I start to find the ridiculous "My keyboard is mapped incorrectly" bug reports to be quite funny...To everyone else, sorry if I offended any of you, but maybe we all can take it easy...
Yup I'm an asshole what can you do?
Is that really what you took form that?
Jimmy,
Seriously, i have no beef with you...My comments are aimed braodly at many individuals that have an extremely narrow view of what a "proper" post is, or should be; thus, they feel inclined, no, obligated to bash any slight deviation. Unfortunatly, you happen to be the one that said how many threads are you going to create. I know you probably were unaware that i created 3 threads, in 3 different places and i left instructions for a mod to move to a proper thread...Subsequently, Gleason moved one other thread to this particular forum, and then recomended I modified the Title. So, I attempted to do just that, then realised that i was unable to modify the title so I asked him to delete the thread, and I would create a new one with the proper title he suggested...Long story short, there is defintly a sort of harshness that detracts from the community spirit that this site is based on. Further, I find it ironic that the fundamental reason for having a policy of restricted postings is to maximize efficency; yet, there tends to be just as many if not more "negetive," or "harsh" posts as there are unqualified ones...
This may have to go in the Q&A section, but i assume it would be something for the devs to look into.
Is there any way to output the GPS data over the USB or bluetooth connections? The same way we can tether the modem of the phone, Can we tether the GPS device of the phone?
Interesting idea. I don't think I'd have much use for it now but I used to have a carPC and it would have been handy for that.
I hope someone can help you
There is an app out that can output GPS date over an ADB link. But its experienced developer use only. I have a carPC and this is exactly why i am looking at doing this. The AGPS module in the N1 would be great to tether to a carputer
i'm sure this is like the 3rd time i've seen the same question asked in the space of two days!
this is a great idea to tether to a laptop which has local maps.
I am going camping and cant use my goggle GPS on my phone so this would come in handy ...
maybe next year lol..
Wish Google would let you temporarily select a state or two for local download for trips, yea that would be great!

Thread moved to Q&A where it really belongs
This question applies to the Samsung Galaxy Note (not the Note II), the SGH-T879 distributed by Tmobile.
Pardon me if this is a ridiculous question or if it is posted in a wrong forum; I know so little about these things.
I got the Note (referenced above) several months ago. I have beaten my head against a wall trying to get it to record both sides of a conversation within the phone -- without having to use speakerphone -- with no success.
I've tried many call recording programs, even ones with great reviews, and I think my problem is that Android versions later than 2.3.5 have blocked direct access to the firmware or hardware (not sure exactly which applies here). I have no experience with programming or development and don't want to learn. So here's my question: What would it cost to get someone to write a custom ROM that will allow the call recording programs to work properly? Or is that even a practical consideration at all?
Please, no suggestions on trying call recording programs or the moral or legal implications. Let's just stick to the question about the custom ROM.
Pffft! Whatever wrong forum.

Some of the Custom ROM in Development section has Call Recording Option, Did you try any of those Rom.
For example "Saurom-Projekt The_Hybrid 'Inovation' edition| AROMA" has call Recording. I have not used this rom but i just looked under the change log and it says it has Call Recording.

I think its safe to say that 98% of all Dev's on xda dont do this for money so I think just flat out paying somebody to do this is out. second you make a point of saying you refuse to learn to do it yourself which a lot of people would agree goes against the very spirit and intention of this site. Ya gotta be willing to learn if thats what it takes to make things happen the way you want! I hope ya have luck finding your answer though!
Yea, I'm using Saurom-Projekt, and it records fine unless you are using a bluetooth headphone. That coupled with an app (I use Sanity) gives me automatic incoming and outgoing call recording.

I have no idea what some of those words mean. I have no idea how to choose a ROM that would both enable my phone to record calls and that would be compatible with my hardware, I understand there are several versions of the i717 and ROMs for one aren't necessarily compatible with others and I have no idea how to choose the correct one. Then there is the problem that the terms I've read in the ROMs' capabilities/descriptions frequently have no meaning to me. I'm lost in China and I don't speak Chinese.
I've tried this kind of thing before and what usually happens is that people try to help and I think they give up and go away in their own frustration trying to help someone who is clueless even about the words they use when trying to help me. It's very frustrating.

So, after having expressed my frustrations and made it clear I'm a non-developer asking questions that only a developer would understand the answers for, what is this "one thing" I have to do, v3rsatile23?

Alex, you have to learn. You have to do your own studying. No one here on XDA has the time to do all the work for you - you have to understand how to flash something, how to recover if you do and something goes awry, how to deal with testing - no one else here can do that for you.
XDA is a volunteer run Development forum - it isn't here to teach basic uses. Please keep reading and don't do anything until you're fully up to speed. Now, before the flames start, I'm closing this thread.
Have a question but don't wanna ask it publicly? You're in luck. I do answer technical questions via PM!
One phrase I see a lot of, in one way or another, is "I don't answer technical questions through PMs". That could be for a multitude of reasons, I suppose. A user may have trouble keeping track of who is who, have a full inbox, or prefer to help publicly for the thanks and such that come from it. Regardless of why, this can put a lot of us in uncomfortable situations at times, knowing precisely who we want to ask what but having no way to do so privately. It can be really discouraging to go from helping ~15 people in a row with their issues, some complex, to not knowing where to even start on an elementary issue on your own device. Today I am hoping to put an end to that, at least for users of the Nexus 6. This thread seeks to offer assistance in a new way - I DO offer technical support via PM. I also bet some other users do too, and they are more than welcome to join in helping so long as spreading correct and helpful information remains the central goal. I welcome any user to offer support to another, just please do indicate the issue is resolved as to avoid multiple PMs from multiple accounts. If a user (or multiple) is interested in really becoming a part of this,I am not at all opposed to that either. I have no interest in doing this alone or anything like that - the more of us here helping people, the more actualized my vision for this thread has become. I will never compromise quality of answers for quota - if I am not totally sure, I either will not offer you suggestion until I am, or I'll preface it with a very clear indication of the fact that I am uncertain.
PMs aren't to be used here to walk througgh configuring someone's device, decrypting their phone or recovering from a brick, where one person's oversight could really mess things up. Directing these users to where to get said information from the guides provided and answering any subsequent questions they may have after reading said guides - that's what I am about. However, I would like for users who feel genuinely stupid or simply shy asking a certain question to have a place to ask it without feeling judged. I'd like to point you to the right place to ask your question and not second guess if it's in the right forumor thread or tagging the right dev. If your question is of a simpler nature and I am able to just answer it for you and provide helpful links/references if possible, I will. If you have a log but don't know who to submit it to, I'd like to help you figure that out. From new members who are shy to RCs who are just stuck on stupid for the moment, this thread is open to you all.
We can do this anyway you wish. For starters, my inbox is open to anyone. Please do let me know you are coming from here, as I receive a good deal of technical questions via PM as is. Or, if you prefer, simply post in here asking for a PM. I will check this thread quite regularly. If users find use for this, provisions may be made for a more organized system in the future, To all those with questions, don't be shy, now is your chance. To those of you who wish to get involved, again, don't be shy. Feel free to jump right in and start helping or to contact me, whichever is preferable. I hope to start a good thing here for the community that I have never seen done before, as this is what this is all about - the XDA community. Thanks for reading - I hope to hear from you guys!
Very nice offer of you.
I'll explain my reason for not answering PMs..well, several actually.
1) I spend all my time responding to PMs. I don't get to enjoy the forum
2) The PM relies on me only for support, when there may be better people to help
3) Questions asked in open forum benefit other members too

Oh yes, I definitely appreciate that it's not something members do to be less than helpful or anything like that, especially due to #3. I would definitely rather answer a question in an open forum so others can see it than through PM. My whole reasoning for making this thread is that I think some questions will go unasked if users don't have a place they are comfortable asking them - I myself have had questions but just simply not known where to ask, and by not asking, I learned nothing. So for those cases, niche issues, etc., I am hoping that people who normally would just deal with their issue and silently be unhappy about it, or hop from ROM to ROM or kernel to kernel trying to fix something that's really a GPS issue or something, those people can hopefully find what they have been looking for - or at least a pointer in the right direction to get there. I definitely appreciate that the open forum is the best way to handle most issues most of the time - as I have yet to see this type of thread for our device, though, I'm hoping to serve the needs of the few as the masses are already being served elsewhere. I appreciate you shining some light from the perspective of someone who gets a lot of technical questions aimed at you and does not answer them via PM - definitely a good jumping off point for users to see what this thread is not for, i.e. issues that are likely gonna help other users too.
I'll answer a few hundred questions via pm, yearly. but I would rather answer them in the public forums, for everyone to see. first off, you end up helping out more people if its answered publicly. plus, if you do answer with something that's wrong, someone will come by to correct you. that way the person gets the right answer, and you will as well. I know I'm not 100% right all the time, I'm not perfect, I'm just a human being, but I still try

PLEASE HELP ME! my phone is "rooted" with 3 third-party apps my BF installed!
I noticed that my nexus 6 was acting funny, and since my boyfriend purchased this phone for me- he set the entire thing up. The day it arrived, he plugged my phone into his laptop and started typing away at what looked like a black screen and a boxy white font with a bunch of rom codes etc(at this point, i was totally clueless and oblivious to what he was doing)...
Then, he would sporadically bring up specific texts that i had sent, and at times would randomly pinpoint specific addresses and times and asked me about them(mind you, they were my friends homes) which left me to wonder "how the hell did he even know about that text or specific location unless my phone is hacked??"
so, i took my phone to a specialist who confirmed that my phone was rooted with a custom ROM along with 3 third-party apps "kernel adiutor", "pure nexus", and "xda labs".
Once i called tech support for my phone, they said they couldn't help me because they're third party apps that are not legal to use in the first place.
long story short, his mom confirmed recently that he in fact has my phone hacked. can somebody please give me insight on the apps he installed and the purpose they serve?? what kind of access/capabilities does he have now that my phone is rooted even if i restore my phone???
Kernel Auditor Xda labs and pure nexus are not phone hacking apps Xda lab is app by xda community and Kernel Auditor is for tweaking the kernel and i think Pure Nexus is a Custom Rom for the Nexus
If you want to get rid of this you can ask service centre to flash Stock Rom of Nexus phone

You have a very *very* serious problem.
As khanboyz007 says, the apps you mention are entirely pukka, totally normal, nothing suspicious.
But...
If you can't trust your boyfriend so much that you have to post for help from anonymous strangers, then your problem is far deeper than your Nexus 6. From the technical side of your description, he's done nothing at all wrong, but from reading between the lines you don't trust him, and *that's* a dealbreaker.
Why are you asking us instead of him? Give him a chance to explain. Maybe there's nothing more sinister than you (clearly without any technical knowledge... sorry...) don't have your phone password-protected and he's just looked at your texts - in itself a breach of trust, but still not justifying posting in a public forum to strangers.

I wouldnt say that at all. If he can tell where she has been and what text she is sending then he installed one of the many monitor apps onto her phone which is illegal.
My advise would be to completely wipe your device. Flash a stock rom and dont let him touch your device.
As for your personal life no one can or has any right to say anything about that. Do what you think is best.
If he knows the locations you've been at its possible he has your google+ share location set where it's shared with him. Or possibly he had set up an email for you on it and is signing into it to track your location. As far as the apps you mentioned they are %100 percent legal, most carrier don't know anything about rooting or custom Roms and will not give you adequate advice. But as they said, you can just flash the stock image, make your own Gmail to sign in or make sure to change your Gmail password. After you do make sure that that you put a password on your device that he doesn't know.
"then he installed one of the many monitor apps onto her phone"
Isn't that what I said...? No trust. This isn't in any way a technical question - it's about their relationship.
And since I've seen your many posts here over the years I know you've got a fair amount of life experience, in which case I can assume that you know of Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is likely to be the correct one, and the simplest explanation here is not that he's installed a monitoring app but is simply looking at the phone. I stand by my comments.
"no one can or has any right to say anything about that"
Yes, I agree, it would be none of my business - *if* she hadn't asked for my advice (as well as yours).
If she has so little trust in her partner, and has asked for advice (technical or otherwise), then the answer has to be "Look very carefully at your relationship".
(P.S. To avoid the inevitable "sexist" comments, yes, I've assumed it's a female poster, but I'm aware that there are alternatives).
To be honest I think it might be a moot point as he is most likely part of this forum and has seen this post.
Then he's got the message...
Or this is just a prank. Like I'm getting private messages from people who haven't even posted yet to fix their phones.

Yes, that same thought had occurred to me. I give the benefit of the doubt unless there's a clear sign that it's a joke, and this one does come close to the edge...
A lot of effort for a not-funny joke though. It would be good if the OP provides some feedback - I do get very fed up with people asking for advice, which is given maybe by half a dozen people who have taken the time and trouble to provide it, only for the OP to vanish into the ether without so much as a "thank you" button press.
Step one, flash the phone back to stock using the links provided eariler posts.
Step two, dump the loser - he is too controlling, and this will never change...
Now that the personal advice has been given, let's bring this thread back to troubleshooting device issues, not relationship issues . Thanks for your cooperation.

Your friend has set up your phone the same way as he should do for himself.
There nothing wrong with rooting and the apps you mentioned.
My idea is that ask him very friendly to flash the latest official stock Rom.
Tell him that you prefer the official rom of Google.
Because you want official support when there is something wrong. And you don't need root acces because you only use 'normal' apps.
As everything there are disadvantages.
A rooted phone allows you to install layers. That makes it possible to choose dark themes. And that's important when you need a better battery life.
I Bet he's using Cerberus. Go into your settings>apps, select to include system apps. You'll be looking for a app name: system framework. If you see this He is tracking you using Ceberus, . This app/service is pretty awesome. I was able to track my phone down, see the texts sent, turn the mic on and listen to where my phone was at. .
Like everyone said flash a new rom. clean slate. Then dump dude, there should be no need for that crap.

Once i called tech support for my phone, they said they couldn't help me because they're third party apps that are not legal to use in the first place.
long story short, his mom confirmed recently that he in fact has my phone hacked. can somebody please give me insight on the apps he installed and the purpose they serve?? what kind of access/capabilities does he have now that my phone is rooted even if i restore my phone???

to me, a "specialist", it sounds like he did you a favor, by rooting your device, and adding apps that you will need to control your own phone. your "own" i say because otherwise you are just using someone elses device, that you happened to pay for with your money. so, instead of posting a pissy thread, id do a little more research on how to control your own phone, and then tell him thank you.
oh, btw, just because the apps arent from the play store, it does not make them illegal to use, at all. you can use whatever app you want, from wherever you want, LEGALLY.
I'm coming round to istperson's point of view - this thread is beginning to look more and more like an elaborate pointless hoax, and not a very funny one.
There are far too many of these threads where people ask a question and then disappear without the courtesy of a sign-off or even a "thank you". Very discouraging, and makes me less keen on spending my time here trying to help timewasting ingrates...
I'm gonna close this thread for now. If the OP has anything else to add they can contact me again to reopen it.
Not all apps are legal. It really depends on where you are living. As an example. Things like keyloggers, call recorders (depending on local laws) screen recorders and things of this nature are completely legal in some countries like China, while being completely illegal in other places in the world.
Also installing tracking software of any kind on someone's device is also illegal.
We have to remember that many people search for help on something, reg to the forum to get the answer and dont come back until they have another issue. This is becoming far more common as of late.
