like most MHL cables that include the charging port (where you just plug in from wall), is there anything like this for OTG??
tried finding and searching but nothing.....
If you're looking for power going to the USB device, then you can use this.
If you want to charge your Note while using the OTG feature, then I've not yet come across anything like that.
Just wondering if it is possible to charge the Note 2 while using the OTG yet? I'm in my car all the time and use an external SD card. My 64gig internal card is already full.

How about a scenario where I have External Battery charger and OTG adapter with usb stick. I want to watch the movie on usb stick while also have External battery connected charging the phone. I guess it's the same problem as not being able to charge up phone from any external source while using another device connected to OTG?

You could make your own micro USB OTG cable. I still haven't seen one for sale anywhere.

Oh, I don't have issues with OTG cables. I have adapter and cables, and modified cables before: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2107985
I just want to figure out how I can watch movie from usb-stick while charging my phone at the same time. There seems to be no solution for that yet? Or are you suggesting there is a way to make a custom cable to do that? I think once you attach OTG cable to connect a peripheral device, you turn Note 2 into host and it will not accept charging from micro-usb port. No way around it

Oh, I understand what you mean now. In that case, you are correct. You cannot charge your phone and use an external thumb drive at the same time through the usb port. When you plug in an external drive, your phone switches the USB power cables to send the juice instead of receive it.
The only ways I know around that are to use a wireless charge stand or the desk dock.

Isn't this exactly what sammys smartdock does? Charge and otg simultaneously?

Yep. Not possible with just a cable. It needs a microprocessor to regulate the current in and out. Devices plugged into the dock are powered by the dock's power, not the phone's.

I hear what your saying, but looking at threads in the S3 section like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953061 got me thinking... I'm just trying to make an audio cable for my car that charges and has 3.5mm out to my radio. And I need it to work with every 4.1.X kernel and above, especially stock.

If you get a pinout for the s3, might be able to modify a cable to do both.
Not sure if this has already been discussed/discovered, but will it be possible to use the new Nexus dock "and" an OTG cable at the same time? It seems feasible given that the dock charges the device using the pin connectors which frees up the USB port.
One possible problem is that the dock also acts as a passthrough for data/audio so there may be a problem with the tablet trying to reconcile both sources trying to have simultaneous access.
I ask because it would be nice to be able to charge my Nexus 7 and utilize an OTG cable (for storage drives and game controllers) at the same time. I know there is an OTG Y-cable solution, but that involves rooting the tablet.
Has anyone already explored the possibilities of this combination?

I read somewhere else that while docked, the device doesn't react to an OTG cable. This is just what I've heard, haven't seen it confirmed.
This guy did something similar, and the results are evident: Dock point is useless! Charge and OTG can not be carried out simultaneously!
Would be nice to know, if Timurs kernel, which allows charging and multiple USB would solve this. Have no dock, so I can not check. What I would like to have is something like the magnetic pogo charger which is annonced for Nexus 10.
So this is probably a stupid question but I'll ask it anyways.
Is it possible to hook the Nexus 6 to a powered USB hub and then have it charge and pass data through that hub? More specifically if I were to run Torque on the phone could I hook the USB OBDII sensor to a powered hub, then run a cable from that hub to the phone and have the phone both read the data and charge?
Like I said probably a stupid question but from what I've searched I can't really find an answer.
I do assume it to be possible, Just really don't want to spend the money on the stuff without some other thoughts on the matter.
Evening all
I'm planning on building my own dock for my OP3 to sit on my nightstand and charge at night. The goal of the dock is to charge the phone, but also have two or three USB ports for backing up photos and such during the nighttime hours, as well as an Ethernet adapter so that my phone has a wired network connection as well.
So I guess my question is, are there any powered USB Type-C hubs out there that fit this criteria? Again, it needs to:
--Charge my OP3 via USB C
--Ethernet adaptor
--Two or three USB ports for expanded storage.
I've considered using a Raspberry Pi for this, but I wanted to see if there was anything else first before I dove in to the project.
Cheers
Wow.. Your project is awesome. Please do post the results.
P.S. I have seen a hub like this for another phone not OnePlus 3 although it did not have any ethernet adaptor.
P.P.S. If possible, can you put a diy guide once you are finished? That would be amazing...
idk if this will work as I think our phones cannot charge and transfer data at the same time.. which means you either chose to back up your photos or charge your phone.
but you can try if this will work. its meant for MacBook but it should work ive used a MacBook usb hub on my one plus3. also don't expect dash charging..

Im looking for a type c hub for my note 8 that supports dex and has atleast 2 usb 3.0 (5Gbps) ports and that will fast charge my device.
I had a hub a while back that said it supports fast charging. But when I sat it all up and tried playing a movie from my phone through the hdmi port, my phone was dying fast. Even with my samsung oem adaptive charge plugged into the pd port on the hub.
Anybody know a good hub that will do the trick thats under $55 USD?
