accessibility services keep turning off - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

My phone is rooted and installed twrp.
I have problem, accessibility services keep turning off. I enabled greenify in accessibility but after couple minutes is turn to off.
Its happening whit all installed apk like dashlane, nova launcher, greenify.
What the f*ck turn my services off?

Same thing is happening to me. Any idea how fix it?

Same happening to me

At first try to add these apps to all possible whitelists of Huawei power management apps. It should not be cleaned by RAM manager and should be left not closed when screen is off. It helped here.

I put greenify in protected app and for now is ON in accessibility. Last 2 day working ok.

Just go in phone manager, in protected app in second page. Check your apk here.

Thanks but in protected app I don't have the apk, only a list of installed applications

Yet another EMUI "feature". Hating when it happens to me as well, though I do have mixed luck with whitelisting the apk in question (where ever you can - why the hell do we have both the battery keep-running-with-screen-off feature, and the "ignore optimizations" crap? And what does this even do?).

Settings - apps - "Advanced" - "ignore optimisations" - select "all apps" from the drop down menu - set apps in question to "allowed".

Nope, I don't have these settings (Huawei x2 702L B006)

So, if these settings are not there, and the "protected apps" also does not solve the problem, any suggestions?

I have done this but still my apps like LastPass, Greenify, LookOut still get closed.
Is there another option I am missing.?

Same here with Roboform password manager on Mate 9 with EMUI 5.0 . All system settings give it permission and exemption from optimization. But accessibility is turned off after a very short time of the phone screen being off. There has to be something strange going on.

Strange this has not been fixed.

IMHO Huawei or EMUI should let us manage the system whitelisted apps..
It is obvious that the phone administrator is not enough to ensure we can leave opened on background 100% sure some apps... My telegram app from time to time also appears stopped.. Mmmm "strange" but easy to solve for huawei's developers if they were interested in
So strange^2

Actually I have found that it is a feature not a fault. I rang up Huawei to ask for help.
What you need to do is go into Settings (swipe down from top, then cog wheel) > Battery > Close apps after screen lock
Then scroll down to your 'problem' app, and switch to off.
You might be surprised at the apps that have managed to get themselves set to off. I certainly was.

Even having setup properly battery optimisation to be ommited, keep open when close and whitelist on clean up sometimes telegram gets close... We all (or most of us) know.about that options to be setup but Huawei maintains a "hidden" apps whitelist like Google apps that are permitted to be run on background ... We know is not a big and we want to have full control of which apps.to permit 100% of time not decided by Emui. That's the point.

(How to Fix) Not receiving notifications fix!

With the way Huawei forces their "power saving" down our throats you are likely not getting all of your notifications for things like news apps and social media apps etc. I like their idea on trying to find ways to consume less battery, but man they are aggressive on the way they do it. Here is a fix that should work on all Huawei branded phones.
Step 1: First go to settings, advanced settings, battery manager and then to protected apps. Look for the app that you want to receive notifications from and then select "protect it".
Step 2: Go to settings, apps, advanced, ignore battery optimizations, then find the app and ignore it. This sounds kind of weird when you select ignore the app, but actually this means to allow it to run....... basically you are telling battery optimization function to ignore that particular app. Also known as "Doze"
Step 3: Go to settings, notifications panel & status bar, notification center, then find the app, then activate "allow notifications" and also "priority display". You must select priority or you won't get the notifications.
Works perfect for me. I spent countless hours trying to figure out why I didn't get notifications from my news apps and it drove me crazy. BTW....I have not experienced any battery drain at all.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO HIT MY THANKS BUTTON!!!

Hi, I have to say that Step 3 is not convincing.
Enabling priority display allow notification to appear during "do not disturb" mode. I don't want to be woke up during the night.

That is correct, but if you don't set priority you won't get the notification . Been there and done that ready. You can try not setting priority and see if works different for you, but when I turn off priority for the app I do not get the notification.
Please let me know if yours works differently as I am interested.

If you are right, then Huawei software developer must be brainless. For god sake, why on the earth getting a simple notification is so freaking complicated??
I'll try to set priority notifications, but even if it works it's not a solution for me.
I'll let you know man.
Thank you.
This one is working for sure, i found this solution out myself.
Push notifcations
To make push notifications work again create a widget (provided with the app) and place it on your home screen.
The widget will keep the services alive, even when you close the app in the taskmanager.
Make sure you toggle them on in the protected apps menu and put the powerplan on performance mode.
This works for all apps that came with the option to create a widget for it.

This sure would have been nice to have had this info prior to my 2 days of trial & error to get things working. As I do not receive or read all news outlets in regards to this phone, as is the case with many others, this was my sole purpose of my posting it here for others. In July I wasn't even considering this phone....actually I didn't even know this phone existed then. Another reason for my posting the info here. Luckily we have this forum as a go to place.

disabling phone manager Causes problems? second : can i restore back phone manager?
I uninstalled phone manager, the method worked and got rid of it, Now I get better notifications but I'm still having the issue, still some notifications are not shown.
Deleting it does not solve 100% of the problem!

power-intensive apps being killed

Hey all,
there is probably nothing new for you that the long-running application consuming some bigger amount of power are killed after some time on Huawei P10 (and on other Huawei/Honor phones using EMUI). I use Runkeeper for example and it's always killed after some time (1-3 hours). I tried those:
Settings > Battery > "gear icon" > "Close excessively power-intensive apps" > Off
Settings > Battery > Lock screen cleanup > "Don't close Runkeeper app"
Apps > Settings > Special access > Ignore battery optimization > "Allow Runkeeper app"
I tried to kill "Power Genius" system app. I tried to kill "imonitor" system app but it's started again in a while
I tried to open the recent applications and lock the application by a padlock.
There is nothing more I could try. Still the same issue. So my question is if there is some workaround for that even when I would have to root my phone.
Thanks!!
Try to Open the recent application and click the lock icon to keep the application from being killed.

Same probleam with me cant fix
It seems that the only workaround for that is to buy a big powerbank and keep a phone charging all the time you are running a power-instensive app. Then the app is not killed.
I hate Huawei. They do not reply to my mails and a support does not work. This bug should be fixed for a phone like P10.
I had a similar problem with Strava. After an hour or so it was killed. Hopefully the issue gets solved in the B164 version.

I hope that also. The option to turn off this aggressive behavior is in the settings but it obviously doesn't work. I'm pretty sad that I didn't find any way how to report this bug to Huawei. I just got an anwser from Czech 1st level support that I can complain about it to a seller. I hope that they know about this bug and they are going to fix it. It's already 3rd update and this bug is still there.
Did it get fixed?
I’m currently looking into buying a new phone, and I came across the P10 and fairly quickly this issue caught my attention - I’m not going to buy a phone that automatically kills the programs I want to have running, so does anyone know if this got fixed?

GUIDE: How to avoid EMUI system from closing apps running in the background

Hi guys,
I finally found a way to prevent the system form closing applications that I want to keep in background.
First, what most where suggesting is this:
Settings -> Battery -> App Launch -> Turn off "manage automatically" and allow the apps you want to to "auto-launch", "secondary launch" and "run in background"
This is a first step and some users reported it also helped with idle battery drain, however it did not help and system was still closing MX player like crazy if I paused whatever I was playing for a few seconds, so here is the important step for apps you want to keep in background:
Settings -> Apps -> Apps -> three dots on upper right corner -> special access -> battery optimization -> change dropdown menu to "all apps" -> change apps you want to keep in background to "don't allow, may drain battery more quickly"
That's it!

I restart every morning after a charge because there must be memory leaks. After a day of no restarting it holds at most 2 apps in memory of that.
Also switching to fixed resolution helped a lot for me. There's deffo a bug there.

Same for me. Seems to do it more when using night mode. Killed Audible multiple times taking night shots yesterday evening. ?
Also there is a memory leak as the time goes on, my device didn't slow down, but i had stutters while playing games.
Phone needs seriously more polish, specifically the camera that closes down a lot of apps, doesn't feel like 6gb.

Hope this is a Typo.
The feature "Ignore Battery Optimisation" is there to allow you to exclude certain apps you want to keep running in the background from being closed by the battery optimisation feature. You do this by adding an app to the "Allow" list, (hence the, "Not recommended, may drain your battery more quickly), and NOT the opposite.
I know you're trying to be helpful but mistakes like this can cause more confusion.

I think the setting he's referring to is to turn off the notification warning of battery drain which won't help an app stay alive in the background but at least you don't get a notification that you are going to ignore anyway.
Anyone have any ideas as to what I need to stop from being managed automatically in order to keep the clock and battery tiles from being stopped every time the screen is locked?
I've been looking for this for ages! It works! Cheers buddy. You're a legend.

OneUI upgrade: notification issues

Hi all,
I have a Note 9, specifically SM-N960F (HW MP 0.700), its an Exynos I bought in Australia.
Samsung doesn't seem to have community forums in Australia, and the US one needs one to use an American ZIP code to sign up.
After my upgrade to OneUI, there may have been a few notification issues in the beginning, but later they've become worse. Quite a few apps don't notify, this issue is especially with G-Tasks, an app for reminders and lists. I don't actually remember Gmail working for a long time either, I have to manually open it to check for emails.
Even if I open the G-Tasks app a few mins before a reminder is supposed to be triggered, it won't happen. In developer settings, at the bottom there is a heading called "standby apps", where is seems is the only way to set apps to "active" so they don't automatically get put to sleep.
There doesn't seem to be any list or setting in the battery section in maintenance to select apps that never get put to sleep.
I've seen this link, but it doesn't seem to change anything:
https://www.theandroidsoul.com/one-ui-notifications-problems-and-fixes/
So, most other notifications work, but Gmail, G-Tasks and likely a few others don't. I've set both of these apps to "Active" in the standby apps section in developer options and also checked their own notification settings, disabled, then enabled their notifications, and nothing changed.
Any advice?
Thanks
Have you also confirmed that they are not enabled in 'Sleeping Apps' and 'Optimize battery usage'? Yes, OneUI did mess up with battery settings organization so here's how to navigate to each of these:
Sleeping Apps: Settings > Device Care > Battery > Settings on TDM in top right > Sleeping Apps. You can also play with other settings here.
Optimize Battery Usage: Settings > Apps > Special access on TDM in top right > Optimize battery usage.
PS: TDM is acronym for 'Three-dotted menu'.

Hi Paras,
Thanks for your advice, I've had a look and only Maps was set as a sleeping app. I've always have power mode set as medium and have just set it to optimising to see if that helps anything. It previously didn't affect my important notifications.

With medium power saving, is 'Restrict Background Data' ticked in your case? That will cause apps to only download data (and thus, notification) when they run in foreground. Each app can also be restricted or whitelisted to download data in background.

Hi Paras, yes, good point, I tried it by unticking the apps using wifi and mobile data in the background so that it only had "Limit CPU speed" ticked, and reduce brightness by 10%, and screen resolution to FHD+.
Gtasks still didn't trigger, I've put the power saving to optimised again and thats only when it works.

Reset the app preferences. Keep the app whitelisting or blacklisting as default. And then enable medium power saving without restricting data. You never know which service is responsible for fetching notifications.

Hi Paras,
Yes, I've also questioned which system service handles notifications and if there are settings or configs related to it.
For resetting app preferences, to you mean the individual apps and seeing if there is a button to set everything back to defaults? Are you referring to deleting cache? I've deleted cached for both Gmail and Gtasks apps a couple of days ago and it didn't seem to make a difference.
For black and whitelisting, are you talking about sleeping and disabled apps in the battery settings?
In developer settings, at the bottom there is the standby apps section and I've put Gmail as "working_set" as that seems to be what many other apps are.

- There are different services for showing notifications for different apps. For GApps, find anything related to Google.
- Find Reset App Preferences option on menu in 'Apps'.
- Apart from battery settings, Apps > Special Permissions > Optimize Battery Usage.

Hi Paras,
Thanks a lot for your advice, I've tried this for a couple of days now and it seems to work, I think the likely issue was to select certain apps and disable "optimisation" in the apps section.
Man, I only went into Apps to check permissions and maybe "Force Stop", I had no idea they'd bundled extra settings, including power management, crazy, they should have this in the battery settings.
Loads of other people must be having issues with certain apps, its important for people to easily isolate their important apps when they don't work, so Android just lets them run as normal, even under battery savings.
Thanks, you've helped me solve my problem.

Hi Paras,
Thanks a lot for your advice, I've tried this for a couple of days now and it seems to work, I think the likely issue was to select certain apps and disable "optimisation" in the apps section.

Yes, I agree, these settings are hard to find and that's what made me initiate this guide. Glad that I was able to help.

Thanks very much, will look through it, I may even write to Samsung about it for them to make it easier, especially for battery management.

I emailed Samsung Australia,
They replied saying they've forwarded my advice to the main office.
I linked in this thread in my email to them, hopefully they'll see your guide Paras.
I was shocked to learn how complicated these settings have become, thanks a lot.
It was very weird how after searching, I never came across it on the net.
I'll mention if Samsung contacts me again over this, hopefully a simple move or addition of the battery optimised app list from the Apps section in the main settings list to the battery settings in General Maintenance will happen to put all battery management related items in one place.

Thank you for the support, man. Wish you a great experience with your beast!

Is there any way to lock apps in memory on miui 12.0.9?

Hi, I'm on stock 12.0.9.0 (QJOEUXM - global EU channel)
This update redacted the facility to lock apps in memory and select Split Screen from the Recents menu (apparently it was unstable for some users - it's to come back in a later update)
So, as it stands when you long press an app in the Recents menu, instead of being offered Split Screen, Lock, Info, it just takes you directly to App Info
Until it's fixed, does anyone know of another way to lock apps in memory?
It's getting very annoying having miui kill processes all the time
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Did you try to change settings?

Very definitely, yes! I'd been scouring the settings menus to find this feature again but couldn't find anything relevant
This morning the miui Security app opened up and offered me the chance to Lock Apps in memory, meaning I could select the relevant apps which are now shutting down less often
Unfortunately I can't find any way to find this menu again! Miui settings menus are a maze!
And the answer is:
Security app » Settings cog » Boost speed » Lock apps
Thanks to u/sparklesunshine777 on Reddit for that

Hi. so this means apps that are locked don't get killed all the time? There is a lock function in the settings but that just prevents apps from staring without a finger print or pin I believe.
I found an option in CustoMIUizer to stop MIUI force closing selected apps. (but that needs root.) and it seems to help so far the app (RL Bubble) stopped only 1 time today instead of every hour or so but that is still 1 time too many.
So I added it in the security app too. Who would think to look there in stead of the settings. Great find! Thanks.
I think that they make the phones more and more complicated by hiding/relocating/renaming the settings every android version.
Hi, a quick question. I do lock apps in the background, but i notice sometimes the padlock is lets say highlighted and sometimes just dim.
Anybody knows what that is?
Thank you.

Jesus, finally. Thank you man
I have an issue related to this in stock miui with netguard vpn - basically its still killed once in while even though:
Its already locked as described above including autostart;
its already set in stock android system settings for battery use as "not optimized"
its also set with the miui app settings battery saver as (no restrictions)
it's set under network settings as (always on);
So what else can I do non-root to prevent this happening?

Super annoying stuff. especially when you want to multitask, the last resort if not buying a different brand phone is to install a custom ROM, and get rid of MIUI altogether. Imo, even tho battery is not as good is a good sacrifice for sanity.
