If flashing recovery is unsuccessful you're best bet is to flash the sbf firmware with rsdlite , this has happened to to more than a few including me

This is what I am seeing on the screen:
Fastboot reason: Reboot to bootloader
Downloading 10090496 bytes

Flashing Recovery
Done
Everything looks correct. This is a DE phone. Does that require flashing the SBF with RSDlite?

look alot of people are having this issue it is a simple fix follow the directions step by step
Code:
mfastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img
as soon as you type the above command to flash TWRP we need to boot the phone into recovery before we let it boot to android we can do that via the command below.
Code:
adb reboot recovery
MAKE SURE THAT AFTER YOU TYPE THE FIRST COMMAND DO NOT LET THE PHONE BOOT TO ANDROID.
right after you hit enter for the mfastboot command type the reboot command it will boot into recovery. if not i would redownload the correct TWRP recovery for 4.4

Step 2 should be done with Mfastboot, not fastboot.
Repeat all three steps with mfastboot and you should be good.

Like I said previously ,flash the kitkat firmware, forget jb. You can not flash back to the pre camera ota, gpt.bin is the bootloader which if is incompatible will fail, saving you from hard bricking your device

What errors are the RSD and fastboot actually failing with?
When you're trying to do the fastboot flash, does "fastboot devices" actually show your device as connected?
-----Edit----
Are you sure that is the right version of the firmware? I'm waiting for access to the files from the moto site right now so I can compare the full file name, but I'm pretty sure you have the Maxx Dev Edition firmware file there.

You are THE MAN! Quick question regarding SuperSU.zip...Do I unzip it in windows and MOVE the 4 folders to the phone, OR do I only need to move the UNZIPPED SuperSU file to the phone? I am about to flash recovery and want to be sure. Thanks so much!!!
Boot into TWRP, open cmd prompt, type "adb push SuperSU.zip /sdcard" then hit enter, select install then SuperSU.zip.

Flashed TWRP entering "mfastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img" OK. When I enter "adb reboot recovery" I get device not found and nothing happens. This is stopping me from rebooting to Recovery. On the phone, I highlighted RECOVERY, hit the UP button, and it booted to Android.

no problem glad everything worked out for you enjoy
just got my brand new developer edition moto x. successfully unlocked the bootloader, successfully installed TWRP recovery, successfully installed SuperSU, rebooted the phone and stupidly tried to update the software through the phone's system software update, got stuck in a reboot loop, and then attempted to flash a ROM. realized i bricked it. now i can't sideload a ROM and every time i try, i reboot to recovery, use the adb sideload, it looks like it's loading, phone says successful, asks if i want to reboot and then tells me that there is no OS.
i am brand new to this, and i've clearly effed it up, but really not sure how to fix it.
i attempted to follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515 but using the step two method but got to fastboot flash partition gpt.bin and got an error in terminal (i'm on a mac)
i would be most grateful for any help at all. i'm really stuck.
thanks in advance.
First... Boot the phone into Fastboot/Bootloader mode.
What is the version listed on the second line?
Next, you'll want to flash the rom that matches that bootloader version using a slight variation of Option 2 on that link... For example, if the bootloader on your phone is 30.B4 then fash the stock 4.4.2 SBF, if 30.B7 flash 4.4.4.
Start the steps with....
mfastboot getvar max-download-size
mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot reboot-bootloader
then use the rest of those commands AS they are written. yes, you'll be repeating the flashing of GPT.Bin and Motoboot.img, and that is intentional!
When you get back to stock, I suggest you take a few minutes/hours to read and familiarize yourself with what has been written.. Like don't take an OTA unless you have the STOCK recovery. If you have a 3rd party recovery and take an OTA you'll be stuck in a boot loop (to get out, boot the phone in fastboot and from the PC.. fastboot erase cache followed by fastboot reboot will stop the loop, then you can flash stock recovery back on there to take the OTA. Never DOWNGRADE the rom on your phone once you have 4.4.2 and up or you will brick, etc.
Bricked. Red "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly"
Following this guide I ended up bricking my Nexus 6. Please ask questions as this is my first time rooting a device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56938530&postcount=1
After typing "fastboot reboot" my phone begun rebooting, stopped and went to the red "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly". Now I am able to get to the fastboot menu. I am also able to get to the android recovery menu. Can anyone point me in the direction to get my phone working again?
Thank you in advance
You can get into fastboot. So restore to stock image. Or since you have custom recovery restore your working backup.
Then read the thread on root. Not just the first post. Read the most recent ones... They are the ones with the most up to date info. Never flash stuff or follow guides with out reading like the last 3-4 pages of the thread as well as the full OP AT A MINIMUM.
1)download google factory image
2)Extract everything in one folder.
3)Delete userdata.img from folder(because once i left it in folder and started flashing images one by one and ended up with empty internal storage.lost everything)
4)use these commands to flash
fastboot flash bootloader C:/image-shamu-XXXXXX/bootloader.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio C:/image-shamu-XXXXXX/radio.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash system C:/image-shamu-XXXXXX/system.img
fastboot flash boot C:/image-shamu-XXXXXX/boot.img
fastboot flash recovery C:/image-shamu-XXXXXX/recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
5)reboot
You don't have to delete userdata.img... Just dont flash it, and don't use flashall
Your manually typing these commands. Just don't type it. Understand what the partitions are and don't flash the ones you don't want.
And on that point, rather then flash the stock recovery, flash something like TWRP since your trying to root.
Wow. Thank you guys. I really appreciate it. Great group here.
Got it back up and running with 6.0.1 with your help. Since I have gotten this far I think I'll try out some ROM's.
Thanks again.

Can you be more specific...?
What did you flash...
Which rom are you coming from...
I dont know which exactly Rom was flashed at last (when this problem first occurs), because i have bought the phone in this condition.
I can boot into fastboot by holding Power+Vol- Button and tried to flash stock Lollipop or KitKat Rom several times. When the phone reboots in the end it still stucks at the "Warning Bootloader Unlocked" screen.
I can also boot into CWM Recovery by "fastboot boot CWM_Touch_Titan_v2.img". If i want to flash a zipped Rom from external sd the process aborts with "Cannot write to" "sdcard/clockworkmod/.last_install path".

Yes, i did or better tried it at least.
-> Trying to boot Stock Recovery ends with an Android lying on his back.
-> When i tried to install TWRP OR CWM Recovery the flashing process ends with "Mismatched partition size (recovery)"
-> When i try to boot into TWRP Recovery with the fastboot command "fastboot boot TWRP.img" my phone stuck at the teamwin screen.
The only Recovery i get to run is CWM (with the command "fastboot boot CWM.img")

"mismatched partition size" is nothing wrong, it is basically just saying, that the TWRP image is smaller than the stock recovery one.

But when the phone reboots into fastboot after this message, it still shows me the Stock Recovery, where i end at the lying Android...
When i click on "choose zip from /sdcard" (internal) in CWM Recovery i can just choose between the folders sdcard/0/ and sdcard/obb/. There is also something wrong and not how it should be, isn't it?
Hi guys,
I am planning to return to Stock 5.1 on my phone, after running CM 13.
So I upgraded from 4.4 to 5.1 my manually flashing the zip in recover.(XT1053_GHOST_TMO-RETAIL_5.1_LPA23.12-15.5_cid9_CFC.xml.zip would be the file from https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto X (1st gen-2013)/Stock/XT1053 T-Mobile/)
From there I moved on to CM 12 and then CM 13.
Device version is XT1053.
Been facing issues with bluetooth devices and planning to get back to stock 5.1
So I tried manually(mfastboot) flashing components (boot, recovery and system). Boot and recovery went fine, but system gave me(similar) error.
load_file: could not allocate 829072920 bytes
error: cannot load 'system.img': Not enough space
Referred to this tutorial, http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515
and tried the manually method wherein I ran these 2 commands :
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
Threw some error(forgot to note them down) :|
Anyway, nothing work post that.
Tried rebooting, got the "no command" screen.
Eventually flashed TWRP and installed CM13 again from zip and got the phone booted up.
Running fine, but still can't to get back to stock!
Tried RSDLite method from the tutorial above, but RSD doesn't detect my phone on connecting.
adb devices command does list the phone.
Can someone please point me in the right direction ?
btw, noticed something weird after failed partition flash.
Whenever I mfastboot recovery/boot it throws an error unknown command 'recovery' (or boot), but flashes fine.
Is this normal ?
Regards,
Neel Indap
