Sony Xperia SP - touch screen sometimes stops working after its replacement - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
After having unresponsive area of touch-screen on my Sony Xperia SP I decided to buy this from aliexpress and replaced it myself carefully. It works nicely, but after some time of using the touch stops responding. It might be that when I push too much to some very edge of this touch screen causes this (but sometimes not, so it is quite hard for me to detect what could be the real cause). After that I need to leave the phone for some time and eventually switch it off (by hardware OFF button on the back of the phone), then it works again. Restarting (switching phone on and off itself does not help, looks like one needs to wait and try to use again only a bit later). Does anybody have the same after touch-screen replacement on this phone, please? And maybe how did you manage to solve?
I have already tried to flash original firmware (generic CE1) inside (this works great with another phone Sony Xperia SP) just to be sure that it is not software related.
Thanks a lot in advance
Martin

I have replaced mine too but except from one issue everything is working fine. This issue is that the touch won't work if I restart the phone without turning it off before. That means that rebooting from the recovery into system and rebooting from system itself will make the screen unresponsive until I shut it down. Then everything is working normally. It's a bit annoying but if I simply turn it off and then on again instead of rebooting I can bypass this issue. I tried it with stock rom too and there the issue still persisted.
Furthermore I can push the screen as hard as I want and it does not affect the touch responsivness. That means if it's working it will still work after pushing it hard and if it's not working (because of rebooting) it will still not respond.
So I would either suggest you to check if it is connected correctly and if it is maybe replace it with a different one.
In my case the first screen replacement didn't work perfectly so I got a new one and that finally worked.

Thanks a lot for your response.
I actually took the phone apart several times (disconnected and reconnected connectors inside there), hoping that it could help. I also tried to put insulation between the touchscreen and the phone frame, as I noticed that it was attached on the original touchscreen, but was missing on the new one. So I gently removed it, then sticked it onto the new one. Still did not help with my issue.
Which kind of issue you had with your first replacement?

The issue was that a small part of the sreen didn't respond. The second one was working fine then.
You could order a new one and test if get's better. If not simply send it back. At least that is what I would do in order to minimze the possible sources dor that error.

Thanks for the reply once again. In the meantime I have contacted the seller, also got in contact with service-man, who is willing to have a look at it.

Then I wish you good luck :fingers-crossed:

Tilt no longer enjoys being touched.

So, i'm usually quiet on these forums. Just reading, trying roms, etc. But here is something that has me stumped. Last thursday my phone crapped out. When i woke up and looked at it (it was connected to my laptop/charging) Applications were opening left and right, i couldn't close any of them because stuff kept opening. I tried to soft reboot it and it didn't help. Once it rebooted stuff started opening itself at random again. I ended up pulling the SIM and battery out and leaving it for 5 minutes. When i put it back and powered it up the touch screen no longer worked, but apps weren't opening on their own.
What gives?
I have hard reset (which means it's waiting for me to touch the screen to setup my rom), i have also taken off the screen protector (in case it had something stuck under it. Neither of these things helped. Per the forums I got a new screen, just put it in, and the touch screen doesn't work still... I'm drawing a blank here can anyone give me some advice. Going back to my Prophet for the time being but I HATE not having a keyboard (and it's slower than molasses)
have you tried flashing a new rom via sd?
Check that the screen protector has not moved under the front bezel and keeps pressing your touchscreen.
Robert
I have totally removed the screen protector and even replaced the screen for that matter so I dont think that's it. I haven't tried flashing a new rom. I just found it odd that this has worked for so long and now I get what appears to be hardware problems. As for flashing Via SD memory, is that better than doing it via cable for some reason? I'd be willing to give it a go...
Any other suggestions?

Similar problem happened to my Kaiser phone, although no multiple files opened, the phone just won't react to any touching, not stylus pen either. So I first soft reset, then hard reset, none of them works, now the phone can Sync alright, but the screen just stands on the Window Mobile screen, saying "Tap the screen to set up your window mobile device"
I only have this new phone for <3 weeks.
I went to HTC site, want to download a latest ROM file from them, after typing in the S/N, it won't let me, saying that ROM is not suitable for my phone.
So now I am download ROM file from this site, will choose one to flash the phone, see whether it works.
I will call HTC tech support tomorrow after Thanksgiving, see what they suggest
Hope some gurus here can also make some suggestion, Thanks!
Well I replaced the LCD and the new LCD works great, but the screen still doesn't respond to touches. What gives?! I hard reset and I got past the windows screen alignment thing by creating a welcome.not file but it's still pretty much worthless w/o a touch screen. Anyone have any suggestions?
Whoa, i thought something odd was going on. Never mind i got entirely the wrong idea.
Ha, not the case.
Anyone know if a flex cable would fix my issue? I dont really know what the felx cable is for but i've seen posts about people replacing them w/ LCD problems. I don't know if it is touch screen related or not, and i'm kind of tired of buying parts that don't fix my problem
please just flash a new rom whch ever you want (for some reason i thought you said that it keeps restarting your device because if that was the case the only option you would have was to flash via sd as activesync would load long enough for you to get a connection to flash from the computer)..trust me just try it..what have you got to lose
I reflashed one yesterday actually. The newest HyperDragon (which is looks like a new one is available today) It wasn't rebooting but initially windows were popping open left and right so i restarted it a couple of times(which i first had the problem, not yesterday) Yesterday it worked like any normal rom w/o the ability to touch. Anywho, after the flash of a different rom. No luck. I'm thinking it's a hardware problem of some sort but as i've already replaced the LCD i have no idea what?
yah thats sounds funky..you can bring it in for a warranty exchange either at a local DSC or over the phone (that is if your with att) and if not call HTC..all devcies come with a 16 or 18 month warranty
Well I called ATT yesterday, apparently I purchased the phone On Oct 17th 2007 which means It's out of warranty (apparently it has a 12 month warranty?) So it sounds like I'm SOL. So, i guess I'm off to ebay to try and fine a phone that I can canibalize to try and get mine going again.
touch screen
this may sound dum but when you replaced the screen did you replace the touch part as this is different from the screen
Well I picked up this
http://www.blackberry8100parts.com/...B3-NEW-HTC-TyTN-II-KAISER-P4550-_p_35-70.html
which includes the digitizer (from what I know it's all one part when they send it to you) The screen has the digitizer built in. So i replaced the part they sent me.
I just stated having this issue. My touchscreen stopped responding to touches over the weekend while the keyboard was extended. I just took the phone apart to make sure everything was connected right & put it back together, & now the touchscreen doesn't work at all. This sucks!
Any news? i'm having the same problem: no response at all, stuck at "Tap the screen to set up Windows Mobile-based device"
An interesting problem with screen
well my tilt fell out of the car holster while using gps and i suspect the screen hit my gear shift. I didn't notice anything odd after i put the battery back in it (yeah it fell that hard lol). Later that night I went to check mail and noticed something not right. Turns out my screen seems to have been pushed in a bit. Well here's the issues I've noticed so far: All the touch responses seem fine except for 1) the screen alignment doesn't register taps, but otherwise the touchscreen works and 2) on the htc home screen, I can't tap the house icon unless I tap any other icon first.
Initially I thought there was some pressure or deformation right at that particular spot, but it reacts the exact same way in landscape mode. I can't tap the house icon first; I have to tap something else first, then the icon works fine until I open a program or something and go back to the home screen. Then I simply have to tap weather or something and then home.
I'd reflash the rom or do a hard reset, but the screen alignment didn't work when I tried it so I didn't want to get stuck at the "tap your screen to begin" part.
Any ideas or do I just need to buy another screen or maybe just the digitizer. the amount the screen seems recessed is maybe a millimeter at most. Just enough so that I noticed a difference when touching contacts just above the housing. I tried cleaning by using a business card and running between screen and housing. Ohh... and one more thing... when I open the cube and then close it, I get what I refer to a static frazzle for split second and it goes back to normal. That only happened a couple of times after the business card thing. Do you think I just loosened a connection? damn... I still haven't taken it apart yet. Think I need to. Any help appreciated.
If your screen does not work, you can still use your phone. There is an app that you use on your computer that acts as the touch screen. This also works when the screen craps out.

yeah -- my touchscreen didn't crap out totally, it just got muffed up when I dropped it a bit. Well, i went ahead and installed codefreaks remote screen alignment thing and did a hard reset. Well, the hardreset did the trick w/out the need for anything else. The alignment worked and everything. So, i'm back in business. Everything seems to work properly, except that my screen is still recessed a tad; but, that's not a big deal really.

G1(Dream) Touchscreen HELP!!

I was flashing a rom the other day (that i had flashed in the past and worked fine) and then i noticed that the touchscreen did not work. (everything else worked)
i flashed back to the cyanogen rom and my touchscreen still did not work.
(when i say my touchscreen doesnt work i mean that i cant touch anything, not even the android to set up my phone)
the trackball works but i am FORCED to touch the android and i cant
ive been flashing and still no luck, any ideas on what happened to my touchscreen or any ideas on how to fix it?
please help!!
I've seen a few of the threads. More than likely your touch screen has died (hardware issue - not software) and I'm not sure if that's replaceable.
Ask a technision :/ like the guy above said its proble the tS died may need replacement or ribbon isnt connected rite .
So whats my best bet in going about this?
i dont know what to do :/
if you feel like your able to take apart the phone and replace the screen, you could always try it. either that or buy a new phone or possibly a cell phone repair shop if you even have one.
i decided to kinda drop it.
it works now...
thanks for your help anyways guys!
D:
I wouldn't be DROPPING it to fix it...
Problem is probably a badly seated ribbon cable, which means it is STILL not well seated and will probably happen again.
Look in the screen hinge as you're sliding the screen open -- see the little ribbons in there? Probably got yanked a little.

[Q] [HELP]Ghost Touchscreen Presses, Constant!

So my phone was fine about 2 hours ago, then I took a call an hour ago and since the call ended my touchscreen has been going crazy. It's rapidly clicking the top and the side of the screen. I now have a completely new lockscreen with new widgets and a brand new layout with tons of app shortcuts haha. It even managed to change things I didn't know how to change!
My phone is completely unusable. The clicks happen so fast that if I do manage to unlock it, every app I own starts opening.
Anyhow, I looked around and all I found was a grounding related screen issue on other phones like the nexus4 and lg g2. Since the XZ is sealed thats not really an easy test!
Can I get some suggestions?
Tried so far:
Cleaned screen
Power Cycle
Factory reset
Flashed stock FTF
I'm assuming my next step would be to try replacing parts, but I have no clue which parts I'm looking at. I have a c6602 model XZ
Worst part, I have a phone interview first thing in the morning and this is my only phone
TL;DR
Screen spamming pressing @ top center and mid left, factory reset had no effect.
PS: Phone is not mistreated and hasn't been dropped.
next step is to flash a tft file,if that didnt work i guess your screen is screwed, btw my friend has a x2 and its kinda a problem with that phone

I reflashed the rom via sony's updater. It's still broken. I couldn't get adb connections to work because they required verifying the connection. I'm assuming the sony tools ignore this step.

I think this is the piece to replace, can anyone confirm?
edit:
looked at the replacement process, looks like a full lcd+digitizer is a better idea as the screen is gonna break if I separate them. always something. anyone know a good quality replacement?
touchscreen no longer responds at all, spamming touches have stopped.

[Q] I have replaced my screen twice but the touch screen stops working after 24h

Hi friends,
A week ago I decided to finally replace the cracked screen of my phone. The phone was perfectly working, with the exception of the annoying lines everywhere around the broken glass.
I went to a repair service (not official) to have it changed for a new one (glass+lcd) and got it back repaired after few days.
During the first hours the phone was working just fine, but I noticed that the touch screen was slowly getting erratic. After few hours it was just a bit erratic but ok. 10 hours later it was almost impossible to use already. 24 later it didn't respond anymore to the touch.
I went back to the repair service and asked for a new screen that I got for free because we assumed it was a problem of the new screen. Problem is, it happened exactly the same with the second one!! And now, 24 hours later, it doesn't work anymore.
I have done a factory reset. I have flashed new ROMs, I have flashed back to the stock ROM, updated it, nothing has changed so it totally looks like a hardware issue.
My question is:
What may be causing my new screens to go mad after working perfectly fine during the first hours?
Summary:
My Moto G 2014 works perfectly, but it has a crack in the screen
Decide to go to a non official repair service to have it changed for a new one (LCD + Glass)
First hours with the new screen: All works fine
Slowly, the touch screen becomes more and more erratic
24 hours later the touch screen is useless (it still reacts to touch but totally mad and weak)
Decide to have it replaced again (this time for free)
With the second new screen, we test that works fine, and to confirm that is not the phone, we install back again the first new screen, verifying that it doesn't work.
Finally install the second new screen. All seems to be perfect!
Experience again all the previous points
What should I do lads? Did the repair service **** my phone? ;^(
It could be that water somehow got in (speaking from experience).

How would that explain that the newly replaced screens work fine for the first hours and then gradually stop working?. Also , I can't imagine how water got in the phone for the last weeks, besides, it works perfectly, is just the touch screen.Water would most likely **** more things. no?
Has anyone experienced the same problem as me?
thanks!
Is it genuine?

The screen? I don't actually know. But after changing twice the LCD seems unlikely that the LCD was defective. It may be more related to my phone (although I can't understand what) and something the guy of the repair service ****ed.
Any thoughts?
thanks for the help

[Q] touchscreen working at boot, but stop working after some time

Hello xda community,
I contact you because my mum's phone fall and screen broke.
She took it to a phone repair shop that changed it, but she said it was still not working.
I was away, it was few month ago but now I came back and try the Z1 and touch and screen and everything was working fine when I tried. But after like 10 min no touch.
I found the way to reboot it, and when I reboot most of the time touchscreen work again, but go away fast.
I searched and found some thread talking about software issues for touchscreen, so I tried updating to lineage, but it's doing the same, so I suspect HW failure.
This phone still seems nice to me, the battery seems to still be ok, the screen quality is good, the lineage 16 is fine so... if I can revive it, I'd be happy to do it.
Any idea what can be wrong ? Is there any component failure that could lead to that ?
Thanks guys.
