I've found a few changes with 6.0.1 and figured I'd post them for others to see. Feel free to post things you've noticed as well!
The GOOD:
-Encrypted phone can now be unlocked with a PIN instead of a password (FINALLY!)
-Samsung Good Lock can be installed and seems to be working great. You can't get it from the app store but I found it pretty quick on Google.
-Battery life seems to be better. I just factory reset my phone 4 days ago (and did another one after installing 6.0.1) and it still seems to last a little bit longer. I had 2.5 hours of screen on-time last night and it went down to 73%. I was in settings messing around and installing/setting up apps; not bad IMO.
-I was able to add a credit card to Samsung Pay while encrypted. I recall some people were having issues adding cards to 5.1.1 if the device was encrypted, looks like it was fixed.
-The DND setting are WAY improved. You can now set it to ring if someone calls 2x within 15 min and other fine-tune options
-The BAD:
-Pie Pro doesn't play well with secure startup; It wants me to disable secure startup to enable the back button for some reason. I am using an older version (the new update is awful) but I may upgrade to see if I can get it to work. Not a deal breaker, but I really like Pie controls.
-You can no longer install the multiwindow toggle .apk to get the mobile data toggle back. I was able to get the mobile data toggle back by installing Good Lock, but the multiwindow app doesn't let you set it any more. This almost made me mad, why ATT removes the mobile data toggle is beyond me.
I'm having an issue where I can't select apps for the Active Key shortpress/longpress. Every time I tap on one to change it, I get the 'Unfortunately, Settings has stopped' message. Anyone else seeing this?
Nope, not on either S6A I've upgraded. I performed a factory reset as well, if anything try that.

I've found that you need to do a factory reset on all updates, especially major updates like this, to avoid random errors. I've also felt that it helps keep battery life high.
My experience has been pretty good on battery. Much better than 5.1.1. I installed the good lock app from the galaxy apps store, and all has been good. It unlocks faster, able to hold apps open for longer, and just feels more refined. I did not do a factory reset. I haven't hit any glitches or errors, just the Google services when it first updated but that is about it. Running smooth
Not having Data Toggle (and I guess Private Mode?) is rather disconcerting.....
Anyone know a simple tried and true way to get these back on stock 6.0.1?

Samsung Good lock (download from galaxy app store, it's not on GPlay) will restore data toggle, and I have private mode... It's definitely in the options, I just checked.

Does anyone know if this debloater might work for our S6/edge? I found the link in the AT&T Note 4 forum. It requires no root.

looks good to start. I was using it with my N4 (you'll see me active in the thread) I grabbed an S6 today and tried it out. Read packages ok, did a filter for ATT. Checked off to hide all. a reboot for grins and no more att bloat. quicker than going through the menus / launcher and disabling each one at a time.
Even with the N4, if you disable something you shouldn't worst case is a factory reset. You're not going to brick the phone.
Nice to see it worked and much faster as well

Fortunately Samsung built in a VERY quick way to disable the apps as to not burden you with "disabling each one at a time". All you have to do is go to the app drawer, tap the "edit" button in the upper right corner, then hit the minus icon on the apps you want to disable. Cool thing about this is that you would never have to deal with a factory reset either....
Plus even if this didn't exist, wouldn't you prefer disabling one at a time over factory resetting? lol
When hit the recent apps button and go to swipe my open apps closed, there is considerable lag. Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?
Thanks!
Definitely have this problem. It's even worse when Animations are set to OFF. IMO Lollipop is generally slower/laggier than KK. Also, I'm not able to get Ambient Notifications to show. I don't have a lock screen but when email or message arrives or I pick up the phone nothing happens.
Did you do a factory reset after the update?
No, cant say that I see any lag when opening the "Recent" screen and I did not factory reset my phone - just straight upgrade from KK. It's been flawless so far

I agree, there is definitely a bit more lag than KitKat but certainly not unbearable (minus the app manager). I'm able to get the ambient notifications to work however I have decided to stick with Moto display. I have not performed a factory reset yet. Is there a thread that shows how to perform a reset where I can back up my app data (Pictures, game progress, etc...)?
Seems fine to me.

Only the Nexus 6 has the software which allows Ambient Notifications to show when the phone is picked up.
Its smooth for me, the only thing I notice is that you need to touch the title bar of the window not just the whole window. So if you're closing Settings you need to touch the bar that says Settings not just the black window below it.
Notifications were turned off when updated, search in the settings to turn them back on.

Use Gdrive Autosync.
More here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60978914&postcount=3
I keep my entire SD sync'ed to Gdrive.
I love the device so far, ran only into two minor hiccups.
1) I had other Huawei phones recently and either this is new or I managed to disable it previously and forgot how: When I open the app list I get a row of "suggestions" and find those useless/annoying. Can I fix that?
2) I .. didn't even know that it would come without a notification led before it arrived at my doorstep. Somehow every phone I owned in the last decade or so had one and I start to miss it. Are there any software fixes for this, maybe using the always on display mode?

for 1) - unninstall tips app
Thst doesn't change the behavior (bit is probably a good idea anyway..).
My app drawer starts with a row of suggestions (recent apps I guess), a little bit of separation space and then I have the normal A-Z listing of apps.
The suggestions are bad/crap/wasting space 99% of the time, so I want them gone. Tips doesn't do that as far as I can see..

For the second the P30 pro has Always on display and after the 124 update shows all messages from all apps. Even from 3rd party apps.
How.. why..
That is a (cool?) app to show your battery status around the notch area.
It certainly has nothing to do with the app drawer/launcher problem, but I also don't see the relation to the missing notification led (although it would be cool if the app could function as that instead of a battery indicator, but then it also would need to be displayed whole the screen is "off").
Unrelated, no?

Unfortunately that seems not good enough.
For one, notifications are funky/working only half the time for me so far.
Worse, the notifications that do appear on the always on display are gone after I unlocked the phone once. Even if the notification still exists/wasn't dismissed, it's now gone from the always on display.. :-/

I think this app might work for you Always On Edge - Edge Lighting ? ; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
I'm using it on my p30 pro and also the s10 plus. You can disable the edge lights and only use the notification icons if you want.

Thanks, that .. might be a solution, maybe. Will spend some time with it, a quick install was both interesting (it's really customizable) and disappointing (some things didn't work at all and I'm .. unsure how it interacts with my default lock screen, how the unlock process is changed).
Maybe just needs more time to check it out? Unfortunately I haven't found proper documentation and the spelling in the options is a bit hard in places [English is a foreign language for me too, so no blame here].
I realized that when I change some settings in ColorOS it magically changes back without telling you.
I installed Google Assistant from the app store. It required Google Assistance to be selected as the default Assistive App [default value : none]. After I changed that.. it changes back at some random amount of time.. I'm not able to work out how long it takes for it revert the setting.. but sure enough it will.
Another App is LastPass.. It requires me to Enable Autofill from accessbility Options.. Once again I turn it ON.. after some random amount of time it will revert it back to "Off"...
What can be done to stop this from happening?

Happens to some degree in the EU model too, noticed the lastpass app autofill stops amongst other things. Am thinkin maybe it's the Phone Manager app which I think kills battery intensive apps if you allow it

I'll give this a try.. I've gone into phone manager -> startup manager and allowed the two apps.. the two apps wasn't there even though I have allowed the app to run in the background.
We will see tomorrow.
Nope that didn't work.. anyone else have other suggestions? Anything to remove delete or hack?

Man,I don't know what the issue is but read on the Realme community that the OS just reverts to defaults to ensure proper functioning of the phone,
ColorOS is certainly the biggest downside to this phone. Am missing OxygenOS on my 6T a lot though I'm Gona stick with the x2 pro for now,
Bought the phone for its flagship specs and storage and and to get away from the hassle of messing around with the phones setting's with tricks and mods.
Have decided to just accept colourOS for what it us.,though there is some battery drain,it's not awful and I'm still getting notifications.
Will just have to hope things improve with updates and the next big update should improve things a lot, mind you,it's a long way to April ?
Not notice anything revert on mine... This sounds like the same issue I had on the mi 9... I can't remember how I solved it but it was something to do with the auto security checks the phone manager app did... After a set amount of time the phone manager would perform certain checks and reset certain options throughout the operating system.

Sounds about right,Have feeling the phone manager app has something to do with it.It does not like the developer options
Ok.. I found my work around for now.
I'm using tasker every 10 mins to change the accessibility options for all the apps that need it and set the google assistant to default.
Working ok so far for the last day.

Seems like more trouble than its worth, the only settings I'm having trouble keeping are the animation ones, but honestly it's not bothering me anymore. Have animations setting set to fast in the stock launcher setting and it's not so bad.
Didn't think lastpass was working but it has been appearing to autofill login to sites in a chrome

Nice suggestion... Ill try this :good:
Hi, I'm on stock 12.0.9.0 (QJOEUXM - global EU channel)
This update redacted the facility to lock apps in memory and select Split Screen from the Recents menu (apparently it was unstable for some users - it's to come back in a later update)
So, as it stands when you long press an app in the Recents menu, instead of being offered Split Screen, Lock, Info, it just takes you directly to App Info
Until it's fixed, does anyone know of another way to lock apps in memory?
It's getting very annoying having miui kill processes all the time
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Very definitely, yes! I'd been scouring the settings menus to find this feature again but couldn't find anything relevant
This morning the miui Security app opened up and offered me the chance to Lock Apps in memory, meaning I could select the relevant apps which are now shutting down less often
Unfortunately I can't find any way to find this menu again! Miui settings menus are a maze!
And the answer is:
Security app » Settings cog » Boost speed » Lock apps
Thanks to u/sparklesunshine777 on Reddit for that

Hi. so this means apps that are locked don't get killed all the time? There is a lock function in the settings but that just prevents apps from staring without a finger print or pin I believe.
I found an option in CustoMIUizer to stop MIUI force closing selected apps. (but that needs root.) and it seems to help so far the app (RL Bubble) stopped only 1 time today instead of every hour or so but that is still 1 time too many.
So I added it in the security app too. Who would think to look there in stead of the settings. Great find! Thanks.
I think that they make the phones more and more complicated by hiding/relocating/renaming the settings every android version.
Hi, a quick question. I do lock apps in the background, but i notice sometimes the padlock is lets say highlighted and sometimes just dim.
Anybody knows what that is?
Thank you.

Jesus, finally. Thank you man
I have an issue related to this in stock miui with netguard vpn - basically its still killed once in while even though:
Its already locked as described above including autostart;
its already set in stock android system settings for battery use as "not optimized"
its also set with the miui app settings battery saver as (no restrictions)
it's set under network settings as (always on);
So what else can I do non-root to prevent this happening?

Super annoying stuff. especially when you want to multitask, the last resort if not buying a different brand phone is to install a custom ROM, and get rid of MIUI altogether. Imo, even tho battery is not as good is a good sacrifice for sanity.
