None of my devices has ever had dropping problems with the WiFi (iPhone, iPad, S6 Edge+, notebook and a wifi extender). But since I bought the S2, it is randomly dropping connection, with no pattern.
Which model did you buy?
SM-T719
It's the latest 8" with qualcomm
Yes I'm having the same issue in the T713 model but not in the T813 model, both are th Qualcomm model
Im having the same issue with mine. I called samsung support and they were no help.
Same issue with sm-t713

Same issue with SM-T813, found a temporary fix.
Just replaced my SM-T810 with a SM-T813, and ran in same wifi drop issue. My girlfriend and her SM-T813 ran in the same issue too. It happen randomly from 3-4 times per hour to one time in 2 hours. I foud it only occurs on 2.4ghz network connected in N. It happen to me on 3 differents routers, DIR-868L REV B 2.04, DIR-868L Advanded Tomato, DIR-628, and Asus RT-AC68U stock with latest firmware. If i configure the 2.4ghz band to G only, no issue, also, the 5ghz band got no issues at all. Hope this help your issues while waiting for a fix from Samsung.
Thanks for the tip. I can confirm that 5ghz wifi works perfectly. Hopefully samsung will fix soon.

Valid information, ndompierre!!
I´m situated in Germany and bought a S2 8.0 (SM-T710, Android 5.0.2) last week.
One of my use cases is watching movies which are stored on my NAS. With my "old" Nexus 7 (2013) everything worked like a charm.
But with the S2 I ran into the issue that the movies stucked once in a while.
At first I thought it had something to do with the apps I am using, BSPlayer and MX Player Pro (which work fine with the Nexus).
I even downloaded VLC Player but the same behaviour occured.
Then I downloaded the movie locally to my Tab and deactivated WiFi. Bingo..played without any hiccup. Proof enough that everything is fine with the apps.
So I googled a bit and came across this WiFi issue others also have. After I followed your proposal and changed the 2.4GHz band in my router from option "802.11n+b+g" to "802.11b+g" everything works fine again. No dropout during the whole streamed movie.
So I hope, too, that Samsung will come up with a WiFi fix soon.
Interesting. I've noticed that since updating to MM, my T810 seems to frequently switch to my other wifi networks on me. My preferred SSID is 2.4GHz N mode. I never catch it happening when I'm using the tablet, but after going to sleep and waking it up it literally seems always to be on the "wrong" network if I've previously switched it to the "right" one (not sure if it hops off the other 2.4GHz ones as well). I'll stick wiht 5GHz for the time being!
Saw Spotify dropping out a few times this weekend while connected to a wifi Hotspot. Haven't had a chance to test it at home yet. T817W model running Marshmallow.

I bought the T719 LTE 8.0 inch Version last week and also hab wifi connection problems, but only when in airplane mode. My Router is am fritzbox 7490 at 5ghz. Currently without any reason the wifi connection is stable. When in LTE mode the wifi was always stable.
I have the same problem too. (T719 LTE model) I was wondering would the radio mode consume battery faster instead of airplane mode?
P.S. I still have problem but i am on airplane mode. Have not tried yet radio mode
disconnecting wifi
I have the t819 bought it last week constantly dropping wifi had the s3 tablet before never happened also have ipad and does not happen. Sent samsung an email but still waiting for reply
My T813 does this, but only on battery when optimization is on. When it's on the charger, or I turn power optimization off, it stays connected pretty solidly. I suspect a fault in the power management.
It is kind of annoying, as I have some clients that have to be restarted every time the network drops.

How do you turn optimization off? Battery optimization can be turned off on my tablet, but it has to be done app by app (one at a time)

I've notice a slight issue with my Tab. Sometimes, when it's been left sleeping for a while it 'forgets' to go back to wifi and stays on 3G connectivity, even though I'm sitting right next to the wlan router. If I check the wifi settings, the network is listed as 'out of range'. If I turn off wifi and then back on again, it connects without any trouble.
Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?
This is most certainly a router issue. The simplest fix is to reserve ip up for the tab and use fixed up settings.
I do this with all my LAN devices anyway because it adds a little security, as well as better interconnectivity.
But really you should investigate the router.
Somehow I doubt that. I'm using DD-WRT running on the classic LinkSys WRT54G, a combo that is widely famed for it reliability. I also have the router set up to serve a fixed IP to the Galaxy Tab, determined by the MAC address of the Tabs wireless interface.
I'm also running quite a few other wifi devices with the router, including three other android devices (G1, milestone, nook), and none of them show the same behavior.
I see... how many of your other devices use a dual band revision n radio? In my experience this can be a headache, even for custom firmware.
None, as far as I know. I'm not entirely sure about my wifes Motorola Milestone, but I'm pretty sure the G1 and the nook use bog standard 802.11g. I think you're right that this might be the problem. Any ideas how to improve that? It's not really a problem, just a slight blemish on the otherwise awesome experience.
This is well known android behavior making wi-fi sleep to preserver battery.
There are some mods to keep it on when sleeping.

Yes, and there's nothing wrong with that. I certainly don't want wifi on all the time, I just want it to reconnect when it wakes up.
Ill look into your router tomorrow, but atm I'd say there wont be much you can do other than force g only on the router. This will stop the tab from sending crc/ plcp overhead on both bands. Crazy as it sounds, the tabs radio is actually interfering with itself in this scenario.
I just replaced my HTC HD2 with the Samsung Galaxy Tab and have the exact same problem. The HD easily picked up my work and home WiFi when I moved between them, but the Tab 'forgets' to reconnect after standby.
I'm having this problem too. Every morning I need to turn off the wifi, then immediately turn it back on, before it will reconnect. This is with an Asus WL520GC running DD-WRT.
Yes, seems to be a router/device compatibility issue.
My tab works fine in my uni network (and it has quite a few dark spots), all of my friend's networks but it intermittingly fails to reconnect to my home wlan. I have a sky router (sagem actually).

I have seen this on various routers before and encountered it again last night.
There is a discussion on the cause here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839367&highlight=connect+wifi&page=3
It is due to the lease expiring from the access point and the device requesting the old IP with first sending a discovery message.
One work around - not the best - is to reboot the router. Then the Tab seems able to connect. Also I think if you connect ofter to the router you might not see this as the device will ask for a new lease.
Another - from the above referenced post - is to create a DHCP reservation for the Tab. This will ensure it gets the same IP address every time. I made this change to my router - so we will see.
Hope this helps.
Samsung Galaxy tab won't connect to WEP wireless
I am trying to get my Galaxy tab to connect to my HTC HD2 that is set up as a wi-fi hotspot.
My galaxy tab will connect to all WPA/WP2 networks but not the WEP. Please help.
mine does the same on a SMC Gateway (SMC8014WN) aswell as a D-Link Router (DIR-665)
I am going nuts here because of the same problem. Tab worked flawlessly for the last 4 months, found any router and had no wifi problems until recently. I have a D-Link DGL-4500 gaming router, and my dsl modem router also has a wifi connection. I suspect from the new firmware. Mine is a Euro model. I dont know why I upgraded from JK5 to JMG stock firmware, and wifi issues started. D-link's logs reports that it receives a deauth from the device and the connection ends... and never revives. Sometimes it happens 3-4 times in an hour, sometimes it stays connected for hours. I tried everything, static IP, delete dhcp list, etc. I have reset the device twice to factory defaults. Even then it disconnected the first minute I turned it on and set the wifi. So it should be a firmware issue. I realize that the wifi signal is also weaker now compared to the previous firmware. Congrats SAMSUNG! The Tab is consuming my data plan even when I am home. And I wonder how wifi only Tab is going to handle this problem. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WE CAN DOWNGRADE FROM JMG?? Help is appreciated.
my tab does the same thing (so does my x10). But when I open my browser, or anything that needs wifi, it reconnects automatically, however the browser usually needs to be refreshed (retry).

I should have noticed Roto's entering line. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939360.

Did you turn on Power Saver and Sleep Mode? Click the Power Saver mode in the Power menu in Settings. You can select what Power Saver controls. Untick Data Connection, and if you want, turn off Sleep Mode as well.
I have noticed some issued. I have the developer edition and upgraded from a nexus 4. There seems to be issues with the One releasing wifi and reconnecting to data or vice versa.
In some cases, i know i am clearly out of range for a wifi network, such as the top floor of my office, yet it picks it up and connects without data since i assume i am out of range. For now i just manually control it as its pretty rare, but fir sure not something i have ever experienced before.

Agreed this is what I am seeing.I have disabled power saving and the other option to turn off data when sleeping and yet periodically the wifi just drops as I am viewing some wifi video streaming. It is weird I switch off the WiFi and use data and all is fine. I do not know if it is an incompatibility with my router. That's why I posted here to see if anyone else is seeing similar issues.
Also is there a way to set a manual Ip? was wondering if that may help as have heard issues of other phones having issues with DHCP via wifi.

Well I got the ASUS RT-AC66U and now the Wireless 2.4GHZ works great but the phone will not connect at 5Ghz, so much for AC that only operates at that frequency. I heard other people are having this issue as well from my searches on this forum and the web. Kind of sucks that my router has the latest firmware and still has this issue with this phone. I did notice that there was a beta firmware on Asus's site but I am iffy on trying a Beta Firmware on my Router when all other devices are working great and so is the phone on the 2.4ghz. Great range with this router as well. Sucks that I can not use the 5Gz on the phone though. Tried on 2 other Devices that support 5Gz and it is working great on them. I gave 2 different names for the 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz to tell them apart, but no go on this phone.

here's my take on the whole wifi thing with htc one. either the wifi chip is too picky or it's too new for the older routers. i couldn't get a wifi to stay connected using my old D-Link DIR-655 router from years ago. All other devices had no problems except this phone so that's a bummer. I then picked up the Asus RT-AC66U and immediately flashed the latest beta firmware. Performance and range is flawless on the 2.4GHz band for this router. 5GHz works as well if i'm close but it just doesn't have the range of the 2.4GHz for this phone so I've been sticking with 2.4GHz.
I actually wanted the just announced RT-AC68U but couldn't wait any longer as there's no eta on the release for it.

I used to have a Belkin Wifi-N router cost me about 40$ on sale and it used to work with my old Samsung but could not connect and stay connected on my One (Single was not to strong on top floor of house as well). It kept dropping WIFI after a few minutes on One and was really annoying. The RT-AC66U works great at the 2.4Ghz and I am tempted to try the Beta Firmware that you are using but I hear it slightly drops the range on the 2.4Ghz and all my other devices (WD-TVlive) are working great streaming 1080P from 3 floors up (Routers in Basement). Question for you, since you flashed the Beta firmware and can connect at 5Ghz are you hitting the 400Mb speed when you connect at close range. If you click on your connected network on phone it shows you the connection speed.

unfortunately with the beta firmware on 5GHz band, the fastest i am able to connect with this phone is around 87Mbps and it still feels slow compared to 2.4GHz. mind you this is me checking the speed by standing right next to the router with my phone. on 2.4GHz the fastest speed i can get is 72Mbps but the range is great. i hope asus is able to release newer firmware that will help increase the speed and range of this router at 5GHz but it's probably not possible. i still think it's the AC chipset/driver in this phone that's preventing the wireless from achieving maximum speed. in comparison, my dell latitude notebook is able to connect at 450Mbps at 5GHz with on wireless N. THat's with the intel wifi chipset which has always been imo the best in compatibility and performance. i look forward to the day when i can rock a smartphone with intel all in one chipset.
I am also connected at 72mb and at 2.4ghz it connects great. I am going to leave it like this. I find the range on the Asus router is amazing. It sure beats all other routers.
Wicked wakelocks and WiFi issues
Just yesterday I started having wicked WiFi issues, where both 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks would connect, then immediately disconnect, then connect again a few seconds later for it to just do the same thing, over and over. It keeps sending reports everytime it does it. I haven't factory reset though, but I'm going to have to.
Also, I keep getting insane wakelocks. Android OS is the worst, causing 7h+ of wakelocks in a 10h day. Google Play Services is pretty bad too, around 6h+ in that same 10h day.
Anyone else having major issues like this with their Note5? I have the N920W8 model, which I can't really find any info about anywhere
Im having similar wifi issues. Initially trying to connect to my 5ghz N home network (wpa2 psk) connect attempt, drop, connect attempt drop rinse and repeat. After a while it connects and stays connected, however, connecting to any web pages is painfully slow (like a super slow dns lookup), and i frequently get failed web page loading errors or failed to download apps from teh app store. Wifi calling is useless in this state. The same thing happens on an open hotspot network at work (2.4ghz) and the corporate (5ghz n) network. The note will ususally eventually drop wireless and force me back onto LTE. I looked at my data counter after just 3 days, and had used 27gigs of LTE, which is more data than I've used on tmobiles network since last year. Had some spotty wireless issues with teh note 4 rev 3 5.1.1 as well prior, but only had that phone for about 10 days before swapping for teh note 5. Prior to that I had the nexus 6 and no wireless issues on the same networks.
J'ai le même problème avec le 5g damn!!!
Luckily i have a dual dualband router, I set up the alternate AP 2.4ghz N wpa2 psk and the phone appears to be working fine at the moment on that network.
I ended up factory resetting and it appears working for now. A static IP address (DHCP reserved in the router) seemed to help.
Another issue I have though is when disconnecting from WiFi and connecting to mobile data, it seems to have DNS resolution issues until I turn data off and then back on. Not sure if it's the phone or the carrier (Wind Mobile) but it's pretty consistent
Not seeing these issues on my W8.

I'm just having dreadfully slow WiFi on my att model, but it doesn't drop connection
Dial *#0011# and click "wifi settings" from the menu at the top right corner. Turn off power saving mode and restart the phone, see if that does the trick.
If not, google search "note 3 wifi issues" and/or "note 4 wifi issues"and look for answers there. In all likelihood the problems that are being experienced with Wi-Fi on the note 5 are similar to the Wi-Fi issues that the predecessors experience when they launched.

It's Lollipop. It's a known bug in the software since Nov 2014 and Google hasn't addressed it. I too had issues with my WiFi when I first purchased it. But I found the work around. The bug is in the security software. The WpA2-PSK with TKIPS or AES which is a catch all, reeks havoc on our WiFi chips. It doesn't allow the phone to have proper DNS addresses resulting in severely slow internet or dropped connections.
Solution: Change your security standard to WPA/WPA2-PSK without AES or TKIPS.

Is that a phone setting or a router setting?
Hey guys,
I've got an Australian Samsung note 5 that has wifi problems. It started not working all of a sudden so i decided to go along with it but after a while i felt the need to try and make it work again. So i went into recovery mode and factory resetted (thinking that it would help) but then on the boot up after i came to the setup screen and found out that i was screwed. The samsung setup screen doesnt let you go past the setup screen without any wifi. Please help, i wanted to post a thread but im new to this community so i am restricted.
Thanks
p.s wifi networks can be detected but only when the phone is held right next to the router.
I fixed same problem of wifi, its a setting in phone, but you need to root phone, its system setting in system folder.
Any updates on this? Im running one 920g completely stock and another 920g with hybrid n7 port v9. Both have this same issue.
Hi, is this the spot to ask about problems with the stock tablet? If not, I'm sorry. If, so please help!
So, I got a tab s2 for christmas. So far I'm loving it, except it will not stay connected to 5g wireless for long! Sometimes it will kick me out every half hour or so of continuous usage, other times it will kick me every 5 minutes. The connectivity problem seemed at first like I just had to adjust something with my network except that any other device that uses the 5g signal does not have that problem! ALSO, sometimes when it hangs it completely freezes the tablet and I have to do a hard reboot (power and vol down buttons) to make it usable again.
At one point I was in the wifi settings page and saw the wifi toggle go grey. It NEVER reconnected after 3 or 4 reboots! Is there something wrong with this particular tablet or is this some sort software issue?
My router is a netgear r6250 fwiw.
Try changing channels on the router, you may have interference on the channels it's using
You can use InSSider to check for channel congestion.

I have been using Netgear Wifi Analytics to figure out my wifi dropping. I have no trouble with signal in the house...None of my other wifi devices are having trouble! As a matter of fact, just a little while ago, while testing the wifi on the tablet, the signal dropped. I pressed the home button then the whole tablet froze again. Instead of hard rebooting it, I decided to leave it alone to try to get it to unfreeze on its own. It did after about a minute...BUT the area near the volume and power buttons are was pretty warm/hot. The battery also lost nearly 8% in that time as well!
Does this particular one I have just simply have a bad wifi switch/modem/antenna?
I have the same issue. SM-T810 keeps dropping wifi connection to my netgear r7000. Both 2g and 5g. None of my other devices have the issue. Seems to occur a lot with chrome or anything else that saturates the wifi link.
I'd suggest getting the tablet replaced. I've disabled the 2.4GHz mode on two of my routers (ASUS AC66U and ASUS TM-AC1900) and my Tab S2 never had any troubles with 5GHz on these routers.
Anyway, no matter what obscure configuration your router might have, it shouldn't cause the whole device to freeze. Unless Samsung seriously screwed something up, even if the wifi driver crashed (in the worst case), the worst that would happen is that Android won't let you turn on the wifi.
I replaced mine yesterday and the new one is just fine!
I called the Samsung help line, described the symptoms and they said it sounded like a hardware fault rather than a software issue - took my reference number back to place of purchase and swapped it over for a new one. The new one has had zero issues, has not disconnected from wireless once or frozen and even just general browsing seems smoother - the first one definitely had some issue with the wifi bit.
This without even rebooting the R7000 router between the last bout of freezing and disconnections with the old tablet this morning and then starting to download all my apps and settings and wireless sync of 2 gig of data for the new tablet without a single hiccup two hours later. So the router or signal are not the issue.

Same problem started to happen recently with my phone but only with 5GHz WiFi.
Getting the same problem with 5ghz as well, have to shut it off and then reconnect to the router. Their networking coding is a disgrace, tons of complaints about it all over the place and Samsung does nothing.... I can't return my device but if you're still within the period of being able to, I would if I were you. I absolutely hate this device and all its problems.
I"m having a similar issue. First I noticed that LTE would stop working until I rebooted. Then the wifi would glitch up the same way. I'm not sure if it's the switch from one to the other, or what the deal is. The worst part is it's not repeatable. It just seems to do it randomly.
I have encountered the same problem with wifi dropping. I went to wifi setting and forget network and reboot. Punch the password back. Its working fine now. By the way im using the latest s10+ firmware rooted
Hi guys,
I was faced to the same issue since I bought my S10e. DO not mind the solutions proposed on generic sites (thecellguide.com, thedroidguy.com), they're garbage, totally irrelevant (reboot your phone, erase your cache blabla).
I've tried several hypothesis to troubleshoot this issue (very inconsistent wifi connection with my TPLink 4G routeur MR600, disconnecting every minute or so). In fact, tens...
And the final word seems to be, as observed by other users: 5GHz. After disabeling the option on my routeur (switching all traffic to 2,4GHz) everything is fine. For now.
Good luck
Chris (Fr)
I've also had this issue on the S10E where the wifi would be connected but no internet. After a few minutes it would no longer see the wifi. 5ghz of course. 2.4 no problem. I noticed this happened right after login to Samsung account. Now that I'm logged out Samsung account wifi is all good. I'm on the oneui 2 Jan sec update.
I have the same problem with my girlfriend's Samsung S10, it keeps disconnecting from 5GHz. Just now I switched her to 2.4GHz to see if it solves the problem. All our other devices (HTC One M9, 2x laptops, raspbbery pi 3, chromecast, google home) have no problem with the WiFi on either band.
Samsung really has a problem with it's network code, I also had a problem at work with Cisco APs when an Apple device and the Samsung S10 where on the same network it would bring the whole network down. It was some multicast bug where the Apple would announce itself as the gateway only when an S10 was present.
It's happened to me but never until after the last update. I noticed yesterday I was connected with no internet.
