6.0.1 or 5.1.1? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I'm still using the stock 4.3 ROM currently but it is sooo slow and laggy so I want to upgrade to a custom ROM. I'm looking for a fast and stable ROM and don't care that much about customization. Should I go for a 6.0.1 ROM or a 5.1.1 ROM? Is 5.1.1 more stable?
I looked through some ROMs from Lollipop Hub and came to the conclusion that Candy5 seems to be one of the fastest ROMs. It is supposed to be combined with the Tangerine Kernel, but that is discontinued. Can I use the Helium Kernel instead?
Since Candy5 was not updated in some time, but Sabermod was, should I rather take Sabermod? And if so, should I use the included kernel or take another one?
Most of the ROMs from Marshmallow Hub have been updated in the last couple of days. Does this mean that I have to (or at least should) update my ROM, if I chose on from here, every couple of days/weeks as well? I would prefer something that I install once and then I'm good for a while .
So, what I am basically asking is: Should I go for a Marshmallow or a Lollipop ROM (and why) and which one is the most stable and has the best performance (and with which kernel should I combine it)? For Lollipop: Candy5 or Sabermod? For Marshmallow: CM13 or Sabermod or Temasek? Or something completely different?
edit: Please don't read this as "what is best ROM, I am too lazy to test stuff myself"
I mostly need help deciding between Marshmallow and Lollipop, and, if Lollipop is "better", as in more stable/faster, then I need to know if Candy5 is a good option and which kernel to take with it (since the last update was in December, I have no idea if it is outdated or something and the reviews in the Lollipop hub are from October...^^).

M using MM [ latest build ] with PurePerformance X and the Rom performance is flawless. I love CM13. Previously , I was in stock Rom , then switched to Xperia SP stock Slim rom , then Cm11 and now finally CM13. SP looks great with CM13.

Ok sound good . I read on some CM13 ROMs that the camera was not working and that the problem is within CM13 and not the ROMs issue... is this still the case? Because some CM13 ROMs do NOT have this written in their bug section Oo

Nope..As per my experience everythings working fine with CM13 in Xperia SP.Camera too works well.Plus , flashing extra zips make the SP with CM 13 smooth and flawless .

I have tried Lollipop and Marshmallow and they are both terrible. Its a bad phone with bad specs and it will never be good.

Haha thanks for your awesome contribution
Unfortunately, I own this phone and will not buy a new one just because you don't like it.
To me, it's a decent phone and with a fitting ROM I'm pretty sure that I will be quite content with it.

Performance and stability depends on the rom, not the version itself. Most of the lp and mm roms are "almost" bugfree right now. So, try whatever you like. I couldn't see much difference between them but I loved marshmallow more.
Also in my humble opinion, carbon lp gives better performance compared to the candy5. Especially when combined with helium.

I used CM 12.1 But i think it was a little buggy. Cm 13 is great smooth, no bugs whatsoever. I also recommend XOSP. Its fast too and it looks like a proper Xperia device

I'm running CM13 Sabermod with stock kernel and it runs smoothly and I have not noticed any bugs yet. It's a bit laggy playing Pokemon GO (which was the main reason for my upgrade from 4.3 lol), but I'm relatively sure that its because of the "outdated" hardware, which no ROM can fix.
So thank you to everybody that actually contributed something to this thread

[Q] Should i switch ROM?

I want to know your opinion, which one is a better(generally) option for a daily driver ROM on our phones based on today's options?
1- Stock/Stock based ROMs
2- Aftermarket ROMs (Like CM,Carbon ...)
It depends...CM Based are for Android Purists who don't like other designs but prefer raw and clean android
Hoever I prefer Nice UI so I go with stock based such as Existenz and the like

The stock roms is not bad, but in my opinion i'd prefer on custom rom because it has a lot of customization, but of course use it at your own risk because ur warranty will void if use custom roms. right now im using VanirAOSP in my XSP. its CM based running on kitkat 4.44 and can be used daily, im not a pro yet and i think u must read and learn and then compare them (the stock vs Custom). good luck ^.^

Vanir is much smoother than stock roms.
You dont invalidate your warranty unless you unlock bootloader (and even then keep a backup and noone will ever know).
Try out the LBL ROMs such as paranoid nexus or CM11 if you dont want to unlock the bootloader. They run really smoothly and with the right setup can be just as good as stock for power consumption (obviously non stock has no stamina mode) and personally I think better for features and performance.
You can also find most Sony apps on XDA to install should you want those (I use Sony Album, movies and Smart Connect).

There is a problem with cm11 roms - sound and mics seems to be very low... So may be 4.1 or 4.3 roms.

So in terms of actual performance stock/stock based ROM's do better?
Why use CM11 roms? They are buggy and laggy. Just use CM10.2, it's a lot faster than stock roms and all the features are working except for FM radio, but you can use SpiritFM.
Try the custom roms and if you like them more than stock use one of them. Many people prefer them but i like more sony's stock rom, i don't have any performance issue on it and i love sony ui.

I don't mean stock 4.3. Try CyanogenMod 10.2. It is Android 4.3 as well. No slowdowns for me.
Here is a link to it.
Xperia SP = HuaShan
i used vanir in a few weeks, it run smooth, until i try playing HD games like MC4, and the screen is only black with the hud, no cutscene.
now i use beanstalk rom. it run smooth and i can play MC4 with no lag at all, so i guess vanir is not that perfect too,
i wanna try CM11 but the review tells that cm 11 is still buggy (am I right ?).
anyone in here try that out?

Need a trully stable rom. Any idea?

Hi. Im trying many roms on our n7000 but ewery time i find any bugs and FC. Thats why I wana ask u guys about trully stable rom. Now im using miui veganence. Before that i have dirty unicorns and carbon rom or sweet rom. Even cm 11. All of this is slow for me and have small free ram like 160 - 80 mb.
I hope u can help me try some faster roms. Maybe something older?
PS sorry for my eng

You can try CM 10.1.3 or CM 9 if you want a Custom Rom.
For a Stock Rom I can suggest AryaROM v8 with some nice new Raw v1 Custom cernel from GeeckoDev

what do you think about CarbonRom? i just flashed it but got some errors, but i want to figure it out cause i think this ROM is pretty light and smooth.. (from the review i read)
It's a hit and miss actually IMO. I found CarbonROM to be pretty stable for me. You just have to try i guess, because finding a "truly, perfectly stable" ROM is impossible. Every ROM has its ups and downs, so does with the bugs and stability. Choose which ROM suits you best, and try them for some time. If it crashes/you suddenly hate it etc. then find another ROM or maybe another version of the former ROM. Trust me, It's a bit of pain in the arse at first but it's worth it in the end.
ICS is old and it's not smooth like newer versions like jb and kitkat.
CM10.1 is smooth but drains battery fast.
CM11 is the best but it's buggy (fc, random reboots...etc)
so my advice is to stick to jb 4.1.2 (stock or custom) until we get a stable lollipop (hope this will happen soon)

What makes you believe there will ever be a stable lollipop for the Note?
So much time has passed since the release of KK and AFAIK there is still no stable KK ROM for this device.

because bauner's CM12 even it is still in alpha stage, there is no overheating, graphic glitch, force-close (well, there is few but due to some apps that didn't get updated to fully support android L) and random reboots, and because Lollipop is a "true" update from Google since 2011, so don't expect that Google was playing all these years and only changed the UI and added some fonts there is about 5000 change/update in the SDK so android lollipop for sure will support even low end phones with 512MB of ram and new apps will have a ton of features.
I know that the Exynos motherboard for the SII and N7000 is a real Crap from Samsung but at least those issues related to it, if not fixed they will at least be reduced like the overheat issue still persist but not as bad as in KK.
Or maybe it's Google+Samsung fault which made it impossible to have stable kk for our device

[Q] Stable Kitkat vs Unstable Lollipop

Hello there,
I recently moved to cyanogenmod 11 on my xperia ZR, and found it extremely good and stable.
Although we still dont have a stable CM12 for ZR, but ported ones are available, and giving in for the love for lollipop, i did try them too, but there are quite a few bugs.
So, Just wanted to ask, what everyone of you prefers,
A stable CM11 or a buggy but newer CM12.

I am too using that build, and i second ur opinion, CM12 does give a fresh look to the device.
stable cm12 will come soon
I bought this ZR a year or so ago and the phone has been on non-stock ROM's ever since day 1 inc a unlocked boot-loader since the same time. I've tried every ROM posted in the ZR section from the Xperienz onwards inc the CM11..
The CM11 nightlies were also "unstable" depending on the nightly chosen and I often had to flash back to a stable CM11 because of bugs in that particular CM11 nightly.
All the CM builds are constantly evolving and it's kind of the charm about flashing a new CM11 or 12 because we never quite know what we're going to get.
I used to be involved in the Nokia scene, modding etc, for the last few years and i like messing around, trying new things on the phone and im currently on the CM12 02-02-2015 Validus port (have been since it was ported by uncomment because it is stable with good features) and there are some amazing work being done by xenius9, Deadroza, uncomment and others giving us ZR users a choice..
The nice thing about CM12 is the interface but the development within CM12 is awesome and I for one would take a dirty, "unstable" CM12 anytime over a stable anything, inc stock ROM..
Hi
I have the same feeling about new LP ROMs...
We have only some ported LP ROMs with bugs. And the KK ROM are all discontinued.
I tried a LP ROM (don't remember which one) and finally I'm back to KK. The design of LP is very refreshing and it's a great sensation when your ZR seems to have reborn.
There is some problems that bother me like :
- The notification LED don't works in silent mode. On Z, the LED still work when we disable the vibrator.
- The data switch is crappy. We have to press a least 3 times to activate or desactivate the data instead of just 1 time on quick settings of KK. It's the same problem for localisation switch. On KK we can choose the localisation mode quickly by pressing the same button again.
- The bluetooth audio. It works great but after some connections the sound is not play in the peripheral. We have to restart the phone to have a fonctional bluetooth back.
Due to this little but boring things I'm on a MokeeKK ROM since the begin of febuary...
Do you know if some of this things are solved? I don't have the courage to try a LP ROM just to find out if there is some evolutions. And if there is some evolutions, which ROM did you advise me? CM12, CM12.1, Resurrection Remix?
Thanks in advance

If I ask people about this things it's because it's easy for LP users to check it and tell me if there is an evolution since january LP builds.
It's easy to check the problem of LED and tell me if there is and evolution concerning the switches of data and localisation.
I know that I can make a full backup of my KK ROM but I'm busy.

LOST in a sea of roms

Hi there.
I been spending several hours reading user's opinions about several roms for the xsp.
I saw plenty of unofficial roms based on cyanogenmod official roms. And the question that pops into my mind it's.
Why so many mods? People doesn't like the official releases?
Also I been reading that 5.1 roms are laggy, and in a custom rom i'm looking for stability and performance.
Maybe I should go for and official cyanogenmod 11 rom?
Maybe for a stock based rom?
What do you think?
Hello.
Yes, there is a lot of rom for SP. But just a few work as it supposed to.
Lollipop it is in his nightly stage, though is very stable and the most recent apps, you will be able to use.
There is too a recent patch for security, we should take in consideration, Im using myself as a daily driver without problems, nevertheless still have some minor bugs, but nothing that cant make you wish to throw your SP on wall
If you want to test and see how looks like, I would recommend Sabermod Unofficial Or CM 12.1 Official Nightly
cm12.1+ addons imo cuz it's my second full month on it and it never failed me ....no problems for me and great performance

battery is good too yep
Go for CyanogenMod 12.1 nightlies with addons...Its Best for lollipop based ROMs.
You can try unofficial CM13 also if you can use the phone without camera. Battery life and performance of CM13 is far better than cm 12.1.
To be honest, is a matter of usage and preference. For me it was working fine but my phone got way too hot for my taste, but the deal breaker was that no matter what lolipop ROM I used facebook HD playback was choppy as hell. I know that it sounds silly but that's something that I need. None of these issues exist on stock, of course (C5306 - 1.205)
I think the Sabermod unofficial takes the lead on cm12.1 ... Great battery and butter smooth. I think it' s the for performance and battery !
I use official CM11 slimmed by me, without gapps, disabled LogCat, little modified build.prop + WilliamsPLUS and I'm really happy ; p
which 5.1 rom has fewer lag and more batterylife?
@beodo
A sea of roms but many of them are discontinued or not updated, so first check that one.
As fellow members said CyanogenMod 12.1 Unofficial SaberMod with add ons is the best right now for me as well, very fast, really fluid, stable and good battery life, in is some parts is even better than the latest official stock rom.
I m using this rom for over a month and i love it.
If you need even better battery life you could use Helium kernel (just dirty flash at recovery) and enable conservative governor, if you would like to take it further you can also install xposed framework which unlocks you much more features like power saving better experience, extra customization and more.
All of the above are continuously updated and supported by our great developers too :good:

All of the above are continuously updated and supported by our great developers too :good:

Best Stable ROM

Dear All,
I'm just wondering what is the best stable updatable ROM for Sony Xperia Z1?. Also, if there is Stable Kernel with suggested ROM will be great.

There is a rom in the making which is exactly that. Even though it is still in beta right now, it is silky smooth. It might hit XDA sooner or later, so keep an eye out for it on the development sections.

Do you prefer stock based (better camera and stability)? AOSP (5.1) based (fast and responsive, average camera and fewer bugs than 6.0 ROMs)?

In fact I don't care what the ROM based from [emoji1] .. At the end, am just looking for something works fine with NO much issues and with much stabilities than others, of course with battery performance consideration as well.
Could you please provide me with the URL.

[Rom] Updated July 8 AOSP Jaguar LP 5.1.1 OFFICIAL-HYPERTOOL 5.X
Always updated, really stable, fast, secure and packed with features.
But you need an unlocked bootloader (if you have not unlocked yet please remember to backup your DRM keys).

Thanks buddy, I'll look into this ROM. Do you think that I need to look for custom Kernel to work with this ROM or no need.
I can suggest the combination from my signature. It is very stable. Another very stable and good ROM is DStrikerZ1.
