I got a Note 5 (locked to a local provider). After two weeks of usage, I am experiencing a few issues. These are:
- The voice quality (during calls only) at my end is not great. Its kind of heavy as if the speaker is blocked with something. Note: The audio quality when playing songs is satisfactory.
- On some occasions when I make a call, the call goes through but the person at the other end wont hear me but I can hear him. I have to disconnect and dial back.
- Camera laggy. I have clicked around 500 pictures in about 2 weeks.
I am a bit confused that it is a provider related issue or a device issue. It will be great if forum members can provide me some pointers and help me fix these issues.
Note: The device is with Telus (in Canada) running android 5.1.1

This could be a hardware, software issue. Without checking we cannot tell. Hopefully it's either software or the "banswitching" issue. If it is a new thing that has just started then a hard reset may solve the problem.
Many folks with newer phones in areas where different available phone bands are present, report dropped calls as the phone seeks to change to the strongest signal.
See this thread (one of many) that mentions the problem) also note the Bandswitch application that lets you fix the phone to one band to avoid the problem:

I presume you've tried turning off Microphone AGC (Automatic Gain Control) if it was enabled and you're using the speakerphone?
Hi all,
Recently bought a Note 2.
Far better than the old Defy, even overclocked, CMised, MUIUsed etc.
Big phone.
Don't want to get it out of my pocket at each call.
Don' want to answer with a standard BT earset, withour knowing who's calling.
So I needed an earset that knows and display caller names.
There is a protocol for that : PBAP (Phone Book Access Protocol).
You will find very little earset with both display AND PBAP (and actually, very few with any of these two)
The Nokia BH-902 is one.
And it can show caller names. YEAH !
Big phone, big earset. Bulky (compared to my old samsung one), but even without the ugly earloop, it's ok, stays in place if you are going steadily.
It's an old model from about 2006.
Bug known so far :
- first call was OK (not answered), then it freezes at second call, and after reset, freezes when getting last call logs.
Found eventually that the earset is not compatible with apostrophas ('). point : my own name is "d'Illiers"
I discard apostrophas from my frequent caller, and it's OK now.
- In case of freeze, reset is only available when charging (don't ask) => not easy when on the move
I could not find any clear information on nokia bh-902 before.
BTW, I confirmed that according to its doc, Prada LG HBM-510 can display phone number, but not caller names.
I was unable to find any recent earset with the same functionnality, although I think it would be definitly a good thing with these bigger and bigger phone. Just imagine that you could have a Nexus 7 to play with + such a small earset just to answer calls...
Hope that will help.
I am almost certain that there is an option for the phone to speak in your ear who's calling. I think you can even record the names yourself.
Isn't that good for you?
@cyber.bg
I won't keep the earset always on my ear, even when no call in progress.
When the phone is ringing, I don't want the name of the caller to be spoken loudly by my phone to everybody around
Hello there XDA members!
I've recently received brand new Z3 Compact from warranty. Previous one died underwater
It's on the newest firmware currently avaible - 23.0.1.A.5.77.
Issue I'm experiencing is if I enable noise-cancelling feature in settings my voice is almost impossible to understand.
Tried service tests for 2md mic and the voice is recorded stable yet quite in low frequencies - bassline like
If anyone had similiar issues?
Please check do you have the option enabled since this FW disables it on default so you might not had chance to check it out.
Cheers!
I just verified and the noise suppression is working as expected on my device.
Damn, just saw this after my post - as I was searching for suppression but spelling it wrong!
My wife's phone is having this issue, but only since the lollipop upgrade. She never had any issues, she upgraded and suddenly sound is quiet and in and out (digital break up).
I turned off noise suppression on her phone, and suddenly I can hear.
I'm trying to determine how widespread this issue is - the problem is AOSP and CM ROM's on a variety of phones are unable to make Emergency calls - the call hangs with a slow flash 'Dialling' and if you try to hang up it gives a slow flashing 'Hanging Up' - the only way to get the phone back is to restart the phone.
This is across many countries so far.
There is a logged Emergency call issue - at CYAN-6622 - issue has been upgraded to major and apparently people can vote on it so if you're concerned that you don't have a phone that can be used to save your (or others) life in an emergency, please vote there.
Also apparently the issue goes back to at least CM10 and possibly CM7 days and it is on multiple phones, not just Note 3's.
If the issue is so widespread it would almost have to be in the base from Google. So maybe if it also happens (or doesn't happen) on a Nexus we can get Google to fix things.
For Americans concerned about dialling 911 you can call your local station and ask to make a test call, then when you do you can tell 911 you have the Despatch permission for a test call - so no fines.
Any assistance here will be appreciated... thanks
Hello . I am long time follower of your forums but now i decide to make an account cause I got some troubles with my Note 5 .
I have a Note 5 model n920-c (Arab Emirates) but I live in Romania .My problem is that from time to time when I make or receive a call, the in-call sound from my ear-speaker is high-pitched almost screetching(but still manageable and understandable) ....
If I put the call on speaker the sound is normal...
This is happening to me only 2-3 times a day and it seems to happen only with calls made in my network(ORANGE RO)...In every other calls(whatsapp , facebook , skype) the ear-speaker sound levels are just normal...
Just to mention I also fave HD voice active for my network calls...
Its is a network provider issues ?Is it a hardware issues?Did some of you experienced such thing on your unit?
Happy to be a part of your forum from now on ! Looking forward for answers
Not even a tought? :crying:
Same problem here. Also n920c and also on orange ro. Problem apear when i call on orange and vodafone. And another problem today: while on lte i have full signal, i can call without problems but when someone tries to call me enter the voicemail. Switching to 3g solves the problem. Switching back to lte the problem reapears. Some ideas anyone? Thanks
