When I am using voice commands on Android Auto, the software doesn't stick to one language. Sometimes, it will answer me in Dutch and expect me to use dutch voice commands and two minutes later it will answer me in english and expect me to use english voice commands.
Since I am living in Belgium, I had to sideload Android Auto since it is not officially available here. I guess that is probably the reason why I have the following problem but I justed wanted to ask for feedback and maybe some tips on how to solve the issue.
Any others having the same experience here? And is there anything I can do about it? Just wanted to hear about other people using Android Auto in non-officially supported countries.

I have the same issue in Belgium and speaking French. I managed to make it more usable by changing the rom language to French, now AA answers to me mostly in French too.

Hey there,
I haven't got my Samsung i897 Captivate yet (I live in the Netherlands and bought 1 via eBay from the USA) , but I'm already looking things up like how to get froyo 2.2 and disabling AT&T etc.
I know the Dutch(Nederlands) language isn't available as OS language , but I was wondering if I can still install this via the ANDROID Market or with a tweak? I know the Galaxy i9000 and the Galaxy i9010 both have the Dutch language as operating system...
Thanks in advantage!
I also need to add support for my language to a Captivate I bought in the US, but I'm not sure how. I'm fine with menus in english, what I really need is the voice recognition and swype in my language. I'm aware there is a Samsung Galaxy S model designed for my country and it has these features, but I have no idea how or where to get them to my Cappy.
What country are you from if I may ask? Some keybpard lamguafes can be downloaded from the Android Market.
Well there's maybe some hope, the i9010 Armani fw has more languages and they're currently porting it to the captivate...
I'm from Brazil (brazilian portuguese), so the actual qwerty keyboard layout is not a problem for me (though I'll need a way to write ç à á ã é ó ô etc). As long as I'm aware, the keyboard layout is not a problem for Dutch too. Are you looking to have the menus translated, or are your main concerns swype and voice search?
I haven't got problems with anything. I understand everything in English, but I'm Dutch and I want my phone in Dutch. I want the full device in Dutch(inc. swype, menus voice etc.), but the first priority to me is the menus.
So, anyone aware how to put more languages on Android? I've searched Android Market and haven't found any language pack.

Really, I just searched "language pack" (without quotes) and found:
Russian
Swiss
Arabic
Hebrew
etc.....
Edit: I they are for keyboards, my bad.
I also live in the netherlands! Im running perception 10 now and its in dutch!! My kernel is firebird 2 and my modem is kp1 from the i9000. The standard samsung keypad has dutch preinstalled and you can get swype from other site ;3 hope this helps!

@Snaai
Thank you.
What carrier do you have? I'm planning to get Vodafone NL. Is your 3g internet working here?
Hmm Im getting the Froyo from the briefmobile website for my captivate I think(seems most stable and swift)
morelocale 2 is a good app for changing os language. Japanese is working nicely on my cappy, but not everything is translated
Im using it with vodafone. I even get hspa upload speeds!! Although when you flashed the rom you'll have to set band selection on automatic (sgstools --> secret codes --> band selection).
Perception with the firebird 2 kernel features voodoo sound, a really nice and must have app.
Kp1 modem works amazing here!! Good reception and without the simcard problem. Will post more info..

Here I am again!
The at&t captivate does have the bands for vodafone.
The modem Kp1 is really fast, and uses less battery.
For the kernel you could choose firebird 2. It's fast and supports voodoo lagfix and sound (and possibly color and some other improvements too). You will have to unlock the phone for it to read your vodafone simcard. (write your imei and unlock nummer down and protect it with your life it could be usefull in the future, and if you flash the leaked rom than Perception it will be harder to unlock your phone).
And really.. Use a lagfix! It makes the phone so incredibly fast.
I used one click lagfix and voodoo lagfix and must say that voodoo really tends to amaze me!
The thing you should check before flashing roms is if you have the 3 button recovery menu and you must check your product number (mine is 1006).
Oh and the last thing I got to say, use a gps fix. The gps is terrible at first but after some tweaking it'll work great!

Swype_1.60.36.8214_WVGA.apk
That's the swype version I'm using. I'm also Dutch and brought a captivate here and this swype version with many languages (including Dutch) is working like a charm.

Nederlanders, verenig u !
Thanks in advantage
Can't send you private message four some reason... You probably turned it off in the settings. Anyway I haven't flashed a rom yet, most stuff I've done is pretty basic.
I actually have a question, I need a shortcut to switch between swype in dutch and english, anyone have any ideas?

There is a letter in the up legt side of the keyboard that has two initials. EN or NL or something.
Long press that key and tada! A selection menu pops up.

Does it change swype and voice search languages?
For speach language go to settings-->speach input and output-->settings speach recognition-->language. From here on choose your prefered language.

Sorry, I can't find option "speech input and output" on my "settings" menu. Closest match I could find was text-to-speech, but this is related to the way the phone generates voice from text, not the opposite (afaik). Can you please provide more detail?
Hi Guys
I want to buy a galaxy note but before I do, I would like, if someone here could kindly tell me, if i buy the phone in Spain (I live here) will I be able to change the OS etc to the English Language (as I would prefer to use it in my native tongue)
thanks in advance
Ian
Since I can change my note's system language to Espanol here in Canada so I do believe that you can do the samething in Spain as well.

Yes you can. I got mine from Amazon.es, living in Madrid, and it came from Germany (so it was in German). As soon as you turn it on it asks you what language you want to put the phone in (default being German, but you just change language --> Spanish --> Done!). It's that easy.
Thanks guys
I like easy!
Ok just off to look at prices on the internet and order, it will make a well overdue upgrade to my HTC touch HD.
and will, thank goodness, stop my thoughts on buying a small tablet since I replaced my 15 inch laptop with the new 18.4 inch one.
But still need my HD with me until TomTom release their App for Android.
thanks
Ian
Hello all,
I want to buy the MotoX too. Its an amazing device.
Can anybody tell me if the MotoX have german system language too?
The HTC First (AT&T) i bought a Year ago had german settings.
thanks for info
EDIT: The reason why i am asking is some sellers on eB*y told me that the MotoX does not have the german language settings.
BUDNI
no german, just four languages inside

I thought that language packs are baked into the system. I have a German razr HD but prefer the english system settings over the German ones. I find the German expressions for some of the settings rather confusing. I'd be more concerned about the phone working properly on our phone bands...
I asked already seven sellers on eB*y for German Language Settings.
Four sellers answered "No", two sellers answered "Yes", one did not know for 100%.
So i am a bit confused if German Settings would work or not...
I am on T-Mobile. Should be work in Germany with Moto X.
Thanks

Guten tag,
I just checked it for you...indeed there are only 4 languages coming with the phone, English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. I am sure if you can install German package on it. But most apps today have German. Viel Glück!
Thanks for checking!
I found some apps (more local and set local) to change language to German - if it will be works on Moto X.
In case English will be also ok for me.
Most .apks i need i could install by myself...

From the point that the Moto X is currently only available in the americas, it makes sense that onle the 4 mentioned langauges are on the phone. On the other side, Android usually comes with all languages baked in (I have a ton of languages in my German 4.1.2). Considering that language packs are universal of an Android release, it should at least be possible to extract German from an interneational 4.2 rom and some how add it to the Moto Xs rom.
I'd love to check out the Moto X myself, but I already have a 4.7 inch razr HD with my self made Tasker skip setup. Actually I consider getting something bigger. i toyed around with a 6.2 inch Huawei Mate at a local store and currently I think it's too big. So the Galaxy Note 3 with a 5.5 inch screen could hit my sweet spot. i just have to wait until I can check it out locally.
But 1.5 years ago I thought that anything bigger than 4 inch was too big...
Sorry from drifting away from the topic...
Roms from brazil have a 'Motorola TTS' present. and the voice is amazing ( its the same voice used in google translator ) and without it.. using Touchless commands in portguese is a pain?!

Hey man, I'm from Brazil too, and I'm with the same "issue". I don't have the skills to see if porting the portuguese TTS is possible, so I just downloaded and used the one from SVOX on Google Play. But I really miss the original one, and though it's worth the firmware change and the possibility that Google will soon integrated portuguese to the default TTS (they are talking about a hundred new comands in portuguese), I still support the cause. Can anybody check on this?
Not sure if you still want it

I found a way and managed to make it work on my Moto X. I started searching for the diferences between US and BR firmwares. Found an APK named NuanceTTS (it appears as Motorola TTS on Language-> Text-to-Speech), but it's really a TTS engine made by Nuance, a Hungarian company. So I started looking for the real APK and found a topic on Mobilism Forum abour Vocalizer. You can Google it (I'm not allowed to post links yet)
Please read the entire topic. If you install Vocalizer Expressive and Luciana's Premium High voice, you'll see it's EXACTLY the same voice/engine found on the BR Moto X.
Nice, I will look for it
Edit: Wow. it works
thanks for the tip!

I imported a US Home and I am interested in changing it into a UK Home. I am assuming the hardware is the same....
Thanks in advance.
Yeah hardware is the same.
It's with the Google account you going to use.
I am even using the Google home in India.
So no issues with the import.
Same, using a US one in the Netherlands. While I do prefer British over American English, I did choose to set mine to American as the UK voice doesn't use Wavenet for its text to speech yet, so it sounds more robotic.

Flash? XD
You can just change the language in the settings, so when Dutch arrives you can of course just change the language of the Google home to Dutch.
Resurrecting this oldish thread, got both my Home and mini speakers from the US and was thrilled when it finally was released officially here in Sweden and tried to switch over to swedish from US English without much luck.
Swedish doesn't even show up as an option yet in language settings in the Google home app so hopefully it's just not fully implemented and I even reached out to Google for some clarification without much luck (surprise)
So I'm not fully convinced it's just enough to switch language due to the fact it says specifically that the country code on the devices firmware is set to US...
Might need to order a "swedish" mini to check firmware info to compare releases.
