Fast Charging Cables

I wanted to start a thread directly related to cables that are confirmed "charging rapidly." There are a handful of posts around here that talk about usb A to C but I had a hard time finding cables that actually brought the message up on my phone. Lastly before I start the list I wanted to mention that I understand the Nexus 5X I usb 2.0 only but just due to a future proofing mentality I prefer 3.0 cables.
I will update this thread accordingly as more people post results of cables that do support fast charging. During the testing make sure you are using a charger that supports high amperage output. I am using the following charger that supports 3.0 amp output per port.

I can confirm the techmatte cable is showing fast charging. I cannot confirm if the cable is actually to spec.

I totally understand. I have been reading all of the reviews that he has been posting. I will update the OP with approved cables later today if possible.

FWIW, the Juiced Systems cable shows 'Charging Rapidly' for me...

iOrange-E cable shows rapid charge for me. Cost of cable has gone way up though though since I picked up mine. Probably not worth it.

Interesting... I know for sure this cable did not show rapid charging on (2) Nexus 5X's that I tried it on. I was using a 3A charger. Are you sure it is the same one that is posted in the OP?

The charger is an iClever charger, don't have any details on it...

I have a Pecham branded A to C cable bought from Amazon for £6.59 so approx $10. Its well made, braided with metal housings for the connectors. Charging with this one shows Charging rapidly on the lockscreen.
I also have an A to C cable direct from the Google store £10 ($15) Also good quality but slimmer and much more flexible than the Pecham.
I only see Charging on the lockscreen using this one.
Despite the differences the Ampere app indicates a charge rate of Approx 1700mAH for both cables!
For these tests I used an Anker Powercore 20100 battery pack and an Anker 40W 5 port mains charger. charge rates were identical.

It is interesting that you were able to get this cable to register as charging rapidly. It is the exact same cable that I bought and returned and with a 3A charger it did not register as charging rapidly on my phone. For right now I will leave this cable in the category that it is in until further confirmation. I wonder if it is a charger specific thing?

I have added the Pecham cable to the OP. Thanks for the confirmation. I am getting the Google OEM cable A - C tomorrow. I will see if I can reproduce the results that you got with the OEM cable.

Up until tonight I didn't realize that charging rapidly does not show every time. I will dig into this further this week. I will also be adding the official OEM A to C cable from Google to the list.

I'm confused, I thought USB A to C can only suppose 2.4A max
You're using a charging brick that uses 3A output, does that mean .6A does not get used?

Ironically "fast charging cables" are just out-of-specification cables, so if you want them just pay $1 for cables on eBay.

The OEM Google cable display's fast charging and that is not out of spec. Really the purpose of this thread is to find cables that are actually following the USB spec and allowing the message "charging rapidly" to display on your phone. I understand that the max a cable that is to spec. will put out is 2.4A.

The OEM Google cable (USB-A to USB-C) does not fast charge when you plug it into a non-fast charging compatible source (such as a PC's USB ports).
Any USB-C cable should be capable of fast charging when plugged into an adapter rated for 3A current draw.
Cables that are not to spec will allow the phone to "charge rapidly" when it should not be charging rapidly.

I agree with that, but there are certain cables that still follow the A -> C spec and allow "charging rapidly" when paired with the proper charger. I know they won't be capable of the full 2.8A - 3.0A but they can allow a max of 2.4A, and that's something that is ok with me.

Anker 5-Port USB C Charger

Dies anyone use the Anker 5-Port USB C as a charger for their phone? Is it capable of charging rapidly? As fast as the original LG charger?

I actually have one of these and the PowerCore+ 20100 USB-C, which I highly recommend. I feel like the 5-port charger charges the phone a few minutes slower than the LG, but the rapid charge still works. If you need a battery pack the PowerCore+ can charge my phone at least 5 times on one charge. I charged my Nexus and 2 iPhones the other day and it only used 30% of the battery.
I use the 5 port charger to charge my phone, my Nook HD+, my 3DS, Microsoft Band, and my battery pack, and it still does rapid charge.

I finally bought the Anker 5 Port USB C charger and I can definitely recommend this one as it charges my 5X at almost the same speed as the LG charger. Plus,I can charge my other usb devices simultaneosly

I don't have the version with the C port, but I do have a couple of the Anker 5-port chargers. Using a in-spec USB C to A cable, I get 2.35 amps out of the 5-port charger hooked to my 5X. The OEM charger is rated 3.0 amps, but I don't have a tester for USB C. I would assume it is close to that 3.0 rating. Either way the Anker is pretty close so charge time will only be slightly longer.
I have some more test results in my Slow charger thread.
Overall I'd say you can't go wrong with Anker products. I've now used their chargers, hubs, and card reader. All their products have been quality pieces.

Anker is great.However I do not need a charger like that as all my devices will be scattered on the desktop.I bought a great 4-port USB Charging Station from "ipely" on Amazon. .My honey 6P,iPad3,Kindle,bluetooth headphone could be charged at the same time and everything organized.That is great I think.

How small? I have yet to find a battery bank that has type-c that's less than 20,000 mAh. Then at 5,000 mAh and below, I haven't found one that does 2.4 A. Most are 1.0A and a few are 2.0A. I have an Anker 10,050 mAh with a type-a to type-c 1 foot cable. It does 2.4A and is advertised at the smallest 10,000 mAh battery pack.

You can use any power bank you like.
You just need the appropriate cable and or adapter.
There are many under 5000mah to choose from

I got myself one of the cylinder-like powerbanks from anker. They are micro-usb, but Anker sells a Micro USB to USB-C plug (no cable, just a small convertor). Works like a charm. Enough to charge the phone at least once.

Just keep them together with the cable in the small pouch Anker gives with all their products. Works like a charm.
I also have a big 15000mah one for when I expect to be without an outlet for a few days. But that's a bit heavy to carry around 24/7

Xiaomi Mi Pro 10'400 mAh is pretty good. Using it for few days with Anker type-c cable, works fine.

Need a charger capable of rapid charging

Just bought a Nexus 5x off Swappa and it didn't come with the original LG charger, just a USB C to A cable. Are there any 3rd party charging blocks and cables that work well and provide rapid charging for the 5x? I've looked at a lot on Amazon and Ebay and there don't seem to be any that work as well.

Also, can anyone tell me if you'll get faster charging (like Type C to Type C) if you use a USB 3.0 to Type C cable, or does it matter?

Also Google"Benson Leung". He's put a lot of time into testing a lot of products and can probably save you a lot of headaches. There's a lot of really questionable cables and chargers out there for USB type-c so you want to be careful. It's not like the old micro USB days where anything worked. Bad cables can burn your phone, charger or worse

@adobeman - appreciate the reply. I have seen that spreadsheet but noticed nothing had a review date for this year, 2016. I had hoped something more current that was a sure winner would have been released by now. Maybe not, maybe it's just the SONEic and Choetec so far. There are a ton of the LG OEM cables/chargers on eBay but they all ship from China so are questionable at best, don't know if they're knockoffs or real. Oh well. The problem with the Google cable on the play store is that it's a single piece, the cable isn't removable.
Guess I'll give one of these other two options a shot and go from there. Thanks again!

I have tested LG OEM cable/charge on Nexus 5X, the charger support Quick Charge, it works well with device but it didn't charge as quickly as stock Nexus charger. I remember that it took me about ~1.8 hours to charge from 20% to 100% with LG OEM charger. LG OEM Charger output is 5V/1.8A, 9V/1.8A while stock one is 5V/3A.
If you want to take full advantage of Nexus 5X fast charge, you should choose charger that can output 5V/3A current. You can get more information in this article.

@SuperBoUDS - thanks. I went with this option this morning: SONEic USB Type C rapid charger & this Anker USB C to USB 3.0 for another cable. They should be here Friday and I'll review and confirm how well they work. CUrrently, I only have a legacy USB 2.0 to Type C cable that came with my used phone. It only charges up to about 1400 mA when the batter is really low.

FYI, since the spreadsheet is outdated as of 2016 the best (albeit disorganized) source for USB-C cables/charger/accessories that are compliant is probably benson leungs amazon profile feed:

if you don't want to go with choetech or tronsmart, you can find oem LG chargers and cables on eBay for $15-$20

I have three choetech USB C wall chargers. I've had inconsistent performance with them -- at times the phone does not register it as a rapid charger, and so far one has stopped working completely. The USB cables are from Anker and I haven't faced any problems with them.
You can't go wrong buying an OEM or Google made charger.

After using the SONEic USB C to C charger I purchased above, I can say that I've rarely, if ever, seen it charge faster than 2.15 mA. That with the battery fairly low so I would think it should be charging faster. It does come up as rapidly charging though. It works well enough, just was hoping for more.

I can confirm that the Soneic didn't go above 2A using Ampere app . I tried the Choetech and it went upto 2.5 A once.
Both say charging rapidly. I'll be returning the Soneic
I've seen varying performances with all chargers, none of them seem to sustain the charging rate even if the phone is <10%
Not sure if it's the same behavior with the OEM charger

Samsung charger vs Nexus 5X, need a little help/advice!

Hello guys. I use a standard 5V 2.0A charger at work with the original Samsung micro USB cable, I also have a Xiaomi type-C converter. Most of the times my Nexus 5X says charging rapidly! So my question is, is it safe to use? Can it harm my device? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

It won't hurt it, in fact it'll charge slower. So should create less heat and be better for it. Use ampere to check actual rates. The Nexus 5x c to c charger is rated higher than that. Slower is rarely ever bad, faster can be the issue

No it won't but stock charger is more powerful (2.0 A vs 3.0 A)

I use a Samsung charger with a Type A to type C cable for overnight charging as I don't need it to charge rapidly while I'm sleeping. My cable is certified to comply with the standards though. Don't know if that Xiaomi type-C converter is or needs to be.

As said by @ideaman924, if it says Charging Rapidly, there's problem. Phone thinks it's connected to full-fledged USB Type-C cable which can handle more current than your microUSB cable with converter on the end (3A vs 2A).
AFAIK, it means there's bad/missing resistor in converter and thus it is NOT safe to use. And definitely not safe to charge with all night.
Example: For overnight charging I use Samsung's 5V 1A charger with Anker' a USB A to USB Type-C cable and phone says only Charging. However, when connected to stock Type-C to Type-C charger, it says "Charging Rapidly". That's how it should work.
So, head over to Amazon and buy ONLY Benson Leung certified cable. If you don't know him, Google his name -- he tests USB Type-C cables and made spreadsheet.

Where did you get that Samsung charger from? I had that same issue but it was with a 2.0a Samsung charger that came from Amazon that ended up being a fake, as with almost all the "genuine OEM" chargers sold on eBay/amazon. On a regular tablet it would output just under 2a. (I measured it once something like 1.88 or something IIRC) However, once connected to a co-workers 5X though it said charging rapidly and got very hot very quickly. It got binned after that. I don't use cheap chargers anymore.
Dont know if yours is a fake or not, but if you didn't get it with a new phone, I'd be suspect of it.

I prefer using the original one since boot loop issues
