Hi guys,
I have hard-reset my Moto G 2nd Gen after some confusion. I have taken the SD card out of the phone before resetting it. Now after hard-reset, when I insert my SD card into the phone, it says "Unsupported SanDisk SD card" and ask me to format it to use either as a portable storage or as internal storage.
This card has some important data of mine, e.g. Photos, whatsapp backup and few other backups. How can I solve this problem? I want to use this card as is in phone. Can I take backup of it's data if it's required to format this card?
I know I have asked too many questions, I hope you can understand my situation here. :crying:
If your SD card was formatted as internal storage it's almost impossible to get the information back since when you format an SD card as internal storage it gets encrypted and the key is stored in the device, so when you hard reseted your phone the key was lost, that's why it can't be identified.

as you said "almost impossible", is there any way to get the info back? Moreover, if I had left the card in the phone, would it have changed the encryption of sd card?
It most probably would've been the same if you had left the card in the phone. By the way you may want to take a look a this "Decrypting Android M adopted storage"

Thank you for sharing this page. This is a very good article, but it talks about having the key from device, which I certainly don't have. So, it seems I can't use this method to recover my data.
I, however, used some data recovery software on this card, which would show some data, but not all. Can you suggest me some good software to recover data from this card?

Hello. Did you ever figure out how to get the data off your SD card? I am in the same boat. I thought I was safe having everything backed up on there, but, nope...
Thank you

Does anyone know if you have to remove the SIM Card and SD Card before flashing? I just recently upgraded to the HD from the original Touch, and with the touch the RUU always told me to remove the SIM and SD Card before running the RUU. I would like to be able to flash without having to remove the SIM or SD card for fear of damaging both of them. Any and all accurate knowledge on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
i never do that and everything run's fine
No its not necessary dude
never
i've never taken either out of any of my phones and have yet to have an issue.
u need to remove SD only if u use Clear Storage or (Wipe Device in some ROMs). This action can do it instead of hard reset.

Theres a thread in this forum discussing the reason for vanishing sd-cards (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=506560&page=8).
Under some circumstances the sd-card isn´t readable after flahing newer roms. the advice is to REMOVE your sd-card while flashing newer roms.

I never remove the sd card when performing a hard reset, nor have i read anywhere that this is mandatory. So, no, i don't remove anything when flashing, soft resetting, hard resetting.

As Matthes42 said there is a few newer roms where it is advisabe to remove SD card before flashing. Some people have noticed there card is unreadable afterwards. However I have flashed to same roms with SD card still in phone and have had no problems reading it afterwards so I'm thinking it maybe down to type of SD card, though this is only a theory.
Still, if I was to offer advice I'd say don't take the chance if it states on rom page to remove SD card before flashing. Your risk!!
Yeah I'm one of the people that had my 16GB Sandisk card go corrupt after trying to upgrade to 1.56. It's completely toast. No software whether PPC or PC based can do anything to it. DOS commands can't even touch it.
So count me as someone that will suggest people to NOT keep their SD card in their phone when upgrading. Because before it happened to me I used to say, "Bah, I've upgraded my ROM countless times and never had a problem".
So if you haven't had a problem... well, you're potentially one upgrade away from having to throw away your SD card. Just because it hasn't happened to you YET doesn't mean it won't.
Not necessary...
You don't need to remove the card before any flashing operation, but it is very advisable to always backup your data stored on the card, under some very very very rare circumstances bad things can happen to the card but in 99% of the cases you only need to reformat the SD card (This is were the backup comes in handy..

You´re right. In most cases the lost data is the most expensive part, but some users would like to avoid the buy a new sd-card even when they know that their data are safe.
So the advice should be:
to avoid to lose data always backup your files.
to avoid to trash your sd-card (in rare cases) remove it while flashing.
if only risk is fun for you leave averything as it is
This is the situation:
I had a message on my phone (G1) stating the SD Card was damaged and I may need to format. Long story short, I formatted the card. Before formatting I moved everything from my card to my desktop.
After formatting, I moved everything back to my card. I then partitioned my card. I tried to partition first but got fed up when I ran into problems attempting to do so. Now after rebooting I was able to see about 1/3 of the apps I downloaded (I had almost a hundred and change- 16g card).
So, the question is: Do I have to reformat the card, partition, then put the files back on the card? Basically do everything all over again. Or is there a way to "restore" all my apps somehow?
Thanks in advance.

What exactly do you mean "transfer you ext partition"?
After messing around some more.......
I connected the usb to my computer, copied the "whole sd card" to my desktop, transferred everything back to my card after after wipe, format and everything.
Now when I go into a file manager, which I had to download again, I can see all the apps are on my card.
How do I get them in the "app tray or app launcher", I think it's called.
And when I go to settings, application whatchamacallit, I see my card is partitioned. I use Amon-Ra partitioning thing.

you mean that, your sd card has some data (images/music/etc) and you cant see them ON THE PHONE? Mounting the SD card should be a good idea but its just to simple to be an error. maybe giving more deatils could help...
As I said before, I can see no pictures on the SD card now.I tried several data recovery program, but did not succeed.
Mmm it seems like your sd card is broken, can you see any other files in it? Because it happened to me with a 2008 4GB SD card that had just a few months ago, it simply stopped working and that's it... But if in your case your sd card WORKS then ive got no idea how to restore data. Anyway I dont find it quite possible if it was erased, then for me its gone forever (except for the recycle bin maybe)
a PRO is needed.. lol
can see other files that I need some pictures, but I can not see in pictures.Do not have a way to it?
Not really idk ANYTHING in this matter, i'm sorry bcz I know why they break, but your case is different. So, you got some pics which were stored in you SD card and somehow got deleted and now you cannot see them in the phone nor the pc. I'm going to search for your problem from friday onwards, not so much time to help you now, sorry, I'll come back as soon as possible
Use SDCARD to USB Adapter then. You can backup all the SDCARD files to your computer
Then reboot to recovery mode, try to wipe all data
Sorry for my poor English.
Yesterday, i faced a problem of "SD card blank", I cannot access into the sd card no matter i tried in my phone or connect to my pc,

If you don't find other solution, put the card in an adaptor and just copy them to the PC.
Have you by chance deleted a folder called external SD from your memory card, coz it formats your sd card. Try recovering files from sd card through connecting it via some other usb card reader.
there are programs, that can save the photos even if you format a disk or in this case a sd card...
let me find one for you,,,, don't know if it works...read in here...
http://www.easeus.com/resource/sd-card-format-recovery.htm.
of course there must be other programs better and free, I really don't know if this easeus is of any good...
never tried...
you must have a sd card reader in your pc of course...
thx guys
i tried to use other adapter and i find no change as i still can not found the sd card via pc.
i sure that i have not delete the file of external SD, it keep showing Blank SD on my 4x.
i am really frustrated about that...:crying:
Maybe sdcard got corrupted. Try formating the card from your phone if it gives you the option. I dont think this will be repeated.
sad..
in fact i dun care about do the sd card can function after all.
i just wonder can i get back my file:crying::crying:

may be your sd card has corrupted or it is fake, how long are you using it?
once i bought a fake 16gb card it worked good for few days and then the same situation as you are in. and i found no solution to recovery my files as it becomes strange, files are there but you can't use them anymore, can't delete them or copy them.
try using some partition manager after inserting your card into your pc and check if your card is there, and it's status.
if your card is fake, i have no solution,
if it's corrupted, it can be brought back to life by formatting or using other partition recovery tools i think.
i dun know whether it is fake or not, but i have used it for around half a year already.
i dun care whether it can come alive i just want to get back my data.
today i have send the sd card to a engineer, he said he fix it but it cost a large amount of money and i am not able to afford it.
and then he recover the sd card to the original situation.
it means that there must be a solution for it.
can anyone help:crying:
i had the same problem too. my 32GB went on and off after i dropped it from 1 meter high.
i used these two recover as much as my files as possible.

but still be prepared to not be able to recover anything at all.
I'm using lenovo A7000 and recently updated marshmallow and chosen 32GB SD card as internal memory. It was worked as internal memory perfectly quite some time, all of sudden I got message that SD corrupted and doesn't show data stored in the card, it shows zero files, I lost all media files!! However USB storage option in settings SD card shows 6.5GB used out of 28GB. Since it's treated as internal memory I'm not able to read the card as drive in other devices/computer. I have important media files and documents in SD card and I didn't backup them. I'm bit worried!!! How to recover the data from SD card. I assume if SD card changed back to portable, it will format and lose data!!! Please support
Hey , are you using stock original rom of lenovo a7000?
