recently I flashed an incompatible kernel to my moto g 2014, it then messed up my phone badly, I was able to recover the phone to working state, only to find that the Wifi MAC address has been changed to 02:00:00 (something like that).
which I believe is is not right ,can anyone please suggest me some ideas to correct this issue and get wifi working up again? Thanks in advance.
I think i messed up mt EFS partition anyway of reverting that change

Hey there,
I am really courios why can't we root xt1096 while it is on stock 5.1
That sounds wierd to me because this is my 4th android phone already and I rooted all the priors without any problem.
I understood there was mofo and kingroot working on 5.0 , what happend with the 5.1 update?
Also, is there someone trying to make root possible for 5.1 stock?
I would like to get some answers if you guys don't mind
Thanks in advance.

The vulnerability that was used to root it in 5.0 and 4.4.4 was fixed by motorola.

If you were that concerned about root, there are options (ie: Pure Edition) that will ALWAYS have root.

Yea, but at first I didn't know that I can't root my phone. It seems to me really obvious that we can root any android phone because it is open source...
Moreover, the pure version has bigger screen than the normal xt1096 and that's the reason I didn't take pure edition.

He means the pure 2014 xt1095. The 2014 pure has the same screen size. The pure 2015 has a bigger screen.

Oh.. well, I didn't know that.
Looks like I'm screwed up because I bought the phone only 2 months ago because Motorola promises upgrades and now they just abandoned the xt1096..
Does anybody know if there is a progress trying to achieve root for 5.1 stock xt1096?
First, sorry for the double comment. Hope it's fine...
Kingroot has updated and they say they can root 5.1
I tried but with no success. Well, it failed at 23% which maybe brings hope to xt1096 users because this is the first time it lets you try to root with the app.
We currently have 832 people waiting for a root strategy but we need more people to ask them so we can be more noticable to them.
Please guys with xt1096, use kingroot and then it will fail to you. Then, choose the option that put us in the queue.
Thanks guys.
Hope soon we can get root to our abandoned phone..

What am i supposed to do now
b4 downgrading or taking any chances of brick let it get checked by some local repair shop for safety
Sent from my Moto G 2014 using Tapatalk
Seriously .. I you can safely downgrade back to Lollipop 5.0.1 using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/help/downgrading-6-0-to-5-02-using-easy-t3380082 but follow the instructions VERY CAREFULLY and EXACTLY or you run the risk of hard bricking your phone.. Good luck.
Hi,
As per title, what is the most up to date and easiest way to unroot and install a kitkat custom rom on a locked motoX 2nd gen (2014) with marshmallow 6.0?
My 2 years warranty is running out and am fedup with marshmallow. I'd like to go back to kitkat.
By the way what kitkat rom would you recommend?
Many thanks
Luca
done with issues
I did this from moto x 2014 xt1097 to xt1095 KitKat 4.4.4.
only issue is cellular stuck in radio mode so cant make calls or use data. hopefully can figure that out soon. I think I just need to find Canadian versions of modem files (for bell?).
only issue I cant remember how I did it!!!
83 hours on a next to bricked moto x 2014 and I was in "i don't care anymore mode" and was just downloading and flashing random stuff. give me a few days to figure out what I did so I know who to give thanks and credit to before I start linking other developers work.
Thanks, never mind I found what I want in a custom 6.0.1 ROM.
Best of luck with your smartphone
