Event for double tapping the recents button? - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Basically, i'd like to be able to double tap my recents button (while using the phone one-handed) as an alternative to stretching my thumb way over to the back button (i've almost dropped the phone several times doing this). I'm not new to tasker and realize i may have to find some other solution, just thought maybe someone here would have a trick up their sleeve?

I use the module Xposed Additions and link a Tasker task for the keyevent I want.

Awesome, thanks!

Or another Xposed module named Physical Button Music Control allows you to link a tasker action to ANY hardware/capacitive button.... Even combinations of buttons, double taps, triple taps, holds, etc.... It's very robust

[REQ] Trackball Home Button

I think having the trackball function as the home button would be a feature many would like to have. Any developer out there willing to take on this function?
What would be the point of the actual home button then? This seems pointless
what would be more useful is if the trackball can be programmed for stuff then we can use it to launch apps and do all sorts of things.

I have 3 things for my home button now, Quickdesk on dubbletap, recent apps on hold in, and singletap for launcher pro. for me it would be awesome to have quicker access to the recent apps, by putting the home to the trackball. and have recent apps on single click. wouldnt hurt to have the option. and it should also be available to bind the trackball click to anything u like.
I agree, or trackball to answer a call, I don't use the trackball that much.
Creating a service to run in the background wouldn't be too hard to do. The only problem is that you wouldn't be able to use your trackball to select links in the browser, for example. Good in theory, wouldn't work great in practise i don't think.
Here are the reasons why this would be a great function, and how it should go down:
The capacitive home button is not as responsive as it should be. I think we all use it A LOT, so making sure it worked perfectly everytime would be awesome. Especially when accessing "recent apps" and long pressing the home button, the capacitive button will occasionally take you home before you see your recent apps.
Double tapping can be incorporated into the home button. With the capacitive button, double tapping it has an almost 50% chance of failure. The trackball home button would fix this.
I don't know about you guys, but I usually dont use the trackball to select things on the screen. Touching it is so much easier. The trackball would be much more usefull for notifications, scrolling, and as a home button.
I agree with a previous poster, the trackball should be given to option to route to anywhere the user would like it to... Though I don't know what else there is to route to...
The ACTUAL home button can also be routed to anything the user would like. Maybe to recent apps, changing of brightness, a favorite app, an alternate launcher... ANYTHING.
This is all hypothetical of course, and as a non-dev, I actually have no clue how hard or easy this would be to create.
But what do you guys think? I know this a feature that would be really useful to me at least, and sound like some other people too.
sorry, there was a double post due to the server upgrades/issues on XDA.
Sorry to revive an ancient thread.
My N1 had a broken trackball, and in the process of replacing it i managed to kill both my home button and my seach button.
I can live without the seach, but not without the home.
Is there any progress on this topic ?

Never mind, it was a software problem caused by an incomplete flash. (wiped everything separately, but that wasn't sufficient. Returning to factory settings did the trick)
All I want is trackball to blink beautifully for me!
That's all, baby.
+1
I would also like trackball mods such as
double tap to go to an app and other tap patterns for the trackball

Launch Now On Tap From Hardware Button

I recently got hold of an Elephone P9000 which has a Shortcut button that can be used to launch an app, but not a function within an app. I've been playing around with app factory to allow it to do different functions & so far I've been able to set it up as a camera shutter button which is a glaring omission by Elephone as a selectable option.
I'm now looking to try to get it to work for Now On Tap but having issues.
The phone has the option between having the standard navigation bar or using a single multi use capacitive button which I find a great feature but it causes issues if you want to launch now on tap as you can't press & hold the home key.
I've got a task that does keypress 219 & this works on its own to launch now on tap & when I export it as an app it works if you open the app. It does not however work if you assign it to the shortcut key as my camera shutter app did.
I'm still on a steep learning curve with tasker so I thought I'd throw it out to you guys in case I might be missing something obvious.

Try using xposed additions module
and linking a Tasker task.

I did wonder if xposed might be the only way. As far has I've seen so far no one has a working solution for xposed on this phone. Time for me to start playing.
As far as apps created in Tasker do they still need the project to exist within Tasker to function correctly or is the intention that they should work as stand alone apps? I wanted to try to make the button multi use depending on certain conditions, so bringing profiles into it. Just don't want to waste a lot of time trying it if it's not going to work.

Back, Home and Recents buttons?

Hello,
after the sources for the Z2 Pro have been released and good Custom ROMs are possible, I would love to buy this beautiful device. I've read alot about this U-Touch thing, where you navigate only by using the Home Button... and I don't like it. So my question is: Does this phone also have the normal Back, Home and Recents hardware buttons?
Thanks!
Hi,
Yes, you can add on screen buttons in "Developer Options" menu. At least you can do it with z2 (non pro). I guess you will have this option too.
So there are no "real" hardware buttons to the left and the right of the home button?
On screen buttons are in developer options in both models, make sure you reboot to effect the changes.
Thanks for your answers. I know about the possiblity to show the On Screen Buttons, but that's not what I wanted to know.
I'm curious if the device also has dedicated hardware buttons (not on screen) for Back and Recents, or just the U-Touch button?
It only has 1 physical button on the front..
I'd love to see an app or even integration in a custom rom to be able to configure the behaviour of the front button. What are the chances this will become reality?
It already lets you configure what the button does. You can also preset actions to open specific apps.

But that is in the ZUI ROM right? I'd like to see this in a separate app or built into custom ROM so it can also be used outside ZUI.
Now that the sources are available someone who knows what he is doing should be able to pull this off.
Is there a way to make swipe left on the u-touch button act like a back button? Maybe there would be a way to have it open an scripted action that acts as back button?
Edit: Just figured out that short tap is back, so my problem is solved!
Thanks, this helped me out!
I'm looking for a phone with this same exact button. I'm always super stunned how retarded iphones are compared to my $200 phone.

double tap

I miss this from my oneplus one. Is it possible to get that function on note8?

Double tap to wake screen? Think LG were first to introduce this.i rembere there were some apps on play store just to do that. Some gesture apps might have that feature.
But Note 8 has alternatives. You can wake up with on screen vibrating button and you can change sensitivity. Also using AOD it has sift button to double tap.

One less tap
I hard press the home button and boom it gets me direct to the home screen.

Yes
Hard press home is a much better alternative, at least in my opinion to double tap anyway.
Just press where the home button should be (even if you can't see it) as if it was a physical button, the phone will vibrate as if you have pressed a proper button and it will turn on, or go home.

out of curiosity, why would a hard press be better than double tap?

I also use long press home on s8+
The big advantage is the prevention of accidental taps since the area to tap is much smaller than the whole or half the screen area

I miss it too.... And ambient display.... It saves more juice for the battery

These are from the S8+ forum. Haven't tried the double tap. Remove battery icon, carrier hider, and remove unlock text works.
Ok, so I guess they work except for the nav bar stuff. And reboot after installation of mod
The only thing with double tap to wake or hard press the home button is you still have your security feature after that. I find it easier just to hit my fingerprint. But I use Nova for double tap to sleep.

Hmm. Yes. Sometimes just to see the notifications I do not want to hit the power button.
You can double tap the Active Display home button. It will take a HARD press or a double tap. It doesn't use the whole screen, but I like the double tap better.
Anyone know how to combine the "lockscreen" with the "pattern"... basically have the pattern always display (and hidden)? It seemed to be an option on previous devices.
I just want to turn on my screen and swipe in my pattern. Right now, the minimalist lockscreen (while pretty), requires an EXTRA unneeded swipe before pulling up the pattern view.
There are too many taps/swipes going on just to get to the desktop. May seem trivial but I'm on my phone a lot for work so I am trying to save as much time as possible.

I use the "press screen" option with the Iris recognition and works flawless. Is fast and secure. Should give a try
Yea I've experimented with that. The picture it took of my eyes was blurry af, so I don't even know how it would work. It is pretty fast though, but the point is I don't want to really pick up my phone every second. Again, I work from home and in remote Support. I typically am remoted into a couple sites and use my phone for my dedicated email screen. So every few seconds I have to unlock.
I just feel like the Active Display is a good lockscreen already. Maybe I'll just remove the "lockscreen" altogether since it just adds a bunch of extra unneeded steps. What I want is just an Active Display > Hard Press or Double Tap > Pin or Pattern. The extra lockscreen is useless.

What is active display? You mean the always on display (aod)?
Anyways I think the phone does what you are asking.. with my phone on the desk I push down on the home button and it goes from the aod to the pattern in one press of the virtual home button. Then I swipe in my pattern.
You can also lower the pressure needed for the home button

In Display > Navigation bar options, there is an option for Hard press bypass the lockscreen. It was turned off in my phone. Someone in another thread clued me in.
That works as requested. It was just in a weird place. That option should be in lockscreen, since it directly references actions with the lockscreen.

I mean it affects every aspect of the UI, so I could also see the location of it argued the other way. Guess that's why we have a search bar in settings.

Is it possible to customize fingerprint scanner gestures?

Hi,
I have a short question - is it possible to customize fingerprint scanner gestures in the P10? Is there a mod or something to do that? I can't stand current selection, single tap should always be 'home'. My perfect set of gestures would look like this:
single tap - 'home'
swipe left - 'back'
swipe right (or up) - 'multitasking/recent apps'
swipe down - pull down the shortcut panel
tap and hold for 0,5 sec - screen off
double tap - toggle between recently used apps (P8 had this! Even bare bones Android has such function)
Give Tasker a try. I don't know, if it's working and if it won't make problems with the EMUI settings, but you can give it a try.
I have to say, that a swipe for everytime I want to go back would be very annoying. I was 9 years on iPhone before I got my P10 and had to get use to it, but know it's like an automatism.
Not going 'home' after tapping the "home" button is much more annoying. Besides the 'back' button is usually on the left side so swiping left is the closest thing.
I asked on the Tasker forums and one of the users said that it requires TouchTask plugin (for Tasker). We'll see.
Were you able to customize the gestures? Did tasker work? I don't use Google app (disabled it) and think there should be a remap feature... Should not be that hard to do...
